A serial cephalometric study was undertaken to define the growth of the soft tissue facial profile in Korean children. The sample was composed of 25 males and 15 females for whom yearly cephalometric records were taken from the ages of 6 to 13 years. From the tracings, points on skeletal and soft tissue profiles were located and recorded on magnetic tape utilizing a Calcomp Talos RP660 X-Y digitizer. Linear and angular measurements of soft tissues were made directly from tape in a Cyber 174-16 computer after cephalometric enlargement had been corrected. A statistical evaluation was made of the data and the average profile diagrams in male and female were described by a Calcomp 960 pen plotter. On the basis of the findings of this study, the following trends were established. 1. The most prominent growth in soft tissue facial profile thickness was the nose and the least was the forehead. 2. The general growth direction of the soft facial tissue to the cranium described the downward and forward. 3. The degree of soft tissue facial convexity was decidely more than that exhibited earlier in life even though the soft tissue chin had protruded to the cranium. 4. The measurements indicated a general tendency for males to have larger nose and more convex and long soft tissue facial profile than did females. 5. Males showed significantly more growth than females in base of the upper lip and height of the upper anterior facial profile. 6. There was a difference between males and females in the rates of soft tissue facial profile growth. 7. Korean children showed less convex in the soft tissue profile convexity than did American children.
The purpose of this study was to classify different profiles of grit (effort vs. interest) and passion mindset (fixed vs. growth) in university students and to understand whether there are differences in psychological characteristics (ie. depression, anxiety and happiness) and career adaptability between the profiles. To this end, we recruited 359 students aged 18 and 25 and applied a Latent Profile Analysis(LPA). The results revealed 4 distinct profiles : Profile1-a burgeoning type, Profile2-an ordinary type, Profile3-a fixed/limited type, Profile4-sprouting/drifting type. The profile1(LP1, 22.2%) had high levels of grit and passion growth mindset. The profile2(LP2, 63.8%) showed average levels in both grit and passion mindset. The profile3(LP3, 8.8%) had a low level of grit and a high level of passion fixed mindset. The profile4(LP4, 5.1%) showed a low level of grit and a high level of passion growth mindset. The four profiles were distinct in psychological characteristics and career adaptability. The burgeoning type(profile1) was most adaptive in comparison to the fixed/limited type(profile 3). These results suggest that grit has more powerful effects on psychological characteristics while passion growth mindset exerts stronger influencers in career adaptability. Putting the results together, our findings imply that both passion growth mindset and grit need to be considered together to enhance the individuals' comprehensive well-being and to increase the level of adaptation for career preparation.
A numerical optimization procedure is developed to find the inlet velocity profile that yields the most uniform epitaxial layer in a vertical MOCVD reactor. It involves the solution of fully elliptic equations of motion, temperature, and concentration; the finite volume method based on SIMPLE algorithm has been adopted to solve the Navier-Stokes equations. The overall optimization process is highly nonlinear and has been efficiently treated by the sequential linear programming technique that breaks the non-linear problem into a series of linear ones. The optimal profile approximated by a 6th-degree Chebyshev polynomial is very successful in reducing the spatial non-uniformity of the growth rate. The optimization is particularly effective to the high Reynolds number flow. It is also found that a properly constructed inlet velocity profile can suppress the buoyancy driven secondary flow and improve the growth-rate uniformity.

Coverage-based software reliability growth models (SRGMs) have been developed and successfully applied in practice. Performance of a coverage-based SRG M depends on the coverage function employed by the SRGM. When the coverage function represents the coverage growth behavior well irrespective of type of the testing profile the corresponding coverage-based SRGM is expected to be widely applicable. This paper first conducts a study of selecting the most representative coverage functions among the available coverage functions. Then their performances are empirically evaluated and compared. The result provides a foundation for developing widely applicable coverage-based SRGMs and monitoring the progress of a testing process.
This investigation was undertaken to know how the bony facial profile could be changed with age. The 5 serial lateral cephalometric roentgenograms of the fourteen boys and fourteen girls between 7 and 11 years of age were studied and the findings seems to warrant the following conclusions. 1. The manaible tended to become more prognathic in relation to the cranial base (S-N) during growth, but the maxilla showed very little change. 2. There was increase in the inclination of the lower border of mandible associated with the increase in mandibular prognathism. 3. There was a tendency to being straight in bony facial profile due to the decrease in angle ANB with age. 4. The chin portion had a tendency to forward and downward growth in relation to the cranial base but there was slight strong tendency in downward growth. 5. The vertical growth was more prominant in the maxilla than in the mandible. 6. There was uniform and gradual increase of all measurements during growth. 7. Dimension of the craniofacial complex was larger in the boys than in the girls but this difference was not statistically significant. 8. Individual variation in skeletal growth was a normal occurrence.

For an aspect ratio (transport length-to-width) of 5, Pr = 2.89, Le = 0.018, Pe = 2.29, Cv = 1.11, $P_B$=40 Torr, solutally buoyancy-driven convection $(Gr_s=3.03{\times}10^5)$ due to the disparity in the molecular weights of the component A $(Hg_2Cl_2)$ and B (He) is stronger than thermally buoyancy-driven convection $(Cr_t=1.66{\times}10^4)$. The crystal growth rate is decreased exponentially for $2.5\;{\leq}\;Ar\;{\leq}\;5$, with (1) the linear temperature profile and a fixed temperature difference, (2) the imposed thermal profile, a fixed crystal region and varied temperature difference. This is related to the finding that the effects of side walls tend to stabilize convection in the growth reactor. But, with the imposed thermal profile, a fixed source region and varied temperature difference, the rate is increased far $2\;{\leq}\;Ar\;{\leq}\;3$, and remains nearly unchanged for $3\;{\leq}\;Ar\;{\leq}\;5$.
