  • A new analytical derivation of the elastodynamic point load solutions for an isotropic multi-layered half-space is presented by means of the precise integration method (PIM) and the approach of dual vector. The time-harmonic external load is prescribed either on the external boundary or in the interior of the solid medium. Starting with the axisymmetric governing motion equations in a cylindrical coordinate system, a second order ordinary differential matrix equation can be gained by making use of the Hankel integral transform. Employing the technique of dual vector, the second order ordinary differential matrix equation can be simplified into a first-order one. The approach of PIM is implemented to obtain the solutions of the ordinary differential matrix equation in the Hankel integral transform domain. The PIM is a highly accurate algorithm to solve sets of first-order ordinary differential equations and any desired accuracy of the dynamic point load solutions can be achieved. The numerical simulation is based on algebraic matrix operation. As a result, the computational effort is reduced to a great extent and the computation is unconditionally stable. Selected numerical trials are given to validate the accuracy and applicability of the proposed approach. More examples are discussed to portray the dependence of the load-displacement response on the isotropic parameters of the multi-layered media, the depth of external load and the frequency of excitation.

  • Catamaran has recently been a choice to support a typical vertical axis turbine in floating tidal current energy conversion system. However, motion responses associated with the catamaran can reduce the turbines efficiency. The possibility to overcome this problem isto change the catamaran parameter by varying and simulating the demi-hull separations to have lower motion responses. This simulation was undertaken by Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) using potential flow analysis. Cases of demi-hull separation were considered, with ratios of demi-hull separation (S) to the breadth of demi-hull (B), S/B of 3.45, 4.95, 6.45, 7.2 and 7.95. In order to compare to the previous works in the literature, the regular wave was set with wave height of 0.8 m. Furthermore, the analysis was carried out by irregular waves with significant wave height, Hs, of about 0.09 to 1.5 m and the wave period, T, of about 1.5 to 6 s or corresponding to the wave frequency, ω, of about 1.1 to 4.2 rad/s. The wave spectrum was derived from the equation of the International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC). For the case of turbines-loaded catamaran under consideration, the new finding is that the least significant amplitude response can be satisfied at the ratio S/B of 7.2. This study indicates that selecting a right choice of demi-hull separation ratio could contribute in reducing motion responses of the tidal current turbines-loaded catamaran.

  • Pulsation is an inherent phenomenon in reciprocating compressors. It interacts with piping to cause vibrations and performance problems. Indiscriminately connecting to a compressor can be dangerous and cost money in the form of broken equipment and piping, poor performance, inaccurate metering, unwanted vibration, and sometimes noise. Piping connected to a compressor can materially affect the performance and response. To minimize these detrimental effects, reciprocating compressor system should be equipped by pulsation suppression system. This study discusses pressure pulsation phenomena occurred in a reciprocating compressor system. An experiment applied air compressor unit, as pulsating pressure generator, has been done. The compressor was connected sequentially to a snubber model and pressure tank. Sensor probes were placed on the inlet and outlet pipes of snubber. Compressor was driven by a motor controlled by a frequency regulator. The experiment was conducted by adjusting the regulator at 40Hz. General information about an internal gas flow can be achieved by numerical analysis approach. Information of the velocity, pressure and turbulence kinetic energy distribution are presented in this paper. Based on this result, the design improvement might be done.

  • In this paper, The proposed board is developed by EMI compliant Dash Camera with $360^{\circ}$ omni angle. The proposed board is designed by designing DM and CM input noise reduction circuit and applying active EMI filter coupling circuit. The DM and CM input noise reduction circuit design uses a differential op amp circuit to obtain the DM noise coupled to the input signal via the parasitic capacitance(CP). In order to simplify the circuit by applying the active EMI filter coupling circuit, a noise separator is installed to compensate the noise of the EMI source to compensate the CM and DM active filter simultaneously. In order to evaluate the performance of the board for the proposed EMI response, an authorized accreditation body has confirmed that the electromagnetic certification standard for each frequency band is satisfied.

