An accurate method of density measurement is proposed. The method makes use of a gravimetric adsorption apparatus and is quite suitable for powdery and porous solid samples. The sample volume is determined by measuring its buoyancy with microbalance and the mass is measured in vacuum in the absence of buoyancy effect. Densities of inorganic compounds, such as alumina and perovskite, and some organic compounds are determined with the proposed method, and the results are compared with the values either determined with conventional methods or obtained from literatures.

A study is presented of the adsorption capacity of a number of different activated carbons for hydrogen at 100 bar aad 298 K. The hydrogen adsorption isotherm was measured by isothermal gravimetric analysis, using a microbalance. The effect of activated carbon's porosity on hydrogen adsorption capacity is surveyed. It is concluded that hydrogen adsorption capacity of activated carbon is lineally increased according to the increase of specific surface area and total pore volume, It seems that microporosity is more contributive than mesoporosity. Most of the adsorbed quantity is due to physical adsorption and chemisorption is negligible, In this work, 0.79 wt.% of hydrogen adsorption capacity is reached.
Resins were synthesized by mixing N-phenylaza-15-crown-5 macrocyclic ligand attached to styrene (2th petroleum in 4th class hazardous materials) divinylbenzene (DVB) copolymer with crosslink of 1%, 2%, 6%, and 12% by substitution reaction. The synthesis of these resins was confirmed by content of chlorine, element analysis, thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), surface area, and IR-spectroscopy. The effects of pH, equilibrium arrival time, dielectric constant of solvent and crosslink on adsorption of metal ions by the synthetic resin adsorbent were investigated. The metal ions were showed fast adsorption on the resins above pH 4. The optimum equilibrium time for adsorption of metallic ions was about two hours. The adsorption selectivity determined in ethanol was in increasing order uranium (VI) > zinc (II) > europium (III) ions. The uranium ion adsorbed in the order of 1%, 2%, 6%, and 12% crosslink resin and adsorption of resin decreased in proportion to the order of dielectric constant of solvents.
In this study, propylene/propane separation behavior of Na-type faujasite zeolite membranes is predicted by observing gravimetric adsorptions of propylene and propane on zeolite 13X. The gravimetric adsorptions were measured by using a magnetic suspension balance (MSB) at temperatures of 323, 343, 363 K and a pressure range of 0.02-1 bar. The pressure was increased at 0.1 bar intervals. As adsorption temperature increased, adsorptions of propylene and propane decreased and propylene/propane adsorption selectivity increased. Also, the diffusion coefficients of propylene and propane were increased as the adsorption temperature increased, following the Arrhenius equation. The maximum propylene/propane diffusion selectivity was 0.9753 at 323 K. The perm-selectivity was calculated from the adsorption data of zeolite 13X and compared with the perm-selectivity measured in the single gas permeation experiment for the Na-type faujasite zeolite membrane. The maximum values for the calculated and measured perm-selectivities were observed at a temperature of 323 K. It could be concluded that the prediction of propylene/propane separation of surface diffusion-based membrane by using gravimetric adsorption data is reasonable. Therefore, it is expected that this prediction method can be applied to the screening of adsorption-based microporous membrane for propylene/propane separation.
Multilayer adsorption isotherms of nitrogen on hexagonal boron nitride, ${\gamma}$-alumina, and silica-gel powders are determined at the liquid nitrogen temperature using a gravimetric adsorption apparatus. The volume (V) of the adsorbed gas are plotted against the statistical thickness(t) of the adsorbed layer, and the t-method area are calculated from the slope of these V-t plots to compare with the BET area. A number of universal adsorption isotherms and the Frenkel-Halsey-Hill equation are used one after another in calculating the statistical thickness. The appropriateness of the FHH equation as an universal adsorption isotherm is discussed finally.

Metal-carbon nanoreactors (MCNRs) were prepared from a pristine carbon cage (CC) using a simple and efficient template method with nano silica ball (NSB), pyrolysis fuel oil (PFO) and transition metals, such as palladium and gold. Metal nanoparticles were embedded in approximately 25 and 170 nm sized, highly ordered carbon cages. The newly developed Pd, Au and Au-Pd doped carbon nanoreactors were characterized by microanalysis, $N_2$ adsorption-desorption isotherm, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), transmission electron microscopy and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) analysis. The ordered MCNRs have exhibited dynamic hydrogen adsorption capability compared to the carbon cage.
Multilayer adsorption isotherms of nitrogen and argon on the perovskite-type mixed oxides, synthesized by a citrate coprecipitation method, are determined at the liquid nitrogen temperature using a gravimetric adsorption apparatus. The volume of the adsorbed gas are plotted against the statistical thickness of the adsorbed layer, calculated from several universal adsorption isotherms one after another. The t-method area obtained from this plot is compared with the BET area and finally the appropriateness of universal adsorption isotherms is then discussed on the basis of the plot.

Due to continuous promotion of green alternatives to toxic petrochemicals by government policies, research efforts towards the development of green corrosion inhibitors have intensified recently. The objective of the current work was to develop novel green and sustainable corrosion inhibitors derived from 4-aminoantipyrine to effectively prevent corrosion of mild steel in corrosive environments. Gravimetric methods were used to investigate corrosion inhibition of 4-((furan-2-ylmethylene)amino)antipyrine (FAP) and 4-((pyridin-2-ylmethylene)amino)antipyrine (PAP) for mild steel in 1 M HCl. FAP and PAP were subjected to quantum chemical calculations using density functional theory (DFT). DFT was used to determine the mechanism of mild steel corrosion inhibition using inhibitors tested in HCl. Results demonstrated that these tested inhibitors could effectively inhibit mild steel corrosion in 1.0 M HCl. At 0.0005 M, these inhibitors' efficiencies for FAP and PAP were 93.3% and 96.5%, respectively. The Langmuir adsorption isotherm was obeyed by these inhibitors on the mild steel surface. Values of adsorption free energies, ΔGoads, revealed that FAP followed chemical and physical adsorptions.
The corrosion inhibition of imatinib mesylate (IMT) on mild steel in 0.25 M sulphuric acid has been studied using gravimetric and potentiodynamic polarization techniques at various concentrations of inhibitor, temperature and fluid velocities. The results obtained showed that, inhibition efficiency (% IE) increases with increasing concentration of the inhibitor. The adsorption process on mild steel surface follows Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The values of Gibbs free energies of adsorption obtained suggest that, the adsorption process of IMT on mild steel is chemisorption. Thermodynamic parameters were evaluated and discussed. The electron orbital density distribution of HOMO and LUMO of IMT was used to discuss the inhibition mechanism. FT-IR spectroscopy and SEM images were used to analyze the surface adsorbed film.
