  • This study aims to understand haiku phenomena from the viewpoint of communication, which emerges from reciprocal relationships among haiku poets, haiku societies, media on haiku, and other establishments relating to haiku. Such an analytic point of view, which tries to consider both the operation of each autonomous agent and that of the whole system consisted by the agents, is included in the realm of second-order cybernetics. The operation of a system cannot be reduced completely to a system's individual components, which is why such a viewpoint is required. Fundamental informatics, which is employed as a theoretical framework, and two haiku movements, which include shin keiko haiku ("new-trend" haiku) and dento ha haiku (Hototogisu-school haiku), forming an important part of modern haiku history, are the focus of this study. As a result, modern haiku history is considered to be an evolution of a haiku system, whose main incentive is an awareness of the production mechanism of haiku communication occurring through second-order observations in the system. This study also illuminates how haiku poets, haiku societies, and media covereage of haiku play roles in the evolution of the haiku system.

  • Previously, we have reported expressed sequence tags (ESTs) analysis on the land snail, Nesiohelix samarangae (Ns). Of these ESTs, we have identified four partial fragments of N. samarangae cytochrome oxydase I (NsCO-I) gene which lead to obtain an 852 bp partial cDNA. Since NsCO-I is one of the best-known molecular phylogenetic markers, we have attempted to conduct comparative in silico analysis by using the NsCO-I gene. The combined results from BLAST analyses, multiple sequence alignment and molecular phylogenetic study of NsCO-I cDNA indicate that N. samarangae has similarity to three land snails such as Elona quimperiana, Euhadra herklotsi and Euhadra idzumonis.

  • Fed-batch cultures of Enterococcus faecalis RKY1 were performed to maximize the L(+)-Iactic acid concentration in the bioreactor. The highest lactic acid concentration was obtained at around 225 g/L by intermittent feeding the concentrated glucose media containing 500 g/L of glucose and 15 g/L (or 75 g/L) of yeast extract. However, in all fed-batch cultures, volumetric productivities of lactic acid gradually decreased due to the inhibitory effect of lactic acid produced during the fermentation. The highest value of lactic acid concentration obtained in this work corresponded to around 1.5-fold increase compared with conventional batch fermentation.

  • Objective: This case report describes orthodontic treatment of contracted mandibular arch using a trombone appliance. Methods: A 14-year-old girl with Class II division 2 malocclusion, retroclined maxillary incisors, and buccally displaced maxillary canines required dental expansion in 3 spatial directions to correct the contracted maxillary and mandibular arches. In the initial phase of treatment, the maxillary arch was expanded and distalized using a quad-helix appliance and cervical headgear. Following the expansion and leveling of the maxillary arch, a trombone appliance was used to expand the mandibular arch. On correction of the mandibular arch and provision of sufficient space to level the mandibular teeth, fixed orthodontic treatment phase was initiated. Results: A trombone appliance proved effective in correcting the contracted mandibular arch. Because of labiolingual and transversal expansion, the mandibular dental arch perimeter was increased by 7.4 mm; the misalignment of the mandibular teeth was corrected successfully. Conclusions: A trombone appliance may serve as an appropriate clinical alternative for treating moderate mandibular arch crowding caused by the contraction of the dental arch.

  • The chromosomes of all the world are the same in all 24 pairs, but the key, skin color and appearance are different. Also, it is the resistance of adult disease, diabetes, cancer. In 1953, Watson, Crick of Cambridge University experimentally discovered a DNA double helix structure, and in 1962, They laureates the Nobel Prize. In 1964, Temin, University of Wisconsin, USA, experimentally identified the ability to copy gene information from RNA to DNA and received the Nobel Prize in 1975. In this paper, we analyzed 24 pairs of DNA chromosomes using mathematical matrices based on the combination order sequence of four groups, and designed the Taegeuk pattern genetic code for the first time in the world. In the case of normal persons, the middle Yin-Yang taegeuk is designed as a block circulant Jacket matrix in DNA, and the left-right and upper-lower pairs of east-west and north-south rulings are designed as pair complementary matrices. If (C U: A G) chromosomes are unbalanced, that is, people with disease or inheritance become squashed squirming patterns. In 2017, Professor Michel Young was awarded a Nobel by presenting a biological clock and experimentally explained the bio-imbalance through a yellow fruit fly experiment. This study proved mathematical matrices for balanced and unbalanced RNA.

