The objective of this article is investigation of dynamic response of thick multilayer functionally graded (FG) beam under generalized dynamic forces. The plane stress problem is exploited to describe the constitutive equation of thick FG beam to get realistic and accurate response. Applied dynamic forces are assumed to be sinusoidal harmonic, sinusoidal pulse or triangle in time domain and point load. Equations of motion of deep FG beam are derived based on the Hamilton principle from kinematic relations and constitutive equations of plane stress problem. The numerical finite element procedure is adopted to discretize the space domain of structure and transform partial differential equations of motion to ordinary differential equations in time domain. Numerical time integration method is used to solve the system of equations in time domain and find the time responses. Numerical parametric studies are performed to illustrate effects of force type, graduation parameter, geometrical and stacking sequence of layers on the time response of deep multilayer FG beams.
Forced vibration analysis of a cracked functionally graded microbeam is investigated by using modified couple stress theory with damping effect. Mechanical properties of the functionally graded beam change vary along the thickness direction. The crack is modelled with a rotational spring. The Kelvin-Voigt model is considered in the damping effect. In solution of the dynamic problem, finite element method is used within Timoshenko beam theory in the time domain. Influences of the geometry and material parameters on forced vibration responses of cracked functionally graded microbeams are presented.
This study shows functionally graded material structural topology optimization under buckling constraints. The SIMP (Solid Isotropic Material with Penalization) material model is used and a method of moving asymptotes is also employed to update topology design variables. In this study, the quadrilateral element is applied to compute buckling load factors. Instead of artificial density properties, functionally graded materials are newly assigned to distribute optimal topology materials depending on the buckling load factors in a given design domain. Buckling load factor formulations are derived and confirmed by the resistance of functionally graded material properties. However, buckling constraints for functionally graded material topology optimization have not been dealt with in single material. Therefore, this study aims to find the minimum compliance topology optimization and the buckling load factor in designing the structures under buckling constraints and generate the functionally graded material distribution with asymmetric stiffness properties that minimize the compliance. Numerical examples verify the superiority and reliability of the present method.
Let D be an integral domain with quotient field K, X be an indeterminate over D, K[X] be the polynomial ring over K, and $R=\{f{\in}K[X]{\mid}f(0){\in}D\}$; so R is a subring of K[X] containing D[X]. For $f=a_0+a_1X+{\cdots}+a_nX^n{\in}R$, let C(f) be the ideal of R generated by $a_0$, $a_1X$, ${\ldots}$, $a_nX^n$ and $N(H)=\{g{\in}R{\mid}C(g)_{\upsilon}=R\}$. In this paper, we study two rings $R_{N(H)}$ and $Kr(R,{\upsilon})=\{{\frac{f}{g}}{\mid}f,g{\in}R,\;g{\neq}0,{\text{ and }}C(f){\subseteq}C(g)_{\upsilon}\}$. We then use these two rings to give some examples which show that the results of [4] are the best generalizations of Nagata rings and Kronecker function rings to graded integral domains.
In this paper, the effect of material-temperature dependent on the wave propagation of a cantilever beam composed of functionally graded material (FGM) under the effect of an impact force is investigated. The beam is excited by a transverse triangular force impulse modulated by a harmonic motion. Material properties of the beam are temperature-dependent and change in the thickness direction. The Kelvin-Voigt model for the material of the beam is used. The considered problem is investigated within the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory by using energy based finite element method. The system of equations of motion is derived by using Lagrange's equations. The obtained system of linear differential equations is reduced to a linear algebraic equation system and solved in the time domain and frequency domain by using Newmark average acceleration method. In order to establish the accuracy of the present formulation and results, the comparison study is performed with the published results available in the literature. Good agreement is observed. In the study, the effects of material distributions and temperature rising on the wave propagation of the FGM beam are investigated in detail.

