Purpose: The purpose of the study was to analyze the families values of the family with hospitalized children in order to offer descriptive data, which will facilitate family adjustment in those families. Method: It's intended in this study, as of descriptive approach, to verify the theoretical framework based on McCubbin's Resiliency Model and to examine the influence of family values on family adaptation. The survey was conducted from June 20, 2003 to November 30, 2003 and the analysis included 202 parents of the hospitalized children. The data analysis utilized SPSS 11.0 program. Result: The correlation coefficients among major variables showed that family stressor was positively related with family strains(r=.249, P<.01), and negatively related with family hardiness(r=-.183, P<.05). Family strains was negative related with general family value(r=-.243, p<.01), and family adaptation(r=-.505, P<.05). Correlations of general family value was positive with family hardness (r=.153, p<.05), and family adaptation (r=.200, p<.01). Conclusions: There was correlating relationship between family strains and family adaptation, and general family value showed correlation with family strains, family hardiness, and family adaptation. Theresfore the continuing future research on the relationship between family value and family adaption is necessary.
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of household type on the health- and food-related behavior of the elderly. The survey was conducted on 304 free-living elderly persons in Chun-Chon city in 1999. The subjects were divided into three groups by their household types : living alone (n=35), living with their spouses (n=59), and living with their extended family (n=191). The results were obtained by personal interviews using questionnaires. Compared to the group living with their spouses and/or extended families, the elderly living alone were : less satisfied with the amount of monthly pocket money available; less involved in social activities; taking less vitamin supplements; doing less physical exercise; more frequently skipping meals and dining out; less frequently consuming meats, vegetables, fruits and seaweed; and having the highest rate of depression. The elderly living with their spouses tended to have the best physical functions and the greatest ability to carry out basic daily activities. The elderly living with their extended families had a higher incidence of diseases compared to the other groups. The preferred snacks were cookies for the elderly living alone, and fruits for the other two groups. In summary, it has been shown that household type should be taken into consideration for formulating adequate future strategies for effective health and nutrition programs.
The quality of wood is largely depend on the characteristics of xylem tissue and their variation. They may include tracheid length, microfibril angle, distribution and amount of resin canal, as well as specific gravity as indicator of material properties. In this study, variation of these elements between and within 30 superior families of Pinus densifloa in progeny test forest were examined and the results are as follows; In terms of elongation ratio of tracheid length which is less than 1%, the sample tree showed a transition to matured wood after 13 years particularly in Kangwon 25, 30, 90, 56 and Chungnam 4 families. The average specific gravity were from 0.35 to 0.49, and differences between the families were significant. Number of transverse resin canal per unit area were also found to be significant between the families. The microfibril angles measured at 15th ring number ranged from 0.9 degree to 28.6 degree. More studies are necessary to tell whether these variation is inherited by genetic or individual characteristic. However it would be desirable that these elements be considered as key elements in the early stage of selection process of superior tree to ensure good quality of wood production in future.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of individual characteristics, family characteristics, job characteristics, and family strength on work-family spillover in dual-earner families focusing on users and non-user of Healthy Family Support Centers(HFSC). The subjects were 703 people who lived in Seoul and Gyeonggi-Do. The results were analyzed by using the PASW 21.0 program. The findings of this study led to the following conclusions: First, the users of HFSC showed a higher level of family strength than the non-users did. This is the users had a high level of awareness of family's values and importance compared to the non-users. Second, the users revealed higher levels at a positive spillover from work to family and from family to work than the non-users. Therefore, it is confirmed that the users have a positive view of work-family spillover due to their family strength. Finally, there was a significant result at the moderation effects of work-family spillover according to personal traits, family and job characteristics. Specifically, work-family negative spillover was effected family strength through the age of the users' children. The result suggest that family strength has positive effects on the family cycle. It will be worthwhile to pay attention in future research to discover what is the appropriate support for dual earner families.
The present study was intended to investigate ecological characteristics of poverty areas in Seoul from the perspectives of children's development. More specifically, the objectives of the study are to examine environmental ecology of the poverty areas and it's potential psycho-social development of children. Three poverty areas and 150 children currently living in the are as were sampled ; 70 children from middle class families and 88 from lower class respectively. Focal ecological aspects surveyed family environment, outdoor play ground and facilities, and village housing structures. Psycho-social dimension's development dealt with in the study included children's perceptions of parental child rearing practices and role taking, and children's future perception and perspectives. Data were collected through interviews and observations using structured formats. Following results were obtained from the data : 1. Children from the poverty families showed a higher tendency to have working mothers than those from middle class. 2. The rate of having single room is higher for children from middle class by two times than from lower class. 3. Children from lower class tended to have less favorable perceptions of attitudes tote and their own families than those from middle class. 4. The likelihood of showing discrepancy in vocational choice for children between parents and children is higher for children from lower class and those from middle class. 5. Children from lower class tended to allot more time in playing with peers than those from middle class. 6. The size of outdoor play ground are inadequately poor both for middle and lower class children. The inadequateness is particularly severe for the lower class children, showing that the size and facilities of playing ground available for the child from lower class is less than half compared with those of the children from middle class.
