The Study on The Professional Self-Concept, Ego-Resilience, Clinical Competence of Nursing Students (간호학생의 전문직 자아개념과 자아탄력성 및 임상수행능력에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose. The purpose of this study is to investigate how professional self-concept and ego-resilience of nursing students affect their clinical competence. Methods. This study conducted a structured-questionnaire survey with 143 nursing students to look into their professional self-concept, ego-resilience and clinical competence. Results. According to the study result, professional self-concept scored 2.85 on average out of 4 points, ego-resilience 3.61 on average, and clinical competence 3.48 on average. It was found that clinical competence had significantly positive correlations with professional self-concept (r=.58, p<.01) and ego-resilience (r=.44, p<.01). According to regression analysis, the factors affecting clinical competence were professional self-concept, ego-resilience, and academic grades in order, and explanatory power was 39.5%. Conclusions. Given the above results, in order to improve clinical competence of nursing students, nursing educational institutes need to find an educational plan which can contribute to increasing professional self-concept, ego-resilience, and academic grades.

Factors Influencing Professional Self-Concept among Nursing Students (간호대학생의 전문직 자아개념 영향 요인)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing professional self-concept among nursing students. A descriptive survey design was used with convenience sample of 250 nursing students studying in 1 nursing college. The data were obtained from November 17 to 30, 2012 by self-reported questionnaire. The collected date were analyzed using SPSS WIN 18.0 program. The mean score for professional self-concept, self-esteem and, self-efficacy were at the intermediate level, with the value of 3.27, 3.14 and 3.78. There were moderate positive correlation between the professional self-concept and self-esteem(r=0.580, p<.001), the professional self-concept and self-efficacy (r=0.645, p<.001) and there were moderate positive correlation between self-esteem and self-efficacy(r=0.611, p<.001). The influencing factors in professional self-concept of nursing students were self esteem, self efficacy, and motivation of nursing(Adj $R^2=.479$). In order to encourage nursing college students professional self-concept, the nursing college should make efforts to develop a curriculum and program for improving self-esteem and self-efficacy.

Correlations between Professional Autonomy, Job Satisfaction, and Turnover Intention of Nurses Perceived by Nurses and Physicians: Focus on Medium-sized Hospitals (간호사와 의사가 지각하는 간호사의 전문직 자율성과 직무만족 및 이직의도와의 관계 : 중소병원을 대상으로)

  • Objectives: This study examined the degree of professional autonomy of nurses as perceived by nurses and doctors, as well as the relation between professional autonomy, job satisfaction, and turnover intention of nurses. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted with 292 nurses and 121 physicians working in 10 small- and medium-sized hospitals with located in G Metropolitan City. Results: The difference in the level of nurses' professional autonomy as perceived by nurses and physicians was found to be significantly higher in nurses than in physicians. Professional autonomy and job satisfaction were significantly and positively correlated; professional autonomy and turnover intention were significantly and negatively correlated; and job satisfaction and turnover intention were also significantly and negatively correlated. Conclusions: Various efforts to increase nurses' professional autonomy and the development of effective workforce management programs to prevent turnover should be actively conducted to address the problems of small- and medium-sized hospitals facing a shortage of nurses.

Relationship between clinical practice satisfaction, professional self-concept, and career identity among students of dental laboratory technology (치기공과 학생들의 임상실습 만족도, 전문직 자아개념, 진로정체감과의 관계)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between clinical practice satisfaction, professional self-concept, and career identity among students of dental laboratory technology. Methods: From September 1 to September 15, 2021, data were collected through self-questionnaires completed by 180 students with clinical practice experience. The collected data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 22.0 statistical program. Frequency and percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and linear regression analysis were performed to analyze the data. Results: The average scores for clinical practice satisfaction, professional self-concept, and career identity were 3.17, 3.03, and 2.46, respectively. There were significant correlations between students' clinical practice satisfaction, professional self-concept, and career identity. There were positive correlations between clinical practice satisfaction and professional self-concept and between professional self-concept and career identity. Conclusion: Clinical practice satisfaction was found to play an important role in the formation of a positive professional self-concept as a dental technician. Therefore, a clinical practice program should be developed and implemented that can increase the satisfaction of clinical practice.

The Relationship between Health Education Competency and Satisfaction of Professional Nursing in Nursing Students (간호학생의 보건교육 수행정도와 간호전문직 만족도와의 관계연구)

  • A study was conducted to identify the perceptions about health education competence and satisfaction of nursing profession, and the relationship between health education competency and satisfaction of nursing profession in nursing students. The subjects were 118 nursing students who were third year at a diploma course. The results of this study are as follows : 1) In domain of health education process, the highest level of competency was the need assessment of the individual health education(mean : 3.62) and the lowest level of competency was the evaluation of heath education program(mean : 2.93. 2) In domain of health education method, the level of competency was estimated ordered as counselling and interview (mean : 3.53), health campaign(mean : 3.42), demonstration(mean : 3.30), role play (mean : 3.28), group discussion (mean : 3.25), lecture(mean : 3.10). 3) In domain of health education place, the level of competency was estimated ordered as of patient education while giving individually care(mean : 3.68), at home(mean : 3.67), in the classrom(mean : 3.67), in the community(mean : 3.35), while teaching with group patients at hosital(mean : 3.30). 4) In domain of activities of health educator, the level of competency was ordered as collaborator(mean : 3.59), coordinator(mean : 3.31), material developer(mean 3.14), program evaluator(mean : 3.13), program designer(mean 3.10). 5) Health education competency was found to be significantly related to satisfaction of professional nursing.

