  • Pseudomonas oleovorans was cultivated to produce medium chain length polyhydroxyalkanoates (MCL-PHA) fram octanoic acid and ammonium nitrate as carbon and nitrogen source, respectively, by a pH-stat fed-batch culture technique. The octanoate concentration of the culture broth was maintained below 4 g/L by feeding the mixture of octanoic acid and ammonium nitrate when the culture pH rose above high limit. The effect of the ratio of octanoic acid to ammonium nitrate (C/N ratio) in the feed on the PHA production was examined. The final cell concentrations of 62.5, 54.7, and 9.5 g/L, PHA contents of 62.9, 75.1, and 67.6% of dry cell weight, and productivities of 1.03, 0.632, and 0.161 g/L/h were obtained when the C/N ratio in the feed were 10, 20, and 100 g octanoic acid/g ammonium nitrate, respectively.

  • Graphene was obtained on Cu foil by thermal decomposition method. A gas mixture of $H_2$ and $CH_4$ and an ambient annealing temperature of $1,000^{\circ}C$ were used during the deposition for 30 Min., and for the transfer onto $SiO_2/Si$ and Si substrates. The physical properties of graphene were investigated with regard to the effect ofnitrogen atom doping and the various substrates used. The G/2D ratio decreased when the graphene became monolayer graphene. The graphene grown on $SiO_2/Si$ substrate showed a low intensity of the G/2D ratio, because the polarity of the $SiO_2$ layer improved the quality of graphene. The intensity of the G/2D ratio of graphene doped with nitrogen atoms increased with the doping time. The quality of graphene depended on the concentration of the nitrogen doping and chemical properties of substrates. High-quality monolayer graphene was obtained with a low G/2D ratio. The increase in the intensity of the G/2D ratios corresponded to a blue shift in the 2D peaks.

  • The purpose of this study is the investigation of the physical properties, handle variation of polyester fabrics grafted methacrylic acid. The results are as follow 1. In the case of moisture recovery, MA-g-PET results in an improvement of approximately 4% when the graft ratio reaches 25%, whilst Na-MA-g-PET results in an improvement of approximately 9% when the graft ratio reaches 20%. 2. The static electricity of Na-MA-g-PET, is rarely generated when the graft ratio exceeds 10% . 3. The T.H.V. indicate that the values had deteriorated in the case of MA-g-PET, whilst the N a-Ma-a.PET values demonstrated superiority. 4. The value resulting from the MA-g-PET and Na-MA-g-PET treatment methods are calculated as being 0.0130, whilst the value pursuant to graft ratio is 0.0000.

  • Objective: Two experiments were conducted to determine the effects of forage-to-concentrate (F:C) ratio on the nutrient digestibility and enteric methane ($CH_4$) emission in growing goats and Sika deer. Methods: Three male growing goats (body weight $[BW]=19.0{\pm}0.7kg$) and three male growing deer ($BW=19.3{\pm}1.2kg$) were respectively allotted to a $3{\times}3$ Latin square design with an adaptation period of 7 d and a data collection period of 3 d. Respiration-metabolism chambers were used for measuring the enteric $CH_4$ emission. Treatments of low (25:75), moderate (50:50), and high (73:27) F:C ratios were given to both goats and Sika deer. Results: Dry matter (DM) and organic matter (OM) digestibility decreased linearly with increasing F:C ratio in both goats and Sika deer. In both goats and Sika deer, the $CH_4$ emissions expressed as g/d, g/kg $BW^{0.75}$, % of gross energy intake, g/kg DM intake (DMI), and g/kg OM intake (OMI) decreased linearly as the F:C ratio increased, however, the $CH_4$ emissions expressed as g/kg digested DMI and OMI were not affected by the F:C ratio. Eight equations were derived for predicting the enteric $CH_4$ emission from goats and Sika deer. For goat, equation 1 was found to be of the highest accuracy: $CH_4(g/d)=3.36+4.71{\times}DMI(kg/d)-0.0036{\times}neutral$ detergent fiber concentrate (NDFC,g/kg)+$0.01563{\times}dry$ matter digestibility (DMD,g/kg)-$0.0108{\times}neutral$ detergent fiber digestibility (NDFD, g/kg). For Sika deer, equation 5 was found to be of the highest accuracy: $CH_4(g/d)=66.3+27.7{\times}DMI(kg/d)-5.91{\times}NDFC(g/kg)-7.11{\times}DMD(g/kg)+0.0809{\times}NDFD(g/kg)$. Conclusion: Digested nutrient intake could be considered when determining the $CH_4$ generation factor in goats and Sika deer. Finally, the enteric $CH_4$ prediction model for goats and Sika deer were estimated.

