Performance Review of a Cycloid Speed Reducer for Ship Transport Vehicles using FEM (유한요소해석을 이용한 선박수송차량용 사이클로이드 감속기의 성능 검토)

  • A cycloid speed reducer is one of the rotational speed regulation devices of the machinery. A cycloid speed reducer has an advantage of transmitting high torque, but is known to be unsuitable for high speed rotation. However, it is almost impossible in an analytical method to find a use limit speed when installing such a speed reducer in a 200ton loading transporter. In this research the cycloid reducer was simulated to get its performance depending on friction energy loss in time domain by using by LS-DYNA. The maximum torque of the cycloid speed reducer is 3.5ton-m, so the comparison of analysis results between a case of 60rpm rotation and a case of 162rpm rotation with such a torque showed the following results. In the case of 60rpm rotation, the maximum stress appearing in the RV gear and the pin gear was 463MPa and 507MPa. Lost power due to friction was 50kW; In the case of 162rpm rotation, the maximum stress appearing in the RV gear and the pin gear was 550MPa and 538MPa. Lost power due to friction was 175kW, which was shown to be almost impossible to use.

The Development of Automatic Grease Lubricator Driven by Gear Mechanism with Controlled Operating Time (주유시간 조절이 가능한 기어 메커니즘 구동방식의 자동그리스주유기 개발)

  • Automatic grease lubricator is equipment that provides adequate amount of fresh grease constantly to the shaft and the bearings of machines. It minimizes the friction heat and reduces the friction loss of machines to the least. This research is to develop automatic grease lubricator by gear driven mechanism with controlled operation time. The ultimate design of this equipment is to lubricate an adequate amount of grease by a simple switch clicking according to the advanced set cycle. The backlash of the gear was minimized to increase the output power. To increase the power of gear mechanism, the binding frequency and the thickness of the coil were changed. To control the rotating cycles of the main shaft according to its set numbers, different resistance and chips were used to design the circuit to controls electrical signals with pulse. The body of the lubricator was analyzed by stress analysis with different constructed angle. The stress analysis for differing loading pressures applied to the exterior body of grease lubricator due to the setup angle, was found that the maximum stress was distributed over the outlet part where the grease lubricator suddenly narrowed contracts. Digital mock-up was analyzed and the rapid prototyping(RP) trial products were tested with PCB circuit and grease. The evaluation of the outlet capacity for RP trial products was conducted, because the friction caused by the outlet on the wall surface was an important factor in the operation of the equipment. Finally, the finishing process was applied to decrease the roughness of the surface to a comparable level and was able to test the performance examination for the product.

Impact and Wear Behavior of Side Plate of FRP Ship (FRP선박 외판재의 충격 및 마모 거동)

  • The effects of temperature and initial crack length on the impact fracture behavior for the side plate material of FRP ship were investigated. And the effects of the counterpart roughness and sliding distance on the volumetric wear of same material were investigated as well. Impact fracture toughness of GF/PE composites displayed maximum value when the temperature of specimen is room temperature and $50^{\circ}C$, and with decreasing the temperature of specimen, impact fracture toughness decreased. Impact fracture energy of GF/EP composites decreased with increasing the initial crack length of specimen, and this value decreased rapidly when the temperature of specimen is lowest, $-25^{\circ}C$. It is believed that sensitivity of notch on impact fracture energy were increased with decreasing the temperature of specimen. With increasing the sliding distance, the transition sliding distance, which displayed different aspect on the friction coefficient and the volumetric wear loss, were found out. Counterpart roughness had a big influence on the wear rate at running in period, however the effect of counterpart roughness became smaller with sliding speed increase in. Volumetric wear loss were increased with increasing the applied load and the counterpart roughness.

  • The high temperature creep behavior of heat machine systems such as aircraft engines, boilers and turbines in power plants and nuclear reactor components have been considered as an important and needful fact. There are considerable research results available for the design of high temperature tube materials in power plants. However, few studies on the Initial Strain Method (ISM) capable of securing repair, maintenance, cost loss and life loss have been made. In this method, 3 long time prediction Of high temperature creep characteristics can be dramatically induced through a short time experiment. The purpose of present study is to investigate the high temperature creep lift of Udimet 720, SCM 440-STD61 and 1Cr-0.5Mo steel using the ISM. The creep test was performed at 40$0^{\circ}C$ to $700^{\circ}C$ under a pure loading. In the prediction of creep life for each materials, the equation of ISM was superior of Larson-Miller Parameter(LMP). Especially, the long time prediction of creep life was identified to improve the reliability.