  • CRP (cyclic AMP receptor protein) regulate transcription of catabolite-sensitive genes in Escherichia coli. Wild-type and mutant CRP (S83G and S128A) proteins were used to measure the thermal stability and the temperature-dependent structural change by proteolytic digestion, UV spectrophotometer and CD spectrapolarimeter. The result indicated that wild-type CRP was more thermally stable than the mutant CRPs in the presence of cAMP. At a low temperature, wild-type CRP with cAMP was more sensitive to subtilisin than the mutant CRPs. At a high temperature, there was no difference of sensitivity to subtilisin among wild-type, S83G and S128A CRPs. CD spectra suggested that the secondary structure of CRP was destroyed partially at a high temperature.

  • Artificial roughness as a means of improving heat transfer gains more interest, especially for application to various heat exchanger. This study present experimental information for single-phase free and force convection heat transfer in a circular tube containing a internal spiral ribs. To examine the effect of inclined angle of tube, it was varied from 0 deg to 90 deg (0.deg., 22.5.deg., 45.deg., 90.deg.) with horizontal. Length of tube is 1.6m, and width, height and helix angle of rib are 4.2mm, 1.5mm, and 60 deg respectively. Water was used as a working fluid and test piece was heated with a constant heat flux by electric heater. Experiments have been performed with the range of modified Grashof number from 2 * 10$^{6}$ to 15 * 10$^{6}$ for free convection and with the range of Reynolds number from 3,000 to 40,000 for forced convection. Since the increase in heat transfer coefficients influence directly to the friction coefficient of the tube, the changes of the friction factors are also presented for several different cases considered in this investigation.

  • A female English bulldog was gave birth two neonates by cesarean section on the sixty one days after mating, but both neonates were died soon after birth. The bodies of neonates were diagnosed using radiography, ultrasonography, computed tomography and necropsy immediately after death. Both neonates had caudal regression syndrome, butterfly vertebra, hydrocephalus, umbilical hernia, cleft palate and bow-legged hind-limb. At necropsy, neonates had mild fetal anasarca, cleft lip and the skull was remained non-union. At thoracic cavity, only three ribs and thoracic spines were existed and patent ductus arteriosus was found. At abnormal cavity, the renal ectopia was found with abnormal morphology. In the present case, those English bulldog neonates with multiple congenital malformation syndromes seriously suffered vertebral column anomalies and that may induced by neural tube defects in during embryonic period. To prevent congenital malformation occurring in English bulldog, further in depth studies are needed for the breed specific genetic diversity and for the reason of behind genetic abnormality in these breed.

  • [ ${\beta}ig-h3$ ] is an extracellular matrix protein that mediates cell adhesion through interaction with integrins. The 18 residue YH motifs within each fas-1 domain are known to be responsible for the interaction with the ${\alpha}_v{\beta}_5$ integrin, and the synthetic YH motif peptides are known to inhibit endothelial tube formation and reduces the number of blood vessels, and so expected to be an effective inhibitor of angiogenesis. In this study, we solved the 3D structure of the 18 residue YH motif peptide (EALRDLLNNHILKSAMCA; D2 peptide) within the second fas-1 domain of ${\beta}ig-h3$ using NMR. The Peptide has ${\alpha}-helix$ structure at the C terminal region but the N terminal region is flexible. The present structural information may be helpful for developing more effective peptide drug candidate for the treatment of diseases dependent on angiogenesis.

  • 9Pbw2 is a 9-mer analog of protaetiamycine derived from the larvae of the beetle Protaetia brevitarsis. Previously, we designed four 9-mer peptide analogues to optimize the balance between the hydrophobicity and cationicity of the peptides and to increase bacterial cell selectivity. Among them, 9Pbw2 has high antibacterial activity without cytotoxicity. The results obtained in previous study suggest that the bactericidal action of 9Pbw2 may be attributed to the inhibition of the functions of intracellular components after penetration of the bacterial cell membrane. In order to understand structure-activity relationships, we determined the three-dimensional structure of 9Pbw2 in 200 mM DPC micelle by NMR spectroscopy. 9Pbw2 has one hydrophobic turn helix from $Trp^3$ to $Arg^8$ and positively charged residues at the N- and C-terminus. This result suggested that positively charged residues from position at the C-terminus in 9Pbw2 may be important for the primary binding to the negatively charged phospholipid head groups in bacterial cell membranes and hydrophobic residues in the middle portion face toward the acyl chains of the hydrophobic lipid in the bacterial cell membrane.
