  • 3D image mosaicking is useful for 3D visualization of the roadside scene of urban area by projecting 2D images to the 3D planes. When a sequence of images are filmed from a side-looking video camera passing long distance areas, the ghost effect in which same objects appear repeatively occurs. To suppress such ghost effect, the long distance range areas are detected by using the distance between the image frame and the 3D coordinate of tracked optical flows. The ghost effects are suppressed by projecting the part of image frames onto 3D multiple planes utilizing vectors passing the focal point of frames and a virtual focal point. The virtual focal point is calculated by utilizing the first and last frames of the long distance range areas. We demonstrate algorithm that creates efficient 3D Panoramic mosaics without the ghost effect at the long distance area.

  • TV ghost interference can be described as passive interference by the conducting part of transmission lines. In order to survey this interference from large-sized overhead EHV (extra high voltage) transmission line, TV reception quality was measured in the vicinity of that before and after construction. Instrumentation system was composed of ghost analyzer, TV received field intensity meter, VHF/UHF antennas, TV monitor and so on. The system is installed inside the vehicle. TV field intensity and PDUR (Perceived Desired wave to Undersired wave Ratio) are measured to evaluate TV ghost by using the system and vehicle. As the results, the useful data, which can be used to evaluate the effect of TV ghost interference from transmission lines could be obtained. In this paper, it is shown that the range of TV ghost interference from transmission lines can vary according to the frequency of TV electromagnetic wave, an incidence angle to the line and the other conditiions. At present, we are making efforts to establish a PDUR guideline for transmission lines.

  • Marine seismic data have not only primary signals from subsurface but also ghost signals reflected from the sea surface. The ghost decreases temporal resolution of seismic data because it attenuates specific frequency components. For eliminating the ghost signals effectively, the exact ghost delaytimes and reflection coefficients are required. Because of undulation of the sea surface and vertical movements of airguns and streamers, the ghost delaytime varies spatially and randomly while acquiring seismic data. The reflection coefficient is a function of frequency, incidence angle of plane-wave and the sea state. In order to estimate the proper ghost delaytimes considering these characteristics, we compared the ghost delaytimes estimated with L-1 norm, L-2 norm and kurtosis of the deghosted trace and its autocorrelation on synthetic data. L-1 norm of autocorrelation showed a minimal error and the reflection coefficient was calculated using Kirchhoff approximation equation which can handle the effect of wave height. We applied the estimated ghost delaytimes and the calculated reflection coefficients to remove the source and receiver ghost effects. By removing ghost signals, we reconstructed the frequency components attenuated near the notch frequency and produced the migrated stack section with enhanced temporal resolution.

  • The effect of lipophilicity on the mechanisms of drug absorption through biomembranes was investigated empolying HPLC system and the fluorescence technique. Human erythrocyte ghost membranes were used as a model biomembrane. A series of four parabens (methyl, ethyl, rpopyl, and butyl) and p-hydroxybenzoic acid were used as the model drugs for lipophilicities and their partition coefficients were measured in Sorensen's phosphate buffer solution (pH 5)/octanol system. Absorption amount of parabens through erythrocyte ghost membranes increased with an increase of lipophilicity resulted from the addition of methylene group to the n-alkyl chain of parabens. And the effect of parabens on the fluidity of ghost membrane also increased with an increase of their lipophilicities.

  • In this paper, we propose target range estimation method using ghost target in the submarine linear array sonar. Usually, when submarine detect target, they use passive sonar detection to avoid self-disclosure by active sonar transmission. But, originally, passive linear array sonar have limitation for target range estimation and additional processing is required to get target range information. For the case of near-field target, typical range estimation method is using multiple information by multipath effect in underwater environment. Acoustic signal generated from target are propagated along with numerous multipath in underwater environment. Since multipath target signals received in the linear array sonar have different conic angles each other, ghost target is appeared at the bearing different with real target bearing and sonar operator can find these information on the operation console. Under several assumption, this geometric properties can be analysed mathematically and we get the target range by derivation of this geometric equations using measured conic angles of real target and ghost target.