This paper concerns with forced dynamic response of thick functionally graded (FG) beam resting on viscoelastic foundation including porosity impacts. The dynamic point load is proposed to be triangle point loads in time domain. In current analysis the beam is assumed to be thick, therefore, the two-dimensional plane stress constitutive equation is proposed to govern the stress-strain relationship through the thickness. The porosity and void included in constituent is described by three different distribution models through the beam thickness. The governing equations are obtained by using Lagrange's equations and solved by finite element method. In frame of finite element analysis, twelve-node 2D plane element is exploited to discretize the space domain of beam. In the solution of the dynamic problem, Newmark average acceleration method is used. In the numerical results, effects of porosity coefficient, porosity distribution and foundation parameters on the dynamic responses of functionally graded viscoelastic beam are presented and discussed. The current model is efficient in many applications used porous FGM, such as aerospace, nuclear, power plane sheller, and marine structures.
Since the functionally graded materials (FGMs) are used extensively as thermal barriers in many of applications. Therefore, the current article focuses on studying and presenting dynamic responses of multilayer functionally graded (FG) deep beams placed in a thermal environment that is not addressed elsewhere. The material properties of each layer are proposed to be temperature-dependent and vary continuously through the height direction based on the Power-Law function. The deep layered beam is exposed to harmonic sinusoidal load and temperature rising. In the modelling of the multilayered FG deep beam, the two-dimensional (2D) plane stress continuum model is used. Equations of motion of deep composite beam with the associated boundary conditions are presented. In the frame of finite element method (FEM), the 2D twelve-node plane element is exploited to discretize the space domain through the length-thickness plane of the beam. In the solution of the dynamic problem, Newmark average acceleration method is used to solve the time domain incrementally. The developed procedure is verified and compared, and an excellent agreement is observed. In numerical examples, effects of graduation parameter, geometrical dimension and stacking sequence of layers on the time response of deep multilayer FG beams are investigated with temperature effects.
In this work, transient thermo-piezo-elastic responses of an infinite functionally graded piezoelectric (FGPE) plate whose upper surface suffers time-dependent thermal shock are investigated in the context of different thermo-piezo-elastic theories. The thermal and mechanical properties of functionally graded piezoelectric plate under consideration are expressed as power functions of plate thickness variable. The solution of problem is obtained by solving the corresponding finite element governing equations in time domain directly. Transient thermo-piezo-elastic responses of the FGPE plate, including temperature, stress, displacement, electric intensity and electric potential are presented graphically and analyzed carefully to show multi-field coupling behaviors between them. In addition, the effects of functionally graded parameters on transient thermo-piezo-elastic responses are also investigated to provide a theoretical basis for the application of the FGPE materials.
This paper proposes an efficient approach for the structural topology optimization of bi-directional functionally graded structures by incorporating popular radial basis functions (RBFs) into an implicit level set (ILS) method. Compared to traditional element density-based methods, a level set (LS) description of material boundaries produces a smoother boundary description of the design. The paper develops RBF implicit modeling with multiquadric (MQ) splines, thin-plate spline (TPS), exponential spline (ES), and Gaussians (GS) to define the ILS function with high accuracy and smoothness. The optimization problem is formulated by considering RBF-based nodal densities as design variables and minimizing the compliance objective function. A LS-RBF optimization method is proposed to transform a Hamilton-Jacobi partial differential equation (PDE) into a system of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) over the entire design domain using a collocation formulation of the method of lines design variables. The paper presents detailed mathematical expressions for BiDFG beams topology optimization with two different material models: continuum functionally graded (CFG) and mechanical functionally graded (MFG). Several numerical examples are presented to verify the method's efficiency, reliability, and success in accuracy, convergence speed, and insensitivity to initial designs in the topology optimization of two-dimensional (2D) structures. Overall, the paper presents a novel and efficient approach to topology optimization that can handle bi-directional functionally graded structures with complex geometries.
Effects of temperature dependent material properties on mixed mode fracture parameters of functionally graded materials subjected to thermal loading are investigated. A domain form of the $J_k$-integral method including temperature-dependent material properties and its numerical implementation using finite element analysis is presented. Temperature and displacement fields are calculated using finite element analysis and are used to compute mixed mode stress intensity factors using the $J_k$-integral. Numerical results indicate that temperature-dependency of material properties has considerable effect on the mixed-mode stress intensity factors of cracked functionally graded structures.
