This study was started to study the buffer zone of Daejeon metropolitan city in order to study the policy and environment for the suitability evaluation of the use of green buffer zone. The target of the study was selected as the buffer zone of western buffer, which is frequently used in the Daejeon Metropolitan City, and a preliminary index was selected to evaluate the suitability of the green buffer zone. AHP analysis was conducted to increase the reliability of the preliminary indicators and the weight was analyzed by questionnaires to experts and practitioners. In addition, based on the existing statistical data, we rebuilt the green buffer zone and investigated the current condition, and compared and analyzed the green buffer zone and the places where they did not. The results are as follow. First, unlike the statute interpretation that construction can not be done in buffered green spaces, green buffer zones have been utilized in various ways. However, the lack of advanced citizen consciousness of the residents, the responsibility of the responsible person, and the problem of the management office alone are causing problems. Second, according to the results of AHP questionnaire analysis, functional and stability among the appropriateness indexes of green buffer zone utilization were evaluated highly. Park accessibility and utilization potential also weighed somewhat, and it was judged that the epochal trend was more important in the use of green buffer zones. Third, analysis of the status of Western green buffer zones in Daejeon showed that the utilization rate was more than half. This suggests the necessity of judging the appropriateness of the application of the green buffer zone effectively due to the change of the perception of the green buffer zone of the residents. Fourth, as a result of comparing and analyzing the site where the site is used and the site where it is not, it is found that it is used within a range that does not greatly affect each index. However, as the stability has decreased, we have decided that the utilization method is most damaging to the green zone, and we should strive to improve the stability in future. Finally, the analysis of a red clay road and a red clay road sites decreased from Class I of stability to Grade II. However, the fall figure showed a difference between the 13 % drop rate of the target location and the 5% decline rate of utilization. The difference was analyzed as the difference of width of a red clay road. This can be regarded as one of the ways of damaging the green zone to the minimum extent, which is a great advantage in selecting the future utilization plan.

The effects of a green buffer zone to protect a residential area from air pollution from industrial facilities and traffic was examined by analyzing the case of a green buffer zone in the Shiwha industrial complex. The green buffer zone is 175 m wide. The intent was to assess the dispersion patterns of atmospheric air pollutants and the reduction in concentration around the green buffer zone. To measure atmospheric sulfur dioxide$(SO_2)$ and nitrogen dioxide$(NO_2)$ concentration, badge-type passive samplers were used and set up at 76 locations in order to measure the concentration of air pollutants with respect to the spatial dispersion. The weighted mean values of $SO_2\;and\;NO_2$ concentration were $3\~57 ppb\;and\;18\~62 ppb$ and the differences among the green buffer zone, the industrial area and the residential areas were $0.7\~1.1 ppb$. Mean values of atmospheric concentrations of $NO_2$ were similar in industrial and, residential areas and the green buffer zone. Results of the study show that the effect of the green buffer zone on reducing the dispersion of air pollutants was very low. This study also recommends that micro-climate, i.e., wind direction should be considered as a factor for planning and design of green buffer zones.

The purpose of the study is to analyze the existing situation of the green buffer zone in the large scale industrial site and other major residential apartment areas. In this study, it is specifically intended that the planning guideline be upgraded to adopt future landuse trends and thus to suggest design criteria for management of the buffer zone. The framework of the analysis is to review the current landuse, noise reduction, ecological implications and landscape in general. Although the major function of a green buffer zone is considered to protect the residential area from various hazards of industrial, traffic, and visual environment, the situation is that most of the zones are maintained at a minimum level of services by local government. The study carried out intensively almost every type of case studied throughout the country, which implies that the management of the green buffer zone should be expanded physically enough to function for its original objectives. The study recommends that ecological management of the green buffer zone be emphasized and therefore the criteria for this purpose as well as noise issue should be developed prior to the landuse aspects. The study suggests specific guidelines for planning and design for the green buffer zone development. This study should be verified positively through the sustainable monitoring and requires nationwide and overall examination so that it may be applied to whole green spaces.