  • Edwardsiella tarda, a gram (-) pathogen causing edwardsiellosis in farmed fish, was transformed via electroporation with a plasmid expression vector driving the PhiX174 E-lysis gene under the transcriptional control by lambda PR regulatory sequence. The persistent maintenance of the plasmid vector in recombinant E. tarda was found in numerous subculture procedures over up to 6 months without any adverse effect on the original copy number of plasmids. Comparative examination based on semi-quantitative RT-PCR analysis on transcriptional efficiency of E-lysis gene between recombinant E. coli and E. tarda indicated that promoter strength and induction capacity of bacterial ghosts would be retarded in E. tarda as compared to the E. coli. However, the completeness of induction for bacterial ghosts in E. tarda was the same with E. coli, in which at least 99.99% of induction rate was possible and further the viability of recombinant bacteria was completely eliminated by a post-induction procedure including washing and freeze drying lyophilization.

  • The effects of calcium channel blockers (CAB's) verapamil, diltiazem and nicardipine, on erythrocyte ghost membranes have been studied. Using the fluorospectroscopic method, it was observed that the fluidity of the inner layer of ghost membranes was increased with an increase of drug concentrations but did not any changes in the fluidity of the outer layer. These drugs showed protectuve effect against hypotonic hemolysis of erythrocytes. Thus, the expansion of surface area in response to corpuscular volume of erythrocytes in the presence of CAB's is seemed to play an important role in protecting hypotonic hemolysis of erythrocytes.

  • Multilayered structures include lamination by relatively thick plies and thin interlayers. For efficient peridynamic analysis of dynamic fracturing multilayered structures, the interlayer is modeled using ghost peridynamic particles while the ply is formulated via real peridynamics. With the nonlocal ghost interlayer, one may keep the discretization resolution low for the ply. In this study, the characteristics of dynamic wave propagation through the nonlocal ghost interlayer in peridynamic analysis are investigated. It is observed that the interlayer not only binds adjacent plies, but also significantly influences energy transfer between plies, and thereby their deformation and motion. In addition, near a surface or boundary, peridynamic particles do not have a full nonlocal neighborhoods. This causes the effective material properties near the surface to be different from those in the bulk. Surface correction based on neighborhood volumes is employed. The impact of surface correction on wave propagation in multilayered structures is investigated.

  • An Isolation-with-Migration (IM) model is used to estimate extant population sizes, the splitting time of populations split away from their common ancestral populations, and migration rates between the extant populations. An evolutionary model such as IM models is estimated by analyzing DNA sequences sampled from the extant populations in the model. When a true model includes an unsampled 'ghost' population without data, the unsampled population is often ignored from the evolutionary model to infer. In this paper, we conduct a simulation study to investigate the effect of an unsampled population on the estimation of the size of the sampled population. When there exists an unsampled population that shares migrations with the sampled population, the size estimation of the sampled population was biased. However, the size estimation was improved if an evolutionary model, including the unsampled population, was estimated.

  • Optical information processing technology is characterized by high speed and parallelism, and the light features short wavelength and large information capacity; At the same time, it has various attributes including amplitude, phase, wavelength and polarization, and is a carrier of multi-dimensional information. Therefore, optical encryption is of great significance in the field of information security transmission, and is widely used in the field of image encryption. For multi-image encryption, this paper proposes a multi-image encryption algorithm based on a modified Gerchberg-Saxton algorithm (MGSA) in the Fresnel-transform domain and computational ghost imaging. First, MGSA is used to realize "one code, one key"; Second, phase function superposition and normalization are used to reduce the amount of ciphertext transmission; Finally, computational ghost imaging is used to improve the security of the whole encryption system. This method can encrypt multiple images simultaneously with high efficiency, simple calculation, safety and reliability, and less data transmission. The encryption effect of the method is evaluated by using correlation coefficient and structural similarity, and the effectiveness and security of the method are verified by simulation experiments.
