  • Radiation characteristics of inductive loaded patch antennas (ILPAs) and conventional patch antennas using a half wavelength resonance mode for substrates with various dielectric constants are investigated. ILPAs have the good radiation characteristics such as high broadside gain and suppressed radiation along the horizontal plane compared to those of conventional patch antennas. We show that ILPAs with the appropriate patch length and via radius have the optimum radiation characteristics such as the highest broadside gain and the most suppressed horizontal radiation.

  • Rocking response of rigid bodies with rectangular footprint, freely standing on horizontal rigid plane is studied analytically. Bodies are subjected to simulated single component of horizontal earthquakes. The effect of baseline correction, applied to simulated excitations, on the rocking response is first examined. The sensitiveness of rocking motion to the details of earthquakes and geometric properties of rigid bodies is investigated. Due to the demonstrated sensitivity of rocking response to these factors, prediction of rocking stability must be made in the framework of probability theory. Therefore, using a large number of simulated earthquakes, the effects of duration and shape of intensity function of simulated earthquakes on overturning probability of rigid bodies are studied. In the case when a rigid body is placed on any floor of a building, the corresponding probability is compared to that of a body placed on the ground. For this purpose, several shear frames are employed. Finally, the viability of the energy balance equation, which was introduced by Housner in 1963 and widely used by nuclear power industry to estimate the rocking stability of bodies, is evaluated. It is found that the equation is robust. Examples are also given to show how this equation can be used.

  • The author examined the patterns and various ranges of mandibular movements in TMJ lock closed patients in the frontal, sagittal and horizontal plane and obtained the following results. 1. In the frontal trajectory, the mean amount of maximum mouth opening was 24.4mm and the opening paths were deviated to the affected side in 87.1% of the patients. The mean amount of maximum laterotrusion to the affected side was 10.4mm and that of non-affected side was 7.5mm. There was a significant difference between them(p<0.001). 2. In the sagittal trajectory, the mean amount of the maximum protrusion was 7.0mm, the mean amount of the maximal retrusion was 1.0mm 3. In the horizontal trajectory, the pattern of laterotrusion showed asymmetry: the mean length of non-affected side was smaller than that of the affected side. Protrusive path were deviated to the affected side in 64.5% of the patients, the mean degree of deviation was 16.4$^{\circ}$. The mandibular movements of TMJ lock-closed patients can be characterized by decreased range of mouth opening, protrusive movement, and laterotrusive movement to the non-affected side and also characterized by deviated opening and protrusive path to the affected side.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the initial skeletal pattern and growth change of whom had responsed well to chincap therapy. 93 patients seleted for this study were in mixed dentition and treated with chincap for more than 2 years. And 54 subjects were selected from these total samples and classified into two groups by the improvement of four measurements : ANB difference, APDI, Wits appraisal, and AF-BF. One was good response group which consisted of 26 children and the other was poor response group with 19 patients. Various measures of the craniofacial structure in the initial lateral cephalograms and the annual increments were calculated and analyzed by comparing two groups with t-test. The results were as follows : 1. Good response group had more horizontal growth pattern in initial stage of treatment than poor response group, and the contributing factors of this result were anterior posterior facial height ratio, gonial angle, lower genial angle and SN-mandibular plane angle. 2. The maxilla was positioned more anteriorly in good response group. 3. The amounts of vertical growth of maxilla was smaller but the horizontal growth of maxilla was larger in good response group. 4. The mandible rotated more infero-posteriorly in good response group. 5. The good response group had more vertical growth pattern of mandibular condyle.