The purpose of this study is to find out that it can be provided as a basic data to increase the satisfaction with users in the placement and creation of the Green Buffer Zone. In this study, the research was started on the Green Buffer Zone in Gwanggyo new town, which was rebuilt as the zone to use according to the change of legal installation standard of the zone. The subject of this study is the Green Buffer Zone in Gwanggyo new town, which is expected to be completed in step 4 of 2016. As a result of analysing the location and use characteristics of the Green Buffer Zone, the following conclusions were made. First of all, it is categorized into two categories by Buffering / disaster prevention type and land to use adjustment type. Second, the buffer space of commercial space and housing is satisfying, but in commercial space, there is a need for a cushioning function and housing spaces require improvements in the functioning of the landscape. Third, the function of the Green Buffer Zone resets to cushioning function, disaster prevention function, landscape function, utilization function. and The installation criteria are proposed to environmental pollution, noise abatement, and planting trees, etc. Lastly, the future utilization plan considering the location and use characteristics of the Green Buffer Zone is as follows. In the planning stage, preference is given to the characteristics of use of arranging green facility. It is necessary to manage the planned facilities as much as possible by changing them if necessary. Construction stage, it restrictively reflects landscaping facilities within the Green Buffer Zone function. After stage, This study will prioritize the target areas and select necessary areas and need to make efforts to prevent indiscriminate greenery encroachment.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of vegetation changes and structures in the buffer green zone of Sihwa Industrial Complex and propose environmental, ecological and multi-functional vegetation management directions. The density of the Pinus thunbergii decreased from $23.1trees/100m^2$ in 2006 to $9.6trees/100m^2$ in 2017 due to the influence of thinning works. Its green volume increased from $0.97m^3/m^2$ to $2.02m^3/m^2$, contributing to the improvement of the atmospheric environment and promotion of biodiversity. The density of deciduous broad-leaved trees at the top maintained at $18{\sim}21trees/100m^2$. In the areas where the understory vegetation was removed, Pueraria lobata spread as an invasive plant and disturbed the forest. In the areas where the understory vegetation was not removed, various native plant species including the Rhus javanica and Celtis sinensis were introduced and contributed to the development of a forest in a multiple structure. There was a concern with the spread of Robinia pseudoacacia which developed into understory vegetation in Pinus thunbergii forest and some canopy forest. The study proposed vegetation management directions for the back, top and front side according to the physical structure of large-scale buffer green zone formed in a long linear form and the usage characteristics of adjacent land.
This study analysed problems of railroadside buffer green space and suggested planting methods according to space function and planting concept in seashore reclaimed land, Ansan city. Planting density of railroadside buffer green zone of Ansan city was $0.04{\sim}0.17tree/m^2$, GVZ was $0.15{\sim}1.65m^3/m^2$ which is represented of deficiency of buffer function. In addition, soil hardness of mounded buffer green zone was $2.72{\sim}15kg/cm^2$. It was examined to have functions in terms of habitat for wildbirds and other organisms, surrounding landuse, urban greens, seasonality, landscape for function improvement of buffer green space. Functions of buffer green space were re-established as habitat for organism, buffer and landscape improvement, landscape and urban park, buffer zone and habitat. It was suggested to select Pinus thunbergii as a dominated species of planting method for buffer function and planting density in canopy and under-canopy layer was $0.4tree/m^2$, $0.5/m^2$ in shrub layer. In terms of landscape improvement function, Zelkova serrata, Prunus sargentii and Prunus armeniaca were selected as major species and it in canopy and under-canopy layer was $0.2tree/m^2$ and $0.5tree/m^2$ in shrub layer. In terms of habitat function Quercus acutissima, Prunus sargentii and Sorbus alnifolia were as major species and it in canopy layer was $0.06tree/m^2$, $0.1tree/m^2$ in under canopy layer, $0.8tree/m^2$ in shrub layer.

Buffer zones, an example of nature-based solutions, offer wide range of environmental, social and economic benefits due to their multifunctionality when applied to watershed areas promoting blue-green connectivity. This study evaluated the effects of buffer zone application to the water quality of Yongdam reservoir tributaries. Particularly, the challenges and improvement of the buffer zone design were identified and suggested, respectively. Water and soil samples were collected from a total of six sites in Yongdam reservoir from September 2021 to April 2022. Water quality analyses revealed that among the sites monitored, downstream of Sangjeonmyeon Galhyeonri (SG_W_D2) was found to have the highest concentration for water quality parameters turbidity, total suspended solids (TSS), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total phosphorus (TP) and total nitrogen (TN). This finding was attributed to the algal bloom observed during the sampling conducted in September and October 2021. It was found through the soil analyses that high TN and TP concentrations were also observed in all the agricultural land uses implying that nutrient accumulation in agricultural areas are high. Highest TN concentration was found in the agricultural area of Jeongcheonmyeon Wolpyeongri (JW_S_A) followed by Jucheonmyeon Sinyangri (JS_S_A) while the lowest TN concentration was found in the original soil of Sangjeonmyeon Galhyeonri (SG_S_O). Among the types of buffer zones identified in this study, Type II-A, Type II-B and Type III were found to have blue-green connectivity. However, initially, blue-green connectivity in these buffer zone types were not considered leading to poor design and poor performance. As such, improvement in the design considering blue-green network and renovation must be considered to optimize the performance of these buffer zones. The findings in this study is useful for designing buffer zones in the future.

