A Study on Development of Algorithm for Predicting the Optimized Process Parameters on Bead Geometry (임의의 비드형상을 의한 최적의 공정변수 예측 알고리즘 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The procedure of robotic Gas metal Arc (GMA) welding in order to achieve the optimized bead geometry needs the selection of suitable process parameters such as arc current, welding voltage, welding speed. It is required the relationships between process parameters and bead geometry. The objective of this paper is to develop the algorithm that enables the determination of process parameters from the optimized bead geometry for robotic GMA welding. It depends on the inversion of empirical equations derived from multiple regression analysis of the relationships between the process parameters and the bead dimensions using the least square method. The method not only directly determines those parameters which will give the desired set of bead geometry, but also avoids the need to iterate with a succession of guesses employed Finite Element Method(FEM). These results suggest that process parameter from experimental equation for robotic GMA welding may be employed to monitor and control the bead geometry in real time.

  • In this study, an investigation on the geometry control of the precast segmental method(PSM) was performed and GEOCON was developed. It is an interactive software to control the 3-dimensional geometry of precast segmental bridges during the construction progress. Specially, this paper emphasized that the fabrication stage of the precast segment is the most important for the geometry control in the PSM and also descussed about some problems which can be overlooked in developing and using the geometry control softwares by explaining the GEOCON's characteristics. GEOCON was successfully applied to the surrounding road of Pusan harbor.

  • Three dimensional orthogonal grid generation is able to control effectively the grid spacing near the boundaries, but there are some difficulty to meshing complex geometry. The mesh complex geometry by orthogonal grid generation method must divide block of geometry It is required a careful skill, and long time. Its also difficulty to make unstructured mesh on complex geometry. Particularly, three dimensional geometry must have more time and effort. Recently, there have been growing interests in mesh generation of complex grometry, aslike an automobile headlamp, the heart. The method of easily meshing complex geometry is resarched to solve them. We suggest octree grid into one among these methods. As octrce grid is automaticaly adapted at the boundaries by determine the level operations to control the grid spacing near the boundaries are unnecessary. In this paper we showed throe dimensional mesh generation, and heat-flow analysis on the octree mesh.

An innovative geometry control method for short-line match precast segmental bridges

  • The occurrence of unexpected horizontal offset in the instrument or target will result in accumulated horizontal deviation in segment alignment with traditional short-line match method. A geometry control method, the four-point method, is developed for precast segmental bridges to avoid the influences of unexpected horizontal offset. The concept of the four-point method is elucidated. Furthermore, the detailed instruments and instructions are introduced. Finally, the four-point method is validated through a practical engineering application. According to the survey data, after short-line match precast construction, the vertical deviations on both sides vary between -5 mm and 5 mm in almost all segments, and the horizontal deviations vary between -4 mm and 4 mm in all segments. Without on-site adjustment, the maximum vertical and horizontal closure gaps are 12.3 and 26.1 mm, respectively. The four-point method is suggested to alleviate the issues associated with relatively poor soil conditions in casting yard.

  • In GMA welding processes, bead contour and penetration patterns are criterion to estimate weld quality. Bead geometry is commonly defined with width, height and depth. When weaving is taken into account, selection of welding conditions is known to be difficult. Thus, empirical or trial-and-error method are usually introduced. This study examined the correlation of welding process variables including weaving parameters with bead geometry using srtificial neural networks(ANN). The main task of the Ann estimator is to realize the mapping characteristics from the sampled welding process variables to the actual bead geometry through training. After the neural network model is constructed, welding process variables for desired bead geometry is selected by inverse model. Experimental varification of the inverse model is conducted through actual welding.

