In the current study, the R-value behavior of a two-layer clad steel was investigated using finite element analysis. Hill's 1948 anisotropic yield equation was employed to characterize the anisotropic behavior of the steel with different assumed properties: isotropic (R=1) and anisotropic (R=2). Experimental R-values were determined by measuring the width and thickness ratios of tensile specimens. Finite element analysis results demonstrate a difference in strain behavior in the width and the thickness directions of the clad steel. The R-value behavior depends on the fraction of the clad materials and total elongation.

The purpose of this study was to clarify the different mechanical properties of fabrics among the theme groups classified by fashion fabric trend. This study can be useful for fabric marketers and planners to design new products. In order to carry out this study, the fabric samples of representative theme for‘2002/03 F/W fashion fabric trend were collected from a fashion company and were measured to analyze the mechanical properties, hand value(H.V) and total hand value(T.H.V) by KES-FB System. The results were as follows. 1. The theme-A of‘Luxury, Elegance’was consisted of wool, rayon and PET and had a lower B, 2HB of bending properties and a lower G and 2HG5 of shear properties. The theme-B of‘Technical, Functional’was consisted of synthetic fibers such as PET, PA, PU and elastic fiber and had a higher MIU and a lower MMD, SMD of surface properties. The theme-C of‘Vintage, Aged’was consisted of mostly cotton and had the highest B and 2HB. The theme-D of‘Fancy, Airy’was consisted of mostly woolen wool, polyacryl and polyamide and had a high MMD and SMD of surface properties and a high LC and RC of compression properties. 2. As the results of analyzing H.V and T.H.V through KES-FB system, the theme-A showed a higher Smoothness and lower Stiffness. The theme-B had a lower Smoothness, Fullness, Soft feeling and T.H.V and the theme-C had the highest Stiffness. The theme-D showed the highest Fullness and Soft Feeling but the lowest Stiffness.
Using multi-trait animal model BLUP, selection was conducted over seven generations for growth rate (DG), real-time ultrasound loin-eye muscle area (LEA), backfat thickness (BF), and intramuscular fat content (IMF) to develop a new line of purebred Duroc pigs with enhanced meat production and meat quality. This study was intended to investigate the relationship between restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) of a heart fatty acid-binding protein (H-FABP) gene and intramuscular fat content (IMF) of this Duroc purebred population. The present experiment examined the RFLP of 499 slaughtered pigs. The DNA was separated from the blood or ear tissue of the pigs, which were slaughtered at 105 kg of body weight. Intramuscular fat content of the longissimus muscle was measured using chemical analysis. A significant difference was detected in the breeding value of IMF among the H-FABP PCR RFLP genotypes. The AA genotype has a significantly larger positive effect on the IMF breeding value than do the Aa and aa genotypes for the MspI RFLP. In addition, the DD genotype has a significantly greater positive effect on IMF breeding value than the Dd and dd genotypes for the HaeIII RFLP. For the HinfI RFLP, the hh genotype has a significantly larger positive effect on IMF breeding value than the HH genotype. Multiple regression analysis was performed using the IMF breeding values as the dependent variable and the three H-FABP genotypes as independent variables. Results revealed that the contribution of the genotypes to variation in IMF breeding values was approximately 40%. These results demonstrated that H-FABP RFLPs affect IMF in this Duroc population.

