The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the rate of change of air respirator consumption based on field fire fighting activities, The results of the experiment are as follows. The mean air consumption of the Five subjects was $15.56{\ell}/min$ when standing still, $32.43{\ell}/min$ when walking with normal pace, $43.07{\ell}/min$ when the fire hoses was expanded and arranged, $55.28{\ell}/min$ when climbing stairs, The situation of running up the stairs and hitting the hammer continuously increases to $127.14{\ell}/min$, which means that the consumption of air increases according to the energy consumption. Despite being the oldest, Experimental subject A was $13.23{\ell}/min$ when standing still, $29.33{\ell}/min$ when walking normally, and $41.08{\ell}/min$ when the fire hose was deployed and arranged. This is a result of familiarity with deep and slow breathing methods. The average respiratory use rate of subjects D was $63.58{\ell}/min$. The reason for this is that obesity seems to increase the air consumption, and it is considered that the physical strength is exhausted by the action of the hammer, which has a greater influence on the increase of air consumption. The subject E had significantly lower air respiratory use rate of $49.90{\ell}/min$. The reason for this is that the age of E is the youngest among the subjects, and it is presumed that it possesses strong physical strength.
In mechanical industries, forging is one of the basic process. But comparing the other developed industries, forging industries can not reach at the level of that development. In forging industries, the quality of the products totally depends on the skills of workers and also the precision of the equipments. Particularly because the open die forging industry is unable to deviate from the past method of production and all works are manually progressed, the operator is always exposed to the danger. In the regard some additional device has been made especially. Thus, in this research, by using the forklift as the means for the manipulation of the development object system, it tries to be comprised the process automation. After than it is fitted with the forklift for safe and easy handling of jobs and products during open die forging process. First of all, development system mold has been assembled to the system, after than it is assembled with forklift. This development system has been applied for handling of large scale products more than 300kg, and the satisfactory result with uniform quality of the products have been achieved due to this mechanical setup.

This paper investigates the soundness of porcelain insulators associated with the acoustic emission (AE) technique. The AE technique is a popular non-destructive method that measures and analyzes the burst energy that occurs mainly when a crack occurs in a high-frequency region. Typical AE methods require continuous monitoring with frequent sensor calibration. However, in this study, the AE technique excites a porcelain insulator using only an impact hammer, and it applies a high-pass filter to the signal frequency range measured only in the AE sensor by comparing the AE and the acceleration sensors. Next, the extracted time-domain signal is analyzed for the damage assessment. In normal signals, the duration is about 2ms, the area of the envelope is about 1,000, and the number of counts is about 20. In the damage signal, the duration exceeds 5ms, the area of the envelope is about 2,000, and the number of counts exceeds 40. In addition, various characteristics in the time and frequency domain for normal and damage cases are analyzed using the short-time Fourier transform (STFT). Based on the results of the STFT analysis, the maximum energy of a normal specimen is less than 0.02, while in the case of the damage specimen, it exceeds 0.02. The extracted high-frequency components can present dynamic behavior of crack regions and eigenmodes of the isolated insulator parts, but the presence, size, and distribution of cracks can be predicted indirectly. In this regard, the characteristics of the surface crack region were derived in this study.

The aim of the present study is to derive an empirical formula relating the absorbed energy and the cutting length for longitudinally stiffened steel palates which are cut by a wedge, idealizing the ship bottom stiffened platings in groundings. This study is based on the test results and the investigations of some parameters affecting the cutting response, described in Part I. By dimensionless ana1ysis of the test results obtained in a quasi-static loading condition, the energy absorbed while a longitudinally stiffened plate is cut by a wedge is expressed as functions of the cutting length, the yield stress, the equivalent plate thickness and the wedge angle. Also, the dynamic effects are incorporated into the static formula such that the proposed formula can be applied to the impact loading situations. The validity of the proposed formula is checked by comparing with the results obtained by the other existing formulas or by the drop-hammer tests.
This study is to examine the engineering characteristics of colunmar joints in Mudeugsan National Park, a global geopark. For these purposes, physical and mechanical properties of Mudeungsan Tuff, evaluation for the weathering degree of columnar joints, and crack behavior monitoring in columnar joints were conducted. The physical properties of Mudeungsan tuff were 1.02% for the average porosity, 0.38% for the average absorption, 2.69 g/㎤ for the average specific gravity, and 4,948 m/s for the average elastic wave velocity. Its mechanical properties were 337 MPa for the average uniaxial compressive strength, 68 GPa for the average elastic modulus, 0.29 for the average Poisson's ratio, 41.3 MPa for the average cohesion strength, and 62.8° for the average friction angle. the average rebound Q-value of the silver Schmidt hammer for the three columnar joint blocks at the Ipseok-dae was shown as 49.3. when this value is converted into uniaxial compressive strength, it becomes 70.5 MPa, which is about 21% of the uniaxial compression strength of Mudeungsan tuff. In addition, according to the results of crack monitoring measurements for the three columnar joint blocks at the Ipseok-dae, the crack behavior is less than 1 mm, so it is believed that its behavior in Ipseak-dae columnar joints has hardly occured to date.
To improve the pile design efficiency(design bearing capacity/the strength of materials) from 70 percent(160tonf) to 80 percent(190tonf), this paper analysed the existing pile loading test data and performed the precise dynamic loading test and Bi-directional loading test for the first time in Korea. Analysis result of the existing dynamic loading test data by Davisson method showed that bearing capacity of piles penetrated at weathered rock stratum(N=50/15) exceeded 190tonf. But the analysis result by CAPWAP method showed that piles less than the target bearing capacity were 40% due to the lack of impact energy. To get the target bearing capacity from the dynamic loading test, using the hammer over 6tonf to trigger the enough impact energy is necessary. Allowable bearing capacty of Bi-directional static loading test by Davisson method was 260.0~335tonf(ave. 285.3tonf) and exceeded overwhelmingly the target capacity. And this exceeded the bearing capacity of precise dynamic loading test(ave. 202.3tonf) performed on the same piles over 40%. The difference between the capacity of Bi-directional loading test and dynamic loading test was caused by the insufficient impact energy during dynamic loading test and increase by interlocking effect by near piles during Bi-directional static loading test.

