Theoretical investigation is made on the electromagnetic fields generated by an impulsive point current source, fur the VV, HV, and VH problems at the interface between an isotropic upper half-space medium and a normally uniaxial lower half-space medium. The electric fields of these problems are associated only with the extraordinary-wave components in the Fourier-Laplace domain. Applying the Cagniard-de Hoop method to each problem, the time-domain solutions of the wave fields are obtained. The fields of the VV case can be expressed in explicit(integral-free) forms. The fields of the HV and VH cases are not integral-free, but the major singularities implicit in the integral solutions can be analytically extracted. The interfacial far fields in the frequency domain are determined by the singularities in the time domain.

This paper presents a time domain method for soil-structure interaction analysis for seismic loadings. It is based on the finite element formulation incorporating analytical frequency-dependent infinite elements for the far field soil. The dynamic stiffness matrices of the far field region formulated using the present method in frequency domain can be easily transformed into the corresponding matrices in time domain. At first, the equivalent earthquake forces are evaluated along the interface between the near and the far fields from the free-field response analysis carried out in frequency domain, and the results are transformed into the time domain. An efficient procedure is developed for the convolution integrals to evaluate the interaction force along the interface, which depends on the response on the interface at the past time instances as well as the concurrent instance. Then, the dynamic responses are obtained for the equivalent earthquake force and the interaction force using Newmark direct integration technique. Since the response analysis is carried out in time domain, it can be easily extended to the nonlinear analysis. Example analysis has been carried out to verify the present method in a multi-layered half-space.

In this study, a numerical analysis method for soil-pile interaction in frequency domain problem is presented. The total soil-pile interaction system is divided into two parts so called near field and far field. In the near field, beam elements are used for a pile and plain strain finite elements for soil. In the far field, dynamic fundamental solution for multi-layered half planes based on boundary element formulation is adopted for soil. These two fields are coupled using FE-BE coupling technique In order to verify the proposed soil-pile interaction analysis, the dynamic responses of pile on multi-layered half planes are simulated and the results are compared with the experimental results. Also, the dynamic response analyses of interface spring elements are performed. As a result, less spring stiffness makes the natural frequency decrease and the resonant amplitude increase.

A two-dimensional boundary element method was used for the scattering analysis of side-drilled hole(SDH). The far-field scattering amplitude was calculated for shear vertical(SV) wave, and their frequency and time-domain results were presented. The time-domain scattering amplitude showed the directly reflected wave from the SDH leading edge as well as the creeping wave. In an immersion, pulse-echo testing, two measurement models were introduced to predict the response from SDHs. The 2-D boundary element scattering amplitude was converted to the 3-D amplitude to be used in the measurement model. The receiver voltage was calculated fer SV wave incidence at 45$^{\circ}C$ on the 1 m diameter SDH, and the result was compared with experiment.

It has been found that the developed method which satisfies the radiation conditions of multi-layered half planes can be applied to various structure systems effectively in frequency domain.

