  • This study deals with the fabrication and thermal characterization of planar heating elements attached to the backside of the reflector used in the electrodeless lamp of a freezer. We tried to solve the problem of the local heat generation of the linear heating element that occurs about 50℃. The homogeneous dispersion and manufacturing excellence of the planar heating element produced were confirmed through SEM and EDS. In addition, the test specimens was prepared according to the change in the ratio of carbon fiber to the basis weight of the planar heating element, and a sample having a basis weight of 50g/㎡ having a content ratio of carbon fiber of 70% was selected. That sample showed low surface resistance of 4.3Ω/sq and high temperature of about 81℃ at 6V. Durability was confirmed by performing repeated bending evaluation of 3000 cycles for the sample. Large area test specimens were prepared to be applied to the actual reflector, insulated by EVA film and analyzed for their thermal characteristics. From 13V application, the temperature of the linear heating element was higher than 50℃ and the average temperature of 68℃ was maximum at 18V.

  • Transparent conducting oxide (TCO) films are widely used as transparent conducting thin film material for application in various fields such as solar cells, optoelectronic devices, heat mirrors and gas sensors, etc. Recently the increased utilization of many transparent electrodes has accelerated the development of inexpensive TCO materials. Indium tin oxide (ITO) film is well-known for TCO materials because of its low resistivity, but there is disadvantage that it is too expensive. ZnO film is cheaper than ITO but it shows thermally poor stability. On the contrary, antimony-doped tin oxide films (ATO) are more stable than TCO films such as Al-doped zinc oxide (AZO) and ITO. Moreover, SnO2 film shows the best thermal and chemical stability, low cost and mechanical durability except the poor conductivity. However, annealing is proved to improve the conductivity of ATO film. Therefore, in this work, antimony (6 wt%) doped tin oxide films to improve the conductivity were deposited on 7059 corning glass by RF magnetron sputtering method for the application to transparent electrodes. In general, of all TCO films, glass is the most commonly selected substrate. However, for future development in flexible devices, glass is limited by its intrinsic inflexibility. In this study, we report the growth and properties of antimony doped tin oxide (ATO) films deposited on PES flexible substrate by using RF magnetron sputtering. The optimization process was performed varying the sputtering parameters, such as RF power and working pressure, and parameter effect on the structural, electrical and optical properties of the ATO films were investigated.

  • Recently, the development and field applications of Ternary Blended Cement(TBC), where blast furnace slag and fly ash are recycled in Ordinary Portland Cement(OPC) in order to obtain improvements in the durability and heat of hydration reduction performance in large scale civil structures, have been increasing. Also, there are continuing efforts by construction companies to reduce the construction time with the aim of reducing construction costs. Therefore, there is a need to improve the performance of TBC, which has a relatively slow early strength development. In order to improve the early strength of TBC mortar, the compressive strength, SO3 content, and SEM analysis was determined in this study on mortar with the fineness and content of blast furnace slag and anhydrite regulated. As a result, to secure the early strength of TBC mortar, using blast furnace slag with a fineness of approximately $4,200cm^2/g$, adding 3.5% anhydrite with a fineness of approximately $10,000cm^2/g$, and managing the $SO_3$ content to roughly 3.72% was found to provide the most outstanding early strength properties.

  • The precaution to spray with agricultural chemicals is very important, in particular personal protective equipment against pesticide in order to protect farmers# pesticide poisoning. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has proclaimed the announcement of pesticide proof clothing(PPC) in 1983, and revised it in 1987. The announcement had many performance items to achieve the high-quality protective clothing for pesticide including weight, density, force strength, dimensional change(in washing and drying), fastness(dyeing, washing, sweating and rubbing) and water resistance of clothes. Announcement of the PPC has better durability and penetration resistance function than former days, but the plenty of farmers didn#t wear it because of the intolerable heat. To increase wearing rates, the pesticide proof clothing must be estimated the water-vapour resistance. From the results, the developed PPC with polyester treated water-repellent showed the more excellent comfort than an existing PPC with nylon coated polyurethane. But the developed PPC appeared to have the low water-vapour resistance. Therefore, it is suggested that the property of pesticide penetration must be evaluated through the field test in the future study.

