치료받기전 고혈압 환자의 신체계측치와 생화학적 영양상태 특성에 관한 연구 (Characteristic of Anthropometric Data and Biochemical Nutritional Status of Hypertensive Patients before Treatment)

  • Nutrition related factors were investigated in one hundred and two hypertensive patients(Male : 44, female : 58) before they started drug treatment or diet therapy. The mean age of men and women were 49.9 and 53.5, respectively. Among the men, their mean SBP and DBP were 165.8 mmHg/108.4 mmHg. Fifty six point eight percent of men was classified as having in stage 3 hypertension(SBP $\geq$ 180 mmHg, or DBP $\geq$ 110 mmHg) and 45.5% was classified as having low renin hypertension (serum renin < 2.5 ng/ml/h). The proportion of overweight or obesity assessed by BMI($\geq$ 25) or body fat percent( $\geq$ 21%) was 47.7% or 80.9%, respectively. Men showed 19.1% of hypertriglyceridemia(serum TG $\geq$ 200 mg/dl), 42.6% of hypercholesterolemia(serum cholesterol $\geq$ 220 mg/dl), and 17.0% was observed as having serum cholesterol higher than 240 mg/dl. The proportion of men with high risk of cardiovascular disease was 72.3% assessed by atherogenic index( $\geq$3.4). The prevalence of drinking was 86.4% including a daily drinking proportion of 15.8%. Among women, their mean SBP and DBP were 162.6 mmHg/104.3 mmHg. Less women(43.1%) were classified as having stage 3 hypertension and more women were observed in low renin hypertension(55.1%). The prevalence of obesity or overweight assessed by BMI( $\geq$ 25) was 31.0% and 76.3% with body At percent($\geq$28%). Women revealed 24.1% of hypertriglyceridemia and 36.2% of hypercholesterolemia. The proportion of women who showed high risk of cardiovascular disease(atherogenic index $\geq$ 3.4) was 63.8%. The smoking rate was 8.6% and drinking rate was 43.1%.

식이성 고지혈 및 비만에 대한 산마늘 추출물의 효과 (Effect of Allium Victorialis Var. platyphyllum Leaves on Triton WR-1339-Induced and Poloxamer-407-Induced Hyperlipidemic Rats and on Diet-Induced Obesity Rats)

  • The herb of Allium victorialis var. platyphyllum (Liliaceae) has been used as an edible wild herb and to treat heart failure and gastritis. We have already reported antihyperlipidemic anti-tumor effects of this plant. To enlarge the commercial availability of this food, it was investigated whether the extracts of A. victorialis var. platyphyllum reduce hyperlipidemia and obesity or not. The plants tested in this experiment were collected from two eco-types of Is. Ullung and Mt. Odae cultivated at Pyongchang. Extracts were prepared by extracting the fresh leaves and those dried at $36^{\circ}C$ and $90^{\circ}C$, respectively. Pretreatment with the ethanolic extracts for two weeks(p.o.) reduced serum triglyceride-, total cholesterol- and LDL-cholesterol contents in rats induced by Triton WR-1339, respectively. Furthermore, oral administration of the extracts also inhibited the hyperlipidemia induced with oral diet of 30% corn oil. In the other attempt to find to alleviate the obesity, the model rats with obesity were induced by the high fat-diet for six weeks. Post-treatment with the extracts for two weeks significantly reduced the hyperlipidemia. Retroperitoneal-, epidymal- and total abdominal fat pad weights were considerably reduced at 100 mg/kg oral administration of the extracts. Increased feces lipid contents were also found in the rat treated with the extracts. The extract may lead to the higher activity in treatment of hyperlipidemia and obesity than of the dried one.

Protective effects of alginate-free residue of sea tangle against hyperlipidemic and oxidant activities in rats

  • The antihyperlipidemic and antioxidant activities of dietary supplementation of sea tangle from Goseong and the alginate-free residue of sea tangle were investigated in Sprague Dawley rats treated with a high-fat diet, streptozotocin, poloxamer 407, and bromobenzene. The alginate-free residue of Goseong sea tangle induced a significant reduction in triglycerides and total cholesterol levels, as well as a significant increase in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. Alginate-free Goseong sea tangle residue reduced the activities of the phase I enzymes aminopyrine N-demethylase and aniline hydroxylase, which had been increased by intraperitoneal injection of bromobenzene. Pretreatment with Goseong sea tangle residue prevented a bromobenzene-induced decrease in epoxide hydrolase activity. Bromobenzene reduced hepatic glutathione content and increased hepatic lipid peroxide levels. Pretreatment with alginate-free Goseong sea tangle residue prevented lipid peroxidation induced by bromobenzene, but pretreatment with Goseong sea tangle did not. These results suggest that Goseong sea tangle residue exerted antihyperlipidemic and antioxidant activities that were higher than those induced by alginate-containing sea tangle. Therefore, the alginate-free residue may contain physiologically unknown active components, other than alginic acid, which may potentially be used to prevent hyperlipidemic atherosclerosis.