Objective: To review the literature on development in the peer relationships of the adolescents within the context of their parents' divorce. Method: The cognitive and sociocultural literature was searched to analyze the social interactions of the adolescents of divorced parents. Results: The evidence supports the variations in adolescents' peer relations based on their family structure. Comparisons with the adolescents of the nuclear families and the step-families suggest certain types of interactions the adolescents of divorced parents experience. Conclusions: Divorce of the parents is associated with the difficulties their children at adolescent experience, such as the higher level of social isolation among their peers or their incompetence in social skills. For there is not much known about the integration into the world of peers of the adolescents from the divorced families, while their general psychological and cognitive development after the separation is often studied, future study will need to focus on their peer interactions at their school environment and the social treatment for the possible hardships in their peer relations.
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to identify job definition, duties and tasks of Korean oncology Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) and assess frequency, importance, and difficulty for each of duty and task using the DACUM method. Methods: The DACUM committee was organized with nine oncology APNs. The committee documented the job definition, duties and tasks based on their daily job descriptions. Validity of the elicited duties and tasks was tested by a study team and 6 oncology APNs. Data were collected using a questionnaire survey from 53 oncology APNs. Results: The job description of oncology APNs was identified 12 duties and 66 tasks. Among the twelve duties, 'education for patients/families' was the most frequently performed and was the most important duty. 'Case management' was the most difficult duty. Among 66 tasks, 'providing education for patients/families' was most frequently performed. 'Providing education for patients/families' and 'assessing patient condition comprehensively' were the most important tasks. 'Implementation research' as the principal investigator was perceived as the most difficult task. Conclusion: In this study, Korean oncology APNs' job performances were identified and analyzed. It is recommended that job description for oncology APNs needs to be standardized and reshaped in advanced way in future.

This study examined the multicultural efficacy and job satisfaction of multicultural family visiting instructors. The subjects were 750 visiting instructors from 140 multicultural family support centers in Seoul, 6 metropolitan cities, 9 provinces, and other cities and counties. Data were analyzed through frequency, percentages, Pearson's correlations, One-way ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$ post-hoc test, independent t-test, and stepwise multi-regression using PASW 18.0. The findings are as follows. First, there were statistically significant differences in all subscales of multicultural efficacy according to the teaching experiences of the multicultural family visiting instructors. On the other hand, there was a statistically significant difference only in trust in the relationships with multicultural families according to the teaching experiences of the multicultural family visiting instructors. Meanwhile, the independent t-test showed that there was a significant difference only in satisfaction regarding treatment and salary according to the assigned work. Second, the stepwise multi-regression models revealed that three subscales (job performance, trust in the relationships with the multicultural families, job aptitude) of job satisfaction were influenced by multicultural efficacy according to both the teaching experiences and assigned work, but this was no the case for satisfaction about treatment and salary. Regardles of teaching experience or assigned work, teaching efficacy in multicultural efficacy affected all subscales of job satisfaction except for satisfaction about treatment and salary. The implications for future studies are also discussed.

This paper deals with construction of a new administrative city in Naju. This kind of cities are commonly called as 'innovation city' in Korea. This is an experimental regional development program for non-Capital regions. State-owned corporations and public agencies are going to be relocated in the cities. Whether the employees will settle down in Naju with their families is the main research question in this paper. The result of the survey shows that more than half of the respondents are not going to settle down with their families. They are not optimistic about the present and future of the city either. In order to induce in-migration with families, educational environment need to be improved. To help their children to have more chance to talk with native English speakers is one of the examples. Facilities for the illed and the old are also necessary.
This study was done to suggest basic modifications in the present situation for the family of women in labour which is a separation management method. The study design was a descriptive study. The number of the subjects were 80. they were husbands, mothers in law, and mothers of women in labour who were full term and for whom there were no complications, either for the mother or the fetus. Data collection was done with a structured questionnaire which was analyzed using frequencies. The results were as follows, 1. Most of the subjects(95.0%) wanted to participate in the labour process. 2. The subjects wanted to support the women in labour by way of encouraging(95.0%), consoling (95.0%), listening to(75.0%), praying with(68.8%), hand holding(97.5%), stroking(63.8%), helping with respiration control(50.0%), maintaining relaxation(46.3%), changing position(58.8%), and illustration (58.8 %). 3. The subjects answered that they expected their participation to have the effect of an easier labour course(52.5%), security for the women in labour(95.0%), and providing a better relationship between the women in labour(66.3%) and the new baby(55.0%). 4. The priority of the response as to who is the best supporter was husband, and mother of the women in labour in that order. It can be concluded that nurses maintained a management method which ignored the needs of the families of women in labour. If given consideration is to be given to these subjects, future programs should initiate ways to let the families participate in the labour process.