  • The electrical properties such as space charge accumulation, dielectric breakdown and water treeing of acrylic acid-grafted polyethylene (PE-g-AA) and n-butyl acrylate-grafted polyethylene (PE-g-nBA) were investigated. In PE-g-AA, heterocharge founded in LDPE decreased with the increase of AA graft ratio and changed to the homocharge formation above 0.lwt% due to the introduction of carbonyls. Conduction currents decreased with the increase of AA graft ratio. AC breakdown strength increased and water treeing length decreased with the increase of graft ratio in PE-g-AA and PE-g-nBA.

  • Pinosylvin, a stilbenoid phytoalexin, is a health ingredient to be extracted from pine leaves. In this study, ultrasonication-assisted extraction process for manufacturing extracts with high content of pinosylvin from pine leaves was investigated. As process and system variables, ultrasonic power, sonication time and solvent ratio were selected. According to the experimental results, the effective yield of pinosylvin increased with the increase of ultrasonic power and sonication time and the decrease of solvent ratio. When the ultrasonic power of 2400 W/L was added to the solution of pulverized pine leaves of 8 g per 1 L of a solvent for 10 minutes, yield of extracts and purity, effective yield and concentration ratio of pinosylvin were 0.3166 g/g, 0.7247 mg/g, 0.2294 mg/g and 23.0, respectively.

  • To find the optimum extraction condition of dried omija, central composite experimental design having three independent variable (extraction temperature, extraction time and water ratio) with five levels was conducted for response surface analysis. The maximum of soluble solid was predicted to the extraction conditions of over 25 fold water ratio, $7{\sim}8hr$ and $75^{\circ}C$. Total acid, total phenol, reducing sugar and vitamin C were predicted to respectively 30 fold water ratio, 6 hr, $70^{\circ}C$, 30 fold water ratio, $6{\sim}7\;hrs,\;80^{\circ}C$ and 30 fold water ratio, $6{\sim}8\;hr,\;80^{\circ}C$, 25 fold water ratio, $5{\sim}6hr,\;80^{\circ}C$ extraction condition. Turbidity of extraction condition. Turbidity of extraction condition was 7 over 25 ford water ratio and over $60^{\circ}C$. From the superimposing results of response variables, the optimum extraction condition was predicted 25 folds water ratio, 6 hr and $65{\sim}70^{\circ}C$.

  • Matrix-induced mass bias and its effect on the accuracy of isotope ratio measurements have been examined for a quadrupole-based inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer (Q ICP-MS). Matrix-induced mass bias effect was directly proportional to % mass difference, and its magnitude varied for element and nebulizer flow rate. For a given element and conditions in a day, the effect was consistent. The isotope ratio of Cd106/Cd114 under $200{\mu}g\;g^{-1}$ U matrix deviated from the natural value significantly by 3.5%. When Cd 111 and Cd114 were used for the quantification of Cd with isotope dilution (ID) method, the average of differences between the calculated and measured concentrations was -0.034% for samples without matrix ($0.076{\mu}g\;g^{-1}$ to $0.21{\mu}g\;g^{-1}$ for the period of 6 months). However, the error was as large as 1.5% for samples with $200{\mu}g\;g^{-1}$ U. The error in ID caused by matrix could be larger when larger mass difference isotopes are used.
