Purpose: To investigate the abilities to act and fear of falling in home-dwelling elderly. Methods: This study interviewed 351 home-dwelling elders residing in Seoul and Gyonggi-do using a Survey of Activities and Fear of Falling in the Elderly. Results: Of the 351 subjects, 203(57.8%) had activity restrictions. The main three activities that the subjects could not perform were going out when it is slippy, reaching something overhead and walking crowded places outside. According to general characteristics, performable activities were significantly fewer in subjects perceiving that their health status was low that those perceiving that their health status was high. On a scale of 3 points for fear of falling, the average score of the subjects was 1.46. The highest score of fear of falling was 2.62 for the activity of going out when it is slippery, next 1.87 for the activity of reaching something overhead. There was a significant inverse relationship between subjects' abilities to act and fear of falling. Conclusions: The significant variables associated with fear of falling were gender(female), educational background, economic status (low-income), and experience of falls during the last one year. Thus further study is necessary, focused on the vulnerable population in order to prevent falls and to reduce fear of falling.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between color preference and personality traits & personal factor among secondary school girls. Personality traits were measured. with Lee et al's Personality Scale. The questioniare measuring color preference consists of items designed to assess color and clothing color(T-shirt and slacks) preference and color repugnance. These questionaire were administerd to 576 middle and high school girls in Chungbuk Province. As statistical analysis, chi-square, F-test and correlation were used. The result were; 1. The order of prefered colors were white, yellow and green, and the order of repugnated colors were gray, red and red purple. 2. Personality traits was no signifcant related to color perference and repugnance. 3. Color perference was positively related to age, residential area and type of school. Color repugnance was positively related to age, residential area, type of school and educational background of mother. 4. Yellow red, yellow and white T-shirt were prefered in spring and autumn, white and blue T-shirt were prefered in summer, and black, gray and red T-shirt were prefered in winter. White and blue slacks were prefered in spring, summer and autumn seasons, and black, gray and blue slacks were prefered in winter. 5. There was a positive relationship between color perference and T-shirt color, but was no positive relationship between color perference and slacks color.
The purpose of the present study was to set up the basic outline to define and to develop "housing education" in the field of home economics education. The main focus included in the present study was to suggest the basic data on the current status of housing education in Korea by examining the content of the textbooks and the secondary data o teacher's educational background. The methods used in the study were the contentanalysis of the elementary school curriculum and the secondary data analysis of the data on teachers and their education. The results of this study ere on follows, 1. The elementary school curriculum defined as the related fields of housing education were classified into 4 domains: housing planning, housing maintenance, housing environment, housing decoration. 2. The subject areas related to housing education was found to be moral education, social education, physical education, art, practical education. The total hours studying on housing education were the average of 1.1 hours per week. 3. Among the above 4 domains, the total hours used for housing decoration amounted to the highest rate through all the subject areas. 4. According to the secondary dta analysis, 49.5% of the teacher were the national teacher's college graduates, but there are no courses on housing education as such in the curriculum of the national teacher's college. it was concluded that more consideration should be given to the teacher training courses.
This study is to describl the child care system in Sweden and to understand how the progressive child care system has been developed. The sex categories of the child care issues were studied based on a review of the literature related to the Swedish child care, family welfare system and the socio-economic information on Sweden. Six categories were : (1) historical and socio-economic background of child care system, (2) supply of and demand for the child care service and the types of public and private child care, (3) child care program activities, (4) child care staff training system, (5) administration and financial support system for the child care, and (6) the family policy and the family support programs in Sweden. For the Korean child care system, this study on the Swedish child care implied that : (1) To provide a progressive system of the child care system in Korea will require serious discussion about concentration of the child care administration system which is currently distributed to Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health and Welfare. (2) The extensive family support programs such as the parental leave and flexible work conditions for women are needed for the infant care by parents at home. (3) to expand the child care services in Korea, public support should be primarily focused on the supply of the public day care centers even though the demands for the various child care services are to be met by public financial support. (4) Most of all, societal recognition that all children are the resposiblity of our society is needed to develop a progressive child care system in Korea.

Background: The effects of home nursing intervention on the quality of life in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) after radiotherapy and chemotherapy are unclear. According to the characteristics of nursing home patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, we should continuously improve the nursing plan and improve the quality of life of patients at home. Materials and Methods: We selected 180 patients at home with NPC after radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The patients were randomly divided into experimental and control groups (90 patients each). The experimental group featured intervention with an NPC home nursing plan, while the control group was given routine discharge and outpatient review. Nursing intervention for patients was mainly achieved by regular telephone follow-up and home visits. We use the quality of life scale (QOL-C30), anxiety scale (SAS) and depression scale (SDS) to evaluate these patients before intervention, and during follow-up at 1 month and 3 months after the intervention. Results: Overall health and quality of life were significantly different between the groups (p<0.05), Emotional function score was significantly higher after intervention (p<0.05), as were cognitive function and social function scores after 3 months of intervention (p<0.05). Scores of fatigue, nausea and vomiting, pain, appetite and constipation were also significantly different between the two groups (p<0.05). Rates of anxiety and depression after 3 months of intervention were 11.1%, 22.2% and 34.4%, 53.3%, the differences being significant (p<0.05). Conclusions: NPC home nursing plan could effectively improve overall quality of life, cognitive function, social function (after 3 months) of patients, but improvement regarding body function is not suggested. Fatigue, nausea and vomiting, pain, appetite, constipation were clearly improved. We should further pursue a personalized, comprehensive measurements for nursing interventions and try to improve the quality of life of NPC patients at home.

