  • Clubroot disease caused by Plasmodiophora brassicae is one of the most serious diseases in Brassica crops worldwide. In this study, the pathotypes of 12 Korean P. brassicae field isolates were determined using various Chinese cabbage including 22 commercial cultivars from Korea, China, and Japan, and 15 inbred lines. All P. brassicae isolates exhibited the typical clubroot disease on non-clubroot resistant cultivar, indicating that the isolates were highly pathogenic. According to the reactions on the Williams' hosts, the 12 field isolates were initially classified into five races. However, when these isolates were inoculated onto clubroot-resistant (CR) cultivars of Chinese cabbage, several isolates led to different disease responses even though the isolates have been assigned to the same race by the Williams' host responses. Based on the pathogenicity results, the 12 field isolates were reclassified into four different groups: pathotype 1 (GN1, GN2, GS, JS, and HS), 2 (DJ and KS), 3 (HN1, PC, and YC), and 4 (HN2 and SS). In addition, the CR cultivars from Korea, China, and Japan exhibited distinguishable disease responses to the P. brassicae isolates, suggesting that the 22 cultivars used in this study, including the non-CR cultivars, are classified into four different host groups based on their disease resistance. Combining these findings, the four differential hosts of Chinese cabbage and four pathotype groups of P. brassicae might provide an efficient screening system for resistant cultivars and a new foundation of breeding strategies for CR Chinese cabbage.

  • The blue emitting OLEDs using GDI host-dopant phosphors have been fabricated and characterized. In the device fabrication, 2-TNATA [4,4',4'-tris(2-naphthylphenyl-phenylamino)- triphenylamine] as a hole injection material and NPB [N,N'-bis(1-naphthyl)-N,N'-diphenyl-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine] as a hole transport material were deposited on the ITO(indium thin oxide)/glass substrate by vacuum evaporation. And then, blue color emission layer was deposited using GDI602 as a host material and GDI691 as a dopant. Finally, small molecule OLEDs with structure of ITO/2-TNATA/NPB/GDI602:GDI691/Alq3/LiF/Al were obtained by in-situ deposition of Alq3, LiF and Al as the electron transport material, electron injection material and cathode, respectively. Blue OLEDs fabricated in our experiments showed the color coordinate of CIE(0.14, 0.16) and the maximum power efficiency of 1.1 lm/W at 11 V with the peak emission wavelength of 464 nm.

  • Simple and high efficiency green phosphorescent devices using an intermixed double host of 4, 4', 4"-tris(N-carbazolyl) triphenylamine [TCTA], 1, 3, 5-tris (N-phenylbenzimiazole-2-yl) benzene [TPBI], phosphorescent dye of tris(2-phenylpyridine)iridium(III) [$Ir(ppy)_3$], and selective doping in the TPBI region were fabricated, and their electro luminescent characteristics were evaluated. In the device fabrication, layers of $70{\AA}$-TCTA/$90{\AA}$-$TCTA_[0.5}TPBI_{0.5}$/$90{\AA}$-TPBI doped with $Ir(ppy)_3$ of 8% and an undoped layer of $50{\AA}$-TPBI were successively deposited to form an emission region, and SFC137 [proprietary electron transporting material] with three different thicknesses of $300{\AA}$, $500{\AA}$, and $700{\AA}$ were used as an electron transport layer. The device with $500{\AA}$-SFC137 showed the luminance of $48,300\;cd/m^2$ at an applied voltage of 10 V, and a maximum current efficiency of 57 cd/A under a luminance of $230\;cd/m^2$. The peak wavelength in the electroluminescent spectral and color coordinates on the Commission Internationale de I'Eclairage [CIE] chart were 512 nm and (0.31, 0.62), respectively.