This study was aimed to propose the plan of creating a biotope reflecting an ecological education as well as its function as the habitats of amphibian in Namsan Urban Natural Park in Seoul. There were Cheonil mineral spring area which was located on the southern side of Namsan, wetlands which was already created on the east valley(800$m^2$) and a buffer area of the circumference(1,100$m^2$) as the biotope sites. Major fields of this study include a survey of the staus, a basic plan, a master plan; a survey of this site was focused on topography, water system, existing vegetation, wildbird, amphibian, trail; a detailed plan was focused on flow plan, planting plan, facility plan. Existing vegetation was classified into 8 types; Pinus densiflora forest, Pinus densiflora planted area, Prunus sargentii-Quercus spp. forest, Pinus rigida forest, Robinia pseudoacacia forest, artificial green space, wetlands, south beltway. There were Pinus densiflora planted area and Prunus sargentii-Quercus spp. forest as major vegetations of this site. 14 species and 33 individuals of wildbirds appeared, Rana temporaria ornativentris and Hynobius leechi were investigated in the wetlands.In particular, habitats of amphibian were divided eco-zone, buffer-zone and restore-zone, and habitats and facilities which would be suitable for the characteristics of each space were planned. As a result, environment elements of good habitats including spawn wetlands of amphibian, harbor of amphibian, water plant of wetland, wild shrubs forest, ecological landscape forest, wetland observation trail, fence of wetland protection and ramp by pebble and log were created at the site. The amphibian biotope of Namsan is rated high as an important space for conserving biodiversity. Accordingly, continuous monitoring of this biotope as a urban habitat is required as the environment changes.
This study was carried out to suggest the basic data of planting method for construction of buffer green space based on the land use in case of reclaimed land by analyzing land structure, planting concept, and planting structure in buffer green space, Rokko Island, Kobe, Japan. Rokko Island(total area: 580ha) is divided into port and logistics industry area and urban area by constructing the box type large-scale buffer green space. The land structure of buffer green space were biased mounding type, parallel mounding type, and complex mounding type. The width of buffer green space was 50meters in case of northern area, from 28 to 32meters in case of eastern area, and 37.5meters in case of western area, and the slope of that was from 18 to 25 degrees and the height of that was from 2 to 15meters. There were applied landscape and buffer planting concept on the sea side area of northern buffer green space, on the other hand landscape and shade planting concept on the Inner city side area of that. According to the result of planting structure analysis of northern buffer green space, the main woody species were those of deciduous-evergreen species grow in warm-temperate forest zone such as Quercus glauca, Cinnamomum camphora, Machilus thunbergii, Elaeagnus maritima. The results of maximum number of species and planting density by $100mm^2$ was that 9 species 22 individuals in canopy layer, 9 species 15 individuals in understory layer, 3 species 67 individuals in shrub layer, and 14 species 104 individuals in total. The plant coverage of northern buffer green space based on the ecological planting method was from 69 to 139% in case of canopy layer, from 26 to 38% in case of understory layer, from 6 to 7% in case of shrub layer, and from 101 to 184% in total. Index of plant crown volume of northern buffer green space based on the ecological planting method was from 1.40 to $3.12m^3/m^2$ in case of canopy layer, from 0.43 to $0.55m^3/m^2$ in case of understory layer, $0.06m^3/m^2$ in case of shrub layer, and from 1.89 to $3.73m^3/m^2$ in total.

The Haidian Garden of Zhongguancun Science and Technology Zone is an area with high intellectual intensity. It is therefore known as China's Silicon Valley. The Summer Palace, a World Heritage Site, sits in the northwest part of it. 250 years ago, the construction of imperial gardens in this area, including the Summer Palace, gave birth to the appearance and prosperity of the town of Haidian. This will also provide various opportunities for the growth of the science and technology. Today the green space, the cultural and ecological environment of the Summer Palace, and its 3-kilometer buffer zone are becoming one important strategic factor for the Haidian Garden to attract talents, improve international competitiveness and realize sustainable development.