The purpose of this study was to identify home economics (HE) teachers' concerns about and perceptions of HE education using the latest technologies in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution and to reveal whether they differ according to teachers' general background variables. The questionnaire survey method to measure HE teachers' concerns and perceptions of HE education using the latest technologies in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution was conducted online using the Google Questionnaire from which 150 responses were received. The main results were as follows. Firstly, HE teachers scored an average of 3.46 out of 5 for the latest technology. Among these interests in the latest technology, interest in "augmented reality and virtual reality technologies" scored the highest at an average of 3.80, while interest in "neural network machine learning" (2.78) was low. HE teacher's concerns about HE education using the latest technologies in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution were high, with an average score of 4.40. Among these concerns for the latest technology, "concern about the results of HE education using the latest technology" scored the highest at 4.53. HE teachers' anxiety about the latest teaching technology in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution was moderate, averaging 3.05. The highest form of anxiety was "anxiety about the impact on the job" (4.03) and the lowest was fear of "the disappearance of the teacher's job" (2.50). HE teachers' innovation resistance to the latest teaching technology was low at 2.18. Expectations of the latest technology in HE classes in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution averaged 3.85, slightly higher than the middle of 3.
Background: The healthcare needs of cancer patients are complex and persons involved in their caregiving process are faced with many issues that need to be addressed. The entire family and particularly the person taking on responsibility for patient care develop expectations from healthcare professionals, especially nurses. Objective: The study was conducted to evaluate the impact of a home education program provided to caregivers of cancer patients on the level of their perceived social support and problems in caregiving. Interventions/Methods: The caregivers of thirty seven cancer patients of 2,400 registered people in a family center were given an educational program in this descriptive and cross-sectional study twice a week for a month during the period of March 2011 - April 2011. Results: Of all caregivers, 56.8% were between the ages 36-40, 94.5% were female, 91.9% had received no education on caregiving, 81.0% stated that they mostly felt physically and mentally inadequate in their caregiving. Perceived Social Support from the family indicated a significant difference at $8.05{\pm}4.38$ before and $11.7{\pm}4.97$ after the education. A comparison of the mean scores of caregivers on emotional issues before and after the education revealed the following: spiritual distress scores were $2.54{\pm}0.69$ before and $2.44{\pm}0.43$ after the education; hopelessness scores, $2.24{\pm}0.59$ before and $2.23{\pm}0.38$ after the education; ineffective individual coping was $3.89{\pm}1.42$ before and $2.45{\pm}0.59$ after the education; competing needs in decision-making were $3.54{\pm}0.69$ before and $2.10{\pm}1.24$ after the education; depressive feeling were $3.01{\pm}1.53$ before and $2.02{\pm}0.99$ after the education (p<0.05). Conclusions: Positive effects of home education on levels of perceived social support and caregiving problems of caregivers of cancer patients were observed. Home educational programs for caregivers of cancer patients are important for both better understanding of the requirements of their patients and themselves.
We propose a novel method to extract keyframes from home videos based on the 5W and 1H information. Keyframe extraction is a kind of video summarization which selects only specific frames containing important information of a video. As a home video may have content with a variety of topics, we cannot make specific assumptions for information extraction. In addition, to summarize a home video we must analyze human behaviors, because people are important subjects in home videos. In this paper, we extract 5W and 1H information by analyzing human faces, human behaviors, and the global information of background. Experimental results demonstrate that our technique extract more similar keyframes to human selections than previous methods.

The purposes of the study is to see as to how much of changes has occurred in the newly revised Home Economics Textbooks required by the 6th Curriculum as compared to those by the former the 5th Curriculum, and to seek future policy directions which can be improved even better, if any, for further revision. To implement this proposal, the study employs 8 different textbooks published in 1997 geared for the 6th Curriculum for data base. The components of the contents divides into two major parts. The first part falls into a category of holistic analysis of the textbooks, which gives a general perspective of the changes in the textbook revised. It includes those areas of changes in the total number of pages, cover page, illustrations, table of contents, appendices, unit cover, introductory remarks, summary and evaluation, etc. It also covers the information on authors of textbook. The latter part consists of several specific areas of major changes occurred in the textbooks for the 6th Curriculum. It covers such areas of changes in the composition of category and its weight, laboratory experiences, and illustrations and tables. To conclude the study, among many findings, two major points are of great importance to mention here. First, the new textbooks have adopted more of varieties in physical appearances and contents per se as to the older ones. And yet, there still found a weakness in numbers of authors participated to a full reflection of contents variety. In addition, the background of authors reflected on an unrealistic idealism which lacks the on-site information provided by the school teachers. Second, the strict regulations created by the Ministry of Education for developing textbook found restricting the authors creativity and thus contents variety of textbooks. Those restricting factors include letter type and size, coloring, paper quality, and volume size.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to examine the association of Japanese schoolchildren's involvement in at-home meal preparation with food intake and cooking skill. SUBJECTS/METHODS: We included 1,207 fifth-grade children aged 10-11 years and one parent of each child. A cross-sectional survey was used to collect data on involvement in at-home meal preparation. Correspondence analysis was used to classify involvement in at-home meal preparation into three groups: food-related activities (cooking only or with other activities such as shopping, table-setting, clean up, and dishwashing), non-food-related activities (table-setting and/or clean up), and no (helping) activities. Food intake was assessed using a food frequency questionnaire. Logistic regression models were used to examine involvement in at-home meal preparation associations. RESULTS: The sample consisted of 1,207 fifth-grade children. Vegetable intake was lower in the no (helping) activities group than the food-related activities group (95% CI; boys: 1.2, 5.1, girls: 2.0, 8.9). Fewer children in the non-food-related activities group reported they were able to make a portion of their meals compared with the food-related activities group (95% CI; boys: 1.6, 3.5; girls: 1.5, 3.2). CONCLUSIONS: Children in the food-related activities group showed more favorable food intake and cooking skills than children in the no (helping) activities or non-food-related activities group.