This study presents dynamic responses of circular pipe models as a part of fundamental studies on dynamic stability monitoring of the large circular steel pipe cofferdam with the ship collision. Small-scaled laboratory experiments are performed with a single and bolted circular steel pipes with a diameter, thickness, and height of 30, 0.4, 90 cm, respectively. The bolted circular steel pipe is configured with three segments of 30 cm in height. Circular steel pipe models are embedded in a soil tank, all 1 m in length, width, and height. The thickness of soil in the soil tank is set at 23 cm. The ship collision is simulated with a hammer impacting. The dynamic responses are investigated with different water levels of 25, 40, 55, and 70 cm. Experimental results show that a signal energy decreases with increasing water level. More sensitive reduction in the energy appears for the bolted circular steel pipe. A predominant frequency decreases with increasing water level for both single and bolted steel pipes. The minor reduction in the frequency appears for the bolted circular steel pipe under the water level of 70 cm. This study suggests that the signal energy and frequency response is useful for the dynamic stability monitoring of the large circular steel pipe cofferdam.
To enhance the recycling rate of wasted glass bottles toward recycled aggregates, the study would decide optimal comminution equipment based on the particle size distribution, aspect ratio and equipment energy analysis. The impact, compress and abrasion is type of generated force by comminution. So, hammer crusher, shredder, roll crusher and ball mill have been selected because they have characteristic which is each type of force. As a result of the particle size analysis of each product, only the shredder product satisfied concrete and asphalt aggregate quality standard condition. Also, as a result of aspect ratio analysis using Imaging software program (Image J, National institute of health), most of size fraction is confirmed under 1.6 value. It was confirmed that the product has low dangerousness and satisfying to shpage index. Also, the particle reduction ratio against input energy of shredder product was the most high. Therefore, we can decide that the optimal equipment which applicable for comminuting waste glass bottle in certain particle size under 10mm is shredder. The result of study will make contribution to increasing energy efficiency of comminution processing and competitiveness of product.

With the recent increase in size of ships and offshore structures, there are more demand for thicker plates. As the thickness increases, it is known that fatigue life of the structures decrease. To improve the fatigue life, post weld treatments techniques, such as toe grinding, TIG dressing and hammer peening, are typically employed. However, these techniques require additional construction time and production cost. Therefore, it is of crucial interest steels with longer fatigue crack growth life compared to conventional steels. This study investigates fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) behaviours of conventional EH36 steel and Ferrite-Bainite dual phase EH36 steel (F-B steel). F-B steel is known to have improved fatigue performance associated with the existence of two different phases. Ferrite-Bainite dual phase microstructures are obtained by special thermo mechanical control process (TMCP). FCGR behaviours are investigated by a series of constant stress-controlled FCGR tests. Considering all test conditions (ambient, low temperature, high stress ratio), it is shown that FCGR of F-B steel is slower than that of conventional EH36 steel. From the tensile tests and impact tests, F-B steel exhibits higher values of strength and impact energy leading to slower FCGR.

Accident statistics shows that the portion of fatal occupant injuries due to side impacts is considerably high. The side impact usually leads to a severe intrusion of side structure into the passenger compartment. Furthermore, the safety zone for the side impact is relatively small compared to the front impact. Those kinds of physics for side impact frequently result in a fatal injury for the occupant. Therefore, NHTSA and EEVC are trying to intensify the regulation for the occupant protection against side impact. Both the regulation and recent market trends are asking for an installation of side airbag. There are several types of system configuration for side impact sensing. In this paper, we adopt the acceleration-based remote sensing method for the side airbag control system. We mainly focus on the development of hardware and crash discrimination algorithm of remote sensing unit. The crash discrimination algorithm needs fast decision of airbag firing especially for high-speed side impact such as FMVSS 214 and EEVC tests. It is also required to distinguish between low-speed fire and no-fire events. The algorithm should have a sufficient safety margin against any misuse situation such as hammer blow, door slam, etc. This paper introduces several firing criteria such as acceleration. velocity and energy criteria that use physical value proportional to crash severity. We have made a simulation program by using Matlab/Simulink to implement the proposed algorithm. We have conducted an algorithm calibration by using real crash data for 2,500cc vehicle. The crash performance obtained by the simulation was verified through a pulse injection method. It turned out that the results satisfied the system requirements well.