A nutrition study on weaned pigs using fermented soybean meal was done to determine the effect on growth performance, nutrients digestibility, blood profile and fecal microflora. A total of 100 weaning pigs with an initial average body weight (BW) of 8.27 ± 1.10 kg were randomly allotted into 1 of 2 dietary treatments in a 6-week feeding trial. There were 10 replicate pens in each treatment with 5 pigs per pen. The dietary treatments included: 1) control: Basal diet (CON); 2) fermented soybean meal (FSBM): Basal diet supplemented with 5% fermented soybean meal. The average daily feed intake (ADFI) was significantly improved (p < 0.05) with the dietary supplementation of the FSBM compared with the control meal during phase 2. The dietary supplementation with 5% FSBM had a significant effect (p < 0.05) on gain to feed ratio (G : F) during the overall experiment period. Collectively, the results of this study indicate that dietary supplementation of 5% fermented soybean meal improved the body weight and average daily gain (ADG), ADFI, and feed efficiency of the weaning pigs; however, there were no supplementation effects on total tract digestibility of dry matter (DM), nitrogen, energy, blood profile and fecal microflora.
Effects of supplemental charcoal powder and vitamin A on growth performance, serum profile and carcass characteristics with 24 Hanwoo steers were inves$\ell$ated. The Hanwoo steers were randomly assigned to one of the three dietary treatments: 1) Control(commercial feed), 2) Tl(commercial feed supplemented with 2% charcoal powder and 0.2 % vitamin A), 3) T2(commercial feed with 2 % charcoal powder). In the age 26 month, body weight of control Tl and T2 were 633.8 kg, 621.0 kg, 619.4 kg, respectively, with not significantly different(P> 0.05). The daily weight gain of control was the highest followed by Tl and T2. The contents of vitamin A(retinol) and total cholesterol in the blood of Tl was higher Tl(56.32 $\ell$ / dt, 163.83 mg/ dz) than the other treatment groups(P < 0.05). The average of WBC value in the blood was 6.86-" 9.83 k / ${\mu}\ell$, RBC value was 7.98 - 11.26 k / ${\mu}\ell$ and blood platelet was 236.7 - 287.0 k / ${\mu}\ell$. But The serum profile in blood was not significantly different between control and treatment groups. The carcass grade and characteristics of all treatments in Hanwoo steers were not significantly different except the texture.
Although growth rate is one of the main economic traits of concern in pig production, there is limited knowledge on its epigenetic regulation, such as DNA methylation. In this study, we conducted methyl-CpG binding domain protein-enriched genome sequencing (MBD-seq) to compare genome-wide DNA methylation profile of small intestine and liver tissue between fast- and slow-growing weaning piglets. The genome-wide methylation pattern between the two different growing groups showed similar proportion of CpG (regions of DNA where a cytosine nucleotide occurs next to a guanine nucleotide in the linear sequence) coverage, genomic regions, and gene regions. Differentially methylated regions and genes were also identified for downstream analysis. In canonical pathway analysis using differentially methylated genes, pathways (triacylglycerol pathway, some cell cycle related pathways, and insulin receptor signaling pathway) expected to be related to growth rate were enriched in the two organ tissues. Differentially methylated genes were also organized in gene networks related to the cellular development, growth, and carbohydrate metabolism. Even though further study is required, the result of this study may contribute to the understanding of epigenetic regulation in pig growth.
Background: Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a complex genetic disease associated with growth impairment, severe obesity and metabolic dysfunctions. High proportion of PWS patients are born small for gestational age (SGA) than normal children, which also increase the risk of growth impairment and metabolic dysfunction in PWS. We aimed to compare growth outcome and metabolic profiles between SGA and appropriate for gestational age (AGA) PWS patients. Methods: Data of 55 PWS children and adults aged more than 2 years old (32 male and 23 female, age 2-18.8 years) from single center were studied. Only patients who were treated with GH were included. The clinical characteristics and laboratory findings were reviewed retrospectively. Results: Among 55 subjects, 39 had 15q11-13 deletion and 16 had uniparental disomy (UPD). Twenty (36.3%) were born SGA. All patients received GH treatment, and 11 (20%) discontinued GH treatment. Mean age at GH treatment initiation was 2.5 (range 0.3-12.4) years, and mean duration of treatment was 6.3 (range 1.0-11.3) years. Current height-SDS (-0.36 vs -0.16) and BMI-SDS (1.44 vs 1.33) did not differ between AGA and SGA group. Two patients in SGA group, but none in AGA group had diabetes mellitus. Mean glucose level was also higher in SGA group (100.1 vs 114.4 mg/dL). Conclusion: Our report gives an overview of growth profile and metabolic dysfunctions recorded in GH treated PWS patients. Growth profile did not differ between AGA and SGA group. Glucose level was higher in SGA group, so more careful monitoring and prevention for DM will be required in SGA group.