  • To develop the aerodynamic performance, there are widely two group of studies are achieved. The first one is about design of the vehicles geometry and the second one is about aerodynamic devices. Geometry design is highly credible and stable method. But it is not flexible and each parts are related interactively. So if one part geometry are modified, the other parts are required to be redesigned. The other hand, flow control by aerodynamic device is flexible and modulized method. Though it needs energy, relatively little input makes far advanced aerodynamic performance. Synthetic Jet is one of the second group method. The device repeats suction and blowing motion in constant frequency. According to the performance, the flow which are near the flight surface are served momentum. This mechanism can reduce the aerodynamic loss by boundary layer and separated flow. Synthetic jet actuator has several parameters, that influence the flow control. This study focus the parameters effects of the synthetic jet - orifice geometry, frequency, jet speed and etc.

Design Optimization of Ball Grid Array Packaging by the Taguchi Method

  • In this paper, a design optimization of ball grid array packaging geometry is studied based on the Taguchi method, which allowed robust design by considering the variance of the input parameters during the optimization process. Molding compound and substrate were modeled as viscoelastic, and finite element analyses were performed to calculate the strain energy densities of the eutectic solder balls. Six quality factors of the dimensions of the packaging geometry were chosen as control factors. After performing noise experiments to determine the dominant factors, main experiments were conducted to find the optimum packaging geometry. Then the strain energy densities between the original and optimized geometries were compared. It was found that the effects of the packaging geometry on the solder ball reliability were significant, and more than 40% of the strain energy density was reduced by the geometry optimization.

Development of Steering Control System for Autonomous Vehicle Using Geometry-Based Path Tracking Algorithm

  • In this paper, a steering control system for the path tracking of autonomous vehicles is described. The steering control system consists of a path tracker and primitive driver. The path tracker generates the desired steering angle by using the look-ahead distance, vehicle heading, and a lateral offset. A method for applying an autonomous vehicle to path tracking is an advanced pure pursuit method that can reduce cutting corners, which is a weakness of the pure pursuit method. The steering controller controls the steering actuator to follow the desired steering angle. A servo motor is installed to control the steering handle, and it can transmit the steering force using a belt and pulley. We designed a steering controller that is applied to a proportional integral differential controller. However, because of a dead band, the path tracking performance and stability of autonomous vehicles are reduced. To overcome the dead band, a dead band compensator was developed. As a result of the compensator, the path tracking performance and stability are improved.

  • 프리스트레스트 콘크리트 교량의 건설공법인 프리캐스트 세그멘탈 공법에서선형관리 기술은 핵심기술 중 하나이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 , 우리나라에서는 몇몇 교량기술자들에게 경험적으로 이해되고 있는 수준을 넘지 못하고 있다. 특히, 세그멘트의 제작에서부터 반드시 필요한 선형관리용 S/W 및 그 운용기술은 아직까지도 선진기술에 의존하고 있는 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 프리캐스트 세그멘탈 공법의 선형관리 기술에 대한 연구를 통하여 3차원적인 세그멘트 제작관리와 가설시 선형관리를 위한 제작선형을 자동적으로 계산할 수 있는 GEOCON을 개발하였다. 본 논문에서는 GEOCON의 알고리즘에 대하여 논하였으며, 특히 수치예제로서 제작오차의 발생위치에 따라 교량선형에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다.

T-spline Finite Element Method Integrated with CAD (CAD 와의 연동을 고려한 T-스플라인 유한요소해석)

  • Recently, the new finite element method which uses NURBS as shape functions was proposed. It is very promising because it can directly use CAD data to describe geometry and discretize problem domain. In this case, CAE models are not approximated but represent exact geometry. So, it can contribute to more accurate results. In addition, it can greatly reduce CAE costs in that simulation models don't have to be made up independently. But in spite of these advantages, the method using NURBS have also some disadvantages. NURBS surface cannot be refined locally. T-splines are recently developed surface modeling technique. A T-spline surface is a NURBS surface with T-junctions and is defined by a control grid called T-mesh. The T-junctions enable T-spline surfaces to be refined locally. That is, it is possible to add a single control point to a T-spline control grid without propagating an entire row or column of control points and without altering the surface. In this research, the finite element analysis using T-splines is studied. In this analysis, CAD data are used directly for engineering analysis. Some problems with complex geometry are solved. And the results will be compared with ones of conventional FEM.
