Performance enhancement of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) is investigated in a device structure of ITO/TPD/Alq3/LiF/Al and ITO/TPD/Alq3/BCP/LiF/Al. Here, bathocuproine (BCP) is used as an electron-transport layer. Current density-voltage-luminance characteristics of the OLEDs show that the performance of the device is better with BCP layer than without BCP layer. The current density, luminance, luminous efficiency, and external-quantum efficiency are improved by approximately 22%, 50%, 2%, and 18%, respectively. Since the BCP layer lowers the electron energy barrier, electron transport is facilitated and the movement of hole is blocked as the applied voltage increases. This results in an increased recombination rate of holes and electrons.
The present paper centers on the establishment of a quantified relationship between the macroscopic visual parameters of a Diesel spray and its most influential factors. The factors considered are the ambient gas density, as an external condition relative to the injection system, and nozzle hole diameter and injection pressure as internal ones. The main purpose of this work is to validate and extend the different correlations available in the literature to the present state of the Diesel engine, i.e. high injection pressure, small nozzle holes, severe cavitating conditions, etc. Five mono-orifice, axi-symmetrical nozzles with different diameters have been studied in two different test rigs from which one can reproduce solely the real engine in-cylinder air density, and the other, both the density and the pressure. A parametric study was carried out and it enabled the spray tip penetration to be expressed as a function of nozzle hole diameter, injection pressure and environment gas density. The temporal synchronization of the penetration and injection rate data revealed a possible explanation for the discontinuity observed as well by other authors in the spray's penetration law. The experimental results obtained from both test rigs have shown good agreement with the theoretical analysis. There have been observed small but consistent differences between the two test rigs regarding the spray penetration and cone angle, and thus an analysis of the possible causes for these differences has also been included.
In the previous work we made a long term evolution code for the central black hole in an active galactic nucleus under the assumption that the Blandford-Znajek process is the source of the emission. Using our code we get the evolution of the angular velocity of the precession for a supermassive black hole. We consider a hole at the center of an axisymmetric, ellipsoidal galactic nucleus. Our numerical results show that, only for the cases such that the stellar density or the mass of the black hole is large enough, the precession of the black hole - presumably the precession of the galactic jet - is interestingly large.

In this study, a shape optimization is performed for circular and elliptical holes to reduce weight of a plate. It is accomplished in reference to the results of topology optimization of the square plate with circular hole. From the results. it is concluded that the stress values of shape optimization of them are satisfied with 100MPa of constraint condition.
High redshift quasars (z > 5) hold keys to understanding the evolution of the universe in its early stage. Yet, the number of high redshift quasars uncovered from previous studies is relatively small (70 or so), and are concentrated mostly in a limited redshift range (z ~ 6). To understand the early mass growth of supermassive black holes and the final stage of the cosmic reionization, it is important to find a statistically meaningful sample of quasars with various physical properties. Here we present a survey for high redshift quasars at 5 < z < 7. Through color selection techniques using multi-wavelength data, we found quasar candidates and carried out imaging follow-up observations to reduce contaminants. After optical spectroscopy, we discovered eight new quasars. We obtained near-infrared spectra for 3 of these 8 quasars, measured their physical properties such as black hole masses and Eddington ratios, and found that the high redshift quasars we discovered are growing via accretion more vigorous than those of their lower redshift counterparts. We estimated the quasar number densities from our discoveries and compared them to those expected from the quasar luminosity functions in literature. In contrast to the observed number density of quasars at z ~ 5, which agrees with literature, the observed number density at z ~ 7 shows values lower than what is expected, even after considering an extrapolated number density evolution. We conclude that the quasar number density at z ~ 7 declines toward higher redshift, more steeply than the empirically expected evolution.
The gas response characteristic toward C2H5OH has been demonstrated in terms of copper-vacancy concentration, hole density, and microstructural factors for undoped/Li(I)-doped CuO thin films prepared by sol-gel method. For the films, both concentrations of intrinsic copper vacancies and electronic holes decrease with increasing calcination temperature from 400 to 500 to 600 ℃. Li(I) doping into CuO leads to the reduction of copper-vacancy concentration and the enhancement of hole density. The increase of calcination temperature or Li(I) doping concentration in the film increases both optical band gap energy and Cu2p binding energy, which are characterized by UV-vis-NIR and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, respectively. The overall hole density of the film is determined by the offset effect of intrinsic and extrinsic hole densities, which depend on the calcination temperature and the Li(I) doping amount, respectively. The apparent resistance of the film is determined by the concentration of the structural defects such as copper vacancies, Li(I) dopants, and grain boundaries, as well as by the hole density. As a result, it is found that the gas response value of the film sensor is directly proportional to the apparent sensor resistance.
Nano-structured electrodes were fabricated to develop efficient photoelectrochemical conversion systems for the synthesis of hydrogen from water and hydrocarbon fuels from $CO_2$. In this work, we compared the photoactivity of rutile $TiO_2$ nanorods grown on FTO and SEED/FTO by a hydrothermal method. An analysis of the microstructures showed that the density of nanorod/SEED/FTO samples, which showed only the (002) peak in their x-ray diffraction patterns, was two times higher than that of a nanorod/FTO sample. The photocurrent density of nanorod/SEED/FTO samples was increased by as much as 40% of the photocurrent density of the nanorod/FTO sample due to the increased specific density of the nanorods. However, the transient time for a recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes was 20 times faster in the nanorod/SEED/FTO. The seed layers are discussed as possible recombination sites.
A sand replacement method is commonly used to determine the density of the compacted soils. The density of the test or compacted soil is computed on the assumption that the calibration container has approximately the same size or volume and allows the sand to deposit approximately in the same way as a test hole in the field. The sand filling process is simulated in the laboratory and its effect on the determination of density is investigated. Artificially-made holes with different heights and bottom shapes are prepared to simulate various shapes of the test hole in the field. Three sands with different gradations are used in the testing to examine how sand grain size influences the determination of density in the field. As the height of a test hole increases, the error between known density and calculated density decreases, regardless of the types of test hole and sand used. The results of this study can be used to reevaluate and revise the test method for soil density by the sand replacement method.
The characteristics of carbonaceous particles collected from the combustion of Vacuum Residue (VR) in a test furnace have been investigated. The physical and chemical characterization includes particle size, scanning electron microscopy of the surface structure, measurement of porosity, surface area and density, EDX/XRD analyses and measurement of chemical composition. The studies show that the carbonaceous VR particles are very porous and spheroidal, and have many blow-holes on the surface. The particles become smaller and more sponge-like as the reaction proceeds. The present porosity of VR particles is similar to that of cenospheres from the combustion of heavy oil, and the majority of pores are distributed in macro-pores above $0.03\;{\mu}m$ in diameter. Measurements of pore distribution and surface area showed that the macro-pores contributed most to total pore volume, whereas the micro-pores contributed to total surface area.
In this paper, we present flow patterns around and performance of an air-flow separator by using the numerical analysis. With this separator, particles of different density are to be separated by using the drag force from the air flow. The low-density particles are designed to be separated by using inhalation through holes on a rotating drum. To obtain the flow informations needed for determining the proper design parameters, we have performed numerical simulations by using a commercial code, ANSYS CFX. Various parameter set was tested and it was found that depending on the design of drums there exist critical parameter set regarding the attachment of light particles on the drum, which is prerequisite for the separation of materials. We present here the possibility of using the present design in separation of particles mixed in the clod for use in recycling.
