In a situation where competition becomes intense, health care organizations constantly strive to provide more services with given personnel and time. While not only the 'quantity' of the services but also the 'quality' becomes increasingly important, various problems that can occur during the 'process' of service provision can be effectively managed by applying the methods of management science. In this study, we introduce the cases where the methods of management science can be applied for the management of health care organizations in Korea and abroad. There are many cases where various scenarios for improving the patients' accessibility to the services and for maximizing the efficient use of limited resources are established, and simulation or basic statistical analysis methods are used to solve the problems more systematically or to develop improvement plans. In this study, several exemplary cases, such as no-show of patients, crowding in the emergency room, prediction of the number of available beds in the intensive care units, nurse scheduling, delay of arrival of patients, and ordering of the proper amount of therapeutic materials, are introduced and discussed. From the perspective of administrators or clinicians, however, it may not be easy to master the methodology that requires considerable mathematical background or apply the theories to practice directly. Therefore, it is suggested that more practical and relatively simple analytical methods should be applied. Also, having a more positive attitude toward improving the current performance (e.g., a belief that 'we can always be better than now'), and paying attention to improving the job satisfaction by addressing problems, with experimental spirit and data-driven decision management.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate nurses readiness to self-directed learning and its correlations with nursing practice competence in a tertiary hospital in Seoul, Korea. Methods: A cross sectional survey design was utilized to assess nurses readiness to self-directed learning and job performance. The data used in this study were obtained from 286 nurses who have been working on general ward for over 1 year. Data were analyzed by ANOVA, t-test, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression using SAS 9.1 program. Results: The mean score of the readiness to self-directed learning is 3.56 and that of nursing practice competence is 2.71. The readiness to self-directed learning was statistically different according to level of education, and clinical work experience. Nursing practice competence was also significantly different according to level of education, clinical work experience, marital status, age, and working division. The readiness to self-directed learning and nursing practice competence seem to have significant positive correlation to each other (r=.555, p<.001). The readiness to self-directed learning explains 32.0% of nursing practice competence (F=20.20, p<.001). Conclusion: These findings indicate that program development for enhancing the readiness to self-directed learning is needed to improve nursing practice competence. We also need continuous efforts to improve nurses initiatives and creativity.

The purpose of this study is to identify increasing needs for training students as managers in social service agencies and to suggest ways to develop the education of social welfare administration. Agency evaluations and performance management has increased demands for effectiveness and accountability of social service agencies, which also has increased the roles of managers in social service agencies. Using 'Korean Social Worker Survey' conducted by Korean Association of Social Workers, this study examines job characteristics of 2,479 social workers. The results show that administration/management activities take about 40% of social workers' daily activities. Community organization, human resource management, and planning/financial management are regarded as more important and difficult than other tasks. However, sufficient education for preparing students as social service managers is not provided in undergraduate and graduate level of college education. In addition, social workers make their life long careers as managers. Thus, the education of social welfare administration needs to refocus on the provision of knowledge and skills required for competent social service managers. This study suggests future directions for developing education of social welfare administration in undergraduate and graduate level of college education including field practice.
This paper proposes a reconfigurable scheduler model that can support various real-time scheduling algorithms. The proposed model consists of two hierarchical upper and lower components, task scheduler and scheduling framework, respectively. The scheduling framework provides a job dispatcher and software timers. The task scheduler implements an appropriate scheduling algorithm, which supports a specific real-time application, based on the scheduling framework. If system developers observe internal kernel interfaces to communicate between two hierarchical components, they can implement a new scheduling algorithm independent of complex low kernel mechanism. Once a task scheduler is developed, it can be reused in a new real-time system in future. In Real-Time Linux (5), we implemented the proposed scheduling framework and several representative real-time scheduling algorithms. Throughout these implementations, we confirmed that a new scheduling algorithm could be developed independently without updates of complex low kernel modules. In order to confirm efficiency of the proposed model, we measured the performance of representative task schedulers. The results showed that the scheduling overhead of proposed model, which has two separated components, is similar to that of a classic monolithic kernel scheduler.

Objectives: This study aims to identify dentists' opinions about the return to work of the dental hygienists with career interrupted. Convenience sampling was made of 22 dentists with the clinical experience (about 0.25%) of the 4,944 members of Gyeonggi-do Dental Association. Data were collected through an electronic survey using e-mails and telephone interviews and analyzed using the constant comparison method. Methods: Open coding was assigned to the initial data from the survey in an explicit language, and focusing on the types of their employment, working conditions, etc. Summarization and conceptualization were made of the second data in an implicit language. Results: Most of the dentists were found to have positive attitudes toward the return to work of career interrupted dental hygienists and hope to adjust their wages based on their job performance or after their probational period expires. Most of the dentists were found to have positive attitudes towards the hygienists' flexible working although their concerns about work efficiency and hospital atmosphere. This study is a qualitative study that describes dentists' opinions and presents the need for the career interrupted dental hygienists to return to work. Conclusions: The study proposed that the educational institutions should take into account the hygienists' opinions when implementing the programs for promoting their return to work and their evaluative studies.
This study was conducted to find out the effect of the role of a mentor on work outcomes and job satisfaction among the cooks working at five star hotels in Busan and Ulsan areas. 192 samples were obtained and analyzed using a social science statistics program SPSS/PC + for Window 12.0 along with frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis and regression analysis. The results of the analyses are as follows. First, experience and skills helped develop a bond of sympathy and cooperative relationships between a mentor and a mentee enabling them to achieve the organization's goal and provide high quality services. Second, the work execution and protective function of a mentor can create active planning and acting by helping individuals to improve for the future and giving them opportunities for professional works. Third, the psychological and social function of a mentor can create a bond of sympathy through personal contact, maintain smooth relationships in an organization and affect satisfaction in the working environment. Therefore, a mentor can have positive effects on work outcomes and satisfaction among cooks and also improve them. In this respect, through various efforts to institutionalize and activate the current nonofficial mentoring system into an official one, it should be used as a way of improving business performance and competitiveness.

