GIS DB Quality Improvement in the user′s point of view (사용자 관점에서의 지형DB 품질 확보를 위한 연구)

  • This study aims at preparing the foundation for continuous development of Topographic DB by suggesting an actual quality improvement scheme and proposing a draft for complementing existing progress and method of implementation and management according to this scheme. For this purpose, we surveyed the Topographic DB users to grasp the current DB quality and the required quality level. Then, the suggested quality improvement scheme was concertized and verified through an experimental research. The experimental research was concentrated upon evaluating primitive data, modifying geometrical and logical errors and management. At last, a plan to improve the related systems was proposed.

  • A quality monitoring system in butt welding process is proposed to estimate weld pool sizes. The geometrical parameters of the weld pool such as the top bead width and the penetration depth plus half back width are utilized to prove the integrity of the weld quality. The monitoring variables used are the surface temperatures measured at three points on the top surface of the weldment. The temperature profile is assumed that it has a gaussian distribution in vertical direction of torch movement and verify this assumption through temperature analysis. A neural network estimator is designed to estimate weld pool size from temperature informations. The experimental results show that the proposed neural network estimator which used gaussian distribution as temperature information can estimate the weld pool sizes accurately than used three point temperatures as temperature information. Considering the change of gap size in butt welding, the experiment were performed on various gap size.

  • Krylov-Schur iteration method has been applied to the 2-Dim. waveguides of the varied geometrical structure. The eigen-equations for them have been constructed from FEM based on the tangential edge vectors of triangular elements. The eigen-values and their modes have been determined from the diagonal components of the Schur matrices and its transforming matrices. The eigen-pairs as the results have been revealed visually in the schematic representations.

  • Previous studies on high impedance faults assumed that the erratic behavior of fault current would be random. In this paper, we prove that the nature of the high impedance faults is indeed a deterministic chaos, not a random motion. Algorithms for estimating Lyapunov spectrum and the largest Lyapunov exponent are applied to various fault currents in order to evaluate the orbital instability peculiar to deterministic chaos dynamically, and fractal dimensions of fault currents, which represent geometrical self-similarity are calculated. In addition, qualitative analysis such as phase planes, Poincare maps obtained from fault currents indicate that the irregular behavior is described by strange attractor.

  • In order to achieve an advanced human-computer interface system, it is necessary to analyze and synthesize facial motions just as they are in an interactive way, and to protect them from unwanted use and/or illegal use for their privacy, various uses in applications and the costs of obtaining motion parameters. To estimate facial motion, a method of using skin color distribution, luminance, and geometrical information of a face is employed. Digital watermarks are embedded into facial motion parameters and then these parameters are scrambled so that it cannot be understood. Experimental results show high accuracy and efficiency of the proposed estimation method and the usefulness of the proposed watermarking method.

  • Walsh analysis is applied to the numerical specification of the volume distribution which is the key parameter in the formulation of the constitutive equations of heterogeneous media, indicating the geometrical state of the mixture. An example of two-dimensional volume distribution, its approximation, and the Walsh correlation coefficients are presented and the change of the information distribution in the operations is investigated. The phenomena of information concentration upon the large-scale Walsh coefficients are applied to the volumetric response of porous slids, clarifying the validity of the spherical-model calculation.

  • This paper presents a fuzzy-motion-control based tracking algorithm of mobile robots, which uses the geometrical information derived from the active stereo-vision system mounted on the mobile robot. The active stereo-vision system consists of two color cameras that rotates in two angular dimensions. With the stereo-vision system, the center position and depth information of the target object can be calculated. The proposed fuzzy motion controller is used to calculate the tracking velocity and angular position of the mobile robot, which makes the mobile robot keep following the object with a constant distance and orientation.

  • Human have a notable ability to recognize faces, which is one of the most common visual feature in our environment. In regarding face pattern, just like other natural object, a geometrical interpretation of face is difficult to achieve. In this paper, we present wavelet based approach to extract the face features. Proposed approach is similar to the feature based scheme, where the feature is derived from the intensity data without detecting any knowledge of the significant feature. Topological graphs are involved to represent some relations between facial features. In our experiments, proposed approach is less sensitive to the intensity variation.

  • A realization for image distortion correction processing system with DSP processor is presented in this paper. The image distortion correcting algorithm is realized by DSP processor for focusing on more real time processing than image quality. The lens and camera distortion coefficients are processed by YCbCr Lookup Tables and the correcting algorithm is applied to reverse mapping method for geometrical transform. The system experimentation results in the processing time about 34.6 msec on $720{\times}480$ curved image at 150 degree visual range.

  • Stainless steel sheets are widely used as the structural material for the railroad cars and the commercial vehicles. These kinds structures used stainless steel sheets are commonly fabricated by using the GMAW (gas metal arc welding). For fatigue design of GMA welded joints such as fillet and plug, ring type joint, it is important to obtain optimum design factor information on GMA welded joints. in this paper, analysis approach for fatigue test using design of experiment are evaluated optimum factor in GMA welded joint type and geometrical parameters of materials. Using these results, that factors applied to fundamental information for fatigue design.
