The principal aim of this field study was to determine the concentrations and emissions of gaseous contaminants such as ammonia and hydrogen sulfide in the different types of pig buildings in Korea and allow objective comparison between Korea and the other countries in terms of pig housing types. This field study was performed from May to June and from September to October in 2002. Pig buildings investigated in this research were selected in terms of three criteria; manure removal system, ventilation mode and growth stage of pig. Measurements of concentration and emission of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide in the pig buildings were done in 5 housing types and the visited farms were 15 sites per each housing type. Concentrations of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide were measured at three locations of the central alley in the pig building and emission rates of them were estimated by multiplying the average concentration($mg/m^3$) measured near the air outlet by the mean ventilation rate($m^3/h$) and expressed either per pig of liveweight 75kg(mg/h/pig) or per area($mg/h/m^2$). Concentrations of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide in the pig buildings were averaged to 7.5 ppm and 286.5 ppb and ranged from 0.8 to 21.4 ppm and from 45.8 to 1,235 ppb, respectively. The highest concentrations of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide were found in the mechanically ventilated buildings with slats; 12.1 ppm and 612.8 ppb, while the lowest concentrations of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide were found in the pig buildings with deep-litter bed system(2.2 ppm) and the naturally ventilated pig buildings with manure removal system by scraper(115.2 ppb), respectively(p<0.05). All the pig buildings were investigated not to exceed the threshold limit values(TLVs) of ammonia(25 ppm) and hydrogen sulfide(10 ppm). The mean emissions of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide per pig(75kg in terms of liveweight) and area($m^2$) from pig buildings were 250.2 mg/h/pig and 37.8 mg/h/pig and $336.3mg/h/m^2$ and $50.9mg/h/m^2$, respectively. The pig buildings with deep-litter bed system showed the lowest emissions of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide(p<0.05). However, the emissions of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide from the other pig buildings were not significantly different(p>0.05). Concentrations and emissions of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide were relatively higher in the pig buildings managed with deep-pit manure system with slats and mechanical ventilation mode than the different pig housing types. In order to prevent pig farm workers from adverse health effect caused by exposure to ammonia and hydrogen sulfide in pig buildings, they should wear the respirators during shift and be educated sustainably for the guideline related to occupational safety.

