Previous research reported that body size measured as Body Mass Index (BMI) and body shape measured as waist-hip-ratio (WHR) are two essential factors that form the perceptions of body attractiveness. However, the debate on the importance of BMI versus WHR is ongoing. In addition, scholarly articles, that focus on the role of geographic and cultural variability on perceptions of attractiveness, report inconsistent results. Some suggested that according to globalization and the rise of mass media, geographic variability of perceptions of attractiveness have been altered, while others believed that it remains. This study cross-regionally investigates the role of body size and body shape on the perceptions of female attractiveness. Samples were composed of 107 female college students in Alabama and 107 female college students in California. Participants viewed 27 three-dimensional body scan images of women in three body shapes (pear, hourglass, and rectangle) and three body sizes (underweight, normal weight, and overweight) and rated their perceptions of attractiveness. Images were shown to students in a random order with an overhead projector and Microsoft Office PowerPoint software. A three-way mixed-ANOVA was conducted to analyze the data. The results of the study showed that some regional differences exist between the two sample groups. However, regardless of the regional difference, hourglass shapes were perceived to be the most attractive shape and underweight sizes were perceived to be the most attractive size for both samples.

Digital map is utilized for an effective display of the distributions of the hydrogeological variables such as water table height(hydraulic head) and log-transmissivity(lnT) in north Pohang, KyungBug. Specifically the geostatistical method kriging is used to construct the distributions in an unconfined aquifer from a finite set of measured data. The experimental variograms for both the head and lnT suggest spherical models with nugget of 0 and range of 6km. The kriged results by using these variograms show that the head decreases primarily from the west to the east with a large peak in the north-western part and lnT is at the maximum level in the central part with outwardly decreasing trend. The constructed delineation is also used to calculate the flow field in the region. Finite differences with second order consistency are used to calculate the fluxes in the east(x) and north(y) across a vertical cross-section of unit width and height equal to the thickness of the wet zone in the aquifer. It is demonstrated that the flow is dominantly in the east with diverging trend on the eastern hillside of the water table peak. A few convergent spots also appear.

In this study, the impact of the covariance between the baselines on the network-based GPS positioning is analyzed. For the analysis, the multi-baseline solutions with properly modeled covariance between the baselines and the combined solutions from the single-baseline solutions are obtained, respectively. Then, the accuracies of both solutions are evaluated in terms of coordinate residuals, i.e., the differences between the positioning solutions and the published stations' coordinates. The results indicate that the positioning accuracy in static mode depends much on the geometry of GPS satellites rather than the proper modeling of covariance between the baselines. Also, slight but negligible improvement in positioning accuracy is observed in static solutions. Therefore, one may use combined solutions as an alternative to multi-baseline solutions for the network-based GPS positioning. However, multi-baseline solution with properly modeled covariance between the baselines is recommended to use especially for the applications to detect very small displacement, i.e., deformation of the building or bridge.
The large-scale distribution of crops Is usually determined by climate. We present the results of a climate-crop prediction based on spatial bio-physical process model approach, implemented in a GIS (Geographic Information System) environment using several regional and global agriculture-environmental databases. The model utilizes daily climate data like temperature, rainfall, solar radiation being generated stocastically by in-built model weather generator to determine the daily biomass and finally the crop yield. Crops are characterized by their specific growing period requirements, photosynthesis, respiration properties and harvesting index properties. Temperature and radiation during the growing period controls the development of each crop. The model simulates geographic/spatial distribution of climate by which a crop-growing belt can also be determined. The model takes both irrigated and non-irrigated area crop productivity into account and the potential increase in productivity by the technical means like mechanization is not considered. All the management input given at the base year 1995 was kept same for the next twenty-year changes until 2015. The simulated distributions of crops under current climatic conditions coincide largely with the current agricultural or specific crop growing regions. Simulation with assumed weather generated derived climate change scenario illustrate changes in the agricultural potential. There are large regional differences in the response across the country. The north-south and east-west regions responded differently with projected climate changes with increased and decreased productivity depending upon the crops and scenarios separately. When water was limiting or facilitating as non-irrigated and irrigated area crop-production effects of temperature rise and higher $CO_2$ levels were different depending on the crops and accordingly their production. Rise in temperature led to yield reduction in case of maize and rice whereas a gain was observed for wheat crop, doubled $CO_2$ concentration enhanced yield for all crops and their several combinations behaved differently with increase or decrease in yields. Finally, with this spatial modeling approach we succeeded in quantifying the crop productivity which may bring regional disparities under the different climatic scenarios where one region may become better off and the other may go worse off.
Genomic DNA samples isolated from two geographical crayfish (Cambaroides similis) populations in the inland of the Korean Peninsula, at Jeonju (Jeonju crayfish; JJC) and Jeongup (Jeongup crayfish; JUe), were PCR-amplified repeatedly. The six arbitrarily selected primers OPC-03, OPC-06, OPC-09, URP-02, URP07 and URP-09 generated the common, specific, and polymorphic fragments. The sizes of DNA fragments also varied widely, from 100 bp - 2,600 bp. Here, 521 fragments were identified in the JJC population, and 354 in the JUC population: 6 primers generated 60 specific fragments (60/521 fragment, 11.5%) in the JJC population, and 90 (90/354 fragments, 25.4%) in the JUC population. These primers produced 42 polymorphic fragments (8.1%) in the DC population, and 18 (5.1%) in the mc population. Especially these results demonstrate that the primers detected numerous specific fragments. Especially, the decamer primer OPC-06 generated inter-population-common DNA fragments, approximately 400 and 800 bp, respectively, in both the JJC and JUC populations. The universal primer URP-02 also generated inter-population-identical DNA fragments, approximately 350 bp and 600 bp, between the two geographical crayfish populations. Based on the average bandsharing values of all samples, the bandsharing value of individuals within the JJC population was much higher than in the JUC population. The bandsharing value between individuals no. 10 and no. 15 was 0.683, which was the highest between the two geographical populations. The dendrogram obtained by the six primers indicates two genetic clusters: cluster I (CRAYFISH 01 - CRAYFISH II), and cluster 2 (CRAYFISH 12 - CRAYFISH 22). The genetic distance between the two geographical populations ranged from 0.053 to 0.605. Ultimately, the longest genetic distance displaying significant molecular differences was found to exist between individuals in the two crayfish populations, between individuals CRAYFISH no. 02 of Jeonju and CRAYFTSH no. 15 of Jeongup (genetic distance = 0.605).

