  • A simple steel-concrete composite deck is developed for preventing the lateral torsional buckling of girders that are under construction and for reducing the term of works using H-shaped rolled beams as bridge girders. A new type of shear connectors is also developed for the composite behavior between a simple steel-concrete composite deck and the rolled beams by the connecting conditions between the deck and the girders. One is a connector bolt that is lengthened and split or tightened with two nuts and the other is an I-shaped rolled beam welded on a steel plate with a number of holes punched through the web. In this study, to estimate the shear strength of those shear connectors the push-out tests are performed and the test results are compared with that of the previous studies and the codes. The result of the push-out tests of the connector bolts showed that the shear performance is similar to that of the stud connector and revealed that the equation for the shear strength in the Korean Specification of Highway Bridge overestimates the shear capacity of the connector bolt whose diameter is larger than 19mm. From the push-out tests of punched I-shaped rolled beams with varying welding amounts, with the small amount of welding, shear capacity is governed by the shear capacity of welding. On the other hand, shear capacity is governed by the size of the punched I-shaped rolled beams, regardless of the amount of welding.

  • In this study, as a method for decreasing the confidence interval of the estimates of Clark hydrograph's concentration time and storage coefficient, regression equations of these parameters with respect to those of rainfall, meteorology, and basin characteristics are derived and analyzed using the Monte Carlo simulation technique. The results are also reviewed by comparing them with those derived by applying the Bootstrap technique and empirical equations. Results derived from this research are summarized as follows. (1) Even in case of limited rainfall events are available, it is possible to estimate the mean runoff characteristics by considering the affecting factors to runoff characteristics. (2) It is also possible to use the Monte Carlo simulation technique for estimating and evaluating the confidence intervals for concentration time and storage coefficient. The confidence intervals estimated in this study were found much narrower than those of Yoo et al. (2006). (3) A supporting result could also be derived using the Bootstrap technique. However, at least 20 independent rainfall events are necessary to get a rather significant result for concentration time and storage coefficient. (4) No empirical equations are found to be properly applicable for the study basin. However, empirical equations like the Kraven(I) and Kraven(II) are found valid for the estimation of concentration time, on the other hand the Linsley is found valid for the storage coefficient In this study basin. But users of these empirical formula should be careful as these also provide a wide range of possible values.

  • This study evaluated the parameters of Clark unit hydrograph (UH) estimated using the rainfall-runoff measurements and evaluated their variability. This also includes the quantification of basin and meteorological factors using probability density functions, selection of storm events with mean affecting factors, and derivation of average parameters of the Clark UH from storm events selected. Summarizing the results from this procedure are as follows. (1) It is not easy to avoid much uncertainty on the decision of runoff characteristics (that is, the concentration time and storage coefficient) even with some rainfall-runoff events are available. (2) As the distribution function of concentration time is very skewed, a simple arithmetic mean may lead a biased estimate. That is, the arithmetic mean based on the normal distribution can not be representative anymore. The mode may well be the representative in this case. On the other hand, the storage coefficient shows a symmetric distribution function, so the arithmetic mean may be used use for its representative. For the basin in this study, the concentration time in this study is estimated to be about 7 hours, and the storage coefficient about 22 hours.

