  • This paper evaluates performances of a recently developed divergence-free finite element method based on Hermite interpolated stream functions. Velocity bases are derived from Hermite interpolated stream functions to form divergence-free basis functions. These velocity basis functions constitute a solenoidal function space, and the simple gradient of the Hermite functions constitute an irrotational function space. The incompressible Navier-Stokes equation is orthogonally decomposed into a solenoidal and an irrotational parts, and the decoupled Navier-Stokes equations are projected onto their corresponding spaces to form proper variational formulations. To access accuracy and convergence of the present algorithm, three test problems are selected. They are lid-driven cavity flow, flow over a backward-facing step and buoyancy-driven flow within a square enclosure. Hermite interpolation functions from cubic to quintic are chosen to run the test problems. Numerical results are shown. In all cases it has shown that the present method has performed well in accuracies and convergences. Moreover, the present method does not require an upwinding or a stabilized term.

  • The divergence-free finite elements introduced in this paper are derived from Hermite functions, which interpolate stream functions. Velocity bases are derived from the curl of the Hermite functions. These velocity basis functions constitute a solenoidal function space, and the gradient of the Hermite functions constitute an irrotational function space. The incompressible Navier-Stokes equation is orthogonally decomposed into its solenoidal and irrotational parts, and the decoupled Navier-Stokes equations are then projected onto their corresponding spaces to form appropriate variational formulations. The degrees of the Hermite functions we introduce in this paper are bi-cubis, quartic, and quintic. To verify the accuracy and convergence of the present method, three well-known benchmark problems are chosen. These are lid-driven cavity flow, flow over a backward facing step, and buoyancy-driven flow within a square enclosure. The numerical results show good agreement with the previously published results in all cases.

  • A collision-free path planning algorithm between an articulated robot and polyhedral obstacles using configuration space is presented. In configuration space, a robot is treated as a point and obstacles are treated as grown forbidden regions. Hence path planning problem is transformed into moving a point from start position to goal position without entering forbidden regions. For mapping to 3D joint space, slice projection method is used for first revolute joint and inverse kinematics is used for second and third revolute joint considering kinematic characteristics of industrial robot. Also, three projected 2D joint spaces are used in search of collision-free path. A proper example is provided to illustrate the proposed algorithm.

  • The dynamic characteristics of a free-piston stirling engine(FPSE) with regard to the working frequency is investigated from theoretical and experimental studies. The FPSE is modeled as a two degree-of-freedom linear vibration system. A theoretical expression on the working frequency is derived from the instability condition for self-excitation based on the linear vibration model. A ${\gamma}$-type free-piston stirling engine is fabricated for experimental studies, and its working frequency is measured on various heater temperatures. Comparisons between the theoretical and experimental results reveal that the working frequency of the test FPSE depends on both the temperature of the compression space and the temperature difference between the expansion and compression spaces.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usability and satisfaction of space to which positive elements in Leed-Certified Office Building are applied. The study was conducted using the three-step approach. The first step was to understand the building and identify the issues which included the analysis of floor plans, documentations, and the interview with designers and facility managers. The second step was FGI(Focus Group Interviews), which were conducted with mixed employees of rank and location of workplace. Finally, a web-based questionnaire survey was conducted on the 319 executives and employees. Methods of analysis used were quantitative analysis of questionnaire, qualitative analysis of open ended free-answer, and FGI in the second step. Satisfaction, preference, and comfort level were studied using cross tab, co-relation, ANOVA for quantitative analysis. The results of this study are as follows: First, lobby and atrium are representative elements that are functioning positively and it is recognized as sustainable spaces being utilized by users. Second, there are several dead spaces like green shaft, roof garden and sunken space although they can contribute to Leed-certification. Third, there are some problematic spaces such as the O.A. room and the urinals even though they contribute to the Leed-certification.

  • Human-centric lighting (HCL) aims to enhance well-being and performance by tailoring lighting to human needs. However, LED flicker-rapid brightness changes-remains a critical issue, causing discomfort and reduced productivity. This paper addresses flicker problems in living and industrial spaces with LED lighting. We propose solutions to mitigate flicker by examining causes like power supply variations and LED driver design. Techniques such as high-quality LED drivers, advanced dimming methods, and digital control systems are explored. Our findings show these techniques can significantly reduce flicker, achieving less than 1% flicker performance while meeting HCL's diverse requirements. Implementing flicker-free lighting in residential spaces enhances comfort and reduces eye strain, while in industrial settings, it improves productivity and safety. This paper emphasizes the importance of control circuits that maintain sub-1% flicker performance while integrating various HCL solutions, enhancing indoor lighting quality, and promoting better health and performance.

  • When a piece of the dorsal skin(cat fish) was observed under a light microscope, melanophores were horizontally expanded and had a few processes filled with melanosomes. They were isolated from one another. Some melanophores looked black, while others were d&k brown. On observation with a transmission electron microscope, the epidermal melanophore of cat fish was highly branched and small segments of processes were found frequendy m the vidnity of the interecellular spaces. The cross section of the processes of melanophore was almost circular, and often invested by a thin layer of epidermal cells. Some processes, however, occurred free m the wide interecellular spaces or at the cytoplasm of the superilcial layers. In the mature melanophore, the cell organelles including melanosomes, mitochondria and free ribosomes were prominent in the perinuclear portions. Many melanosomes were spherical or elipsoidal in shape. Each melanosomes was surrounded by a limiting membrane. The processes of the mature melanophore were well developed, but the processes of the immature melanophores were incompletely developed.

  • We study torsion phenomena in the integral cohomology of finite if-spaces X through the Eilenberg-Moore spectral sequence converging to H*($\Omega$X; Z$_{p}$). We also investigate how the difference between the Z$_{p}$-filtration length f$_{p}$(X) and the Z$_{p}$-cup length c$_{p}$(X) on a simply connected finite H-space X is reflected in the Eilenberg-Moore spectral sequence converging to H*($\Omega$X;Z$_{p}$). Finally we get the following result: Let p be an odd prime and X an n-connected finite H-space with dim QH* (X;Z$_{p}$) $\leq$ m. Then H*(X;Z) is p-torsion free if (equation omitted).tion omitted).

The theory for place identity is studied and the components-Physical element, Sense, Program, Activity, Context-for identity of place is created. In the case study of SamcheongdongGil, the qualitative research method of Free Picturing Technique and Cognitive Mapping is executed and the samples gathered from the research are analyzed. In the process of analysis, the contents of qualitative evaluation by users is put in order as components for identity of place. Moreover, the design elements for street space are extracted from the case study and theories of urban design. The design elements are summarized as the followings: street pattern with high permeability, various streetscapes, greenscapes, semi public(private) spaces, the third places, public arts, transparent facades, and outdoor activities. Finally, the fruits and boundary of this study are described and the importance of place identity is.

  • Pressurization is a method of ensuring that protected escape routes(staircases and lobbies) are kept free of smoke for shelterers and fire fighters by raising the air pressure in these spaces above that in the main part of the building. In this study, to estimate a pressurization, the characteristics of pressure difference in a room, a lobby, an air supply shaft at several building elements are investigated with a window, the (a fire) door and a air supply damper so that information about the importance of these experimental parameters can be obtained.
