Purpose: This study aimed to identify the actor and partner effects of self-efficacy, marital adjustment, and social support on the health promoting behavior of Korean pregnant couples. Methods: Participants were 132 couples who met the eligibility criteria. Data were collected from June to November, 2016 at a community health center. The Actor-Partner Interdependence Model was used for analyzing the actor and partner effects of self-efficacy, marital adjustment, and social support on health promoting behavior. Results: The fitness indices for the model were GFI=0.90, NFI=0.92, CFI=0.91, TLI=0.90, and RMSEA=0.04, which satisfied the criteria. Self-efficacy had actor and partner effect on health promoting behavior of wives, but had only actor effect of on health promoting behavior of husbands. Marital adjustment showed actor and partner effect on the health promoting behavior of pregnant couples. Social support only had an actor effect on the health promoting behavior of wives. And, marital adjustment and social support had a mutual effect. Conclusion: This study indicates that the partner involvement is needed to develop health promotion programs for pregnant couples.
The objectives of this study are first to develop the index of school health promoting behaviors, two, to measure those, third, to analysis the relative importance of factors that effect on school health promoting behaviors. School health promotion indexes were composed of 60 components of six areas which modify the element of health promoting schools are developed by world health organization. The survey data were collected by questionnaires from June to September in 1998. The number of subjects was 294 school nurses. The SAS-PC program was used for the statistical analysis. The major results were as follows: 1. The six areas of school health promoting behaviors are: school health politics (20 components), the school physical environment (17 component), the school social environment (7 component), community relationships (6 component), personal health skills (7 component) and health services (3 component). 2. The mean of total school health promotion indexes was highest at elementary school as 3.46. The order of area was health services, the school physical environment, school health politics, the school social environment, personal health skills, community relationships. 3. The regression model used in this analysis presented significant relationships between school health promoting behaviors and independent variables. The important variable affecting the area of school physical environment was education level of school nurses. The important variable affecting the area of the school social environment and personal health services were the location of school, credential education program. Age or career also were significant variables affect the community relationships and health services. In summary, The health promoting behavior of elementary school was higher than other school. It is mean that have to perform active promoting behavior at middle school and high school. Health service level was highest among areas of school health promoting behaviors. It is mean also that school nurse teachers is interested in activity for other areas to improve of school health. Furthermore, it is necessary to develop the specific program for school health promoting behavior.
This descriptive correlational study was conducted to identify the variables related to health promoting lifestyle of girls in High school students. 156 high school students and 88 vocational high school students who lives in Taegu city were selected by a convenience sampling method. The data were collected by self-reported questionnaires from August 24 to September 4. 1998. Pender and others' Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile. Shere et al's. Self-Efficacy scale. Wallston et al.' s Internal Health Locus of Control scale. Wares' Health self rating scale and Cohen & Hoberman's Social support scale were used. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient. t-test. MANOVA. ANOVA. Tukey verification and Stepwise multiple regression with SAS progrom. The results of this study were as follows : 1. The average score of health promoting lifestyle performance was 2.34(SD=.36)points by the 4 point scale. 2. The combination of self-efficacy. internal health locus of control. mather's educational level and type of school explained $41.31\%$ of the variance of health promoting lifestyle. 3. Health promoting lifestyle showed significant positive correlations with self efficacy(r=.5173. p=.001), perceived health status(r=.254, p=.001) and internal health locus of control(r=.321. p=.001). On the basis of the above findings, self-efficacy in cognitive factors. and social support in modifying factors were identified as the variables which explained the most part of the Pender's health-promotion model. Nursing strategies enhancing self-efficacy which has the most significant effect on health promoting lifestyle should be developed. Further research is required to find out the factors influencing health pormoting lifestyle of high school students.
