  • Purpose: This was a descriptive study investigating the effect of symptom experience and self-care agency on quality of life among patients with stage 5 chronic kidney disease undergoing regular hemodialysis. Methods: The participants were recruited from one general hospital and two private hospitals located in J city. 154 participated and completed structured questionnaires from June 30 to July 18, 2022. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: The mean symptom experience score was 0.91±0.67 (out of 5), self-care agency was 4.19±0.71 (out of 6), and quality of life was 3.02±0.49 (out of 5). A negative correlation was found between quality of life and physical symptom experience (r=-.39, p<.001) and emotional symptom experience (r=-.39, p<.001). A positive correlation was found between quality of life and self-care agency (r=.66, p<.001). The regression analysis showed self-care agency (β=.48, p<.001), emotional symptom experience (β=-.27, p=.001), and monthly family income (β=.19, p=.002) significantly influenced quality of life, and explained 54.0% of the quality of life. Conclusion: These results suggest to improve the quality of life among patients on hemodialysis, it is necessary to assess and intervene with emotional symptom experiences and develop effective programs with specific strategies to enhance self-care agency.

The Subjects of this study were 126 firefighters who experienced Deagu Subway Disaster. Q questionnaire developed by Q-study and coping methods instrument based on that of Folkman & Lazaruswas revised and complemented by Kim Jung Hee was used. Data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA using SPSS. The results of this study were as follows : 1. The distribution of post-traumatic stress types were 52.4% of Emotional arousal trauma, 34.1% of Trauma experience persistence and 13.5% of Physiological symptom experience. 2. The difference of post-traumatic stress types according to the general characteristics were significantly related to the physical injury(p = .010). 3. The minimum score of coping with post-traumatic stress types was 0.07, the maximum was 2.96 and the mean score was 1.27. 4. The coping methods according to the general characteristics were significantly different at active coping method according to educational level(p = .001), passive coping method according to educational level(p = .003) and passive coping method according to diagnosis(p = 0.20). 5. The mean score of active coping method according types were Emotional arousal trauma(1.505), trauma experience persistance(1.322) and Physiological symptom experience(1.276). The mean score of passive coping method related with types were Emotional arousal trauma(1.328), trauma experience persistance(1.254) and Physiological symptom experience(1.219).

Objective working posture analysis was done by using REBA after recording moving images in hospital operating-rooms. Results: The result were as follows. The risk level of musculoskeletal symptom related working posture was high, and the management level was at the least 2; 'some management was required for musculoskeletal symptom'. The frequency of pain was 3~4 times/week and the severe pain were experienced from legs, neck, and shoulder. The result of relation of general characteristics and pain were significant variable with sex, age, marital status, weight, past working history, average working time(hr/day), working style, and working department. • The study was intended to investigate the bothersome level of premenstrual symptoms, their pattern and to examine the relationships between menstrual attitude and the premenstrual symptoms. Two hundred sixty eight female students were recruited from a college located in Kyungido from March 1, 2001 to July 1, 2001. A general characteristics questionnaires, the premenstrual assessment form(PAF) and the menstrual distress questionnaire(MDQ) were used to measure the bothersome level of the premenstrual symptoms and the menstrual attitude. The data were analyzed by SPSS-PC+ program. The results of this study were as follows ; 1. All subject who were participated in the research reported more than one symptom in premenstrual period and the mean score of total categories in PAF was low(1.89). The subject had more symptoms of fatigue, abdominal bloating and discomfort, backache and muscle stiffness and among the 21 categories fatigue feature, hysteroid feature, water retention feature and miscellaneous mood/behavior change feature were prevalent. On the other hand organic mental feature and increased well-being feature were rare that premenstrual symptom has negative aspect than positive. 2. Degree of discomfort in premenstrual symptom was related with dysmenorrhea but other general characteristics. 3. In Menstruation attitude, the student in college recognized menstruation as natural but bothersome and causes negatives effects on body and emotion. 4. There were significant correlation(r=.395, p<0.000) between premenstrual symptom and level of Menstrual attitude. 5. Menstrual attitude explained 15.3% variance of PMS and five categories of menstrual attitude, especially factor 1(menstruation is a phenomena that weakens women physically and psychologically) was most highly correlated with PMS and explained 21.1% variance of PMS.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the degree of menopausal symptom and granulocyte/lymphocyte ratio, and heart rate varibility(HRV). Methods: From 11th April 2011 to 20th May 2011, a total 30 female subjects (age 41-60) was recruited. We evaluated the degree of menopausal symptoms by Kupperman' s index and measured subject's WBC differential count and HRV. The data were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis test and Spearman correlation test using SPSS/PC ver 13.0 program. Results: 1. There was no statistically significant difference in granulocyte/lymphocyte ratio and HRV among 4 classified groups according to Kupperman's index.- Mild, Moderate, Severe and Urgent. 2. Granulocyte ratio and general symptom score(within Kupperman's index) significantly showed negative correlation coefficient(r=-0.499, p=0.005), and Lymphocyte ratio and general symptom score significantly showed positive correlation coefficient (r=0.374, p=0.042). 3. Granulocyte/lymphocyte ratio and HRV showed no significant correlation. Conclusions: There was no significant relation among the degree of menopausal symptoms and granulocyte/lymphocyte ratio, and HRV. But furthermore large scale study is required.

  • Objective : The goal of this study is to identify the significant radiologic abnormalities in patients complaining headache and to determine predictive factors for clinically significant radiological abnormalities. Method : The study population was 410 patients having underwent CT or MRI study among 1000 patients complaining headache in outpatient basis between 1996-1999. All of these patients answered self-administered questionaire about their headaches. We reviewed the patient's charts and the questionaires and examined the radiologic study results. Result : Of the 410 patients referred for CT or MRI study, male : female ratio was 1 : 1.97. Twenty-five patients(6.1%) revealed clinically significant organic lesions. Mean age was 46.1 in radiologic abnormal group and 48.4 in normal group. Short symptom duration(p<0.01), motor weakness(p<0.05), vomiting(p<0.05), cranial nerve palsy(p<0.05), and trauma history(p<0.05) were factors indicated higher incidence of radiologic abnormality. But, patients age, and severity of headache were not associated with clinically significant radiologic lesion. The ratio of radiologic abnormality was 0.8% in patients not having any risk factor. Conclusion : The results indicate that radiologic study should be done in headache patients having the risk factors such as short symptom duration, motor weakness, vomiting, cranial nerve palsy, trauma history. For patients without any such a risk factor, the radiologic study doesn't seem mandatory.