  • In recent years, the Korean Medical Association has undertaken the feat of establishing the Korean Standard Terminology of Medical Procedures with the dedicated help of 32 medical academic societies. However, because the project is being conducted by several different circles, it has yet to see a clear system of classification. This thesis, therefore, proposes the three principles of scientific properties, usefulness and ideology as the basis for classification system and has developed the Classification System of Medical Procedures in Korea upon their foundation. The methodology and organization of this thesis as follows. First, by adopting scientific classification system of Feinstein(1988), an analysis of the classification systems of the medical procedures in the United States, Japan, Taiwan, WHO was carried out to reveal the framework and the basic principles in each system. Second, the direction of classification system has been constructed by applying the normative principle of medical field in order to show the future direction of the medical field and realize its ideology. Third, a finalized framework for the classification system will be presented as based on the direction of classification system. Of the three basis principles mentioned above, the analysis on the principles of usefulness was left out of this thesis due to the difficulty of establishing specific standards of analysis. The results of the study are as follows. The overall structure of the thesis is aimed at showing the 'Prevention-Therapy-Rehabilitation' quality of comprehensive health care and consists of six chapters; I. Prevention and Health Promotion II. Evaluation and Management III. Diagnostic Procedures IV. Endoscopy V. Therapeutic Procedures VI. Rehabilitation Chapter three Diagnostic Procedures is divided into four parts : Functional Diagnosis, Visual Diagnosis, Pathological Diagnosis, Biopsy and Sampling. Chapter five Therapeutic Procedures is divided into Psychiatry, Non-Invasive Therapy, Invasive Therapy, Anaesthesia and Radiation Oncology. Of these sub-divisions, Functional Diagnosis, Biopsy and Sampling, Endoscopy and Invasive Therapy employs the anatomical system of classification. On the other hand, Visual Diagnosis, Pathological Diagnosis, Anesthesia and Diagnostic Radiology, namely those divisions in which there is little or no overlapping in services with other divisions, used the classification system of its own division. The classification system introduced in this thesis can be further supplemented through the use of the cluster analysis by incorporating the advice and assistance of other specialists.

  • IIn vitro antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities of nargenicin and its derivatives were investigated. Nargenicin, an unusual macrolide antibiotic with potent anti-MRSA (methicilin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) activity, was purified from the culture broth of Nocardia sp. CS682. And variety of novel nargenicin derivatives was synthesized from nargenicin. Two compounds (4 and 5) exhibit a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activities against infectious bacteria. The antimicrobial activity of derivatives against fifteen organisms was assessed using the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). The MIC values were in the ranges of $0.15{\sim}80{\mu}g/mL$ (w/v) for compound 1 and 2, $5{\sim}80{\mu}g/mL$ (w/v) for compound 3, $1.25{\sim}40{\mu}g/mL$ (w/v) for compound 4, and $1.25{\sim}80{\mu}g/mL$ (w/v) for compound 5, depending on the pathogens studied. In vitro, we investigated cytotoxicity and inhibition of nitric oxide (NO) production of synthesized compounds 1-5 in Raw 264.7 cells. LPS-induced nitric oxide releases were significantly blocked by compound 3, 4 and 5 in a dose-dependent manner. At high concentrations ($5{\mu}g/mL$) compound 5 inhibited the NO production by 95%. Compound 4 inhibited the release of NO in LPS-activated Raw 264.7 cells by 75% at the concentration of $10{\mu}g/mL$. Compound 3 inhibited the release of NO in LPS-activated Raw 264.7 cells by 65% at the concentration of $100{\mu}g/mL$. On the other hand, nargenicin, compound 1 and 2 did not inhibit NO production. These results demonstrated that compound 4 and 5 displayed antimicrobial activity and blocked LPS-induced pro-inflammatory mediators such as NO in macrophages, which might be responsible for its therapeutic application.

  • Italian ryegrass, red clover, sorghum, and alfalfa were used for leaf protein preparation. Fresh leaves were pulped in the presence or absence of a reducing agent(sodium ascorbate or NaHSO$_{4}$) and green juice was heated and washed with acetone. The biological evaluation of leaf proteins was carried out by the growth method with male rats weighing about 45g. Italian ryegrass, red clover, and sorghum were brown when leaves were pulped in the absence of a reducing agent. On the other hand, alfalfa had neither o-diphenolics nor polyphenolase, and hence the alfalfa leaf protein did not brown during pulping ever in the absence of a reducing agent. The brown leaf protein from Italian ryegrass hd lower digestibility than the leaf protein protected from browning, although there were no difference in growth-promoting effect and protein efficiency ratio(PER)between the two leaf protein. The feeding of brown leaf protein from red clover resulted in the lowering of weight gain, digestibility, and PER, and all the measurement including diet intake were lowered by feeding the brown leaf protein from sorghum. In the case of alfalfa leaf protein, there were no difference in nutritional quality between the two leaf protein made with and without an attempt to prevent browning. The results mentioned above indicate that the occurrence of phenolics and polyphemolase in a crop in responsible for the browning of leaf protein and that the browning of leaf protein caused its nutritional impairment.