Through the ISODATA method of unsupervised classification, the micro-landform of Gomso-Bay tidal flat was classified into mud, mixed, and sand flats by using Landsat TM image. Each tidal flat shows on apparent differences in its topographical characteristics and grain size compositions. Mud flat is occupied the innermost part of the tidal flat. Sand flat is distributed adjacent to the entrance of the bay, while the mixed one is located in the central part of the bay. Mud flat deposits have fine grain size, more than 4 in average mean phi, bad sorting, more than 1 phi in standard devation, and positive skewness. Mixed and sand flat deposits have coarse grain size, less than 4 average mean phi, good sorting, less than 1 phi in standard daviation, and negative skewness. Topographically, the mud flat consists of flat surfaces and dissected channels. The average depth of dissected channels is about 2 meters. Meanwhile, sand flat has a very flat landform with well-developed ripple marks of less than 10 centimeters in average relief. And the mixed one shows the intermediate topographical characteristics of those of mud and sand flats.

The purpose of this study is to produce digital elevation model (DEM) in the Jebu tidal flat, one of the west coast of the Korean Peninsula, by means of photogrammetric techniques from aerial digital stereo-images. Produced DEM would be become the fundamental data for change detection of the sediment and erosion. To do so, epipolar line is established by relative orientation. Area-based matching is then carried out based on this line and matching size according to surface property of tidal flat after a classified image is produced from reflectance and texture of the surface. As the results, DEM generated by the proposed method showed subtle changes in height more precisely than DEM using the fixed matching size and DEM by the commercial S/W in the region, such as tidal flats having few level differences.

Although GPS has proven to be efficient in the fields of navigation and surveying, it has many problems of positioning in downtown areas. Therefore, if GPS is combined with GLONASS which is similar to GPS in its positioning and signal system, it is expected that accuracy will be improved. However, we should address certain problems that exist related to the coordinate, time, and signal system between the two. The purpose of this study is to develop a GPS/GLONASS combination program by considering the properties of GPS and GLONASS and to solve the problems related to differences in the coordinates system and signal system. It is also to present the efficiency of the program in navigation and geographic information through analyzing 3D positioning accuracy by GPS/GLONASS combination with an application experiment. As a result of this study, the accuracy of the DGPS/DGLONASS positioning program corresponded to that of commercial program, and that's accuracy was better than that of DGPS. Especially, the acquisition of navigation and geographic information was possible by DGPS/DGLONASS combination in downtown area where the continuous 3D positioning is impossible by DGPS only.

The combined method utilizing airborne LiDAR and GIS data is suggested to extract 3-dimensional hybrid city model including roads and buildings. Combining the two types of data is more efficient to estimate the elevations of various types of roads and buildings than using either LiDAR or GIS data only. This method is particularly useful to model the overlapped roads around the so called spaghetti junction. The preliminary model is constructed from the LiDAR data, which can give wrong information around the overlapped parts. And then, the erratic vertex points are detected by imposing maximum vertical grade allowable on the elevated roads. For the purpose of efficiency, the erratic vertex points are corrected through linear interpolation method. To avoid the erratic treatment of the LiDAR data on the facades of buildings 2 meter inner-buffer zone is proposed to efficiently estimate the height of a building. It is validated by the mean value(=5.26 %) of differences between estimated elevations on 2 m inner buffer zone and randomly observed building elevations.

This study presents a modeling of aerosol extinction vertical profiles in Korea by using the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectro-radiometer(MODIS) derived aerosol optical thickness(AOT) and ground based visibility observation data. The method uses a series of physical equations for the derivation of aerosol scale height and vertical profiles from MODIS AOT and surface visibility data. The modelled results under the standard atmospheric condition showed small differences with the standard aerosol vertical profile used in the radiative transfer model. Model derived aerosol scale heights for two cases of clean(${\tau}_{MODIS}=0.12{\pm}0.07$, visibility=$21.13{\pm}3.31km$) and hazy atmosphere(${\tau}_{MODIS}=1.71{\pm}0.85$, visibility=$13.33{\pm}5.66km$) are $0.63{\pm}0.33km$ and $1.71{\pm}0.84km$. Based on these results, aerosol extinction profiles can be estimated and the results are transformed into the KML code for visualization of dataset. This has implications for atmospheric environmental monitoring and environmental policies for the future.