The failure strength of composite single-lap joint repaired using scarf patch was investigated by test and finite element method. A total of 45 specimens were tested changing scarf ratio, stacking pattern, and defect size to study the failure strength and mode. Except for one case, all repaired specimens showed the equal or higher strength than the sound specimens and the effect of considered repair parameters was not remarkable. It was found through the failure mode inspection that the surface treatment for bonding was not enough in the case which failed at the lower load than the sound specimen. Three-dimensional finite element analysis was conducted to verify the test results. It was confirmed that the considered repair parameters do not significantly affect the stress distribution of the specimens. It was also observed that the applied tensile load is relieved passing through the overlapped region thickness of which is almost double. From this study, it is concluded that if the bonding procedure for adherends and patch including surface treatment for fabric layer is thoroughly followed, the strength of repaired single-lap joint can be restored up to the strength of sound one.
The fermentation of various sugars by C. thermosaccharolyticum was examined under pH controlled, anaerobic condition. The kinetic model for Product formation at various sugars was the combination of growth and non-growth associated mode. In the utilization of a single sugar, glucose was the best carbon source for growth. The specific growth rate of glucose, xylose and cellobiose were 0.363 h$^{-1}$, 0.242 h$^{-1}$ and 0.144 h$^{-1}$ respectively. The production of ethanol from glucose showed a negatively growth associated mode, so the higher growth rate decreased the productivity of ethanol. The maximum concentrations of the produced ethanol were 2.42 g/l, 3.76 g/l, and 3.4 g/l on glucose, xylose, and cellobiose. No glucose was detected during cellobiose fermentation. Sequential utilization of sugars was observed in the mixtures of glucose, xylose and cellobiose. It preferred glucose, followed by xylose and then cellobiose. The presence of other sugars had little or no effect on the rate of another sugar utilization. Cell lysis at the end of fermentation occured more slowly in the mixtures of sugars than a single sugar.
The present study was carried out to investigate the effects of EGF and anti-EGF on early embryonic development and hatching in mice. Developmental and hatching rates of mouse em-bryos from 2-cell to morular stage which were cultured in Ham's FlO medium supplemented with EGF (1-1,000 ng/ml) or anti-EGF (whole serum diluted from 1:10 to 1:1,000) were compared to those of control When mouse early 2-cell embryos were cultured in the EGF supplemented medium, blastulation was accelerated compared with control. Hatching rate was also significantly (p
The bond strengths of composite resin to tooth dentin vary with the methods of cavity preparation and surface treatment. Recent developments in techniques of dentinal surface treatment have renewed interest in microabrasive as a means of tooth preparation, The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a new method of cavity preparation on the bond of composite resin to dentin. Freshly extracted 144 healthy human third molars were used in this study. The dentin surfaces prepared with #600 SiC abrasive paper were divided into control and air abrasion groups according to the method of dentin surface preparation using different combinations of delivery pressure, time, and acid etching. The shear bond strengths were measured after the composite resin (Clearfil Photo Bright) was bonded to prepared dentin surfaces by light-curing using a dentin bonding system (All-bond 2), In addition, the average surface roughness was measured to investigate the effect of differently prepared dentin surfaces on the shear bond strengths. The surface changes of prepared dentin and the debonded dentin surfaces were observed with SEM (S-2300, Hitachi Co., Japan). The following results from this-study were obtained ; 1. There was no significant difference of shear bond strengths according to the changes of delivery pressure and time. 2. The shear bond strengths were lower than the control in the air abraded-only groups, but those of the additional acid-etched groups were higher than the control. 3. The shear bond strengths to all air-abraded surfaces were increased by acid etching. 4. The correlation between shear bond strengths and surface roughness was not certain, although the mean surface roughness of all air-abraded surfaces has increased evidently while it has slightly decreased for additional acid etching. 5. On SEM examination, the dentinal tubules were almost occluded in the air abraded-only groups, but those were opened in the additional acid-etched groups. 6. The debonded surfaces were showed adhesive failure mode in the air abraded- only groups, while those were showed mainly the mixed and cohesive failure mode in the additional acid-etched groups. These results suggest that the layer produced during cavity preparation or surface treatment with air abrasion must be removed for maximum bond strength of composite resin to dentin.
The use of materials for modern lightweight auto-bodies is becoming more complex than hitherto assemblies. The high strength materials nowadays frequently used for more specific fields such as the front and rear sub frames, seat belts and seats are mounted to the assembled body structure using bolt joints. It is desirable to use nuts attached to the assembled sheets by projection welding to decrease the number of loose parts which improves the quality. In this study, nut projection welding was carried out between a nut of both boron steel and carbon steel and ultra-high strength hot-stamped steel sheets. Then, the joints were characterized by optical and scanning electron microscope. The mechanical properties of the joints were evaluated by microhardness measurements and pullout tests. An indigenously designed sample fixture set-up was used for the pull-out tests to induce a tensile load in the weld. The fractography analysis revealed the dominant interfacial fracture between boron steel nut weld which is related to the shrinkage cavity and small size fusion zone. A non-interfacial fracture was observed in carbon steel nut weld, the lower hardness of HAZ caused the initiation of failure and allowed the pull-out failure which have higher in tensile strengths and superior weldability. Hence, the fracture load and failure mode characteristics can be considered as an indication of the weldability of materials in nut projection welding.

This paper is a study on the evaluation of loss factor of damping treatment materials to reduce the noise and vibration for panels of railway vehicles and automobiles. In order to determine the modal parameters of damping materials, beam excitation tests were carried out using different type PVC coated aluminum and steel base beam specimens. The specimens were excited from 10 Hz to 1000 Hz frequency range using sinusoidal force, and transfer mobility data were measured by using an accelerometer. The loss factors were determined by using integrated program, based on theories of Half Power Method, Minimum Tangent Error Method, Minimum Angle Error Method and Phase Change Method, which enable to evaluate the parameters using modal circle fit and least squares error method. In the case of lower loss factor and data of linear characteristics, any method could be applied for evaluation of parameters, however the case of higher loss factor or data including non-linear characteristics, the minimum angle error method could reduce the loss factor evaluation. The obtained dynamic properties of the coating material could be used for application of Finite Element Method analyzing the noise control effects of complex structures such as carbody or under-floor boxes of rolling stock. The damping material will be very useful to control the structural noise, because the obtained modal loss factors of each mode show very good effect on over $2^{nd}$ mode frequency range.