  • The pumps of electro-hydrostatic actuators operate most frequently in boundary lubrication speed range, as they compensate for the position control errors as a control element. When conventional swash plate type piston pumps are applied to electro-hydrostatic actuators, the frictional power losses as well as the wear rate of sliding components, such as piston shoes can increase drastically under the boundary friction condition. In this paper, the power losses of the piston shoes were investigated which were engendered by a frictional solid-to-solid contact and leakage flow rate of their hydrostatic bearing. In order to reduce them, DLC-coating was applied to the swash plate and the ball joint of pistons along with its effects were demonstrated. In addition, it was also shown that the wear rate of the piston shoes could be markedly reduced using the DLC-coated swash plate.

  • Nowadays, the hydraulic power unit (HPU) has been increased its working pressure and enlarged its capacity in order to improve the performance of the hydraulic system, but it produces noise leveled around 110dB(A) during operation. Recently, due to the reinforcement of industrial safety regulations and the requirement of improving work environment, a separated HPU room is installed at outside or underground of the building as to reduce the noise from HPU, but there are also problems of power loss owing its fluid friction of pipe system and of deficient accessibility during its failure accident. In this study, experiment is performed to improve the noise characteristics with installing a soundproof chamber to minimize the power loss and exclude effectively the high leveled noise, which is generated during the power conversion of HPU.

Performance Predictions of Gas Foil Journal Bearings with Turbulent Flows (난류 유동을 갖는 가스 포일 저널 베어링의 성능 예측)

  • Gas foil bearings (GFBs) enable small- to medium-sized turbomachinery to operate at ultra-high speeds in a compact design by using ambient air or process gas as a lubricant. When using air or process gas, which have lower viscosity than lubricant oil, the turbomachinery has the advantage of reduced power loss from bearing friction drag. However, GFBs may have high Reynolds number, which causes turbulent flows due to process gas with low viscosity and high density. This paper analyzes gas foil journal bearings (GFJBs) with high Reynolds numbers and studies the effects of turbulent flows on the static and dynamic performance of bearings. For comparison purposes, air and R-134a gas lubricants are applied to the GFJBs. For the air lubricant, turbulence is dominant only at rotor speeds higher than 200 krpm. At those speeds, the journal eccentricity decreases, but the film thickness, power loss, and direct stiffness and damping coefficients increase. On the other hand, the R-134a gas lubricant, which that has much higher density than air, causes dominant turbulence at rotor speeds greater than 10 krpm. The turbulent flow model predicts decreased journal eccentricity but increased film thickness and power loss when compared with the lamina flow model predictions. The vertical direct stiffness and damping coefficients are lower at speeds below 100 krpm, but higher beyond that speeds for the turbulent model. The present results indicate that turbulent flow effects should be considered for accurate performance predictions of GFJBs with high Reynolds number.

  • Synchronous generator needs slip-ring and brush for supplying current to rotor with external source. but slip-ring and brush have some problems to supply DC power to field winding with friction and high power loss due to brush voltage drop at high field current. Thus synchronous generator have been designed to brushless machine. Brushless synchronous machines of using permanent halbach array can composed without back core and coreloss. In this paper, analyse on the characteristics of external rotor type permenant magnet brushless with halbach array.

The effect of wear on the damage of slitting knife (Slitting Knife의 손상에 미치는 마모의 영향)

  • This study analyzed the damage to a slitting knife after cutting steel sheets. Damages to the structure were observed and wear tests were conducted. In addition, the degradation on the damaged and undamaged parts was compared with a micro Vickers hardness test. Weibull statistical analysis was carried out in order to evaluate the reliability of the micro Vickers hardness measured data. Spalling of the edge portion occurred by degradation during use over a long period. Rough parts in the specimens were caused by damage because the slitting knife was used for 1 year. The friction coefficient and wear loss at the damaged parts of the knife edge were slightly larger from shock due to repetitive cutting operation. The micro Vickers hardness followed a two-parameter Weibull probability distribution.

  • The friction factor of commercial pipe varies with wide range depending on pipe type and pipe size. Various methods can describe the wide variation of friction factor with good accuracy, but they normally require an iteration process even for solution of a simple case. Power law can result in an explicit form of solver so that the power law is rigorously employed for the development of direct solution technique. The parameters used in the present form of power law are allowed to haute some variation with pipe size and Reynolds number as well as pipe type for wider coverage with good accuracy, while Hazen-Williams equation permits limited variation which accounts only for the roughness or the pipe type. Furthermore secondary loss is considered in the development of explicit equations for design of commercial pipes.
