Purpose: This paper evaluates the reliability of tapered grid couplings and presents test results through performance and life tests. Methods: The performance and life test method were presented by analyzing the failure modes for the tapered grid coupling. Zero failure test time was calculated to evaluate the reliability of tapered grid couplings and the test was performed under accelerated conditions. The nondestructive test and wear analysis using weighing were also carried out to check the failure modes of the field conditions. Conclusion: This study can be provided to improve the product reliability through failure analysis of a tapered grid coupling. The performance test results of before and after the accelerated life test were presented to confirm the improved reliability of the tapered grid coupling.
KAERI has contrived 14 kinds of spacer grid shapes of its own since 1997 and applied for Korean and US patents. To date. KAERI has obtained US and Korean patents for 6 kinds of spacer grid shapes among them. Tn this study. performance test on two spacer grid shapes that are assumed to be the most effective candidates for the spacer grid of the next generation nuclear fuel in Korea was carried Qui through the mechanical/structural test and analysis. The test result has shown thai the performances of the candidates are better or not worse than that of the current spacer grid.

Many countries are increasing their investments in smart grid technology to enhance energy efficiency, address climate change, and trigger a green energy revolution. In addition to these goals, Korea also seeks to promote national competitiveness, prepare for the growth of the renewable energy industry, and export industrialization through its strategic promotion of the smart grid. Given its inherent representativeness for Korean implementation of the smart grid and its growth potential, Jeju Island was selected by the Korean government as the site for smart grid testing in June 2009. This paper presents a new design for the electricity market and an operational scheme for testing Smart Electricity Services in the Jeju smart grid demonstration project. The Jeju smart grid test-bed electricity market is constructed on the basis of day-ahead and real-time markets to provide two-way electricity transaction environments. The experience of the test-bed market operation shows that the competitive electricity market can facilitate the smart grid deployment in Korea by allowing various demand side resources to be active market players.

Five smart grid projects was started with large scale at Jeju Island in South Korea from 2009, and smart-grid test-bed was started in Nov. 2010. The five projects are Smart Power Grid (SPG), Smart Renewable (SR), Smart Transportation (ST), Smart Place (SP) and Smart Electric Service (SES). Korea government constructed the smart grid public relations center at Nov. 2010 in Jeju Island and there will be continued the field operation and interface testing among five smart gird projects until May. 2013.
Encouragement of DER from Korean government with several policies boosts DER installation in power system. When the penetration of DER in the grid is getting high, loss of generation with break-away of DER by abnormal grid conditions should be considered, because loss of high generation causes abnormal low frequency and additional operations of protection system. Therefore, KEPCO where is Korean power utility is preparing improvement in regulations for DERs connected to the grid to support abnormal grid conditions such as low and high frequencies or voltages. This is called 'Ride Through' because the requirement is for DER to maintain grid connection during required periods when abnormal grid conditions occur. However, it is not easy to have a test for ride through capability in reality because emulation of abnormal grid conditions is not possible in real power system in operation. Also, it is not easy to have a study on grid effect when ride through capability fails with the same reason. PHILs (Power Hardware In the Loop System) makes it possible to analyze power system and hardware performance at once. Therefore, this paper introduces PHILs test methods and presents verification of ride through capability especially for low voltage grid conditions.
A prediction of store separation trajectory using grid survey method has been conducted. For the grid survey method, store's aerodynamic flowfield data such as freestream and grid data is needed to solve 6 degree of freedom(6-DOF) equations of motion. In the presented study, aerodynamic flowfield data was generated by Euler solver instead of CTS wind tunnel test. The predicted trajectories shows good agreement with CTS test results.

The increased penetration of PV is impacting on grid operation and in particular the voltage within the local grid can be significantly influenced by the various PV systems. The increased penetration of PV is impacting on grid operation and in particular the voltage within the local grid can be significantly influenced by the various PV systems. This paper describes domestic technical standard of Photovoltaic(PV) PCS(Power Conditioning Systems)- Characteristics of the utility interface. Especially protective function test items of 1) Output overvoltage protection test, 2) Output undervoltage protection test, 3) Frequency rise protection test, 4) Frequency fall protection test, 5) System voltage's momentary interruptions, 6) System voltage distortion capability test. Therefore in this paper protective function test item of facilities evaluation detailed standards for new renewable energy, small, medium and large photovoltaic inverter standard is studied and analyzed and finally full tested by PV inverter performance function.
Characterization tests (load vs. displacement curve) are conducted for the springs of Zirconium alloy spacer grids for an advanced LWR fuel assembly. Twofold testing is employed: strap-based and assembly-based tests. The assembly-based test satisfies the in situ boundary conditions of the spring within the grid assembly. The aim of the characterization test via the aforementioned two methods is to establish an appropriate assembly-based test method that fulfills the actual boundary conditions. A characterization test under the spacer grid assembly boundary condition is also conducted to investigate the actual behavior of the spring in the core. The stiffness of the characteristic curve is smaller than that of the strap-wised boundary condition. This phenomenon may cause the strap slit condition. A spacer grid consists of horizontal and vertical straps. The strap slit positions are differentiated from each other. They affords examination of the variation of the external load distribution in the grid spring. Localized legions of high stress and their values are analyzed, as they may be affected by the spring shape. Through a comparison of the results of the test and FE analysis, it is concluded that the present assembly-based analysis model and procedure are reasonably well conducted and can be used for spring characterization in the core. Guidelines for improving the mechanical integrity of the spring are also discussed.

Smart power grid is targeting to improve grid operation by integrating existing power IT technologies in the jeju smart grid field test. Real-time two-way communication and interoperability in power grid are essential to smart power grid. Adopting smart grid will increase security vulnerabilities in power grid by increasing the number of wireless sensors and the chances of the external exposure of communication networks. In addition, hackers can cause chaos in the power grid system with eavesdropping and forgery attacks in communication networks. Smart power grid is one of the most important systems in deploying smart grid, and it is important to design security system systematically since smart grid can be seriously damaged when problem occurs. In this paper, local and global smart grid security standard and security vulnerabilities in power grid are reviewed, and 2 level smart grid service model is proposed.

Since the fuel is always exposed to turbulent flow, the grid strap shows flow induced vibration characteristics that impact on the nuclear fuel soundness. The dynamic behavior of grids in nuclear fuels is quite complex, since two pairs of spring and dimple support are contacted with rods by friction in the limited space. This paper focuses on investigation of the grid strap(test fuel strap, TFS) vibration in one cell. TFS consists of a single spring and double dimples. To identify the grid strap vibration, modal analysis of the strap is performed using finite element method(FEM). Modal testing on a $5{\times}5$ grid structure without rods is performed. The modal testing results are compared to analytic results. In addition, random test considering rod effect is performed about a $5{\times}5$ grid with rods under real contact condition in the air. Finally, the strap vibration of a $5{\times}5$ fuel bundle in investigation of flow induced vibration(INFINIT) facility is measured in real fluid velocity condition without heating. It is shown that modal frequencies from the test are almost equal to those peak frequencies in the INFINIT test.
