  • The power control of the existing heating element has been using the On-Off control, phase control, and PWM control. In case of controlling power PTC heating element developed recently with the existing method, the temperature is unable to be precisely controlled or the harmful electromagnetic wave to human body is generated. In this paper, We suggest the power control of PTC heating cable using variable AC Cycles. This regards the AC cycle of N as the unit of the power control. It determines On-Off for each cycle. It is the AC power control method in which it arranges the on-cycle in N cycles in the random and it supplies the current continuously. At this time. the minimal electric power amount becomes 1/N. The maximum current amount becomes 1 and sets up the number of on cycles according to the set value and can control the electric power with the step of N consistently. In the PTC heating system, we show that proposed power control method is superior in the EMI and temperature control property using MATLAB simulation, experiments and measurements.

  • In this study the thermal performance and economic analysis program of solar heating system for district heating was developed. This program, named SOLAN-DHS and based on TRNSYS, consisted of four modules like as user's interface for system input/output, library, and utilities and a calculating engine. SOLAN-DHS simplifies user's input data through the database of most system engineering data including weather data of 17 areas in Korea. Five different types of solar systems which can be applicable to district heating system were presented in this program. Due to the user-friendly layout, all design parameters can be changed quickly and easily for the influence on system efficiency. The reliability of SOLAN-DHS was finally verified by the experiments.

  • For the high quality and low cost agricultural crops in greenhouse cultivation, it is necessary to use natural energy as much as possible. In order to reduce the fossil fuel consumption and maximize the solar energy utilization in greenhouse heating, a latent heat storage material was developed as a relatively highly concentrative solar energy storage medium. And a solar energy-latent heat storage system was designed and constructed. The experimental research on greenhouse heating effect of the system was performed.

  • Recently, the quick heating performance is an important issue in the car because engine power becomes so high. So car makers have been adapted the additional heating devices as like PTC(Positive Temperature Coefficient) heater. And the quick cooling performance is also important issue because its result is used in the IQS(Initial Quality Study). In this paper, control of the HVAC(Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) intake door has been studied for the quick heating and cooling performance. Heating performance is improved $4.0^{\circ}C$ at $-20^{\circ}C$ ambient temperature after 20 minutes. And cooling performance is improved $1.5^{\circ}C$ at $35^{\circ}C$ ambient temperature after 10 minutes. In addition, intake door control system brings on the cost reduction because the flab door can be eliminated. This intake door control system has been adapted to the new developing cars.

  • This study describes thermal performance of heating and cooling demonstration system using ETSC(Evacuated tubular solar collector) installed at Seo-gu art center of Kwangju. For demonstration study, a reading room with about $350m^2$ was heated and cooled using that system. The demonstration system was consisted of ETSCs, storage tank, hot water supply tank, subsidiary boiler, and subsidiary tank. From January to March in 2006, demonstration test were performed with 4 control mode to find the optimum control condition for solar thermal system. After experiments and analysis, this study found that solar thermal system of control mode IV was corresponded to 78% for the hot water supply and 49% for space heating.

  • Ion cyclotron range of frequency (ICRF) heating system is an important auxiliary heating method in the experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST). In EAST, several megawatts of power are transmitted with coaxial transmission lines and coupled to the plasma. For the long pulse and high power operation of the ICRF waves heating system, it is very important to effectively control the power and initial phase of the ICRF signals. In this paper, a power and phase feedback control system is described based on field programmable gate array (FPGA) devices, which can realize complicated algorithms with the advantages of fast running and high reliability. The transmitted power and antenna phase are measured by a power and phase detector and digitized. The power and phase feedback control algorithms is designed to achieve the target power and antenna phase. The power feedback control system was tested on a dummy load and during plasma experiments. Test results confirm that the feedback control system can precisely control ICRF power and antenna phase and is robust during plasma variations.

  • Steel in a continuous reheat furnace is heated to higher temperature to be treated in the rolling steel process. Due to this reason the continuous reheat furnace system requires an optimal control system to adjust the temperature inside the furnace. Level 2 control systems for continuous reheat furnaces generate automatic heating set points for the level 1 system of the furnace based on the mathematical thermal model which can give a good estimation of steel heating inside the furnace and is used to adjust heating requirements to optimize furnace combustion. For the current study the analytic methodology based on the design procedure from the systems engineering to develop new level 2 control system of a continuous reheat furnace was proposed. The system analysis and the requirements of the level 2 control system were derived using the unified modeling language (UML) 2.0, and the design of database and the graphic user interface (GUI) for the level 2 control system were conducted.