The Effects of Organizational Justice on Job Satisfaction, Professional Commitment and Organizational Commitment among Hospital Physicians (조직공정성이 종합병원 의사들의 직무만족, 전문직업몰입 및 조직몰입에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the impacts of distributive and procedural justice on job satisfaction, professional commitment and organizational commitment among hospital physicians. The sample of this study consisted of 185 physicians from 8 general hospitals located in Metropolitan area and Youngnam area in Korea. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires with the response rate of 40.2% and analyzed using hierarchical regression technique. The results of this study showed that procedural justice had a direct impact on job satisfaction, professional commitment and organizational commitment among hospital physicians, whereas distributive justice had no significant impact. The results imply that hospital administrators should take measures to establish procedural justice to increase job satisfaction, professional commitment and organizational commitment among hospital physicians.

The Effect of Air Pollution on Professional Sports in South Korea

  • Purpose: This study sought to explore the effects of air pollution on professional sports in South Korea. Research design, data, and methodology: The dependent variable, the number of attendances, was comprised of 2013-2017 K-league, 2015-2017 KBO, 2014-2017 KBL regular season games, resulting in 1,063, 2,121, 810 individual match-level observations, respectively. With the actual data collected from each place across the country, we created a categorical variable which identify the air quality index divided into four categories by K-eco (i.e., good, moderate, unhealthy, hazardous). To analyze data, ANOVA was employed. Results: First, there was a significant group effect on K-league attendance. Second, there was a significant group effect of KBO attendance. Lastly, there was a significant group effect on KBL attendance. Conclusions: Summary of above results showed that each professional sport leagues' attendance was significantly different depending on the levels of air pollution. Implications were also discussed.   • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to provide comprehensive information of qualification systems of developed countries needed to establish our national system for QI(Quality improvement) specialists. Methods: All articles related to any applicable domestic or foreign countries' laws, operational status, and detailed programs for professional qualification system of QI were reviewed. Result: In the United States, a non-profit organization, Healthcare Quality Certification Commission (HQCC) has set the policies, procedures and standards in the field of health care quality. And qualification system of CPHQ (certified professional in healthcare quality) has been operated in order to authenticate the qualifications in the field of quality management. IBQH(international Board for quality in healthcare), a qualification system of experts in the United Kingdom, was designed to assist the qualification of professionals to improve the quality of healthcare. In addition, Health Research Center of Feinberg School of Medicine in Northwestern University has been operating Master's and doctoral degree programs in the field of the quality of care and patient safety and IHI (institute for healthcare improvement) open school was operating a professional training course related to the quality of care and patient safety. Conclusion: Quantity and complexity of information of the quality of care and patient safety have been increased. For reform of the health care system, a special training course of the expertise and leadership are needed. So far, there is no national professional certification courses in our nation. Therefore essential job skill should be acquired individually. For systematic and effective quality improvement activities, the educational and certification system with professional development model are needed.

The effects of organizational culture and self-leadership on organizational effectiveness in oral health professional (치과의료기관 종사자의 조직문화와 셀프리더십 유형이 조직유효성에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives : This study was to investigate the level of organizational culture and self-leadership on organizational effectiveness and the significant factors influencing organizational effectiveness in oral health professional. Methods : Data were obtained from a cross-sectional survey of 297 oral health professional(mean age=$29.95{\pm}8.10$). Participants in the study were recruited when they attended the dental health form in Gwangju. Organizational culture was classified into four factors: relation-oriented, innovation-oriented, hierarchy-oriented, task-oriented culture. Self-readership consisted of five factors: rehearsal/self-observation, self-goal establishment, self-esteem, self-criticism, self-reward. Organizational effectiveness included organizational commitment and job satisfaction. The data was analysed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation and multiple regression. Results : The dominant organizational culture was rank-oriented culture. The mean score of self-readership score was 3.51 out of a maximum 5 points. Organizational commitment was positively correlated with age, relation-oriented culture, self-goal establishment, self-reward explained 41.9% and job satisfaction was positively correlated with relation-oriented culture and self-esteem explained 48.6%. Conclusions : Based on the findings, the organizational culture and self-readership was correlated with organizational effectiveness. These results suggest that further development should be continued to develop the effective self-readership and organizational culture to improve the organizational effectiveness of oral healthcare professional.
