  • A three-stage low noise amplifier(LNA) for the Base-station of the IMT-2000 is designed and implemented. In the first stage, a GaAs HJt-FET which has good noise characteristics is made use of. Monolithic microwave integrated circuits(MMICS) are used in the second and the third stage to achieve both the high gain and high output power. Although the balanced amplifier is used to reduce the input VSWR, it is done only in the first stage because we have to minimize the noise figure attributed to the phase difference of the balanced amplifier. It is shown that the implemented LNA has the gai over 39.74dB, the gain flatness less than ±0.4dB, the noise figure below 0.97dB, input and output VSWRs less than 1.2, and OIP₃(output third order intercept point) of 38.17dBm in the operating frequency range.

  • In this paper, a low noise amplifier (LNA) in receiver of Low Noise Block Down Converter (LNB) for direct broadcasting service (DBS) is implemented by using GaAs HEMT. The LNA is designed for operation between 10.7GHz-12.7GHz. The LNA consists of input, output matching circuits, DC-blocks and RF-chokes. Simulation result of the LNA shows that a noise figure is less than 1.4dB and a gain is greater than 9.2dB in the bandwidth of 10.7 to 12.7GHz with good flatness of 0.1dB.

  • In this letter, novel antennas with two spiral elements are presented for ultra-wideband application. The original antenna consists of a T-shaped microstrip feed line, two spiral radiating elements, and a ground plane with two circular slots. It measures 30 mm ${\times}$ 40 mm ${\times}$ 1.6 mm. Spiral elements are used to increase the lower bandwidth limit. To further reduce the size of the antenna, the original antenna is cut in half by using the symmetry of the surface current distributions. The proposed antennas feature omnidirectional radiation patterns and good gain flatness.

  • An 1-bit DPCM image coding method is presented. Our method is specially designed to reduce the slope overload which seems to be the major performance degradation factor in 1-bit DPCM. In the present algorithm, based on the classification of neighborhoods by its flatness, slope strength and direction, predictor and quantizer operate adaptively through switching action. Compared with some other methods by computer simulation, proposed method shows improved performance in image quality as well as in signal to noise ratio. This gain mainly comes from the reduced slope overload and seems large to compensate the increased complexity in prediction. As a post processing, Lee filter is used to reduce the granular noise subjectively annoying in flat region.

  • In this paper, the design of the successive detection logarithmic amplifier(SDLA) is reviewed for radar and EW system, and implemented in hybrid MIC. The SDLA operates over the 5 to 7㎓ frequency range. the unit has a dynamic range of -80㏈m to 0㏈m, a logging accuracy of ±1.4㏈, a legging slope 19.2㎷/㏈, and a gain flatness of ± 1.2㏈. Input VSWR of less than 2, noise figure of 2㏈, video impedance of 900Ω and output voltage range of 0 to 1.53V DC have been obtained over 80㏈ of dynamic range.