  • This paper describes test result of the Supersonic Wing Structure and the utility of thermal test equipment, which is possible to heat rapidly and continuously above $1,000^{\circ}C$, the durability and reliability of which are improved compared with the existing equipment. Through the test, we could predict the amount of strength reduction of the wing due to aerodynamic heating, caused by exposure of high temperature. Recently the aerodynamic heating temperature of the supersonic flying object is rapidly increased. It is possible to carry out the High Temperature Strength Test on the hypersonic speed flying object with the newly designed thermal test equipment. Because of that, we can upgrade the High Temperature Strength Structure Test technique and test reliability.

  • Carbon nanotube(CNT) is one of the promising construction materials to produce concrete with high strength and durability by adding in the concrete mixtures from various researches. Also, its superior heat conductivity can be one of the options to develop self-heating concrete. In this research, the fundamental study was conducted to investigate mechanical properties and microstructures of cement pastes and mortars by strength tests and porosity measurement with several CNT additions, which were 0 wt%, 0.115 wt%, 0.23 wt% and 0.46 wt% of CNT-cement ratio. Compressive and flexural strength test were conducted at 3, 7 and 28 days, and pore characteristics were investigated by mercury intrusion porosimetry. SEM-EDS and Thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) were conducted to prove the hydration product types and CNT dispersion in the cement matrix. As a result, even though high amount of CNT additions were caused worse performance, mixtures with 0.115 wt% of CNTs developed the similar performance with plain mixture.

  • Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) has been used as a general-purpose polymer because of its lower cost, good durability and mechanical properties compared to other materials. However, PVC is vulnerable to heat deformation and generates a toxic gas like hydrogen chloride. Therefore, it is important to delay or prevent the flame retardancy and thermal degradation of the PVC during the processing. It was reported that aluminum trihydroxide (ATH) improved flame retardancy as well as smoke inhibition of the virgin polymer. In this study, PVC composites by addition of ATH were compounded in a modular intermeshing co-rotating twin screw extruder. The PVC composites with different concentrations of ATH (0~5 phr) were analyzed. Flame retardancy of the PVC composite significantly increased depending on the ATH concentration. LOI of the composite also increased with the concentration of ATH. There were no significant differences for the thermal properties of the PVC composites with ATH.

  • Regarding greenhouse gas reduction, BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaics) is an important technology that can generate its own power in urban buildings based on clean energy resources. In particular, the perovskite material is attracting attention as a BIPV solar cell because it can have various colors and transparency. However, it is not easy to increase both transparency and efficiency factors because solar cell transparency and efficiency are inversely related to each other. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a semi-transparent perovskite solar cell structure that can improve both transparency and efficiency, and evaluate the stability according to international standard.

  • Tribaloy 800 (T800) powder is coated on the Inconel 718 substrate by the optimal High Velocity Oxy-Fuel (HVOF) thermal spray coating process developed by this laboratory. For the study of the possibility of replacing of the widely used classical chrome plating, friction, wear properties and sliding wear mechanism of coatings are investigated using reciprocating sliding tester both at room and at an elevated temperature of $1000^{\circ}F\;(538^{\circ}C). Both at room temperature and at $538^{\circ}C$, friction coefficients and wear debris of coatings are drastically reduced compared to those of non-coated surface of Inconel 718 substrate. Friction coefficients and wear traces of both coated and non-coated surfaces are drastically reduced at higher temperature of $538^{\circ}C$ compared with those at room temperature. At high temperature, the brittle oxides such as $CoO,\;Co_3O_4,\;MoO_2,\;MoO_3$ are formed rapidly on the sliding surfaces, and the brittle oxide phases are easily attrited by reciprocating slides at high temperature through complicated mixed wear mechanisms. The sliding surfaces are worn by the mixed mechanisms such as oxidative wear, abrasion, slurry erosion. The brittle oxide particles and melts and partial-melts play roles as solid and liquid lubricant reducing friction coefficient and wear. These show that the coating is highly recommendable for the durability improvement coating on the surfaces vulnerable to frictional heat and wear.
