  • Purpose - In spite of the growing importance of Taiwanese green industry, most of employees who work in this industry in Taiwan are dominated by males. Only a few females are working in this industry and their wage is lower. This research is applying role congruity theory which explains why females share only a small portion in Taiwan's green industry. This study addresses a research question, "How has the gender inequality and discrimination been reflected in the occupation structure of Taiwan's green industry? How has this gender occupation structure influenced females in the green industry?" Research design, data, and methodology - To find out the impact of gender role in the green industry, the dataset of the 2015 Taiwan Social Change Survey is used. Using STATA, t test has been implemented to address our research question with three hypotheses. Result -All of hypothesis were all supported. It is found there is a statistical difference in stereotypical thinking between female who work in the green industry and the non-green industry of Taiwan. The limited female representation in the green industry of Taiwan influences job matching and job satisfaction significantly. Conclusion - This study suggests the Taiwanese government should encourage STEM education for females and provide more relevant vocational education and training particularly for females' competency development in the green industry. By providing vocational education and training to meet the skill needs of greener economy resilient to climate change, Taiwan's green industry will grow further and will overcome gender inequality and discrimination.

  • The green craze has hit all the world lately. The green revolution which means immense changes for sustainable development under the new environment-economy system is foretelling that we should have new angle to the environment and economy. This paper is about the development of the model and indicators for construction of ECO(Energy Circulating Organic)-Village which is the green growth option of local community. This model is composed of three concepts - SPDC (about procedural methodology of Model), Virtuous Circle (about functional relationships of three requisites), Network (about spatial relationships between communities) - and evaluation indicators. Environment, tourism, industry (Energy & Organic Agriculture) are set as the three requisites for green growth of local community. Nations of the world plunge into the green war which is silent, general, sweeping changes. We can not win this war with the existing thinking system and policy. We need revolutionary changes reconsidering of environmental value and sustainable development strategy of the region. Each of us should go through the changes and this work would be the one among those efforts.

  • The objectives of this study are to develop a green tourism potential evaluation method with rural amenity and demand of citizen. The new index which was named GPD(green tourism potential degree) is designed to propose the green tourism potential of rural areas using spatial analysis of geographic information system and spatial interaction of gravity model. And in order to evaluate the green tourism potential with supply side and demand side, two indices were defined; One is green tourism demand degree(GDD) which is developed to quantify a demand side potential by the analysis of urban population and urbanization index, and the other is green tourism attraction degree(GAD) which is developed to quantify a supply side potential by the analysis of rural amenity values using AHP algorithm, based on opinion of related experts. The developed method was applied to a part of Kyounggi province, Seoul and Incheon. All the study area's GAD, GDD and GPD were assessed and the proposed green tourism potential evaluation method could be used in developing rural development plans and green tourism policies considering spatial interaction with citizen and green tourism resources.

  • 'Green growth' is the development strategy for the sustainable society through the harmony between the environment and economy. The 'green growth' was defined and accepted by UNESCAP and countries in Asia-Pacific region. OECD also accepted it as their new development policy. 'Green New Deal' was also proposed as a new social/economic policy to response three global crisis: environmental, resources and economic. Social and environmental sustainability are the most important principles of this policy. In Korea, however, the 'green growth' is redefined and used by the government and politicians as an economic policy to support the new technology on energy efficiency and renewable energy. In here, the definitions of green growth in the world and in Korea are analysed and compared, and new term is proposed. Green growth is the development policy to response environmental crisis (ie. climate changes) to transform the society to environmentally and socially sustainable one. The possible contribution of geomorphologic researches to green growth was also proposed.

  • The goal of this research is to develop an evaluation method applying 'Green Management Index' introduced by Korean government to assess overall Green management level of the industrial sector. The method can help to grasp the present condition of Green management in Korea and analyze changes in trend. For this research, business types are classified into 8 categories and each evaluation method is developed according to each category. Green management evaluation was conducted in 2013, targeting 513 enterprises and the result was analyzed comparing that of 2011 to understand changes in trend. The evaluation shows that 1) 'strategy and system' section is tentatively vulnerable than other sections, 2) industry with higher sensitivity towards regulations has higher score, 3) there is a significant gap conducting green management between conglomerates and SMEs especially in 'system' section. The total score was elevated by 3 points compared to 2011. It is considered that the elevation of score was attributed to tightened regulations such as Target Management Scheme. Controlled Entities scored 4 points higher and 'GHG and environmental pollution' section increased by 10 points. Also, there is a wide disparity in green management evaluation between controlled entities and non-controlled entities from 5 points in 2011 to 10 points in 2013.

  • This study suggests Compact City type urban development strategies and planning elements with the purpose of sustainable development. The suggestions are based on analysis of the development projects promoted in the cities within Green-Belt. Following are the findings of this study: First, in the late 20th century, Compact-City has been suggested as standard of sustainable urban development in the developed countries, and this promoted urban development plans were presented in detail. Second, The development plans are suggested plan elements by urban environment, space, community, and management. It was classified as an applicable element in Green belt and Compact City type. Finally, after comparing several city development projects (Gwacheon, Uiwang, Hanam), differences and Limitations between the Compact-City type urban development. Considering analysis of this study, urban development projects in Green Belt should be prepared to sustainable Compact city type urban development.

  • The green roof industry have been developed with Europe, North America, Japan. At the same time, being recognized the important of green roofs in domestic industry and we just start to develop the relative technology as analyzing the future direction of advanced technology. Recently, local self-government including Seoul support the system for green roof which provide 50% of working expenses form of Matching Fund by Seed Money. As years go by, the number of build up the green roof has gradually increased to be proved. At this result caused by management of system in government, unstructured construction system, low development of support technology. In this study as analyzing the present of technical development, supporting by law and system for the advanced waterproofing and root penetration resistance technology, we suggest the development direction of it to be compared with application advanced technology and we could strengthen the international competitiveness to be industrialized the green roof considering system, technology, human infrastructure.

  • Green Growth was declared as a national development agenda in 2008. There are many contributing concepts and factors in the process of molding the agenda, such as climate change, sustainable development, globalization, the so-called 747 campaign pledges by President Lee in 2007, and the hunger for economic growth in Asia and the Pacific. Green Growth is rather growth-oriented and pays less attention to environmental conservation and social justice. Green Development would fit better as the name of the agenda, dealing with the weaknesses of Green Growth. Climate change itself is a testing ground for geographic knowledges, whose demand is growing rapidly. The contemporary issue increasingly bears complexity that Earth System Science and Sustainability Science have emerged as a research and applications program. Geography is widely recognized as a portal to these programs, where inter- and trans-disciplinary studies are required. Regional potentials should be evaluated from a holistic view so that proper development goals are chosen. Different development trajectory should be taken, depending on the amount of potential a region bears. Material loop should be closed for environmentally sound regions. Green way of life is essential for low carbon society. In the circumstances of climate change in Korean Peninsula and needing of energy efficiency, geographic insight or imagination is urgent for Green Development.
