This study demonstrates the application of hyperspectral analysis as a pigment identification method for modern and contemporary Dancheong, the polychrome surface on traditional Korean wooden buildings. In particular, green pigments are the focus of this study. Green pigments in modern and contemporary Dancheong have the largest variation of materials and show a noticeable timeline. Thus, they are most suitable for estimating the manufacture or restoration period of Dancheong. Hyperspectral analysis is a noncontact, long-distance measurement technique that has advantages in the field of Dancheong analysis. It is capable of identifying both organic and inorganic pigments, unlike existing analysis methods. For this experiment, green and other pigments used during the modern and contemporary era were selected and made into painted samples under various mixing conditions that reflect their actual uses. Through hyperspectral analysis, their reflectance characteristics were observed, which enables the derivation of four main features that can distinguish the type of pigments used for color mixture. Based on these, a pigment identification system was designed in the form of a flowchart, and its utility was confirmed through site application. Despite some limitations at this stage, the technique can be complemented by considering proper measurement methods or the continuous accumulation of samples and data. If a database on various materials, mixing ratios, painting techniques, and other external interference factors is developed in future research, it would provide the foundation for a faster and safer analysis environment of Dancheong sites.

A greening phenomenon has been observed in some plant foods such as chestnut, sweet potato, burdock, and others during processing. The formation of the pigments was postulated as reactions of primary amino compounds with chi orogenic acid or caffeic acid ester, yielding acridine derivatives. Acridine derivatives have been regarded as mutagenetic agents. For the reason, the bacterial reverse mutation test was carried out to evaluate the genotoxicity of green pigment using Salmonella typhimurium TA98 and TA100. Alanine, arginine, aspartic acid, glycine, lysine, and phenylalanine were reacted repectively with chlorogenic acid to synthesize model compound. Green pigment was extracted from sweet potato. Maximum concentration of 2 and 50 mg/plate was tested for the synthetic green pigments and extracted green pigment respectively, taking bacterial survival, solubility, and color intensity into consideration. There was no signigicant increase in the reverse mutation either with or without S9 activation system by any test material. Though further studies with other genotoxicity test system are necessary, both synthetic and sweet potato green pigments seemed not to cause mutation despite the acridine moiety in their structures.
Traditional inorganic pigments applied to dancheong, buddhist painting, and wall painting were produced from natural minerals which were later replaced by synthetic pigments, resulting in the loss of the recipe to prepare mineral pigments. This study examined the domestic occurrence and mineralogical characteristics of green and blue mineral pigments required for the conservation of cultural heritage. Cuprous green-blue mineral pigments were found as the weathering products of waste dumps and ores of abandoned Cu-Pb-Zn sulfide mines. Mineralogical analyses using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy identified diverse hydrous copper sulfate pigments of green (brochantite and devilline) and blue color (linarite, bechererite, and schulenbergite) with minor green pigments of antlerite and atacamite commonly associated with cerussite, smithsonite, anglesite, and cuprite. Noerok, a green silicate pigment, replaced the fractured basalt lava. Celadonite was responsible for the green color of Noerok, closely associated with opal in varying ratio. Glauconite, green silicate pigment, was identified in the Yellow Sea sediments. Malachite and azurite, the most important green and blue pigments of Korean cultural heritage, were not identified in this study.
In this experiment, we used different addition ratio of the pigment and straw, to improve the decorative effect of the finishing touch while finding the kinds of clay colors taking on many sophisticated images, through the comparison between the various colors and textures of the surface. (1) To test the plaster material, added were the pigment of Red, Yellow, Black, and Green by the percentages of 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, and 2.5, respectively, followed by the analysis of the color changes of the plaster material using the Photoshop (RGB). The results showed the bigger the addition ratio of the red color is, the higher the numeral values of RGB after it dried. However the brightness after drying didn't showed a big difference depending on the addition ratio. With the addition of the yellow pigment, the color difference between after and before drying was bigger in the order of Blue, Green and Red; the brightness increasingly rose while the saturation changed little. (2) When we scratched the plaster surface with U and V shape carving knives, the U knife didn't make a clean shape digging around the clay plaster material but with smooth textures, while the V knife made a clean cut, which represents its readily use in terms of the decorative function of the clay plaster. (3) In an experiment the surface texture was tested with different lengths and additions ratio of the straw, addition of 2cm straw by 1, 2, and 3% presented the most appropriate surface of the plaster.

