  • In this paper we propose a noise reduction algorithm which based on cellular automata with the local median rule. It is supposed that there is no information about the features of the image that must be improved. The proposed method behavior is to locally increase or decrease the gray level differences of the image without loss of the main characteristics of the image. The dynamical behavior of these automata is completely determined by Lyapunov operators for sequential and parallel update. We have found that the automata present very fast convergence to fixed points, stability in front of random noisy images. Based on the experimental results we discuss the advantage and efficiency.

  • This study was aimed to make clear fashion is an expression art displaying not only functional or commercial aspects, but creative functions as an artistic work by analyzing Art Mode and its values, and to help develop more creative design by combining fashion with art. In terms of method, relevant documents, precedent studies, and the works announced in domestic and foreign fashion collections, such as Vogue, Fashion News, Gap, and Collections from 2000 to 2009. According to the findings, artistic works were used by the Art Mode in modern fashion. The respect of artists was expressed using historic famous painting works or current works in various fields, designers' individuality was shown by directly applying work messages to clothes, and fashion design was converted into a tool to communicate the messages like artistic works. Second, the various styles, using the formative character of modern art styles from animalism to modern abstractism, showed the creativity of design, transformed art into the art that enables to see the image of modern art, and presented the possibility of developing into a newer creative design through the application of numerous art styles and the transformation of ideas. Third, the collaboration with artists was used. Fashion designers or fashion brands tried to change the images of works or brands in partnership with artists or to increase differentiated images. The future direction of fashion is a pursuit of new form and content to express fashion, not simply to use artistic works. It is expected that such pursuit will lead to more creative and artistic fashion design.

  • Neuronal connectivity determines brain function. Therefore, understanding the full map of brain connectivity with functional annotations is one of the most desirable but challenging tasks in science. Current methods to achieve this goal are limited by the resolution of imaging tools and the field of view. Macroscale imaging tools (e.g., magnetic resonance imaging, diffusion tensor images, and positron emission tomography) are suitable for large-volume analysis, and the resolution of these methodologies is being improved by developing hardware and software systems. Microscale tools (e.g., serial electron microscopy and array tomography), on the other hand, are evolving to efficiently stack small volumes to expand the dimension of analysis. The advent of mesoscale tools (e.g., tissue clearing and single plane ilumination microscopy super-resolution imaging) has greatly contributed to filling in the gaps between macroscale and microscale data. To achieve anatomical maps with gene expression and neural connection tags as multimodal information hubs, much work on information analysis and processing is yet required. Once images are obtained, digitized, and cumulated, these large amounts of information should be analyzed with information processing tools. With this in mind, post-imaging processing with the aid of many advanced information processing tools (e.g., artificial intelligence-based image processing) is set to explode in the near future, and with that, anatomic problems will be transformed into informatics problems.

  • Positron emission tomography (PET) is widely used imaging modality for effective and accurate functional testing and medical diagnosis using radioactive isotopes. However, PET has difficulties in acquiring images with high image quality due to constraints such as the amount of radioactive isotopes injected into the patient, the detection time, the characteristics of the detector, and the patient's motion. In order to overcome this problem, we have succeeded to improve the image quality by using the dynamic image reconstruction method based on singular value decomposition. However, there is still some question about the characteristics of the proposed technique. In this study, the characteristics of reconstruction method based on singular value decomposition was estimated over computational simulation. As a result, we confirmed that the singular value decomposition based reconstruction technique distinguishes the images well when the signal - to - noise ratio of the input image is more than 20 decibels and the feature vector angle is more than 60 degrees. In addition, the proposed methode to estimate the characteristics of reconstruction technique can be applied to other spatio-temporal feature based dynamic image reconstruction techniques. The deduced conclusion of this study can be useful guideline to apply medical image into SVD based dynamic image reconstruction technique to improve the accuracy of medical diagnosis.