Micro and small enterprises are businesses that absorb the most labor in Korea. The position of micro and small enterprises in the national economy has an important and strategic role because micro and small enterprises are quite dominant in the Korea economy. The purpose of this study is to look at the effect of the CEO' business experience, competency(job competency, money competency, digital competency), government support service(government support satisfaction, education support) on the performance. For this study, data was collected from 220 CEO by using questionnaires. The statistics analysis SPSS 24.0 was used, it is a factor analysis, reliability test and multiple regression analysis for hypothesis verification. The research results are as follows. First, as a result of examining the effect of the CEO competency on the performance, it was found that among the competency factors, money competency and digital competency had a significantly positive (+) effect on the performance. Second, as a result of examining the effect of government support service on the performance, government support satisfaction, education support had a positive (+) effect on the performance. Thirdly, in the relationship between CEO' business experience, competency, government support service and performance, the mediating effect of self efficiency was significant money competency→self efficiency→performance, digital competency→self efficiency→performance.

Uganda is a country blessed with the biggest number of mountain Gorillas in the whole world. These animals contribute at least 12% in revenue generation to the Tourism sector through tracking by both local and foreign tourists who pay for the tracking permits. However, Gorilla tracking is also a big challenge even in the presence of highly skilled and well-trained game rangers. Development and implementation of a secure Computer and Mobile based Gorilla Tracking (GT) system that uses GIS and GPS technologies would be the most ideal technology to use. Therefore, this study aimed to find out the critical factors that would affect the Behavioral Intention of the would-be users to successfully decide to use such GIS/GPS-GT system. We used the existing UTAUT model to integrate six factors such as Performance Expectancy, Effort Expectancy, Employee Peer Influence, Facilitating Conditions, Behavioral Intention and System Use. However, Infrastructure Availability and Non-Technical Facilitating Conditions were added to reflect Ugandan ICT context. This amended UTAUT model was used to carry out the survey. The questionnaire was emailed to 220 government employees in the fields of ICT, Tour and Travel, Environmental Groups officials and Farmers who garden near the game reserves. A total of 133 were obtained fully completed, whereas 127 were deemed usable thus yielding a response rate of 58%. The analysis results show that except for non-technical facilitating conditions, effort expectancy, peer influence, performance expectancy and infrastructure availability positively affects behavioral Intention to use GIS/GPS-GT. This indicates that people in Uganda don't bother about regulations and rules in regard to using information system. As long as the system does what they want it to, anything else does not matter. As an employee in an organization is told to use a system by their supervisor, they have no objection to otherwise they risk losing their job. This implies that, supervisors have a great responsibility in the process of developing, implementing and using the system in Uganda.
The primary goal of this study is to develop proper indicators for evaluating and selecting an organization that contributes product safety in his industry. The indicators of product safety include input, process, and output in the sequences of product safety activities and systems. The indicators are proposed by the side of measurable and unmeasurable index. In detail, the indicators are consist of 3 parts - product safe management, efforts for product safety and the performance of product safety. The indicators are itemized by size of enterprise (large, medium and small size) due to the difference of their system and management capability of product safety. To get the indicators reasonably, the opinions of experts and VOC of the industrial field are considered. And the indicators are also divided by job position and level(an executive vs. worker). The items of indicators are 20 and the score is 200, that are the same whichever the case may be. The indicators are useful tools for selecting a person who serves the development of product safety in his industry.

Purpose: The study analyzed continuing educational needs with the aim of developing continuing education program for home healthcare nurse specialists. Methods: A convenience sample of 101 home healthcare nurse specialists affiliated with 89 home health care agencies in Seoul, Busan, Dae-gu, Inchon, Jeonnam, Keongnam was used. Data was collected with a self-report questionnaire from May 10-31, 2010, and analyzed with descriptive statistics using SAS 9.13 program. Results: Of the participants, 88.1% reported that continuing education was necessary and 58.2% reported that the education was needed for peak job performance. The participants also reported that it would be proper if continuing education is given on a Saturday(56.4%) by home healthcare institute(49.5%) or homecare nurses association (38.6%) for 1-3 months(56.4%). The participants scored more than 3.0 in the current performance at six of the seven home healthcare nurse specialist roles, and scored more than 3.5 in the necessity of continuing education for seven roles in 47 jobs. Conclusion: Various programs for continuing education have to be developed and need to focused on the jobs needed for home healthcare nurse specialist and the most frequent disease. For this purpose, every home healthcare organization has to select their unique area and develop their own educational program. Furthemore, home healthcare nurses association has to build an education operating system that incorporates all program aspects.