  • High-efficiency phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes using TCTA-TAZ as a double host and $Ir(ppy)_3$ as a dopant were fabricated and their electro-luminescence properties were evaluated. The fabricated devices have the multi-layered organic structure of 2-TNATA/NPB/(TCTA-TAZ) : $Ir(ppy)_3$/BCP/SFC137 between an anode of ITO and a cathode of LiF/AL. In the device structure, 2-TNATA[4,4',4"-tris(2-naphthylphenyl-phenylamino)-triphenylamine] and NPB[N,N'-bis(1-naphthyl)-N,N'-diphenyl-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine] were used as a hole injection layer and a hole transport layer, respectively. BCP [2,9-dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline] was introduced as a hole blocking layer and an electron transport layer, respectively. TCTA [4,4',4"-tris(N-carbazolyl)-triphenylamine] and TAZ [3-phenyl-4-(1-naphthyl)-5-phenyl-1,2,4-triazole] were sequentially deposited, forming a double host doped with $Ir(ppy)_3$ in the [TCTA-TAZ] : $Ir(ppy)_3$ region. Among devices with different thickness combinations of TCTA ($50\;{\AA}-200\;{\AA}$) and TAZ ($100\;{\AA}-250\;{\AA}$) within the confines of the total host thickness of $300\;{\AA}$ and an $Ir(ppy)_3$-doping concentration of 7%, the best electroluminescence characteristics were obtained in a device with $100\;{\AA}$-think TCTA and $200\;{\AA}$-thick TAZ. The $Ir(ppy)_3$ concentration in the doping range of 4%-10% in devices with an emissive layer of [TCTA ($100\;{\AA}$)-TAZ ($200\;{\AA}$)] : $Ir(ppy)_3$ gave rise to little difference in the luminance and current efficiency.

  • In this paper, white polymer light emitting diodes(WPLEDs) were fabricated and investigated the electrical and optical properties for the prepared devices. ITO(indium tin oxide) and PEDOT:PSS [poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfolnate)] as anode and hole injection materials, PFO [poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene)] and MEH-PPV [poly(2-methoxy-5(2-ethylhe xoxy)-1,4-phenylenevinyle)] were used as the light emitting host and guest materials, respectively. The LiF(lithium flouride) and Al(aluminum) were used electron injection materials and cathode materials. Finally, the WPLED with structure of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/PFO:MEH-PPV/LiF/Al was fabricated. The prepared WPLED showed white emission with CIE coordinates of (x=0.36, y=0.35) at the applied voltage of 9V. The maximum current density and luminance were about $740mA/cm^2\;and\;900cd/m^2$ at 13V, respectively. And the maximum current efficiency was 0.37 cd/A at $200cd/m^2$ in luminance.

  • In this paper, the light emitting efficiency, spectrum, and the lifetime of the phosphorescent devices, whose emission characteristics are strongly dominated not only by the energy transfer but also by the charge carrier trapping induced by the emissive dopant, are explained by differences in the energy levels of the host, dopant, and nearby transport layers. On the basis of our finding on device performance and photocurrent measurement data by time-of-flight (TOF), we investigated the effect of the difference of carrier trapping dopant and properties of the host materials on the efficiency roll-off of phosphorescent organic light emitting diode (OLED), along with a physical interpretation and practical design scheme, such as a multiple host system, for improving the efficiency and lifetime of devices.

  • We report on white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) based on single white dopants, $Ir(pq)_2$($F_2$-ppy) and $Ir(F_2-ppy)_2$(pq), where $F_2$-ppy and pq are 2-(2,4-difluorophenyl) pyridine and 2-phenylquinoline, respectively. The similar phosphorescent lifetime of two ligands lead to luminescence emission in two ligands simultaneously. However, the emission color of the devices was reddish, because the energy was not transferred efficiently from the 4,4,N,N'-dicarbazolebiphenyl (CBP) to the $F_2$-ppy ligand, due to the small band gap of the CBP. Accordingly, we used 1,4-phenylenesis(triphenylsilane) (UGH2) with a large band gap, instead of CBP as the host material. As a result, it was possible to adjust the emission color by the host material. The luminous efficiency of the device with $Ir(F_2-ppy)_2$(pq) doped in UGH2 was about 11 cd/A at 0.06 cd/$m^2$.

  • Fluorescent white organic light-emitting diodes showing high color-rendering indices (CRIs) of up to 81 was demonstrated, with a silicon-cored anthracene derivative (PATSPA) doped with DPAVBi utilized as the deep-blue host and dye materials, and the commercial dyes rubrene and DCM2 utilized as the orange- and red-light-emitting dyes. The devices, consisting of three emissive layers, showed bright-white-light emission, but the ratio of the blue peak to the orange and red peaks changed with the current density and the thickness of the blue emissive layer. A high CRI was achieved with the use of a deep-blue emitter doped in a novel host and by optimizing the blue-layer thickness. The device with a blue-layer thickness of 10 nm showed the Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) color coordinate of (0.33, 0.35), a high CRI of 81, and a moderate external quantum efficiency of 2% at a current density of $2.5\;mA/cm^2$.