Whole Food Interventions and Nutrient Displacement: Tomato Sauce Entrees for Prostate Cancer Patients

  • This study sought to determine changes in self-selected diets in response to a high energy tomato pasta entree. Thirty men, mostly African-American, who were diagnosed with prostate cancer and also scheduled for prostatectomy were enrolled in the study. Dietary intakes were obtained by 24 hr diet recall for 3 days before the intervention and 3 days in week 2 during the intervention. Tomato pasta entrees were formulated to contain 30 mg of lycopene with roughly the same macronutrient composition and averaged 771 kcal/entree. Mean adherence to lycopene dose was 82% and, days when the entree was consumed, the mean adherence to lycopen was 90%. Lycopene intake in their self-selected diet decreased from 5 to 1 mg/day which lowered the exposure to lycopene, planned during the intervention. The men were able to decompensate for most of the added energy to their diet, but there was still a mean increase in total intake of 242 kcal/day (p=0.04), which did not result in weight gain over the short period of the study. There were no significant changes in the percent of energy from protein, fat or carbohydrates, but dietary cholesterol increased from 341 to 472 mg/day (p=0.0002). Mean intakes of vitamins A and C, and folate were not significantly different and were above the EAR. Vitamin E intake decreased, but, because of the variance in intake, the decrease was not statistically significant. Possible deterioration of diet quality should be a consideration when recommending whole food interventions for the prevention of chronic disease or the amelioration of physiological dysfunction.

고지방식이를 통해 비만이 유발된 마우스에서 무청 추출물의 항비만 효과 (Anti-obesity effect of radish leaf extracts on high fat diet-induced obesity in mice)

  • 본 연구에서는 MU-C와 MU-CA에 대해 3T3-L1 세포를 이용하여 지방분화 억제 효과와 고지방식이를 통해 비만을 유도한 마우스에서 항비만 효과를 조사하였다. 3T3-L1 세포를 adipocyte로 분화 시키면서 무청 추출액을 세포에 처리한 후 Oil red O 염색법을 통하여 지방축적을 비교해 본 결과 Control 대비 MU-C와 MU-CA 처리군에서 세포 지방 축적이 현저히 감소 되었으며, MU-C 처리군이 MU-CA 처리군에 비해 유의적으로 억제되었음을 확인하였다. 6주간의 동물실험을 통한 무청 추출액 투여 후 체중 측정 결과 MU-C군과 MU-CA군 순으로 HFD군에 비해 체중 증가를 감소시키는 효과는 보였으며, 시료 투여 4주차부터 HFD군에 비해 시료 투여군에서 유의적으로 체중이 감소함을 확인하였다. 또한, MU-C군과 MU-CA군 순으로 HFD군에 비해 지방량이 적음을 확인할 수 있었다. 실험 종료 후 간 무게와 지방무게를 측정한 결과 절대 장기 무게와 상대 장기 무게 모두 MUC군과 MU-CA군 순으로 HFD군에 비해 유의적으로 무게가 감소하였다. 혈중 TG, TC 함량 측정 및 동맥경화지수와 심장위험도 지수 계산 결과 MU-C군과 MU-CA군 순으로 HFD군에 비해 유의적으로 감소 하였으며, 혈청 내 간 기능 효소(ALT, AST) 측정 결과 또한 MU-C군과 MU-CA군 순으로 HFD군에 비해 유의적으로 감소하였다. 병리조직학적 분석 결과 HFD군의 경우 지방축적 정도 심하였고, 일부에서 염증과 풍선도를 볼 수 있었다. MU-C군과 MU-CA군에서는 일부 간세포에 염증과 지방이 침착된 것을 확인하였으며, HFD군에 비해 간세포가 균일하게 배열되어 있고 지방 축적 정도는 감소된 모습을 관찰하였다. 지방세포의 경우도 대체적으로 균일한 크기에 지방세포를 가지고 있음이 관찰되었다. HFD군 비해 MU-C군과 MU-CA군 순으로 지방세포의 크기가 유의적으로 감소를 나타내었다. 이러한 실험 결과를 보았을 때 체중 변화, 지방무게, 혈중지질, ALT, AST 수치에서 열수 추출한 MU-C군이 MU-CA군에 비해 유의적으로 감소하여 MU-C군이 항비만 효과에 더 효과적인 물질로 확인된다. 이는 유기산 첨가 시 수용성 식이섬유와 불용성 식이섬유가 분리되어 수용성 식이섬유 보다 불용성 식이섬유의 함유량이 증가에 따른 성분 차이로 판단되며(Kim, 2011), 가수분해를 통한 생리활성 물질의 추출 수율 증가로 인해 MU-C군이 비만 예방 효과에 따른 건강기능식품 소재로 적극 활용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

