Estimation of spatial distribution of precipitation by using of dual polarization weather radar data

  • Access to accurate spatial precipitation in many hydrological studies is necessary. Existence of many mountains with diverse topography in South Korea causes different spatial distribution of precipitation. Rain gauge stations show accurate precipitation information in points, but due to the limited use of rain gauge stations and the difficulty of accessing them, there is not enough accurate information in the whole area. Weather radars can provide an integrated precipitation information spatially. Despite this, weather radar data have some errors that can not provide accurate data, especially in heavy rainfall. In this study, some location-based variable like aspect, elevation, plan curvature, profile curvature, slope and distance from the sea which has most effect on rainfall was considered. Then Automatic Weather Station data was used for spatial training of variables in each event. According to this, K-fold cross-validation method was combined with Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System. Based on this, 80% of Automatic Weather Station data was used for training and validation of model and 20% was used for testing and evaluation of model. Finally, spatial distribution of precipitation for 1×1 km resolution in Gwangdeoksan radar station was estimates. The results showed a significant decrease in RMSE and an increase in correlation with the observed amount of precipitation.

Evaluation of Korea Coast Guard Districts Using F-AHP & ARAS Method for Deployment Marine Air Drones (F-AHP법 및 ARAS법을 이용한 해양항공드론 배치를 위한 해양경찰서 관할구역 평가)

  • A marine air drone is a new device that can be used to respond to and prevent marine casualties. Determining the districts where marine air drones can be deployed helps the government decision makers identify efficient policy. The aim of this study is to develop a model using the fuzzy-analytic hierarchy process (F-AHP) and additive ratio assessment (ARAS) method to evaluate appropriate districts for deploying marine air drones. To verify the applicability of the proposed model, a case study was performed with respect to the Korea coast guard (KCG) districts. Since the deployed marine air drones are characterized by a high degree of overlap between the evaluation attributes. the F-AHP is used to determine the weights of identified criteria. The results of this study, show that missing people from the shore was the most important criterion for deployment of the drone. For ranking the local districts of the KCG, the ARAS is applied in the case study with the single goal of 50% reduction in marine casualties. Consequently, the highest priority district was identified as Mokpo, followed by Incheon, Seogwipo, Taean, Wando, Yeosu, Pohang, Tongyeong, Gunsan, Bolyeong, Jeju, Buan, Donghae, Sokcho, Ulsan, Uljin, Busan, Changwon, and Pyeongtaeg.

  • Asbestos is a toxic material that can lead to lung cancer and other diseases. There is no information regarding areas in Korea that contain asbestos in nature; consequently we need to manage such areas with care. The purpose of this study was to construct a local graded map of asbestos exposure risk based on the natural occurrence of asbestos in rocks. We first developed a means of evaluating the asbestos exposure risk and produced thematic maps based on a field survey. In addition, we constructed a knowledge base for asbestos through analysis, representation and processes about asbestos data and prepare for the development of an evaluation model for asbestos exposure risk. The spatial analysis of asbestos exposure risk is based on a weighted-overlay analysis using expert opinion and the literature, and a fuzzy-overlay analysis using the uncertainty in the data. The map of asbestos exposure risk, compiled according to the weighted and fuzzy operations, is expected to be used to ensure safety and to reduce the risk of exposure to asbestos.

Evaluation of Body Movement during Sleep with a Thermopile, Wavelets and Neuro-fuzzy Reasoning

  • Body movement is one of the important factors in sleep analysis. In this study, a thermopile detector with four channels was implemented as a non-contacting detector of body movement in sleep. Using a thermopile mathematical model and several frames of thermal images, the possibility of detecting body movement was evaluated. Instant body movement signals were evaluated for the upper, lower, and entire body using the Haar wavelet. This decomposition shows the points in time when the upper-body or lower-body movement occurred and the level of body movement. Additionally, partial body movement was decomposed in head-only, whole body, and leg-only movement using the ANFIS algorithm. Finally, three subject's data were evaluated for 60 minutes, and the detection rates of instant and partial body movement, on average, were 96.3% and 89.2%, respectively.

  • The aim of this paper is to establish the evaluation system of port logistics of Incheon using the QFD(Quality Function Deployment) model. The research methodology is consisted of four phases. The first step is to investigate the important factors consisting the port logistics of Incheon and then calculate the weighting of factors by Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The second step is to draw out the degree of inter-relation among factors by Fuzzy Subordination Relations (FSR). At the third step, the established system through the QFD method using results of the first and second steps will be used to evaluate and diagnosis the level of port logistics of Incheon. Finally, the sensitivity analysis will be performed and the degree of improving port logistics will be presented according to the rising the relevant factors.

