The purpose of this study was to develop and examine the effects of flipped learning in ancient Mesopotamian costume history. The flipped learning class was designed to three steps(pre-class, in-class, after-class). Pre-class: Students learned the socio-cultural background of Mesopotamia by watching videos online and Mesopotamian costume with PPT. In-class: Students were evaluated for their prior learning through the quiz. After the quiz, the instructor had a supplementary mini-lecture. Then the advanced learning was progressed with the team project(Mesopotamian costume analysis) by online Louvre Museum. Students made a team presentation and the instructor provided feedback. After-class: The effectiveness of flipped learning was measured based on the students' self-reflective journals and class awareness surveys. As the results, students actively participated in flipped learning and the class was rated appropriate. Students were satisfied with the overall quality of the flipped learning class. The Effect of Flip Learning Classes in reflective journals were shown as 'related flipped learning style,' 'related online Louvre museum project,' 'understanding of cooperative learning,' and 'contents of the class'. The purpose of this study was to contribute to Home Economics(HE) teachers' culture by figuring out acknowledging characteristics of cultures of HE teachers and impeding factors on development of HE education. For this intensive interview were used. Intensive interviews were made with 14 HE teachers who completed coursework for master's or doctor's program of graduate school and belong to HE Teachers' Study Associations of each region or Korean Home Economics Education Association and analyzed by subject analysis method. The results of the study are as follows. First, HE teachers establish the philosophy of HE education, and practice education to provide profit to adolescents, their families, as well as society through HE class with their belief that HE is a practical and critical subject to benefit individual adolescents, families, and society. Second, HE teachers form culture to make an effort to continue to improve their expertises by attending graduate school, joining HE teachers' associations to enhance teaching methods, evaluation methods, and work ability or disclosing their own class. Third, HE teachers settle culture to conduct classes focusing on practical issues by converting the paradigm of HE education to that of practical critique. They also see that the system of three actions(technical action, communicative action, and emancipative action) should be applied in circulating ways to improve quality and value of life. Forth, for impeding factors of development of HE education, there are educational system and social recognition. However, with HE teachers' efforts, HE education settles well, as it reflects demands from students and society, finds students' talents, and actualizes its own goals. HE teachers believe that student will recognize that HE education is necessary for happiness of individuals and families. As a way to develop Home Economics teacher culture, Home Economics teachers should have the opportunity to develop more Home Economics teachers by participating in and working in research sessions in each area. It also called for a control tower to enable and lead collaborative networks between local Home Economics curriculum research committees. The Korean Home Economics Education Association should play a central role in the academic research community of each region and be able to help Home Economics teachers by moving more quickly and systematically to cope with the upcoming changes in education. Finally, participants said that in order to prepare a basic framework for the change in Home Economics education, practical critical Home Economics teacher training are needed. To this end, students can understand the essence of Home Economics education and establish their identity by taking a deeper Home Economics education curriculum philosophy for Home Economics teacher training.
This study aimed to identify parents' experiences of child-rearing on Saturday with no class as well as their perceptions and demands on the Five-day School Week system. The study participants were 640 parents with first to second grade children. The major results were as follows: First, parents were generally satisfied with the Five-day School Week System. Second, the Five-day School Week System increased fathers' role-sharing on the Saturday with no class. It was also related with some of the demographic variables and the Five-Week Workweek System of the father and the mother. Third, both the fathers and mothers had more parenting stress on Saturdays with no class than on Saturdays with classes. Their parenting stress on Saturdays with no class was related with some demographic variables and work flexibility.
Despite the rapid economic growth since the 1960s the economic inequality has been exacerbated in Korea. This study analyzed the variables influencing the level of objective deprivation. For empirical analysis this study used the data on 602 households in the city of Inchon collected by the researcher through interviews. The major method used in this study was the four stepwise multiple regression. The findings were as follows : the residential class was the most critical variable in determining the level of deprivation. For the entire sample assets had stronger effect on the deprivation than nonasset income but two variables had different effects depending on residential class. For the poor residential class two variables had the effect These results imply that the household consumption in Korea shows remarkable difference according to residential class and that the inequality of wealth compared to that of nonasset income had much more serious effects.
The purpose of this study is to present a practical class design model that applies the problem-based learning (PBL) method to the subject of home economics. To begin with, a specific class model example was developed by conducting thorough document research and expert consulting. Two modules, named "Click! Global Leisure Environment" and "Happy Leisure Product Launching" were presented as the PBL questions. The case study focused upon in this research is an elective course called "Leisure Culture and Life Management". The 21 students enrolled in this course were considered in this study. Two teaching methods, namely a face-to-face teaching method and a web-based system "Snowboard" teaching method, were used to run the class. The research results are as follows: first, theoretical research and program development and demonstration were practiced with five different age groups: childhood, adolescence, university student, middle age, and senescence. Then, selfevaluation, peer evaluation, and group evaluation were conducted to motivate the students. Finally, a class evaluation was conducted by questioning the lecturer, who ranked well, scoring higher than or equal to 4.0 points out of 5.0 on all the questions. Through the PBL method, students showed an improved study attitude with more proactive participation in the class, they strengthened their communication skills and created a synergy with their team members. This study has significant meaning because it is the first research to apply the PBL method to home economics. Therefore, we expect other curricula to apply PBL and fully utilize this teaching method as well in the future.

The purpose of this study was to determine the possibility of character education in the middle school home economics program: by extracting learning factors that can cultivate gratitude disposition from the eighth grade in the unit of 'clothing life' of middle school HE text, developing five teaching-learning lesson plans and learning materials, and applying them in classrooms to see any changes in gratitude disposition standards before and after its application. Five teaching-learning lesson plans for the cultivation of gratitude disposition were developed, and completed after three experts in home economics verified their validity and revised them. From June 1, 2010 to June 30, 2010, five classes were to 210 grade students at a Gyeongbuk Junior School, and dispositions were investigated before and after the classes. Gratitude disposition standards used GQ-6, like McCullough, and for before-and-after-inspection comparison, t-test and analysis of open-ended questionnaires were carried out. The results proved the instruction effective. Before the class for the cultivation of gratitude disposition, students had a gratitude disposition average of 2.87(out of 5). After the class, the average was 3.35, which shows that students had improved considerably. Also, in analysis of a open-ended questionnaire, it was said that the class had been provided the opportunity to think about the value of nature and neighbors and that the class content reminded them about appreciation. In conclusion, for the character education in other areas of middle school home economics, teaching-learning lesson plans development must be attained to further this character education program.