함초의 비만 및 혈중 지질에 미치는 영향에 대한 메타분석 (Meta-analysis on the Effect of obesity and blood lipid levels in Salicornia herbacea)

  • 본 연구는 함초를 섭취한 동물쥐에서 비만과 혈중 지질의 개선 효과에 대한 실험을 체계적 문헌고찰을 통해 통계적으로 분석하였다. 각각의 개별 연구는 PubMed, Embase, RISS, DBpia, NDSL과 같은 데이터베이스로부터 수집되었다. 통계분석을 통해 효과크기를 측정하기 위해 Review Manager 5.3 프로그램이 이용되었고 총 9개의 연구가 최종적으로 포함되었다. 비만유발 흰쥐에서 함초의 섭취는 몸무게를 유의적으로 감소시켰다. 그러나, 식이효율, 간지수와 총콜레스테롤에서 통계적 유의성이 없었다. 또한, 효과크기가 중성지방은 감소하고, 고밀도 콜레스테롤은 증가하였다. 이러한 통계적 분석은 함초가 강력한 항비만과 혈중 지질 개선 효과를 가진다는 결과는 보여준다.

고지방식이로 유도된 비만 마우스에서 청국장의 항비만 및 항염증 효과 (Anti-obesity and Anti-inflammation Effects of Cheonggukjang in C57Bl/6 mice with High Fat Diet Induced Obesity)

  • 본 연구에서는 청국장의 항비만 및 항염증 효과를 알아보고자 C57BL/6 마우스에 고지방식이를 13주감 섭취시켜 비만을 유도한 후에 고지방 식이에 청국장을 10% 첨가하여 항비만과 항염증 활성을 확인하였다. 고지방식이를 통해 비만이 유도된 mice (HFD)에 고지방식이와 함께 청국장을 첨가하여 섭취한 그룹(CGJ)의 체중 증가율은 고지방식이군과 비교하였을 때 현저하게 감소하였을 뿐만 아니라 정상식이군보다도 유의적으로 감소하였으며 혈중 TG, TC, glucose, insulin, AST와 ALT 분비는 감소하였고 adiponectin의 수치는 유의적으로 증가하였다(p<0.05). 또한 H&E와 Oil red O staining을 통해 13주 동안 고지방식이를 통해 유도된 지방 간의 심각정도가 청국장의 섭취로 인하여 감소한 것을 확인하였다(p<0.05). 간세포는 대식세포, T세포와 같은 면역시스템의 세포들을 포함하고 있는데 비만으로 유도된 간 조직의 염증반응에 청국장이 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위해 FACS 분석을 수행하였다. CGJ군은 HFD군에 비하여 T cell의 침윤과 대식세포의 축적, 호중구의 유입이 유의적으로 감소하였다(p<0.05). 간 조직으로 침윤된 면역세포의 증가가 간 조직 내 염증반응을 유도하는지 확인하기 위해 염증성 cytokine의 수준을 조사한 결과 간과 지방 조직에서 염증성 cytokine인 MCP-1과 $TNF-{\alpha}$의 mRNA 발현이 감소하였으며 지방합성에 관여하는 $PPAR-{\gamma}$, SREBP-1와 $CEBP/{\alpha}$의 mRNA 발현 역시 감소하였다. 이러한 결과들을 통해 청국장이 면역 시스템과 지방생성 전사 인자들의 발현에 관여함으로써 adipogenesis를 조절함과 동시에 염증 억제 효과를 가진다는 사실을 증명하였다.

밥 중심 식사가 마우스의 체중 및 혈중 지질 함량에 미치는 영향 (Effects of a Rice-Based Diet on Body Weight and Serum Lipid Levels in Mice)