  • In the welding for the steel structure of H-beam with mild steel and 490N/$\textrm{mm}^2$ high tensile steel, we applied the fillet weld mostly and 6-8mm weld length(AISC-spec.). And a new developed metal-cored-wire is used in automatic welding as well as semi-automatic welding. In this study we have attempted to raise the welding productivity and to stabilize the quality on horizontal positions of fillet welding with the following items: - We improved the weld productivity using metal based cored wire with a high deposition rate in the steel structure of H-beam. - We tested the weldability and evaluated the quality of the weldmetal by horizontal fillet $CO_2$ welding. The process is carried out in combination with a special purpose metal-based FCW with excellent resistance to porosity and high welding speed. - We studied the micro structure of the weldmetal by the various welding conditions. - We studied the effect of welding residual stress by the welding conditions in T-joint. Therefore, it can be assured that more productive and superior quality of the weldmetal can be taken from this study results.

  • A 1kW-class horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) rotor blade is taken into account to investigate elastic characteristics in 2-D. The elastic blade field is composed of symmetric cross-ply laminated composite material. Blade element momentum theory is applied to obtain the boundary conditions pressuring the blade, and the plane stress elasticity problem is formulated in terms of two displacement parameters with mixed boundary conditions. For the elastic characteristics a fair of differential equations are derived based on the elastic theory. The domain is divided by triangular and rectangular elements due to the complexity of the blade configuration, and a finite element method is developed for the governing equations to search approximate solutions. The results describe that the elastic behavior is deeply influenced by the layered angle of the middle laminate and the stability of the blade can be improved by controlling the layered angle of laminates, which can be evaluated by the mathematical approach.

  • Error analysis is important in horizontal positioning. In case of error analysis, standard error ellipse is generally used to establish the precision regions, but it will be replaced by 95% confidence ellipse. It is more effective than standard error ellipse in resection for measured procedures and establishment for criterias of relative error. Therefore, In this paper deals with analysis of application to 95% confidence ellipse in horizontal positioning. This study deals with error analysis of plane trilateration network which are various types of control point. also, this paper have studied for theory of error analysis in order to using least square adjustment. Thus, This paper's conclusion are as follows; 95% confidence ellipse could be used to establish of specification in korea, also, it is possible for us to predesign for optimum surveying network by 95% confidence ellipse.

  • Previous studies of kinematic analysis of golf swing usually dealt with variations vertically. The purpose of the study was to examine the horizontal hip joints motion of the fifteen male professional golfers during driver swinging. Kinematic variables were calculated by the Kwon3D motion analysis program. Paired t-tests and one-way ANOVA were used to compare the hip height, distance, displacement, and position differences. Results showed that there were no hip height changes and no hip height differences between left and right hip from address to impact. The axis of the backswing was braced right hip, the axis of the downswing was moving left hip. Hips position at the top of the backswing showed that hips move to target prior to hands, which means the sequential motion of the chain linked body segments. From address to impact, left hip moving distance was longer than right hip(p<.001), but during the whole swing, right hip moving distance was longer than left hip(p<.001). Hip rotation angle to target line was $-48.14{\pm}9.32^{\circ}$ at top of the backswing, $40.88{\pm}8.44^{\circ}$ at impact, and $104.70{\pm}8.14^{\circ}$ at finish.

  • The quality of high performance concrete largely depends on water cement ratio, porosity, material composition and mix methods. The uniformity of color, texture and compressive strengths are quality indicators commonly used to assess the overall characteristics of concrete mixes. The homogeneity and share of coarse aggregates play a key role in concrete quality and must be analyzed in a microscopic point of view. This research studies the quality of high performance concrete by taking drilled cores in both horizontal and vertical directions from a 1.0 $m^3$ specimen. The coarse aggregate, expressed in digitized $100{\times}116$ dpi resolution images are processed based on brightness in colors through commercial software converted into text files. With the image converting to text format, the share of coarse aggregate is quantified leading to a satisfactory assessment of homogeneity - a quality index of high performance concrete. The compressive strengths of concrete and the shares of coarse aggregate of the samples are also compared in this research study to illustrate its correlation in concrete quality. It is concluded that a higher homogeneity of aggregate exists in the vertical plane than that of the horizontal planes of the high performance concrete. In addition, the concrete specimen showing denser particle packing has relatively higher compressive strengths. The research methodology provides an easy-to-use, direct measurement of high performance concrete when conducting quality assessment in the construction site.