This study was undertaken in order to examine the relationship of self-efficacy, control, perceived health status. self-esteem, social support, and demographic characteristics to health promoting lifestyle of college students, and to determine factors affecting health promoting lifestyle of college students. The subjects were 92 students of one university in Taejon. The instruments used for this study were a survey of general characteristics, health promoting lifestyle(44 items), self-efficacy (28 items), self-esteem(10 items). control(8 items), perceived heath status(1 item), and social support(12 items). Analysis of data was done by use of mean, percentage, t-test. ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise regression with SAS program. The results of this study are as follows. 1) The average item score for the health promoting lifestyles was low at 2.30. In the sub-categories, the highest degree of performance was interpersonal support(2.90), and the lowest degree was exercise(1.67). 2) Male students showed a significant higher score in exercise subscale than female students. Students who had more income had higher scores in self actualization subscale. Students who's family had experienced severe disease had higher scores in health responsibility and interpersonal support subscale. Students who had experienced exercise had higher scores in total health promoting lifestyle, exercise, interpersonal support, and stress management subscale. 3) Significant correlation between perceived health status and self-efficacy, perceived health status and self-esteem, control and self-efficacy, control and self-esteem, control and social support, self-esteem and self-efficacy was found. 4) Self-efficacy and control revealed significant correlations with total health promoting lifestyle and all subscales of health promoting lifestyle except self actualization, A significant correlation between perceived health status and self actualization subscale was found. Self-esteem revealed significant correlations only with self actualization and interpersonal support subscale. 5) Significant correlations were found between most of the subscales of total health promoting lifestyle. 6) Self-efficacy was the highest factor predicting health promoting lifestyles of college students (30.55%). Self-efficacy and control accounted for 36.55% in health promoting lifestyle of college students.
Purpose: This study was designed to assess the degree of psychological well-being, perceived health status, and health promoting behavior of clinical nurses, and to identify correlations between variables. Methods: Participants were 194 nurses working at S hospital, Seoul and data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, ANOVA, Duncan's test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regressions. Results: Mean scores were 3.45 (5 point scale) for psychological well-being, 2.82(4 point scale) for perceived health status, and 2.30(4 point scale) for health promoting behavior. Psychological well-being correlated positively with perceived health status (r=.34, p<.001). Perceived health status showed a positive correlation with health promoting behavior (r=.30, p<.001). There was a positive correlation between psychological well-being and health promoting behavior (r=.52, p<.001). Personal growth(t=2.85, p=.005), purpose in life (t=2.30, p=.023) among subscales of psychological well-being, and perceived health status (t=2.13, p=.034) had a significant influence on health promoting behavior. These combinations explained 32.1% of health promoting behavior (F=12.58, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest strategies to improve health promoting behavior by enhancing psychological well-being of nurses. Furthermore, a study to identify the effects of developed and applied psychological well-being promotion program should be conducted.
Purpose: This study is to identify the health promoting behaviors, health belief, and self-efficacy of visiting nurses working for the Health Visiting Project in Seoul and to determine the predictors of influencing health promoting behaviors. Methods: Data were collected from an online survey of 496 visiting nurses form 25 districts in Seoul. Using SPSS ver. 24, the study performed descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlations, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The mean scores for health promoting behaviors and self-efficacy were slightly higher than that of the median, whereas health belief showed in the median. The factors influencing health promoting behavior were perceived barriers, perceived sensitivity, self-efficacy, and age. These variables explained 36.0% of health promoting behaviors(F=60.62, p<.05). Conclusion: To prevent illness and to promote the health of the population, the visiting nurse mainly performs health screening, health education and counseling. To fulfill these responsibilities, the visiting nurse should be healthy and perform health promoting behaviors well, effectively serving as a model for their clients. Most of the visiting nurses were middle-aged, thus, it is necessary to strengthen health promotion activities that manage physical and psychological health at the individual level.
Purpose: In Korea, as the number of hypertensive worker grows, identifying the level of health promoting life style practice and related factors in hypertensive workers is becoming more and more important. Method: The subjects of this study were 195 hypertensive male workers in Korea. The data was collected during 3 months ranging from August 2003 to October 2003. The data was analyzed by descriptive statistics. t-test, ANOVA. Pearson's correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression by SAS 8.1 program. Results: It was found that there were significant differences between age, religion, medication, perceived health status, perceived benefits, internal health locus of control, powerful other health locus of control and health promoting life style practice. The most significant factor affecting the health promoting life style practice was internal health locus of control. The combination of internal health locus of control, specific self-efficacy, powerful other health locus of control, general self-efficacy accounted for 51.0% of the health promoting life style practice. Conclusion: The level of health promoting life style practice was very low, so it is urgent to manage and care for hypertensive male workers continuously and systemically with occupational health nurses. Based on the above results, cognitive perceptual characteristics should be considered when developing health education programs for hypertensive workers.