  • 본 연구는 밥 중심 식사 패턴이 비만에 미치는 영향을 조사하고자 C57BL/6 마우스를 고지방식이 대조군(HFD), 밥 중심 식사 급여군(RD) 및 빵 중심 식사 급여군(BD)으로 분류하여 각 실험 식이를 5주간 공급하여 마우스의 체중 변화, 혈중 지질 함량, 지방조직의 무게 및 혈중 glucose 및 insulin 함량을 비교 측정하였다. 실험 결과, 모든 처리군에서 사료 섭취량의 유의적인 차이를 나타내지 않았으나, RD 급여군에서의 체중 증가량은 BD 급여군에 비하여 유의적으로 낮아졌다(p<0.05). 지방조직 무게 역시 RD 급여군에서 낮은 수치를 보였으며, 특히 부고환지방의 무게 및 지방세포의 크기는 BD 급여군에 비하여 현저하게 감소하였다. RD 급여군에서의 혈중 중성지방 및 총콜레스테롤, 포도당 및 인슐린 농도 역시 BD 급여군에 비하여 유의적으로 낮았다(p<0.05). 이상의 실험 결과를 종합해 볼 때, 밥 중심의 식사는 고지방 식이를 비롯한 빵 중심 식사에 비하여 체내 지방조직의 축적을 억제하고, 혈중 지질농도를 감소시키며, 혈당의 증가를 억제함으로써 비만 및 당뇨병 등의 대사성 질환을 개선하는 데에 있어서 효과적인 것으로 사료된다.

Effects of gender and slaughter age on physicochemical and quality traits of Korean Hanwoo striploin

  • Hanwoo beef is in high demand because of its unique flavor, freshness, and high-fat content. However, the longer rearing period required to enhance marbling in Hanwoo cattle has adverse environmental consequences, such as greenhouse gas emissions and overall rearing costs. To address consumer preferences for leaner and healthier meat, the Korean meat industry has recently introduced Hanwoo heifer meat as an alternative source, but its quality traits are still unclear. Nevertheless, there is a limited body of research exploring the impact of Hanwoo gender (steer, heifer, and cow) and their corresponding slaughter ages on meat quality traits. This study looked into how gender affected the physicochemical and qualitative features of Hanwoo striploin at their respective slaughter ages. Results revealed that cow striploin has higher levels of moisture (66.81%) and protein (20.76%), whereas it contains lower levels of fat (10.66%) and cholesterol (34.66 mg/100 g). Regarding the physicochemical properties, cow striploin exhibited significantly lower shear force, color indexes, and soluble collagen (p < 0.05). However, chondroitin (1.19%) and muscle fiber area (1,545.23 ㎛2) were significantly higher in steer striploin than in heifer and cow (p < 0.05). Cow striploin exhibited significantly higher levels of oleic acid, unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs), and monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) while having lower levels of eicosadienoic acid and atherogenic index compared to the other two groups. Cows and heifers had higher concentrations of amino acid metabolites than striploin from steers. Furthermore, bioactive metabolites such as carnitine and carnosine content were found higher in cow and heifer respectively. Overall, Hanwoo cattle gender influences the qualitative attributes of striploin; nevertheless, compared to steer and heifer striploin, cow striploin is a relatively good source of protein, fatty acid content, and metabolites conducive to a healthy diet.

가르시니아캄보지아 추출물 (HCA)과 L-Carnitine의 섭취 및 운동이 흰쥐의 체중에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Feeding Garcinia Cambogia Extract (HCA) and/or L-Carnitine and Exorcise on Body Weight in Rats)

  • This study was performed to investigate the effect of feeding garcinia cambogia extract (HCA) and/or L-carnitine and exercise (swimming) on body weight in rats. Forty-eight male rats (Charles River CD (SD) IGS) of eight weeks old and weighing $323.5\pm2.4g$ were raised for two months with high fat diet ($40\%$ fat as calorie) to induce obesity. After induction of obesity, rats weighing $552.8\pm5.8g$ were blocked into eight groups according to body weight and raised for six weeks with diet containing HCA and/or L-carnitine. Plasma aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, total protein and albumin levels were in normal ranges. Food and calorie intakes of H + C and H + C/H groups were highest among non-exercise (m) groups and exercise (I) groups. Food and calorie intakes of m groups were higher than those of I groups. E groups showed significantly lower body weight gain and calorie efficiency ratio than m groups and H/E group was the lowest among all groups. Perirenal fat pad weights of E groups were lower than m groups, and epididymal fat pad weights of H and H + C groups were lower than CO and C groups among m groups regardless of exercise treatment. Brown adipose tissue weights of I groups were higher than fn groups and highest in H/E group among all groups. Liver citrate lyase activities of H and C groups were lower than CO and H + C groups regardless of exercise treatment. The differences between NE groups and E groups were not found to be significantly. Liver carnitine acyltranferase activity was not significantly different among all groups. Fecal total lipid, triglyceride and total cholesterol excretions were found to be higher in H and H + C uoups compared to CO and C groups both in NE and E animals, those of lipid excretions of NE groups were higher than E groups. In conclusion, HCA was more effective in reduction of body weight and body fat than L-carnitine or HCA + L-carnitine. HCA ingestion with exercise was far more effective than without exercise treatment in reducing body weight and body fat.
