  • This study was designed to elucidate high $K^+$-induced relaxation in the human gastric fundus. Circular smooth muscle from the human gastric fundus greater curvature showed stretch-dependent high $K^+$ (50 mM)-induced contractions. However, longitudinal smooth muscle produced stretch-dependent high $K^+$-induced relaxation. We investigated several relaxation mechanisms to understand the reason for the discrepancy. Protein kinase inhibitors such as KT 5823 (1 ${\mu}M$) and KT 5720 (1 ${\mu}M$) which block protein kinases (PKG and PKA) had no effect on high $K^+$-induced relaxation. $K^+$ channel blockers except 4-aminopyridine (4-AP), a voltage-dependent $K^+$ channel ($K_V$) blocker, did not affect high $K^+$ -induced relaxation. However, N(G)-nitro-L-arginine and 1H-(1,2,4)oxadiazolo (4,3-A)quinoxalin-1-one, an inhibitors of soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) and 4-AP inhibited relaxation and reversed relaxation to contraction. High $K^+$-induced relaxation of the human gastric fundus was observed only in the longitudinal muscles from the greater curvature. These data suggest that the longitudinal muscle of the human gastric fundus greater curvature produced high $K^+$-induced relaxation that was activated by the nitric oxide/sGC pathway through a $K_V$ channel-dependent mechanism.

  • Recent trends in high-power-density applications have highlighted the importance of designing power converters with high-frequency operation. However, conventional LLC resonant converters present limitations in terms of high-frequency driving due to switching losses during the turn-off period. Switching losses are caused by the overlap of the voltage and current during this period, and can be decreased by reducing the switch voltage. In turn, the switch voltage can be reduced through a series connection of four switches, and additional circuitry is essential for balancing the voltage of each switch. In this work, a three-level LLC resonant converter that can operate at high frequency is proposed by reducing switch losses and balancing the voltages of all switches with only one capacitor. The voltage-balancing principle of the proposed circuit can be extended to n-level converters, which further reduces the switch voltage stress. As a result, the proposed circuit is applicable to high-input applications. To confirm the validity of the proposed circuit, theoretical analysis and experimental verification results from a 350 W-rated prototype are presented.

This study included 10 high-price medical equipments and used medical equipment registry data of Health Insurance Review Agency. The major findings of this study are as follows; Firstly, The number and growth of high-price medical equipments in South Korea is much higher than those in other OECD countries. There are many of high-price medical equipments even in clinics. Secondly, the percentage of old poor-quality medical equipments is very high, especially in clinics. This is because of high-price of medical equipments. The results of this study implicated that there is high possibility of inappropriate use of high-price medical technologies. This may result in the increase of health expenditure; therefore, there should be a kind of regulation policy to control amount and quality of medical equipment.

  • Bentonite is generally used as a buffer material in high-level radioactive waste disposal facilities and consists of 50% quartz by weight. Quartz strongly affects the behavior of bentonite over very long periods. For this reason, quartz dissolution experiment was performed under high-pressure and high-alkalinity conditions based on the conditions found in a high-level radioactive waste disposal facility located deep underground. In this study, two quartz dissolution experiments were conducted on 1) quartz beads under low-pressure and high-alkalinity conditions and 2) a single quartz crystal under high-pressure and high-alkalinity conditions. Following the experiments, a confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM) was used to observe the surfaces of experimental samples. Numerical analyses using the finite element method (FEM) were also performed to quantify the deformation of contact area. Quartz dissolution was observed in both experiments. This deformation was due to a concentrated compressive stress field, as indicated by the quartz deformation of the contact area through the FEM analysis. According to the numerical results, a high compressive stress field acted upon the neighboring contact area, which showed a rapid dissolution rate compared to other areas of the sample.

