  • Objectives: Nail salon owners in New York City (NYC) are required to provide their workers with gloves and it is their responsibility to maintain healthy, safe working spaces for their employees. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency with which nail salon workers wear protective gloves. Methods: A Freedom of Information Law request was submitted to New York Department of State's Division of Licensing Services for a full list of nail salons in Manhattan, NYC. A sample population of 800 nail salons was identified and a simple random sample (without replacement) of 30% (n=240) was selected using a random number generator. Researchers visited each nail salon from October to December of 2015, posing as a potential customer to determine if nail salon workers were wearing gloves. Results: Among the 169 salons in which one or more workers was observed providng services, a total of 562 workers were observed. For 149 salons, in which one or more worker was observed providing services, none of the workers were wearing gloves. In contrast, in six of the salons observed, in which one or more workers was providing services, all of the workers (1 in 2 sites, 2 in 1 site, 3 in 2 sites, and 4 in 1 site) were wearing gloves. Almost three-quarters of the total number of workers observed (n=415, 73.8%) were not wearing gloves. Conclusions: The findings of this study indicate that, despite recent media attention and legislation, the majority of nail salon workers we observed were not wearing protective gloves when providing services.

  • The aim of the present study was to determine the effects of soil microbial agent with red ginseng marc on growth of watermelon during 5 months. The three treatments were distributed in a completely randomized design with four replicates per plot. After 1 week in planting dates, the growth of watermelon (full length, stem thichness, leaf length and lead width) showed no significant difference in all treatments. During elongation stage (20 days), soil microbial agent with red ginseng marc was increased by 5% in leaf thickness (May 23) and 7~14% in leaf length (May 16 and 23) when compared to other treatments. For changes in fruit bearing thickness, there were no differences among treatments. Characteristics of watermelon in harvest season have an effect on harvest and length, stalk length, naval length, weight, sugar content and yield, except for harvest and width. In particular, yields increased with treatments with two soil microbial agent (7~12%), indicating that soil microbial agent with red ginseng marc showed higher yield than the other treatments. In conclusion, red ginseng marc-treated soil microbial agents have a positive effect on the harvest season of watermelon and can provide useful information for the selection of the functional microbial properties and the registration of microbial fertilizer.

  • The following research analyzed the sewing teaching of the tailored jacket shown in fashion textbooks, which are currently used in universities and educational organizations in the fashion industry. To analyze the sewing teaching of tailored jackets, we analyzed 35 textbooks in the market. Among them we used 14 textbooks which dealt with the patter formation method of tailored jackets, and cutting and sewing methods. First, the stitching direction and the location of attachment varied. The type of sticking tape and its position also differed, emphasizing the need to make an institutionalized education material which is based on the characteristic of the fabric and its silhouette. Second, controlling the ease length of the right side sewing princess line, or information about the shoulder line and sleeve line of the notch as not specifically shown in the textbooks. Furthermore, not many textbooks showed how to pull the lower part of the texture out of sight, nor did they explain why this needed to be done. Third, the lining is usually slightly larger than the outer texture of the clothing, as the lining is usually tugged in the sewing process, and this method makes the clothes more comfortable. The method of sewing the princessline $0.2{\sim}0.3cm$ outside the outer pattern was the most recommended. The center-back side was usually 2cm in activity measurements, but it turned out that a textbook which required ease treatment on the shoulder line did not do so on the lining material. The textbooks used in this research dealt only with how to manufacture a tailored jacket without full explanation about textures which could influence the manufacturing. The production method and process differed between different textbooks, showing the need to make a institutionalized education material. In a quickly-changing era where there is rapid change in the dressmaking procedure, we need to help students understand the process more easily through a formalized education process.

  • In clinical SPECT, FWHM provides quality information of the images obtained under different observing conditions. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the optimum cut off level with comparison of FWHM according to cut off levels in each filter - Band limited, Sheep-Logan, Hanning, Hamming, Low pass cosine, Parazen and Butterworth filter in a SPECT camera. I recorded images along the X, Y, Z-axis with 99mTcO4 point source and measured FWHM with profile curves. In conclusion, all filters showed the longest figures of FWHM with cut off level 0.4, which has the worst image resolution. The images with cut off level 0.7 showed best image resolution. The shortest average of FWHM in MS2 was $11.07\pm0.07mm$ using the Butterworth filter, in MS3 it was $8.44\pm0.19mm$ through using the Hanning filter.