  • The purpose of this study is to first discriminate and assess those infants who appear healthy in appearance but who could face possible risk factors in the future and, secondly, to identify those infants who may have difficulties in their developmental stages. The subjects of this study consisted of 35 full-term infants (39-40 weeks) and 33 pre-term infants (34-35 weeks). The infants' voices were recorded for three minutes, for which EDIROL by Roland and a stand-type microphone made by SONY were used. This was done to discern the value of the Breath unit (B-unit) and the fundamental frequencies ($F_0$). It was found that there were significant differences in terms of F0 since the pre-term infants had higher F0 than the full-term infants, showing a result of 436.4 Hz for the full-term infants and 460 Hz for the pre-term infants (p<.05) There was an average rate of 4.01 for the full-term infants and 4.02 (SD=1.69) for the pre-term infants in shimmer. For NHR, it was observed .44 for the full-term infants and .50 for the pre-term infants, thus revealing no significant differences in these observations. This study shows that the crying of newborn babies is related to their physical conditions and it is a sensatory response to these conditions. Furthermore, this study could be helpful for the early detection and measurement of newborn babies who look clinically healthy but could be at risk through acoustic and physiological analyses.

  • The effect of fluoride pretreatment upon root resorption after delayed replantation was studied in beagle dogs. Upper and lower incisors were extracted and bench dried for 45 minutes. 1% Stannous fluoride solution, 2% neutral sodium fluoride gel and 1.23% acidulated phosphate fluoride gel were used for the pre-treatment of replanted root surface in the experimental groups. Replantation was done with no treatment in control group. After of an experimental periods 3 weeks, animals were sacrificed by perfusion followed by sample preparation. A histomorphometric method was applied for evaluation of tissue reactions observed in each group under light microscope. Scanning electron microscopic observation was done to find out any different surface topography between groups. The results were as follows: 1. Fluoride-treated groups showed in general the better healing patterns than untreated control group. 2. Comparisons between three experimental groups revealed the general superiority of APF-treated group over the other groups in terms of tissue healing reaction by showing the highest frequency in uncomplicated healing pattern and surface resorption and the lowest in inflammatory resorption, but with no statistical significance(p>.05). 3. Scanning elecron micrographs showed the irregular distribution of resorption cavities and the attached bone of variable size and shape in all groups. 4. It can be concluded that the types of fluoride did not have significant impact on the early tissue reactions after delayed replantation under the condition of the present experiment.

  • In this paper, we designed a wideband Tonpilz transducer, and verified the validity of the design through experiments. The wide frequency bandwidth was achieved by coupling the fundamental longitudinal mode of the transducer with a flapping mode of the head mass. Structure of the Tonpilz transducer was optimized by means of the finite element method and genetic algorithm to achieve the widest fractional bandwidth under design constraints. The optimized structure showed a far wider -6 dB fractional bandwidth of transmitting responses than that of single mode transducers. For verification of the design result, we manufactured a transducer prototype of the designed structure and characterized its performance, which showed good agreement with the design results.

  • The paper concerns with the method and results of wind tunnel investigations of the Strouhal number (St) of a stationary iced cable model of cable-supported bridges with respect to different angles of wind attack. The investigations were conducted in the Climatic Wind Tunnel Laboratory of the Czech Academy of Sciences in $Tel{\check{c}}$. The methodology leading to the experimental icing of the inclined cable model was prepared in a climatic section of the laboratory. The shape of the ice on the cable was registered by a photogrammetry method. A section of an iced cable model with a smaller scale was reproduced with a 3D printing procedure for subsequent aerodynamic investigations. The St values were determined within the range of the Reynolds number (Re) between $2.4{\cdot}10^4$ and $16.5{\cdot}10^4$, based on the dominant vortex shedding frequencies measured in the wake of the model. The model was oriented at three principal angles of wind attack for each of selected Re values. The flow regimes were distinguished for each model configuration. In order to recognize the tunnel blockage effect the St of a circular smooth cylinder was also tested. Good agreement with the reported values in the subcritical Re range of a circular cylinder was obtained. The knowledge of the flow regimes of the airflow around an iced cable and the associated St values could constitute a basis to formulate a mathematical description of the vortex-induced force acting on the iced cable of a cable-supported bridge and could allow predicting the cable response due to the vortex excitation phenomenon.
