  • This experimental study was to determine the fitness on each cervical margin of recast using crown base metal alloy. The alloy used in this experimental study was a Ni-Cr alloy(Wirolloy, Bego, Germany) for the fabrication of full cast crown prosthesis. Twenty-five copings were divided into the five groups. And the group A, B, C, D and E were cording successively according to the frequency of recast to five times. Each specimen was recasted without adding new metal. The experimental results were as follows: 1. The group A and B showed good fitness had subtle differences in each cervical margin adaptation, in other words, the mesio and disto cervical margin showed worse adaptation than the bucco and linguo cervical margin. 2. The group C got good fitness in bucco and linguo cervical margins, but the mesio and disto cervical margin showed inaccurate fitness. And I could not get good casting bodies without adding new metal. 3. The group D and E showed bad fitness for each cervical margin. Therefore the group D and E lost its function as a dental restoration.

  • Objective: Osseointegration is essential process for successful implants and effects to implant in long term, therefore, passive fitness of good prosthesis is necessary. To make a good prosthesis, at first it should be done a sectioned casting and then joined method of sectioned casting body is recommended. Methods: In this study, to provide the fundamental data on stable connection method for successful implants, the author tested fitness of casting body, and compared difference between gas soldering technique and laser welding technique. Results: In fitness test of 2 abutment (test A, C), gas soldering group's fitness in the opposite part of connection was worse than laser welding group. In fitness test of 3 abutment (test B, D), gap distance was increased both in gas soldering technique and laser welding technique. Gap distance at the connecting part and the opposite part of the abutment in gas soldering technique was worse than laser welding technique and the more additional abutment, the worse gap distance in gas soldering technique. In fitness test of 3 abutment (test B, D), there's little variation in No. 2 abutment when connecting soldering process was done and there's little influence on already soldered connection part when the additional soldering connection was done. Conclusion: On weak loading condition and the part which is needed an accuracy, laser welding technique is more effective and on long-span prosthesis and frequent chewing loading part, laser welding technique is recommended first and applying additional gas soldering technique would be better for making much more successful prosthesis.

  • Background: A decrease in physical fitness with age can impact work ability. Exploring the role of physical fitness is important for identifying interventions to enhance work ability among aging workers. We sought to determine the association between physical fitness and physically demanding work ability in aging workers. Methods: We recruited workers aged 45-65 years from eight departments of a university hospital in Bangkok, Thailand. Work ability was assessed using the work ability index (WAI), and physical fitness components were evaluated through various tests. Associations between work ability and physical fitness were examined using a multivariable regression analysis. Results: The response rate was 46.4% (n = 216). The mean WAI score was 41.6. Participants with an overweight or obese body mass index (BMI) had 1.8 (95% CI -3.1, -0.4) points lower WAI scores than did those within a healthy BMI range. A handgrip strength test revealed that participants in the good/very good group had 2.5 (95% CI: 0.6, 4.3) higher WAI scores than did those in the very poor/poor group. For a single-leg stance test, participants in the above-average group had 2.1 (95% CI: 0.7, 3.5) points greater WAI scores than did those in the below-average group. No significant associations were found between work ability and 3-min step, chair stand, or sit-and-reach test scores. Conclusion: The overall work ability of the participants was good. Body composition, muscle strength, and balance were associated with work ability. Promoting physical fitness is a viable strategy for enhancing work ability among aging workers.

  • Since the non-metric Multidimensional scaling (nMDS), a data visualization technique, provides with insights about engineering, economic, and scientific applications, it is widely used for analyzing large non-metric multidimensional data sets. The nMDS requires a fitness function to measure fit of the proximity data by the distances among n objects. Most commonly used fitness functions are nonlinear and have a difficulty to find a good configuration. In this paper, we propose a new fitness function, an absolute value type, and show its advantages.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the physical fitness status and health promoting life styles of the workers. For the purpose, 108 workers who attended the exercise program in Inchon branch of KISCO were selected as the subjects. From Oct. 20th to Nov. 30th, in 1998, they were firstly assessed their physical fitness. The items include cardio-respiratory endurance, flexibility, muscular strength, muscular endurance, agility, power, balance, body composition, etc. Secondly, the health promoting life styles were asked by questionnaires about daily life and dietary habits. Both of them were evaluated by 5 or 3 levels as A(very good) to E(very poor) or A (good) to C(poor). Those data were analyzed percentile, mean, standard deviation by SAS program. Major findings are as follows ; 1. The health promoting life styles were generally good, but 43.5% of the subjects didn't exercise at all. Most of them(93.5%) thought about their physical fitness status as lower than average level. About half of them(48.1%) didn't drink alcohol, non smokers were 70.4% of them. But they had poor dietary habits(lower than average level : 79.6%), females were a little bit better than males. The aged group had the poor body compositions, 21.4% of females and 10.0% of males were obese. 2. Physical fitness status of the workers were assessed as two areas, one is health related, the other is physical function related area. In the health related area, females were better than males, in view of age, forties aged group had the highest scores of all items except cardio-respiratory endurance. Among 'A' and 'B' level, muscular endurance was showed most frequently, followed by muscular strength, flexibility, cardiorespiratory endurance. In physical function related status, balance was ranked highly in the portion of over 'B', followed by power, agility. In view of sex, males were better than females for all items except balance, and there were various figures in the status by age groups. 3. Comprehensive assessment scores were poor(under 'D' leves were most frequent), females were better than males, and teenage group had the worst scores. In ages of the physical fitness, generally they had 1 year under their real ages, and females were better than males. In view of age, forties aged group was ranked highly and teenagers had lowest scores.