  • After the launch of MPEG-2, it is widely used in multimedia applications like a Digital-TV or a DVD. Then, After the launch of H.264 at 2004, it has been expected to replace MPEG-2 and services IPTV and DMB. As we have been used to MPEG-2 devices by this time, we can not access H.264 Broadcast with MPEG-2 device. So We propose a new approach to transcode H.264 video into MPEG-2 form which can facilitate to display H.264 video with MPEG-2 device. To reduce the quality loss by transcoding, we use CPDT(Cascaded Pixel Domain Transcoder) structure. And to minimize processing time, SKIP block, INTRA block and motion vectors obtain from decoding process is employed for transcoding. we use BMA(Boundary Matching Algorithm) to select only one from candidate motion vectors. Experimental results show a considerable improved PSNR with reduction in processing time compared with existing methods.

  • The signals obtained from the $5^{th}$-order (two-dimensional) Raman spectrum of a liquid can depend dramatically on the polarizations of the various light beams, but to date there has been no evidence presented that different polarization conditions probe any fundamentally different aspects of liquid dynamics. In order to explore the molecular significance of polarization we have carried out a molecular dynamics simulation of the $5^{th}$-order spectrum of a dilute solution of CS₂ in liquid Xe, perhaps the simplest system capable of displaying a full range of polarization dependencies. By focusing on the 5 distinct rotational invariants revealed by the different polarizations and by comparing our results with those from liquid Xe, a liquid whose spectrum has no significant polarization dependence, we discovered that the polarization experiments do, in fact, yield valuable microscopic information. With different linear combinations of the experimental response functions one can separate the part of the signal derived from the purely interaction-induced part of the many-body polarizability from the portion with the largest contributions from single-molecule polarizabilities. This division does not directly address the underlying liquid dynamics, but it significantly simplifies the interpretation of the theoretical calculations which do address this issue. We find that the different linear combinations differ as well in whether they exhibit nodal lines. Despite the absence of nodes with the atomic liquid Xe, observing the resilience of our solution's nodes when we artificially remove the anisotropy of our solute leads us to conclude that there is no direct connection between nodes and specifically molecular degrees of freedom.

  • A Novel fully-differential bipolar current subtracter(FCS) and its application to current controlled current amplifier(CCCA) for high-accuracy current-mode signal processing were designed. To obtain full-differential current output, the FCS was symmetrically composed of two current follower with low current-input impedance. The CCCA to control output current by the bias current was consisted of the subtracter and a current gain amplifier(CGA) with single-ended current output.. The simulation result shows that the FCS has current-input impedance of 5 Ω and a good linearity. The CCCA has 3-dB cutoff frequency of 20 MHz for the range over bias current 100 $\mu$A to 20 mA. The power dissipation of the FCS and CCCA are 1.8 mW and 3 mW, respectively.

  • We show for the first time the optical properties of the selectively oxidized vertical cavity laser (VCL) - depleted optical thyristor (DOT), which has not only a low threshold current, but also a high sensitivity to the optical input light. In order to analyze their switching characteristics, nonlinear s-shaped current-voltage characteristics are calculated and the reverse full-depletion voltages (Vneg's) are obtained as function of semiconductor parameters by using a finite difference method (FDM). The selectively oxidized PnpN VCL-DOT clearly shows the nonlinear s-shaped current-voltage and lasing characteristics. A switching voltage of 5.24 V, a holding voltage of 1.50 V, a spectral response at 854.5 nm, and a very low threshold current of 0.65 mA is measured, making these devices attractive for optical processing applications.

  • In this paper, an efficient SAD(Sum of Absolute Differences) processor structure for motion estimation of H.264 is proposed. SAD processors are commonly used both in full search methods for motion estimation and in fast search methods for motion estimation. Proposed structure consists of SAD calculator block, combinator block, and minimum value calculator block. Especially, proposed structure is simplified by using Distributed Arithmetic for addition operation. The Verilog-HDL(Hard Description Language) coding and FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) implementation results for the proposed structure show 39% and 32% gate count reduction in comparison with those of the conventional structure, respectively. Due to its efficient processing scheme, the proposed SAD processor structure can be widely used in size dominant H.264 chip.

  • A 2-stage MMIC(monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits) LNA(Low Noise Amplifiers) at 30GHz hand has been designed and fabricated for the Ka-band Satellite Communications. The $0.15 {\mu}m$ with the width of $80 {\mu}m$ pHEMT technology was used for the fabrication of this MMIC LNA. Using the series feedback technique, ultra low noise and excellent S11 could be obtained at the same time without the cost of gain at 30GHz-band. The stability factors(Ks) for each stage and overall stage are greater than 1 at full frequency bands by the bias circuits and stabilization circuit. The measured performances, which agree well with the predicted performances, show this 2-stage MMIC LNA has the gain of more than 15.7dB and noise figure of less than 2.09dB over 29GHz to 33GHz.
