  • A tritium breeder is a lithium-based material capable of producing tritium. Many researchers designing nuclear-fusion energy are studying tritium production using pebbles, which are solid-type breeders. The sphericity and size of the pebbles are critical in obtaining pebbles with good tritium-breeding efficiency. Furthermore, tritium-release efficiency can be increased by using pebbles with appropriate porosities. Promising raw materials for tritium-breeding materials include Li4SiO4 and Li2TiO3. Li4SiO4 has a higher lithium density than Li2TiO3 and exhibits excellent tritium-breeding efficiency. However, it has the disadvantage of being easily decomposed during the Li4SiO4-green-pebble sintering process because of its low structural stability at high temperatures and high lithium density. In this study, we attempted to determine the optimal conditions for manufacturing Li4SiO4 pebbles using the droplet-freeze-drying method. The optimal Li4SiO4 slurry conditions and sintering temperatures were determined. The optimal Li4SiO4 slurry-fabrication conditions were 3 wt% polyvinyl alcohol and 75 wt% Li4SiO4 based on the deionized-water weight content. The sintering temperature at which Li4SiO4 did not decompose and exhibited the optimum porosity of 10.8% was 900 ℃.

  • Objective: Reconstructed oocytes after polar body genome transfer constitute a potential therapeutic option for patients with a history of embryo fragmentation and advanced maternal age. However, the rescue of genetic material from the first polar body (PB1) through introduction into the donor cytoplasm is not yet ready for clinical application. Methods: Eighty-five oocytes were obtained following in vitro maturation (IVM) and divided into two groups: PB1 nuclear transfer (PB1NT; n=54) and control (n=31). Following enucleation and PB1 genomic transfer, PB1 fusion was assessed. Subsequently, all fused oocytes underwent intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and were cultured in an incubator under a time-lapse monitoring system to evaluate fertilization, embryonic morphokinetic parameters, and cleavage patterns. Results: Following enucleation and fusion, 77.14% of oocytes survived, and 92.59% of polar bodies (PBs) fused. However, the normal fertilization rate was lower in the PB1NT group than in the control group (56.41% vs. 92%, p=0.002). No significant differences were observed in embryo kinetics between the groups, but a significant difference was detected in embryo developmental arrest after the four-cell stage, along with abnormal cleavage division in the PB1NT group. This was followed by significant between-group differences in the implantation potential rate and euploidy status. Most embryos in the PB1NT group had at least one abnormal cleavage division (93.3%, p=0.001). Conclusion: Fresh PB1NT oocytes successfully produced normal zygotes following PB fusion and ICSI in IVM oocytes. However, this was accompanied by low efficiency in developing into cleavage embryos, along with an increase in abnormal cleavage patterns.

  • Wafer level package technology is added to the surface of wafer circuit packages to create a semiconductor technology that can minimize the size of the package. However, in conventional packaging, warpage and fracture are major concerns for semiconductor manufacturing. We optimized the wafer dam design using a finite element method according to the dam height and heat distribution thermal properties. The dam design influences the uniform deposition of the image sensor and prevents the filling material from overflowing. In this study, finite element analysis was employed to determine the key factors that may affect the reliability performance of the dam package. Three-dimensional finite element models were constructed using the simulation software ANSYS to perform the dam thermo-mechanical simulation and analysis.

  • Numerical studies were performed to examine the effects of notch location of impact specimens on the failure behavior of HAZ (heat affected zone) when Charpy V-notch impact test were made at a low temperature ($1^{\circ}C$). Carbon steel plate (SA-516 Gr. 70) with thickness of 25mm for pressure vessel was welded by SMAW (shielded metal-arc welding) and specimens were fabricated from the welded plate. Charpy tests were then performed with specimens having different notch positions of specimens varying from the fusion line through HAZ to base metal. A series of finite element analysis which simulates the Charpy test and crack propagation initiating at the tip of V-notch was carried out as well. The finite element analysis takes into account the irregular fusion line and non-homogenous material properties due to the notch location of the specimen in HAZ. Results reveals that the energies absorbed during impact test depend significantly on the notch location and direction of specimen. Finite element analysis also demonstrates that the notch location of specimens, to a great extent, influences the reliability and consistency of the test.