Acoustic analysis study was performed on 20 normal subjects by speaking nonsense syllables composed of Korean bilabial stops$(/P, P^{\star}, P^{h}/)$ and their preceding and/or following vowel /a/ (that is, $[pa, p^{\star}a, p^{h}a, apa, ap^{\star}a, ap^{h}a]$) with an ultraminiature pressure, sensor. in their mouths. Speech materials were phonated twice, once with a moderate voice, another time with a loud voice. The acoustic signal and intraoral pressure were recorded simultaneously on computer. By these procedures, we were to measure the intraoral pressure, closure duration and VOT of Korean bilabial stops, and to compare the values one another according to the intensity of phonation and the position of the target consonants. Intraoral pressure was measured by the peak intraoral pressure value of Its wave closure duration by the time interval between the onset of intraoral pressure build-up and the burst meaning the release of closure ; Voice onset time(VOT) on by the time interval between the burst and the onset or glottal vibration. Heavily aspirated bilabial stop consonant /$p^h$/ showed the highest intraoral pressure value, unaspirated /$p^{\star}$/, the second, slightly aspirated /P/, the lowest. The syllable initial bilabial stops showed higher intraoral pressure than word initial stops, and the value of loudly phonated consonants were higher than moderate consonants. The longest closure duration period was that of /$p^{\star}$/ and the shortest, /P/, and the duration was longer in word initial position and in the moderate voice. In VOT, the order of the longest to shortest was $/{p^h}/, /p/, /{p^\star}/$, and the value was shorer when the consonant was in intervocalic position and when it was phonated with a loud voice.

Mulberry leaves containing 1-deoxynojirimycin (DNJ) known to be a strong inhibitory effect for ${\alpha}-glucosidase$. Thus, DNJ has been recognized as a potentially important source for prevent or treat hyperglycemia. More effective method for the DNJ high-production is needed because DNJ content of natural mulberry leaf are as low as 0.1%. Many researchers have studied for the DNJ high-production in mulberry leaves such as the harvest season, fermentation using microorganisms, optimal culture conditions, and optimal extraction conditions. In order to provide for useful data that is anticipated at the level of industrial scale, we investigated ${\alpha}-glucosidase$ inhibitory activity, pH value and DNJ content in large-scale based on the optimal culture conditions for mulberry leaf fermentation of small-scale in our previous study. The ${\alpha}-glucosidase$ inhibitory activity, pH value, and DNJ content in this study were measured from the mulberry leaf fermentation broth for 7 days. During mulberry leaf fermentation, the ${\alpha}-glucosidase$ inhibitory activity and DNJ content was increased until 2 to 4 days, but after 4 day was decreased. The pH value showed a decreasing trend up to 2 day, and little changes in 2 to 4 days. However, the pH was started to increase after 4 days.
In this paper the method of estimating the bearing capacity of shallow foundation on a finite layer of sandy ground underlain by a rigid base was proposed by assessing results of the model test and the numerical analyses. For model experiments, the centrifuge tests under 1g and 20 g of gravitational levels were performed with sandy soils sampled from the field, changing the relative density of sandy soil and the ratio of thickness of sand layer (H) to the width of strip footing (B). As results of tests, bearing capacity tends to increase with the value of H/B while settlement for a given load intensity decreases. Bearing capacity also increases with relative density of the soil. In order to propose the method of estimating the bearing capacity of thin sandy layer underlain by a rigid base, values of bearing capacity factors from test results were compared with the values of modified bearing capacity factor by Mandel & Salencon (1972) considering the effect of H/B value on bearing capacity. The relation of bearing capacity factor ratio, normalizing friction angle of sandy soil, with the value of H/B was suggested so that this relation could be applied to design in the safe side. The results of numerical analyses obrained by changing the layout of footing, relative density of sandy soil and the value of H/B, were in good agreements with the suggested relation.

The purpose of this study is to examine the acidity of beverages that are sold for children in the market and to estimate by experiment the degree of the enamel erosion of deciduous teeth that is attributed to the beverages. The pH value of children beverages among top sale list in Seoul and Gyeonggi province were measured. And 7 beverages with the pH value of 3.5 or lower were selected. The enamel erosion of deciduous teeth by the children beverages for 1, 5, 10, and 30 minutes respectively was examined. The results were as follows: 1. The acidity of most of the children beverages examined in this study was the pH level of 5.5 or lower that can cause the tooth erosion. 2. The microhardness value of the enamel of deciduous teeth was lower as exposing it to children beverages. The reduction of surface microhardness value was significant from 1 minute after the exposure, and the reduction was continuously observed until 30 minutes has passed. 3. The higher the acidity of beverages, the larger the reduction in microhardness value caused after the exposure of 30 minutes to the beverages. There was no significant relation between the acidity of beverages and the reduction rate of surface microhardness value. The other factors such as calcium, phosphorus, and fluorine or buffering of the beverages may affect the enamel erosion.