  • Diffusion tensor images were obtained for middle-aged men according to the AUDIT-K scale. As a result of the fractional anisotropy (FA) value of the gyrus nerve fibers in the brain region measured and analyzed by the Tract-Based Spatial Statics, FA values of general drinkers were measured lower than those of estimated alcohol use disabled people. This was statistically significant. In other words, the use of alcohol significantly affects the anatomic microstructural changes measured in the Gyrus of the brain region, and it may damage the nerve fiber tract and affect the functional abnormalities associated with it.

  • Magnetic resonance neurography (MRN) is increasingly used to visualize peripheral nerves in vivo. However, the implementation and interpretation of MRN in the brachial and lumbosacral plexi are challenging because of the anatomical complexity and technical limitations. The purpose of this article was to review the clinical context of MRN, describe advanced magnetic resonance (MR) techniques for plexus imaging, and list the general categories of utility of MRN with pertinent imaging examples. The selection and optimization of MR sequences are centered on the homogeneous suppression of fat and blood vessels while enhancing the visibility of the plexus and its branches. Standard 2D fast spin-echo sequences are essential to assess morphology and signal intensity of nerves. Moreover, nerve-selective 3D isotropic images allow improved visualization of nerves and multiplanar reconstruction along their course. Diffusion-weighted and diffusion-tensor images offer microscopic and functional insights into peripheral nerves. The interpretation of MRN in the brachial and lumbosacral plexi should be based on a thorough understanding of their anatomy and pathophysiology. Anatomical landmarks assist in identifying brachial and lumbosacral plexus components of interest. Thus, understanding the varying patterns of nerve abnormalities facilitates the interpretation of aberrant findings.

  • This study examines the relationship between the concern about well-being lifestyle and the perceived image of Hanji fiber. A survey was conducted among male and female consumers aged 20 and over in Jeonju and Daejon from January 4th to 11th, 2008. A total of 168 responses were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and ANOVA via the SPSS ver. 12. As a result, four factors were determined in the concern for a well-being lifestyle; product consumption, enjoying culture, using therapy and managing the household. The perceived image of Hanji fiber were classified into four elements; traditional, high-quality, functional and popular images. Among the factors of the concern for a well-being lifestyle and the perceived image of Hanji fibers, a partial relationship was observed. There is a positive relationship, especially between the product consumption factor of a well-being lifestyle and the high-quality and functional image of Hanji fiber. Also, there was a positive relationship between the factor of managing the household and the traditional image of Hanji fiber. However, the therapy interest factor of a well-being lifestyle was negatively related to the traditional image of Hanji fiber.

  • Baicalin is a flavonoid derived from the dried root of Scutellaria baicalensis. In this study, oxygen-induced retinopathy was used to characterize the anti-angiogenic properties of baicalin in mice. Pups were exposed to a hyperbaric oxygen environment to induce retinal angiogenesis and were subjected to intraperitoneal injection of baicalin. Avascular area, neovascular tufts, and neovascular lumens were quantified from digital images. Compared to the vehicle, baicalin clearly reduced the central avascular zone and the number of neovascular tufts and lumens. High-dose baicalin (10 mg/kg) significantly reduced the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), MMP-9, angiotensin II, and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). These results show that baicalin is a powerful antiangiogenic compound that attenuates new vessel formation in the retina after systemic administration, and is a candidate substance for therapeutic inhibition of retinal angiogenesis. • Understanding the reaction mechanisms and structures underlying the adsorption of biomolecules on semiconductors is important for functionalizing semiconductor surfaces for various bioapplications. Herein, we describe the characteristic behavior of a primary nucleobase adsorbed on the semiconductor Ge(100). The adsorption configuration of guanine, a primary nucleobase found in DNA and RNA, on the semiconductor Ge(100) at an atomic level was investigated using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. When adsorbed on Ge(100) at room temperature, guanine appears dark in STM images, indicating that the adsorption of guanine on Ge(100) occurs through N-H dissociation. In addition, DFT calculations revealed that "N(1)-H dissociation through an O dative bonded structure" is the most favorable adsorption configuration of all the possible ones. We anticipate that the characterization of guanine adsorbed on Ge(100) will contribute to the development of semiconductor-based biodevices.