  • Noncontact direct-printed conductive silver patterns with an enhanced electrical resistivity are fabricated using a silver ink with a mixture of silver nanoparticles and nanoplates. The microstructure and electrical resistivity of the silver pattern are systematically investigated as a function of the mixing ratio of the nanoparticles and nanoplates. The pattern, which is fabricated using a mixture with a mixing ratio of 3(nanoparticles):7(nanoplates) and sintered at $200^{\circ}C$ shows a highly dense and well-sintered microstructure and has a resistivity of $7.60{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$. This originates a mutual synergistic effect through a combination of the sinterability of the nanoparticles and the packing ability of the nanoplates. This is a conductive material that can be used to fabricate noncontact direct-printed conductive patterns with excellent electrical conductivity for various flexible electronics applications, including solar cells, displays, RFIDs, and sensors.

  • Poria cocos is an importantant medical macrofungus, the sclerotium of Poria cocos has specific value as the drug material. There are few papers about its breeding and spawn rejuvenation. In this project, the protoplasts of cultivated strain T and wild strain L were prepared and treated separately by ultraviolet and heating, then fused with the PEG6000. The tural fusants were selected and identified by the affinity and ISSR analysis. 71 incompatibility strains between parents and reg regenerations were obtained from 118 regenerations by the affinity analysis. Five incompatibility strains were amplified with different primers, the results were showed that they had specific bands of both parents in the profile amplified with 3 primers, which proved these 5 strains were fusants by means of molecular biology marker. On the other hand, 25 strain were selected from 168 protoplast regenerations of cultivated strain T for cultivation experiment. The fresh sclerotium weight of these protoplast regenerations were better than the original strain.significantil 3 strains (T-1, T-4, T-7) increased respectively 118%, 73% and 73% than original strain. This method could be the effective in the rejuvenation Poria cocos.

  • Recently, 3D printing technology is a hot issue in various industrial fields. According to the user's application, it allows for the free form fabrication method to be utilized in a wide range. The powder based fusion technique is one of the 3D printing methods. When using this method it is possible to apply the various binder jetting techniques such as piezo, thermal bubble jet, dispenser and so on. In this paper, a multi thermal bubble ink jet was integrated for jetting of powder binding material and developing a power fused 3D printing system. For high quality 3D printing parts, it needs an analysis and evaluation of the behavior of the thermal bubble ink jet head. In the experiment, a correlation between jetting binder quantity and layer thickness of powder was investigated, and a 3D part model was fabricated, which was used by measuring the scale factor.

  • We have successfully fabricated high strengthening Cu/STS/Cu 3 layered clad metal of $70kgf/mm^2$ grade for electric device lead frame, and investigated thermal effect of the mechanical and physical properties on the Cu/STS/Cu 3 layered clad metal lead frame material at different temperatures ranging from RT to $200^{\circ}C$. The fabricated clad metal shows a good thermal stability under 6% degrading of mechanical tensile strength and hardness change at $200^{\circ}C$ and also physical properties show stable thermal and electrical conductance of over $220W/m{\cdot}K$ and 58.44% IACS upto the $200^{\circ}$. The results confirm that fabricated high strengthening Cu/STS/Cu 3 layered clad metal can be applied for the high performed electrical lead frame devices.

  • In this study, the tribology of laser patterned DLC thin film was studied. DLC thin films were coated by RF-PECVD to improve the durability of tungsten carbide (WC) materials. DLC thin films have high hardness and low friction characteristics. Dot and line patterning was processed on the surface of DLC thin film with femtosecond laser, and the coefficient of friction was improved. As a result of ball on disk abrasion test, the hardness and friction coefficient of DLC thin films were much better than that of WC material. The friction coefficient of DLC thin film with dot patterning and line patterning showed better results. The excellent performance of the laser patterned DLC coating is appeared to reduce the coefficient of friction due to the reduction of surface contact area.

  • Carbon and carbon-based materials are used in nuclear reactors and there has recently been growing interest to develop graphite and carbon based materials for high temperature nuclear and fusion reactors. Efforts are underway to develop high density carbon materials as well as amorphous isotropic carbon for the application in thermal reactors. There has been research on coated nuclear fuel for high temperature reactor and research and development on coated fuels are now focused on fuel particles with high endurance during normal lifetime of the reactor. Since graphite as a moderator as well as structural material in high temperature reactors is one of the most favored choices, it is now felt to develop high density isotropic graphite with suitable coating for safe application of carbon based materials even in oxidizing or water vapor environment. Carboncarbon composite materials compared to conventional graphite materials are now being looked into as the promising materials for the fusion reactor due their ability to have high thermal conductivity and high thermal shock resistance. This paper deals with the application of carbon materials on various nuclear reactors related issues and addresses the current need for focused research on novel carbon materials for future new generation nuclear reactors.
