  • Background: According to recent statistics, the breast cancer rate is growing fast in developing countries. In North West of Iran, the incidence of breast cancer after esophageal and gastric cancers has the highest rate. Previous studies have also indicated that women in this region show reluctance to do breast cancer screening. There is a great need for change to promote breast cancer screening among women. Social marketing is a discipline that uses the systematic application of commercial marketing techniques to promote the adoption of behavior by the target audience. Materials and Methods: In the present qualitative study, thirty-two women with breast cancer were interviewed about their experiences of breast cancer screening. A semi-structured interview guide was designed to elicit information specific to the 4 P's in social marketing. Results: Three main categories emerged from the analysis: price, service and promotion. Subcategories related to these main categories included factors effective in increasing and decreasing cost of screening, current and desirable features of screening services, and weakness of promotion. Conclusions: Screening programs should be designed to be of low cost, to meet patients' needs and should be provided in suitable places. Furthermore, it is essential that the cultural beliefs of society be improved through education. It seems necessary to design an executive protocol for breast cancer screening at different levels of primary health care to increase the women's willingness to undergo screening.

  • Development of infusion pumps enabled injecting medical substances continuously and automatically to patients in hospitals. However, in cases when patients encountered emergent situations when moving to other areas, no clear measures were taken. The problem is that even the lightest error in injecting medical substances could be critical to the patient. That is why we proposes a remote infusion monitoring system using wireless network and RFID technology in this paper. When a problem occurs in the infusion pump, the medical personnel are informed of their patients' emergent situation and location information via wireless network so not only can they swiftly and accurately provide medical services but also can prevent safety accidents due to infusion pumps.

  • The ubiquitous healthcare environment is one of the systems that benefit from wireless sensor network. But one of the challenges with wireless sensor network is its high loss rates when transmitting data. Data from the biosensors may not reach the base stations which can result in missing values. This paper proposes the Health Monitor Agent (HMA) to gather data from the base stations, predict missing values, classify symptom patterns into medical conditions, and take appropriate action in case of emergency. This agent is applied in the Ubiquitous Healthcare Environment and uses data from the biosensors and from the patient’s medical history as symptom patterns to recognize medical conditions. In the event of missing data, the HMA uses a predictive algorithm to fill missing values in the symptom patterns before classification. Simulation results show that the predictive algorithm using the HMA makes classification of the symptom patterns more accurate than other methods.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to prepare basic data to build an Oriental medicine support system for sexual violence victims through a survey on perceptions of Korean medical doctors about sexual violence. Methods: From 18 September 2019 to 24 September 2019, the online survey was conducted by both Korean medical doctors and students of the Korean Medical College. Thereafter, a quantitative statistical analysis was conducted on data from a total of 1,011 respondents, including 749 doctors and 262 students. Results and Conclusions: Many of the doctors and the students who answered were not fully aware of public services and legal systems related to sexual violence. Most Korean doctors had very little experience in treating victims of sexual violence. Most respondents thought that the number of designated Oriental medicine institutions for sexual violence victims should increase, and related education and Oriental medicine manuals would be essential. Most respondents said that information about trauma treatment would be essential. In addition, the Korean medicine group showed overall good scores in the perception of sexual violence. However, there were statistically significant differences in perception between males and female, and among age groups. We hope that this study could be used as basic data for establishing an Oriental medicine support system for sexual violence victims.

  • This study was executed for 300 mothers bringing up a child below 3 years in the area of Kangnung to assess the current weaning practice of infants. 24.6% of mother surveyed were breast-fed, 57.8% were formula-fed and 17.5% were mixed-fed. The rate of breast feeding was lower and the rate of bottle feeding was higher in infants whose mothers had more income or higher educational period or full-time job. Most of the respondents knew the significance of supplementary food. 41.4% of the subjects started weaning of their infants at 3-4 months, and 84.1% of them set on weaning in less than 7 months after babies were born. And 39.4% of the subjects finished weaning of their infants in less than one year. The infants of this study preferred the fruits and fishes to meats, vegetables and beans that served to them as supplementary food. Mothers showed deep interest in recipe of weaning food(48.5%), adequate quantity of weaning food(36.3%), information on commercial food for infants(32.2%), and sequence in which semi-solid food are introduced(31.9%). From these results, it is suggested that education program in primary health center for improvement of weaning practice of infants should be implemented reflecting needs of mothers.

  • Due to the rapidly ageing population and low birth rates, most countries have faced with the problems of an ageing population. As a result, research into aging and the means to support an aging population has therefore become a priority for many governments around the world. Ambient Assisted Living(AAL) approach is the way to guarantee better life conditions for the aged and for monitoring their health conditions by the development of innovative technologies and services. AAL technologies can provide more safety for the elderly, offering emergency response mechanisms and fall detection solutions. Since the information transmitted in AAL systems is very personal, however, the security and privacy of such data are becoming important issues that must be dealt with. In this paper, we propose a Chameleon hash-based secure authentication protocol for AAL systems. The proposed authentication protocol not only supports several important security requirements needed by the AAL systems, but can also withstand various types of attacks. In addition, the security analysis results show that the proposed authentication protocol is more efficient and secure than the existing authentication protocols.

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: This study examined the effect of nutrition labeling formats on parents' food choices for their children at different restaurant types. SUBJECTS/METHODS: An online survey was conducted with 1,980 parents of children aged 3-12 years. Participants were randomly assigned to fast food or family restaurant scenarios, and one of four menu stimuli conditions: no labeling, low-calorie symbol (symbol), numeric value (numeric), and both low-calorie symbol and numeric value (symbol + numeric). Participants selected menu items for their children. Menu choices and total calories were compared by nutrition labeling formats in each type of the restaurant. RESULTS: Low-calorie item selections were scored and a two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted for an interaction effect between restaurant and labeling type. In the fast food restaurant group, parents presented with low-calorie symbols selected the lowest calorie items more often than those not presented with the format. Parents in the symbol + numeric condition selected significantly fewer calories (653 kcal) than those in the no labeling (677 kcal) or numeric conditions (674 kcal) (P = 0.006). In the family restaurant group, no significant difference were observed among different labeling conditions. A significant interaction between restaurant and labeling type on low-calorie selection score (F = 6.03, P < 0.01) suggests that the effect of nutrition labeling format interplays with restaurant type to jointly affect parents' food choices for their children. CONCLUSIONS: The provision of easily interpretable nutritional information format at fast food restaurants may encourage healthier food choices of parents for their children; however, the effects were negligible at family restaurants.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze characteristics of welfare level for the persons with disabilities in Korean local governments. The study adopted multidimensional scaling and cluster analysis. Based on prior studies and comparative importance research, three indicators were extracted from the welfare circumstance index for the disabled. They are the ratio of the registered disabled population, the ratio of the disabled household in poor households, the ratio of dependence on public finance. Also, nine dimensions and twenty seven indicators were extracted from the welfare level index. The dimensions are as follows : Education, income & economic activities support, welfare services infra-structure, health & welfare service support, movement convenience & safety, rights protection, culture, leisure & information accessibility, welfare administration & budget for the disabled. The findings from the welfare circumstance index show that local governments are divided into three groups and all indicators are statistically significant. On the other hand, the findings from the welfare level index, show that local governments are divided into four groups and five indicators are statistically significant. Based on these findings, the study proposes improvement in the disabled welfare level, and balanced development of local governments.
