  • This study examined the mechanical properties and adiabatic temperature rise of low-heat concrete developed based on ternary blended cement using ASTM type IV (LHC) cement, ground fly ash (GFA) and limestone powder (LSP). To enhance reactivity of fly ash, especially at an early age, the grassy membrane was scratched through the additional vibrator milling process. The targeted 28-day strength of concrete was selected to be 42 MPa for application to high-strength mass concrete including nuclear plant structures. The concrete mixes prepared were cured under the isothermal conditions of $5^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$, and $40^{\circ}C$. Most concrete specimens gained a relatively high strength exceeding 10 MPa at an early age, achieving the targeted 28-day strength. All concrete specimens had higher moduli of elasticity and rupture than the predictions using ACI 318-11 equations, regardless of the curing temperature. The peak temperature rise and the ascending rate of the adiabatic temperature curve measured from the prepared concrete mixes were lower by 12% and 32%, respectively, in average than those of the control specimen made using 80% ordinary Portland cement and 20% conventional fly ash.

  • Liquid silicone rubber (LSR) has been widely used in automotive, electrical, and medical components. Thus, research on the use of LSR in the injection molding process is required to obtain high-quality and high-performance products. In this study, a mold was fabricated to examine the effects of the process parameters on the molding and mechanical properties of LSR parts. A computer-aided engineering analysis was used to optimize the air vent depth and curing temperature to decrease the flash at the air vents caused by the low viscosity of LSR. Temperature and pressure sensors were mounted in the mold to determine the effects of the process parameters on the temperature and pressure in the cavity. The tensile strength of the LSR parts was also examined in relation to the process parameters.

  • This study investigates the compressive strength of high-strength cement composites with 64 mixture designs and 2 curing conditions. The cement composites were designed with varying water-to-binder ratios, silica fume content to cement, and binder content per unit volume of cement composite to explore compressive strength development depending on its mix design. An increase in the water-to-binder ratio decreased the compressive strength of the composites, having consistency with the trend in normal concrete. The compressive strength increased with ages at an ambient curing temperature, but it was not identified at high-temperature curing. The compressive strength development was negligible in case that silica fume content to OPC is 15%~25%, but a decrease in the con ten t below 15% reduced compressive stren gth. It was more obvious in the specimen of low water-to-binder ratio. The specimen with 840kg/m3 of binder content per unit volume had the highest compressive strength in this study, and the decrease in binder content reduced the compressive strength of high strength cement composites in low silica fume content.

  • The high-pressure resin transfer molding (HP-RTM) process has a very effective for the mass production of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) for light weight in the automotive industry. In developing robust equipment, new process and fast cure matrix systems reduces significantly the cycle time less than 5 minutes in recent years. This paper describes the cavity pressure, temperature and molding characteristics of the HP-RTM process. The HP-RTM mold was equipped with two cavity pressure sensors and three temperature sensors. The cavity pressure characteristics of the HP-RTM injection, pressurization, and curing processes were studied. This experiment was conducted with selected process parameters such as mold cap size, maximum press force, and injection volume. Consequently, this monitoring method provides correlations between the selected process parameters and final forming characteristics in this work.

  • Recycled aggregate is a valuable resource in Korea in lack of natural aggregate. Government recognizes the importance and suggests various policies enhancing its use for higher value-added application. Most of recycled aggregate produced currently in Korea, however, is applied for low value-added uses such as embankment, reclamation, etc. Its higher valued application such as for structural concrete is very limited. Although domestic manufacturing technology of recycled aggregate is at the world level, recycled aggregate is not applied for structural concrete. Primary reasons for the limited use of the recycled aggregate include bonded mortar and cracks occurred during crushing and hence it is very difficult to predict and control the quality of recycled aggregate concrete. This research intended to grasp combined characteristics of recycled aggregate, high early strength cement, maximum temperature and time duration of steam curing and then, analyze the effects of factors. Also, it suggested the method to improve field applicability of recycled aggregate concrete.