Acoustic holography exhibits the spatial distribution of sound pressure in time or frequency domain. The obtained picture often contains far more than what we need in practice. For example, when we need to know only the locations and overall propagation pattern of sound sources, a method to show only what we need has to be introduced. One way of obtaining the necessary information is to use envelope in space. The spatial envelope is a spatially slowly-varying amplitude of acoustic waves which contains the information of sources' location. A spatial modulation method has been theoretically developed to get a spatial envelope. By applying the spatial envelope, not only the necessary information is obtained but also computation time is reduced during the process of holography. The spatial envelope is verified as an effective visualization scheme in time domain by being applied to complicated sound fields.
The paper reviews an improved continuous-wave (CW) terahertz (THz) imaging system developed for nondestructive inspection, such as CW-THz quasi-time-domain spectroscopy (QTDS) and interferometry. First, a comparison between CW and pulsed THz imaging systems is reported. The CW-THz imaging system is a simple, fast, compact, and relatively low-cost system. However, it only provides intensity data, without depth and frequency- or time-domain information. The pulsed THz imaging system yields a broader range of information, but it is expensive because of the femtosecond laser. Recently, to overcome the drawbacks of CW-THz imaging systems, many studies have been conducted, including a study on the QTDS system. In this system, an optical delay line is added to the optical arm leading to the detector. Another system studied is a CW-THz interferometric imaging system, which combines the CW-THz imaging system and far-infrared interferometer system. These systems commonly obtain depth information despite the CW-THz system. Reportedly, these systems can be successfully applied to fields where pulsed THz is used. Lastly, the applicability of these systems for nondestructive inspection was confirmed.
Studying the spatial distribution in coherent fields such as turbulence and turbulence-induced force is important to model and evaluate turbulence-induced forces and response of structures in the turbulent flows. Turbulence field-based coherence function is commonly used for the spatial distribution characteristic of the turbulence-induced forces in the frequency domain so far. This paper will focus to study spectral coherent structure of the turbulence and induced forces in not only the frequency domain using conventional Fourier transform-based coherence, but also temporo-spectral coherence one in the time-frequency plane thanks to wavelet transform-based coherence for better understanding of the turbulence and force coherences and their spatial distributions. Effects of spanwise separations, bluff body flow, flow conditions and Karman vortex on coherent structures of the turbulence and induced pressure, comparison between turbulence and pressure coherences as well as intermittency of the coherent structure in the time-frequency plane will be investigated here. Some new findings are that not only the force coherence is higher than the turbulence coherence, the coherences of turbulence and forces depend on the spanwise separation as previous studies, but also the coherent structures of turbulence and forces relate to the ongoing turbulence flow and bluff body flow, moreover, intermittency in the time domain and low spectral band is considered as the nature of the coherent structure. Simultaneous measurements of the surface pressure and turbulence have been carried out on some typical rectangular cylinders with slenderness ratios B/D=1 (without and with splitter plate) and B/D=5 under the artificial turbulent flows in the wind tunnel.

In this paper, we present various combined field integral equation (CFIE) formulations for the analysis of electromagnetic scattering from arbitrarily shaped three dimensional homogeneous dielectric body in the frequency domain. For the CFIE case, we propose eight separate formulations with different combinations of testing functions that result in sixteen different formulations of CFIE by neglecting one of testing terms. One of the objectives of this paper is to illustrate that not all CFIE are valid methodologies in removing defects, which occur at a frequency corresponding to an internal resonance of the structure. Numerical results involving far scattered fields and radar cross section (RCS) are presented for a dielectric sphere to illustrate which formulation works and which do not.
As in the other fields of mechanics, analytical methods represent an important analysis tool in marine hydrodynamics. The analytical approach is interesting for different reasons : it gives reference results for numerical codes verification, it gives physical insight into some complicated problems, it can be used as a simplified predesign tool, etc. This approach is of course limited to some simplified geometries (cylinders, spheres, ...), and only the case of one or more cylinders, truncated or not, will be considered here. Presented methods are basically eigenfunction expansions whose complexity depends on the boundary conditions. The hydrodynamic boundary value problem (BVP) is formulated within the usual assumptions of potential flow and is additionally simplified by the perturbation method. By using this approach, the highly nonlinear problem decomposes into its linear part and the higher order (second, third, ...) corrections. Also, periodicity is assumed so that the time dependence can be factorized i.e. the frequency domain formulation is adopted. As far as free surface flows are concerned, only cases without or with small forward speed are sufficiently simple to be solved semi-analytically. The problem of the floating body advancing in waves with arbitrary forward speed is far more complicated. These remarks are also valid for the general numerical methods where the case of arbitrary forward speed, even linearized, is still too difficult from numerical point of view, and "it is fair to say that there exists at present no general practical numerical method for the wave resistance problem" [9], and even less for the general seakeeping problem. We note also that, in the case of bluff bodies like cylinders, the assumptions of the potential flow are justified only if the forward speed is less than the product of wave amplitude with wave frequency.