The purpose of this research is to clarify the relation between environmental consciousness and railway usage behavior. Author would locate this research on position of basic survey to promote railway use according to Low Carbon Green Growth policy in Korea. In this research, we would perform descriptive analysis using data of research on the actual condition of railway use in 2008, Daegu, and describe its relationship. In addition, we would suggest some idea about policy which can promote railway use. The order of railway choice behavior noticed in clustering of environmental consciousness was cooperative behavior type, middle type and non-cooperative behavior type. It suggests that environmental consciousness has effect on transportation choice behavior. Specially, railway improvement isn't enough to promote railway use. And, it is advisable to carry out the improvement in such a way that it may encourage the nation to move from the current environmental consciousness stage to cooperative behavior. Moreover, we assumed Binary Probit(BP) model using SP data of time or condition of transportation expense compared with passenger car and bus. As the results, modified likelihood ratio of two BP models is favorable variables. And it occurred that mode was transferred from passenger car to railway when it showed higher social environment consciousness and low selfish environment consciousness, because t-statistic which represents selfish environment consciousness showed significance in 95% confidence level. That is, it can be described that environment consciousness affect on the intention of railway use.

Epoxy-based carbon fibers reinforced plastic (CFRP) exhibit limitations in their suitability for industrial applications due to high brittleness characteristics. To address this challenge, extensive investigations are underway to enhance their toughness properties. This research focuses on evaluating the toughening mechanisms achieved by Polyamide 6 particles(p-PA6) and Carboxyl-Terminated Butadiene-Acrylonitrile (CTBN) elastomer, with a specific emphasis on utilizing minimal additive quantities. The study explores the impact of varying concentrations of p-PA6 and CTBN additives, namely 0.5, 1, 2.5, and 5 phr, through comprehensive Mode I fracture toughness and tensile strength analyses. The inclusion of p-PA6 demonstrated improvements in toughness when introduced at a relatively low content of 1phr. This improvement manifested as a sustained fracture behavior, contributing to enhanced toughness, while simultaneously maintaining the material's tensile strength. Furthermore, the investigation revealed that the incorporation of p-PA6 affected in particle aggregation, thus influencing the overall toughening mechanism. Incorporation of CTBN, an elastomeric modifier, exhibited a pronounced increase in fracture toughness at higher concentrations of 2.5 phr and beyond. However, this increase in toughness was accompanied by a reduction in tensile strength, resulting in fracture behavior similar to conventional CFRP exhibiting brittleness. The synergy between pPA6, CTBN and CFRP appeared to marginally enhance tensile strength under specific content conditions. As a result of this study, optimized conditions for the application of the p-PA6, CTBN toughening technology have been identified and established.

In a bursty user traffic mode, ALOHA random multiple access protocol achieves higher performance than any conventional fixed assignment technique. One of central problems in slotted ALOHA is synchronization. Because of the long propagation delay in satellite mobile communication, packet may be spilt over into adjacent slots and thus guard time may be included between packet intervals. In conventional ALOHA channels, simultaneous transmission by two or more users results in a collision : the unsuccessful packets have to be retransmitted according to some retransmission algorithm. However, in a radio environment, users are often at different distances from the receiver : therefore, their received signals have substantially different power levels. The packet arriving with the highest energy now has a good chance of being detected accurately. Similarly, in some spread-spectrum random access systems, the earliest arriving packet dominates later arriving packets and thus captures the channel. In this paper slotted ALOHA channel with non zero guard time and capture probability is studied. Using the Markovian model, the performance of slotted ALOHA with guard time and capture effects is derived and compared with that of the conventional ALOHA via numerical analysis.