  • This paper presents a high gain and high harmonic rejection low-noise amplifier (LNA) for software-defined radio receiver. This LNA exploits the high quality factor (Q) series resonance technique. High Q series resonance can amplify the in-band signal voltage and attenuate the out-band signals. This is achieved by a source impedance transformation. This technique does not consume power and can easily support multiband operation. The chip is fabricated in a $0.13-{\mu}m$ CMOS. It supports four bands (640, 710, 830, and 1,070MHz). The measured forward gain ($S_{21}$) is between 12.1 and 17.4 dB and the noise figure is between 2.7 and 3.3 dB. The IIP3 measures between -5.7 and -10.8 dBm, and the third harmonic rejection ratios are more than 30 dB. The LNA consumes 9.6 mW from a 1.2-V supply.

  • In order to further reduce the cost without reducing the corrosion resistance, a high-manganese austenitic alloy for sink roll or stabilizer roll in continuous hot-dip coating lines was developed. A systematic study of corrosion behavior of the high-manganese austenitic alloy in pure zinc bath at $490^{\circ}C$ was carried out. The results shows that, the high-manganese austenitic alloy shows better corrosion resistance than 316L steel. The corrosion rate of the high-manganese austenitic alloy in pure zinc bath is calculated to be approximately $6.42{\times}10^{-4}g{\cdot}cm^{-2}{\cdot}h^{-1}$, while the 316L is $1.54{\times}10^{-3}g{\cdot}cm^{-2}{\cdot}h^{-1}$. The high-manganese austenitic alloy forms a three-phase intermetallic compound layer morphology containing ${\Gamma$}, ${\delta}$ and ${\zeta}$ phases, while the 316L is almost ${\zeta}$ phase. The ${\Gamma}$ and ${\delta}$ phases of the high-manganese austenitic alloy contain about 8.5 wt% Cr, the existence of Cr improve the stabilization of phases, which slow down the reaction of Fe and Zn, improve the corrosion resistance of the high-manganese austenitic alloy. So substitute the nickel with the manganese to manufacture the high-manganese austenitic alloy of low cost is feasible.

  • Objective: This paper analyzes the changes on stride parameters, joint angles, and trajectories of the body parts due to high heels during walking and explains the causal relationship between the changes and high heels. Background: This study aims to indicate the comprehensive gait changes by high heels on the whole body for women wearing high heels and researchers interested in high-heeled walking. Method: The experiment was designed in which two different shoe heel heights were used for walking (1cm, 9.8cm), and twelve women participated in the test. In the experiment, 35 points on the body were tracked to extract the stride parameters, joint angles, and trajectories of the body parts. Results: Double support time increased, but stride length decreased in high-heeled walking. The knee inflexed more at stance phase and the spine rotation became more severe. The trajectories of the pelvis, the trunk and the head presented outstanding fluctuations in the vertical direction. Conclusion: The double support time and the spine rotation were changed to compensate instability by high heels. Reduced range of motion of the ankle joint influenced on the stride length, the knee flexion, and fluctuations of the body parts. Application: This study can provide an insight of the gait changes by high heels through the entire body.

  • The plucking season of green tea leaves is one of the important parameters that decide their metabolic diversity, quality, and prices. The effects of plucking sghlwleasons on green tea metabolites were investigated through metabolite profiling by $^1H$ NMR spectroscopy. The orthogonal projection on latent structure-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) showed clear discriminations of green teas by three different grades depending on plucking seasons: Ujeon, Sejak, and Jungjak. These results suggested that the nine peak groups could be used for diagnostics for identification of high quality Ujeon grade of green tea.

  • In this paper, we consider a discrete ratio-dependent predator-prey system with harvesting effect. In order to investigate dynamical behaviors of this system, first we find out all fixed points of the system and then classify their stabilities by using their Jacobian matrices and local stability method. Next, we display some numerical examples to substantiate theoretical results and finally, we show numerically, by means of a bifurcation diagram, that various dynamical behaviors including cycles, periodic doubling bifurcation and chaotic bands can be existed.