Damaged the Jeoguibon (patterns of the Queen's ceremonial robe) was found during repair work of Daejojeon, Changdeok Palace in 2011. Analytical study on seven colors painted in the patterns has been conducted by P-XRF and Micro-XRD analysis. The result displays that red lead, ultramarine blue, conichalcite or mixed pigment of emerald green and barium white, orpiment and white lead had been used on the patterns. Comparison of the pigments used for the Pyeseulbon (patterns of the Queen's belt ornament covering knees in the front) housed in National Museum of Korea has revealed that not only red lead but also cinnabar and organic pigment had been used in the Jeoguibon and the Pyeseulbon housed in National Museum of Korea. In addition the same pigments has been examined in green and yellow parts of both the Jeoguibon in Daejojeon and the Pyeseulbon housed in National Museum of Korea. The result has shown that western's synthetic green pigment such as emerald green was introduced and used in 1920's. The scientific result from this study expects to be used as useful referencing data for the comparative understanding on pigments used in palace during the 20th century.
The Gardenia jasminoides yellow pigment and converted pigments were completely separated by Amberlite XAD-4 column chromatography. These Pigments were gel filtrated on Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography. The characteristics of absorption spectra of eluate and fractionated pigments were investigated. The pigment converted by Lactobacillus plantarum showed a single blue color with an absorption peak at 588 nm and its molecular size was bigger than that of crocetin. The pigment, converted by Staphylococcus epidermidis, Showed blue-green color, which was composed of yellow color with an absorption peak at 418 nm and blue color at 588 nm. Molecular size of the yellow pigment was smaller than crocetin and that of blue color.
Uvarovite Garnet is green pigment prepared by using $Cr_2O_3$, CaO and $SiO_2$ which are widely used in ceramic industry. The synthesis of above pigment was carried out by mixing $K_2Cr_2O_7$, $SiO_2$ and $CaCO_3$ as formulated and then firing at $1000{\sim}1200^{\circ}C$. To investigate the optimum synthesis condition of the Uvarovite Garnet. it was prepared by using CaO to replace $CaCO_3$, $CaF_2$ and $CaCl_2$. To get green brighter color, $Al^{3+}$ was substituted for $Cr^{3+}$. They were characterized by X-ray diffraction, UV-Vis spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and SEM analysis. When the pigments were applied to lime glazes (6 wt%), color parameters of Uvarovite Garnet showed the $L^*$=40.99, $a^*$=-16.23 and $b^*$=17.04.

Increasing inputs of dissolved organic matter (DOM) to northern lakes is resulting in 'lake browning.' Lake browning profoundly affects phytoplankton community composition by modifying two important environmental drivers-light and nutrients. The impact of increased DOM on native isolates of red and green-pigmented cyanobacteria identified as Pseudanabaena, which emerged from a Dolichospermum bloom (Dickson Lake, Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada) in 2015, were examined under controlled laboratory conditions. The genomes were sequenced to identify phylogenetic relatedness and physiological similarities, and the physical and chemical effects of increased DOM on cellular performance and competitiveness were assessed. Our study findings were that the isolated red and green phenotypes are two distinct species belonging to the genus Pseudanabaena; that both isolates remained physiologically unaffected when grown independently under defined DOM regimes; and that neither red nor green phenotype achieved a competitive advantage when grown together under defined DOM regimes. While photosynthetic pigment diversity among phytoplankton offers niche-differentiation opportunities, the results of this study illustrate the coexistence of two distinct photosynthetic pigment phenotypes under increasing DOM conditions.

Recently, the construction industry has seen the emergence of interior and exterior finishes using ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) and colored concrete products using precast concrete (PC). However, the excessive amount of pigment used for coloring reduces the strength of the concrete. There is a need to improve the durability and chromaticity of colored concrete, and further analytical studies on the properties of colored concrete are also required. Therefore, in this paper, colored ultra-high strength cement composites (C-UHSCC) containing red and green inorganic pigments were prepared, and the compressive strength and color of the specimens were measured according to the age, and the correlation between strength and color was analyzed by simple linear regression analysis using R2 value. The results showed that the red color was highly correlated with L* and a*, and the green color was highly correlated with a*. These results can be considered for various concrete formulations, but research is needed to suggest the optimal pigment mixing ratio for proper strength and color development.
Synthesis and characterization of pigments by using $Fe_2O_3,\;CoO,\;Cr_2O_3\;and\;MnO_2$ were undertaken. The resulting pigments were characterized by using XRD, SEM, FT-IR and UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The color of glazed tiles containing 6 wt% pigment changed from dark green to black depending on the compositions of used materials. Pigments were calcined with mixed materials at $1350^{\circ}C$, and the dark green and dark brown color were obtained. Pigments were used to determine possible interactions between a pigment and a glaze.