  • Geopolymers were synthesized using raw materials produced from two different areas: one was from Indonesia and the other was from Habcheon, Korea. The constituting phases of the Indonesian raw material were quartz and kaolinite, while those of the Habcheon sample were quartz, halloysite and albite. They were both calcined at $750^{\circ}C$ for 6 hours, and solution of NaOH and water glass was added to activate the geopolymeric reaction. The compressive strength of geopolymer synthesized from the Indonesian raw material showed a low value of $151\;kgf/cm^2$ after curing for 28 days. However, it could be greatly increased by adding blast furnace slag powders of $1188\;kgf/cm^2$ and $1969\;kgf/cm^2$ at 20 wt% and 40 wt% additions, respectively. The compressive strength of the geopolymer synthesized from the Habcheon raw material was high, at $557\;kgf/cm^2$, after 28 days, and the very high early-stage (3 days) strength of $556\;kgf/cm^2$ for this sample was remarkable. Commercially available Habcheon metastate raw material, of which composition showed low CaO and $Na_2O$ contents compared to the calcined Habcheon raw material, was also examined. It was found that the compressive strength of the commercial metastate type was nearly identical to that of the calcined Habcheon raw material except for the relatively low value at an early curing stage and at a high curing temperature of $60^{\circ}C$.

  • This paper discusses the validity of models to predict the compressive strength of concrete subjected to various temperature histories and the shortcomings of existing rate constant model and apparent activation energy concept. Based on the discussion, a modified rate constant model is proposed. The modified rate constant model, in which apparent activation energy is a nonlinear function of curing temperature and age, accurately estimates the development of the experimental compressive strengths by a few researches. Also, the apparent activation energy of concrete cured with high temperature decreases rapidly with age, but that cured with low temperature decreases gradually with age. Finally a generalized model to predict apparent activation energy and compressive strength is proposed, which is based on the regression results.

  • This paper is intended to verify the efficiency of anti-freeze agent and insulating form by analyzing the temperature history and the property of strength-increase about the concrete that is placed in the insulating form and normal form, using new type anti-freeze agent in batcher plant According to the results about the temperature history, while the lowest temperature shows 3$^{\circ}C$ in case of normal concrete + euroform, 4$^{\circ}C$ in case of normal concrete + insulating form, it shows 6$^{\circ}C$ in anti-freeze agent + the insulating form, so the effect is most favorable. The compressive strength with mixing anti-freeze agent or not, shows high in order of standard curing, structure-managing and open air-placed specimen and the concrete mixing anti-freeze agent shows the highest compressive strength-increase.

  • The effect of heat-treatment temperature on the microwave absorbing properties was investigated in Ni0.8Zn0.2Fe2O4 specimens. The composite specimens were prepared by modling and curing the mixture of prereacted ferrite powder and silicone rubber. The measurement of complex permeability and permittivity was made by the reflection/transmission method. The most sensitive material constants with heat-treatment temperature is the imaginary (loss) component of permeability. The higher the heat-treatment temperature, the greater the magnetic loss. The composite specimens with high magnetic loss exhibited superior microwave absorbing properties. The quantitative estimation of microwave absorbing properties were made by plotting the observed material constants on the calculated solution map of impedance-matching.

  • Our country has experienced variations in temperature as belong to the area of the continental climate that shows four significant seasons. These occur immense difficulty on the period, cost, quality of construction. As the hydration of cement processes, the strength of concrete is developed. In order to improve the quality of concrete, various conditions including temperature and humidity should be maintained appropriately and concrete itself should be cured sufficiently. In the early age, the strength of concrete is developed remarkably. However, the hydration is accelerated too much in high temperature or delayed too much in low temperature, so the quality can be changed and It can fail to get the objective strength. This paper aims to offer the data, necessary to the quality control handbook.