This study was conducted to find out the coefficient relationships between intensity values of image processing and biological/physical parameters of soil in greenhouses. Soil images were obtained by an image processing system consisting of a personal computer and a CCD earners. A software written in Visual C$\^$++/ systematically integrated the functions of image capture, image processing, and image analysis. Image processing data of the soil samples were analyzed by the method of regression analysis. The results are as follows. For detecting soil density of unbroken soil samples, the highest correlation coefficients of 0.82 and 0.84, respectively were obtained fur R-value and S-value among image processing data while it was 0.97 for G-value. Considering the relationship between biological characteristics and image processing data of soil in greenhouse, the correlation was found generally low. For pH of unbroken soil sample, the correlation coefficients were found 0.87, 0.85, and 0.94, respectively with G, I, and H values of image processing data. In the case of bacteria, any correlation was not found with the image processing data For Actinomyctes, they were 0.86 and 0.85, respectively with G-value and B-value of image processing data showing high correlation coefficient compared to the other variables. The correlation coefficient between Fungi and H-value was shown 0.88, the highest among the variables higher than 0.8 while the other variables showed low correlation. For broken soil samples from greenhouse, the relation between biological parameter and image processing data were rarely shown in this study. The results of this study indicated that most of correlation coefficient between the variables were usually lower than 0.01. Accordingly, it was assumed that the soil should be used without broken to fairly estimate biological characteristics using CCD camera.
This study was carried out to reveal the influence of discharge change on matters and stream water quality between pH, EC and dissolved matters obtained by observation of long-term and short-term on stream water quality and separated runoff components from stream water by using HYCYMODEL. From January in 1998 to September in 1999, it was estimated by relationships of character of water quality and discharge for the experimental watershed in Mt. Palgong. The results were summarized as follows : 1. Annual average pH values of stream water in 1998 and in 1999 were 6.48(6.22~6.89) and 6.52(5.75~7.18), respectively. The observed annual average pH values were maintaining identical values in general, but pH values decreased continuously during the four months after thinning in the experimental watershed. So thinning is suspected of the major cause for the decrease. 2. Annual average EC values of stream water in 1998 and in 1999 were $26.69(17.95{\sim}33.5){\mu}S/cm$ and $25.19(17.5{\sim}33.8){\mu}S/cm$, respectively. The observed annual average EC values were maintaining identical values in general. 3. As a result of the comparison of average dissolved ions of rainfall and stream water, $Na^+$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$, $Cl^-$, $NO_3{^-}$, and $SO_4{^{2-}}$ showed minus values between incomings and outgoings. $Na^+$ and $NO_3{^-}$ among the dissolved ions of stream water showed the highest concentration out of cations and anions respectively. 4. By the change of pH value in stream water due to rainfall events, pH value decreased with increasing runoff as pH value increased before and after peak flow. 5. By the change of EC value in stream water due to rainfall events, EC value decreased with increasing runoff of first rainfall as EC value changed with runoff before and after peak flow. 6. As the runoff increased, the concentration of $Na^+$, $Ca^{2+}$, $K^+$, total cation, $Cl^-$, and $SO_4{^{2-}}$ in stream water lowered. On the other hand, the runoff decreased, their concentration in stream water tended to get high. But in terms of $NO_3{^-}$ and total anion, they turned out vice versa. $Mg^{2+}$ produced no reaction. 7. The base flow among runoff components separated by using HYCYMODEL influenced greatly on pH, EC, concentration of cation and anion.