Purpose: In order to provide basic information for the development of nursing programs, health promoting behavior of students rewriting college entrance examinations was examined and factors related to health promotion were identified. Method: Data were collected by questionnaire from 804 examines in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province and were analyzed using the SAS program with t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test and Pearson correlation coefficients. Result: The mean score for health promoting behavior was 2.50. The highest score for the sub-areas was harmonious relationships and the lowest was, professional health maintenance. There were significant differences in health promoting behavior according to the following general characteristics; religion, frequency of rewriting college entrance examination, economic burden, parents' education level, grade, satisfaction with parents, friends and rewriting of college entrance examinations, parents' health concernsand knowledge of health, need for health education, and health condition and chronic disease over the past year. Correlations between health promoting behavior and family support and self-esteem were positive. The variables that influenced health promoting behavior were family support ($24.5\%$), self-esteem ($11.3\%$), anxiety ($2.6\%$), and stress of studying ($0.5\%$), explaining $38.9\%$ of the total variance. Conclusion: These results will help to develop a nursing program that enhances health promoting behavior of students rewriting college entrance examinations.
Objective: The purpose of this study were to: (1) describe the individual characteristics, perceived health status, body image, and health promoting behaviors of staff nurses working in a metropolitan hospital and (2) determine the relationship of perceived health status, body image, and health promoting behaviors. Methods: Data were collected from 311 staff nurses working at one of university affiliated hospitals using a self-administered questionnaire for perceived health status(SF 36 V2), body image(BAQ), and health promoting behaviors (HPLP-II) and using the report of year 2002 employee physical check-up results for health related characteristics. Results: Most of nurses were within the normal range of BMI, total cholesterol, and liver enzymes but 42.2% had systolic BP above 120mmHg and 37.3% hemoglobin below 12g/dL. Although 96.4% of BMI score indicated 'underweight' or 'normal', 'feeling fat' showed the highest. Among health promoting behaviors the most frequently reported one was spiritual growth and the least one was engagement in physical activity. In the correlational analysis, health promoting behaviors had the positive relationships with perceived health status, vitality, mental health, attractiveness, strength and fitness (p=.000 - .004). Conclusion: These findings provide information that is relevant in designing interventions to enhance health promoting behaviors among nurses working in a hospital.
This study was conducted to compare the practice of health promoting behaviors between hospital workers and government officers. The subjects for this study were consisted of 344 hospital workers in four university hospitals and 340 government officers in four district offices in the Kyong-in area. Data were collected by using constructed questionnaires from January to February in 1997 and analyzed by Chi-square test, t-test. ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression. The results were as follows : 1. There was no significant difference between hospital workers and government officers in practice of health promoting behaviors as a whole. but among five domains of the health promoting behaviors, hospital workers was significantly higher than that of government officer in the domain of health responsibility, while they were significantly lower than those of government officer in the domain of exercise & nutrition and stress management. The mean score of health promoting behavior for hospital workers and government officer were 2.40, and 2.47, respectively. The health promoting behavior in relation to the characteristics of the hospital workers varied significantly according to sex and age. The domain of self-actualization ranked highest in health promoting behaviors of hospital workers, interpersonal support came next. stress management, health responsibility and exercise & nutrition followed them. While those of government officers. the domain of self-actualization ranked highest. interpersonal support came next, stress management, exercise & nutrition and health responsibility followed them. 2. The combination of self-esteem, powerful others health locus of control. health perception. self-efficacy. internal health locus of control. age and marital status explained $45.7\%$ of variance of likelihood to engage in health promoting behavior of hospital workers. And the combination of self-esteem. powerful others health locus of control. health perception. self-efficacy. internal health locus of control. sex and marital status explained $48.2\%$ of variance of likelihood to engage in health promoting behavior of government officers.