  • In order to develop color image, color simulation based on data processing techniques has been developed and applied to data interpretation tools or product design supporting systems. It has been a commonmethod to use image key words to search for data and provide color coordination samples that determine computer combination in computerized support systems until recently. However, this method does not reflect system designers and users taste or preference on making final choices of color coordination samples because the database was designed based on an assumption of standardized group that was established database from large scaled image evaluation research. In this study, we suggest a color coordination simulator that supports designer's final decision-making procedure on sample groups through the simulation of various color combination. The simulator allows communications with the system to explore a designer's color combination taste and preference, and provides a user for an efficient environment to judge the optimum result. Defect Severity-based Ensemble Model using FCM (FCM을 적용한 결함심각도 기반 앙상블 모델)

  • Software defect prediction is an important factor in efficient project management and success. The severity of the defect usually determines the degree to which the project is affected. However, existing studies focus only on the presence or absence of a defect and not the severity of defect. In this study, we proposed an ensemble model using FCM based on defect severity. The severity of the defect of NASA data set's PC4 was reclassified. To select the input column that affected the severity of the defect, we extracted the important defect factor of the data set using Random Forest (RF). We evaluated the performance of the model by changing the parameters in the 10-fold cross-validation. The evaluation results were as follows. First, defect severities were reclassified from 58, 40, 80 to 30, 20, 128. Second, BRANCH_COUNT was an important input column for the degree of severity in terms of accuracy and node impurities. Third, smaller tree number led to more variables for good performance.

  • IMO(International Maritime Organization) and the Shipping World rave complied with various kinds of international regulations for maritime safety and marine environmental protection, but the main reason of maritime accidents is that developing countries cannot implement maritime safety related regulations. Although Korea has been a member of the "A group" council of IMO, maritime technology transfer records of Korea are not good. To promote the project of official development assistance in Korea, it is required to select the technology which has a high degree of importance in the fields of maritime safety and has a high degree of demand on the transfer to developing countries, and to concentrate on the selected technology. So, it is necessary to draw valuation factors for maritime safety technology and to decide the priority in order among maritime safety technologies on the basis of valuation factors. Because the weights which show the degree of importance among valuation factors are different from factor to factor, interdependent relationship between factors should be considered on evaluation. In this study, the valuation factors were divided into three groups as the maturity of maritime safety technology, the promotion probability of projects and the degree of importance of technology, and the detailed factors of each group were drawn. A model which used Fuzzy AHP and limiting probability to consider the weights of importance and correlation among valuation factors was developed. To adopt this model, nine types of maritime safety technology in the field of maritime safety information were selected and points were scored for each technology through evaluation. In conclusion, first, ENC related technology was scored to be the highest as 0.0139. Second, the point of ship monitoring technology was scored as 0.0133. Last, oil spill response technology was scored as 0.0132.

The Effect of FIR Filtering and Spectral Tilt on Speech Recognition with MFCC (FIR 필터링과 스펙트럼 기울이기가 MFCC를 사용하는 음성인식에 미치는 효과)

  • In an effort to enhance the quality of feature vector classification and thereby reduce the recognition error rate for the speaker-independent speech recognition, we study the effect of spectral tilt on the Fourier magnitude spectrum en route to the extraction of MFCC. The effect of FIR filtering on the speech signal on the speech recognition is also investigated in parallel. Evaluation of the proposed methods are performed by two independent ways of the Fisher discriminant objective function and speech recognition test by hidden Markov model with fuzzy vector quantization. From the experiments, the recognition error rate is found to show about 10% relative improvements over the conventional method by an appropriate choice of the tilt factor.

2-Input 2-Output ANFIS Controller for Trajectory Tracking of Mobile Robot (이동로봇의 경로추적을 위한 2-입력 2-출력 ANFIS제어기)

  • One approach of the control of a nonlinear system that has gained some success employs a fuzzy structure in cooperation with a neural network(ANFIS). The traditional ANFIS can only model and control the process in single-dimensional output nature in spite of multi-dimensional input. The membership function parameters are tuned using a combination of least squares estimation and back-propagation algorithm. In the case of a mobile robot, we need to drive left and right wheel respectively. In this paper, we proposed the control system architecture for a mobile robotic system that employs the 2-input 2-output ANFIS controller for trajectory tracking. Simulation results and preliminary evaluation show that the proposed architecture is a feasible one for mobile robotic systems.