  • Quality properties of pork restructured jerky manufactured using various concentrations of black rice powder were examined. The moisture contents and pH of samples increased with an increase in concentration of black rice powder. On the other hand, the protein and fat contents of samples decreased with an increase in concentration of black rice powder. Lightness, redness, and yellowness values of uncooked and cooked samples showed a downward trend with an increase in concentration of black rice powder. Water holding capacity and cooking yield of the samples containing 3% and 5% black rice powder were higher than those of the control and 1% black rice powder samples (p<0.05). Samples containing 3% black rice powder showed a lower shear force than that of the control (p<0.05). Sensory evaluation of color, flavor, tenderness, and overall acceptability were enhanced with an increase in concentration of black rice powder. These results show that supplementation added with black rice powder in pork restructured jerky enhances its quality properties.

  • This study was designed to evaluate the quality characteristics and antioxidant activities of noodles containing Allium senescens L. powder (0, 2, 4, 6, and 8%). With an increase in the consumption of Allium senescens L., there was a decrease in pH (p<0.001), water absorption ratio, volume expansion ratio, and turbidity (p<0.05). The colorvalue showed that the addition of Allium senescens L. decreased the L and b values. On the other hand, a value was increased (p<0.001). The mechanical texture of the noodles containing Allium senescens L. was decreased by the addition of Allium senescens L. considering its hardness and chewiness; however, it increased the adhesiveness, springiness, and cohesiveness (p<0.001). In the sensory evaluation, the noodles with 4% Allium senescens L. powder showed the best results (p<0.001). The total polyphenol content, total flavonoid content, DPPH radical scavenging, and reducing power were increased upon addition of Allium senescens L. powder (p<0.001).

  • The purposes of this study were to : (a) analyze university students' perception and patronage behaviors to the service quality dimensions, and (b) assist university residence hall foodservices in formulating improved managerial strategies. Questionnaires were hand delivered and mailed to 1,210 university students residing in the residence hall and 13 foodservice managers. A total of 1,011 was usable; resulting in 83.6% response rate. The survey was conducted between October, 1998 and May, 1999. Statistical data analysis was completed using the SAS/Win 6.12 for Descriptive Analysis, $x^2-test$, T-test, ANOVA, and Stepwise Multiple Regression. Forty-seven percent of the respondents indicated that 'taste' was their first priority when choosing a menu. The reasons behind choosing residence hall foodservice were 'location', 'board plan', 'price', 'taste', 'opening hours', and 'menu variety'. The main reasons of dissatisfaction with the residence hall foodservice were 'board plan', 'taste', 'menu variety'. The overall satisfaction score was 2.99 out of 5. The satisfaction score of ${\ulcorner}convenience{\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner}food\;quality{\lrcorner}$ and ${\ulcorner}menu\;variety{\lrcorner}$were 3.25, 2.94 and 2.76, respectively. Generally, male students were more satisfied than females. Graduate students and students living in residence halls over six semesters were the most dissatisfied with the residence hall foodservice. Residence hall students were dissatisfied with the variables ${\ulcorner}menu\;variety{\lrcorner}$ and ${\ulcorner}facilities{\lrcorner}$in 'self-operated' operations, whereas ${\ulcorner}food\;quality{\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner}menu\;variety{\lrcorner}$ and ${\ulcorner}price{\lrcorner}$ in 'contracted' operations. Foodservice operations with 'less than 1,000 meals serving per day' was the highest satisfaction score(3.36) among other serving sizes. Meal price with 'less than 1,300 won' was most satisfied with students. When overall customer satisfaction and service quality dimensions were analyzed by Stepwise Multiple Regression ${\ulcorner}food\;quality{\lrcorner}$(p<.001), ${\ulcorner}price{\lrcorner}$(p<.001), ${\ulcorner}facilities{\lrcorner}$(p<.001), ${\ulcorner}convenience{\lrcorner}$(p<.001), ${\ulcorner}menu\;variety{\lrcorner}$(p<.001), ${\ulcorner}manager's\;attitude{\lrcorner}$(p<.0l), and ${\ulcorner}atmosphere{\lrcorner}$(p<.01), in decreasing order, significantly impacted on ${\ulcorner}overall\;customer\;satisfaction{\lrcorner}$.
