Real-Time Motion Blur Using Triangular Motion Paths

  • This paper introduces a new algorithm that renders motion blur using triangular motion paths. A triangle occupies a set of pixels when moving from a position in the start of a frame to another position in the end of a frame. This is a motion path of a moving triangle. For a given pixel, we use a motion path of each moving triangle to find a range of time that this moving triangle is visible to the camera. Then, we sort visible time ranges in the depth-time dimensions and use bitwise operations to solve the occlusion problem. Thereafter, we compute an average color of each moving triangle based on its visible time range. Finally, we accumulate an average color of each moving triangle in the front-to-back order to produce the final pixel color. Thus, our algorithm performs shading after the visibility test and renders motion blur in real time.

Compact near-eye display for firefighter's self-contained breathing apparatus

  • We introduce a display for virtual-reality (VR) fire training. Firefighters prefer to wear and operate a real breathing apparatus while experiencing full visual immersion in a VR fire space. Thus, we used a thin head-mounted display (HMD) with a light field and folded optical system, aiming to both minimize the volume for integration in front of the face into a breathing apparatus and maintain adequate visibility, including a wide viewing angle and resolution similar to that of commercial displays. We developed the optical system testing modules and prototypes of the integrated breathing apparatus. Through iterative testing, the thickness of the output optical module in front of the eyes was reduced from 50 mm to 60 mm to less than 20 mm while maintaining a viewing angle of 103°. In addition, the resolution and image quality degradation of the light field in the display was mitigated. Hence, we obtained a display with a structure consistent with the needs of firefighters in the field. In future work, we will conduct user evaluation regarding fire scene reproducibility by combining immersive VR fire training and real firefighting equipment.

시공간 GPS자료를 활용한 연속차량 3대의 차량추종모형 파라메터 추정과 차량틴팅의 영향분석 (Three-Car following model parameter estimation and vehicle tinting impact analysis using time-space GPS data)

  • 운전자는 바로 앞에서 주행하는 차량과 그 앞에서 주행하는 차량에 영향을 받는다는 것은 일반적으로 알려져 있다. 앞차를 통해서 그 앞차까지도 볼 수 있는 경우에는 해당차량에 대해서도 반응을 하면서 운전을 한다고 추정되며 이러한 추종모형을 Three-Car-Following Model이라고 한다. 차량군에서 가장 뒤에 따라가는 운전자의 가시권 확보가 차량틴팅에 영향을 받으므로, 모형의 파라메터도 영향을 받게 될 것으로 추정되며, Three-Car-Following Model이 가정하는 운전자는 앞차, 그리고 또 그 앞차의 주행상태에 반응한다는 것을 반증하는 결과가 될 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 Three-Car-Following Model의 파라메터를 추정하고, 차량의 틴팅정도가 달라질 때, 파라메터값이 어떻게 달라지는지에 대한 분석을 수행하였다. RTK GPS를 통해 수집된 자료를 이용하여 3대 차량간의 가시광선 투과율별 민감도 및 ${\gamma}$ 분석을 시행하였으며, 통계적 검증을 통해 운전자가 바로 앞에 주행하는 차량뿐만 아니라 그 앞에서 주행하는 차량에도 영향을 받는다는 것을 확 인하였다. 또한, 틴팅으로 가시광선 투과율이 낮아지면 가시권이 줄어들고, 이로 인해 앞차량들의 운전행태에 더욱 민감한 반응을 보이는 것으로 확인하였다. 차량의 틴팅정도에 따라 교통류의 용량에 미치는 영향분석에 관한 연구는 향후 과제로 남긴다.

GPU를 이용한 이미지 기반 충돌검사 (Image-based Collision Detection on GPU)

  • This paper presents an image-space algorithm to real-time collision detection, which is run completely by GPU. For a single object or for multiple objects with no collision, the front and back faces appear alternately along the view direction. However, such alternation is violated when objects collide. Based on these observations, the algorithm has been devised, and the implementation utilizes the state-of-the-art functionalities of GPU such as framebuffer objects(FBO), vertex buffer object(VBO) and occlusion query. The experimental results show the feasibility of GPU-intensive collision detection and its performance gain in real-time applications such as 3D games.

Another Quantum Eraser Experiment with Two-photon States of Light

  • The quantum eraser experiment was revisited, using entangled photons of visible light in a Hong-Ou-Handel type interferometer with a magnitude two orders higher than before in count rates. We introduced which-path information by polarization and subsequently erasied this information by means of polarizers in front of detectors. It was found that the visibility of the interference fringe is revived from 0% to 88% as the polarizers are changed from 0$^{\circ}$ to 45$^{\circ}$.

강교량 재도장 로봇의 모니터링 모듈 시제품 개발 (Development of a Prototype Monitoring Module for Steel Bridge Repainting Robots)

  • With the need for efficient maintenance technology to reduce maintenance costs for steel bridges, repainting robots are being developed to automate the work in narrow and poor bridge spaces. The repainting robot is equipped with a blasting module to remove paint layers and contaminants. This study developed a prototype monitoring module to be mounted on the repainting robot. The monitoring module analyzes the condition of the painting surface through a camera installed in the front, guides the direction of movement of the robot, and provides the operator with a video to check the working status after blasting through a camera installed in the back. Various image visibility enhancement technologies were applied to the monitoring module to overcome worksite challenges where incomplete lighting and dust occurs.

"영광 법성진 숲쟁이" 의 특성 분석과 경관관리 문제점 고찰 (The Characteristics of "Wooded Fortress of Beopseongjin in Yeonggwang" and Perspectives on the Problems of Landscape Management)

  • Beopseongpo has been one of the most thriving ports of the Jeolla region since the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392). During the time of King Seongjong (r. 1469-1494) of Choseon Dynasty, a navy garrison had been deployed and the port was named Beopseongjin, as recorded in the 1485 edition of Grand code for state administration (Gyeongguk daejeon). Dangsan forests and Bibo forests have been maintained by local residents since hundreds of years ago. Dangsan forests have been applied to the scale of government and public offices. The objectives of this study were to understand the characteristics of the "Wooded Fortress of Beopseongjin in Yeonggwang" as "Scenic Site No. 22", and to investigate the conservational problem of the wooded fortress of Beopseongjin and seashore. The "Wooded fortress of Beopseongjin in Yeonggwang" consists of a Dangsan forest and two Bibo forests. But, the presence of the Dangsan forest has not been well known to the public. Although the wooded fortress has been somewhat disturbed by cultural activities, the Dangsan rituals have been held until the present every January 15 by lunar calendar. On the other hand, the seashore in front of Beopseongpo plays an important role as a scenic view. It was one of the reason that the "Wooded fortress of Beopseongjin in Yeonggwang" had been designated as a national cultural property of "Scenic Sites". However, the sandbar was reclaimed in 2009 to build commercial buildings. An integrated plan should be prepared to conserve the landscape of "Wooded fortress of Beopseongjin in Yeonggwang", which requires close partnership among local residents, experts, and local government. At present, four new buildings have been built. Although we have lost the sandbar, it is indispensable to secure the visibility of Wooded Fortress of Beopseongjin at the entrance of the village.

주행 중 운전자의 HUD 인지성과 활용성 평가 (Evaluation for the cognition and usability of HUD while driving)

  • 자동차사고의 주요 원인으로 운전자의 주의분산이 지목됨이 따라 운전자의 전방주시율을 높여주는 HUD(Head Up Display)에 대한 중요성이 높아지고 있다. 최근에는 다양한 콘텐츠가 포함된 HUD 제품들이 등장하면서 주행중 인지부하가 증가할 가능성이 높아졌다. 이에 본 논문은 현재 자동차에 사용되고 있는 HUD에 제시된 콘텐츠가 운전자에게 미치는 영향에 대해 알아보기 위하여 조도환경과 성별의 차이를 두어 인지적 측면과 활용적 측면에 대한 실험을 진행하였다. 실험 결과, HUD가 제공하는 콘텐츠는 외부 조도와 차량 내의 내부 조도의 차이가 클수록 시인성이 높아 인지부하가 줄어들었다. 또한 HUD 콘텐츠의 경우 주행과 직접적인 관련이 높을수록 인지율이 높았으며, 운전과 관련성이 낮은 콘텐츠의 경우 운전자의 집중을 저해하는 것을 확인하였다.

항공안전도 향상을 위한 불안정 접근 방지대책 (A Study on Countermeasures to Prevent Unstable Approach to Improve Aviation Safety)

  • Aviation industry is growing rapidly, and this growth is expected to continue. However, aircraft accident rate is still high, and 65 percent of accidents occur during landing phase due to unstable approach. Therefore, this research analyzed causes and countermeasures of unstable approach. In order to derive countermeasures, this study selected P International Airport as an example case. In addition, this research analyzed A airline's FOQA data, regional Standard Operating Procedures, and 5 years of environmental factors to identified correlation of those contributing factors. In conclusion, his research concluded following results. First of all, because of P International Airport's geological features, pilots are required to conduct Circling Approach, and this advanced maneuver increases workload at the final stage of flight. Secondarily, meteorological factors such as crosswind, seasonal rain front, local visibility contributes unstable approach. Lastly, these geological and meteorological factors are interrelated, and this uncommon environment can decrease circumstantial judgement ability of pilots and jeopardize aviation safety. As a consequence, it is recommended to reinforce the Crew Resource Management and Threat & Error Management systems so that pilots can perceive identical safety target.

자전거 이용자의 안전성을 고려한 교차로 자전거 횡단도의 설치 위치에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Location of Bicycle Crossing considering Safety of Bicycle Users at Intersection)

  • PURPOSES : Recently, there are increasing bicycle accidents along with increasing bicycles users. Bicycle accidents occurred frequently by perpendicular collision form at intersection inner. In order to improve safety of bicycle, drivers need to be aware of bicycles on the road and intersection geometric designs need to be designed to reduce risk associated with collisions between bicycles and car. This study aims to review the location of bicycle crossing in the viewpoint of bicycle safety. METHODS : Four types of bicycle crossing by curve radius and driver's check around the behavior are set to simulate the risk of collisions between bicycles and car turning right. Simulation using fortran programming are conducted on total 60 cases. RESULTS : Bicycle crossing located behind of crosswalk is lower the risk of collisions with car in all cases. In addition to the larger curve radius of pavement edge at intersection and the more pay attention to the rear by the turn head to the right is too low the risk of collisions with car. CONCLUSIONS : It is show that the location of bicycle crossing is safer behind than in front of crosswalk in the viewpoint of bicycle safety.
