  • The underlay protocol is a cognitive radio method in which secondary or cognitive users use the same frequency without affecting the quality of service (QoS) for the primary users. In addition, because of the broadcast characteristics of the wireless environment, some nodes, which are called eavesdropper nodes, want to illegally receive information that is intended for other communication links. Hence, Physical Layer Security is applied considering the achievable secrecy rate (ASR) to prevent this from happening. In this paper, a performance analysis of the amplify-and-forward scheme under an interference constraint and Physical Layer Security is investigated in the cooperative communication mode. In this model, the relays use an amplify-and- forward method to help transmit signals from a source to a destination. The best relay is chosen using an opportunistic relay selection method, which is based on the end-to-end ASR. The system performance is evaluated in terms of the outage probability of the ASR. The lower and upper bounds of this probability, based on the global statistical channel state information (CSI), are derived in closed form. Our simulation results show that the system performance improves when the distances from the relays to the eavesdropper are larger than the distances from the relays to the destination, and the cognitive network is far enough from the primary user.

  • This paper first addresses a distribution planning method on centrally controlled supply chain. The distribution channels are assumed to be network of arborescence form. For such distribution networks, this study proposes a distribution planning scheme when the demands for retail sites are provided for a given planning horizon. As the planning horizon rolls forward, for a new horizon, forecasted demand distributions of periods in the horizon are updated. An idea of controlling customer service level by the selection of demand to be used in the planning (Demand Used in Planning, DUP) from the forecasted values is also discussed.

  • In this paper, we evaluate the outage performance of cooperative transmission in two-dimensional random networks. Firstly, we derive the joint distributions of the source-relay and the relay-destination links. Secondly, the outage probability for the decode-and-forward relaying system is derived when selection combining (SC) is employed at the destination. Finally, we calculate the average outage probability of the system and then attempt to express it by a simple approximate expression. The simulation results are presented to verify the accuracy of the derivations. Similar to deterministic networks, the cooperative transmission in random networks outperforms direct transmission at a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).

  • To effectively predict the lipophilicity, the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) affinity, and TEF (Toxic equivalency factor) of dioxins by geometrical descriptors, the multiple linear regression methods with the forward selection and backward elimination were employed with statistical validity. The lipophilicity, the Ah receptor binding affinity, and the toxic equivalency factor of dioxins could be predicted using some geometrical descriptors.

  • One of the important restraint conditions for determination of rotary tiller parameters is whether the outside of front cutting surface on blade in rotary tiller pushes untilled soil in operation. By theoretical analysis and graphic verification on computer, no sil-push conditions is put forward and formula for calculating the position angle of its bent line derived, as is convenient for selection of rotary tiller parameters and design and drawing of its blade.

  • This paper presents an expert system approach to solve preliminary bridge design problems. The system employs a forward chaining inference strategy to 1) choose the appropriate superstructure types and construction methods and 2) use the solutions chosen in 1) to determine a list of ranked alternatives. The basic information used in the selection is collected from various sources. Due to the uncertainties presented in the information collected, Fuzzy sets are used to handle these uncertainties in the system. Finally to approve this system some applications are made to select superstructure types and construction methods of them.

  • This paper describes performances of speaker adaptation using a probabilistic spectral mapping matrix in hidden-Markov model(HMM) -based Korean isolated word recognition. Speaker adaptation based on probabilistic spectral mapping uses a well-trained prototype HMM's and is carried out by Viterbi, dynamic time warping, and forward-backward algorithms. Among these algorithms, the best performance is obtained by using the Viterbi approach together with codebook adaptation whose improvement for isolated word recognition accuracy is 42.6-68.8 %. Also, the selection of the initial values of the matrix and the normalization in computing the matrix affects the recognition accuracy.

  • Functional near-infrared spectroscopy-based brain-computer interface (fNIRS-based BCI) has been receiving much attention. However, we are practically constrained to obtain a lot of fNIRS data by inherent hemodynamic delay. For this reason, when employing machine learning techniques, a problem due to the high-dimensional feature vector may be encountered, such as deteriorated classification accuracy. In this study, we employ an elastic net-based feature selection which is one of the embedded methods and demonstrate the utility of which by analyzing the results. Using the fNIRS dataset obtained from 18 participants for classifying brain activation induced by mental arithmetic and idle state, we calculated classification accuracies after performing feature selection while changing the parameter α (weight of lasso vs. ridge regularization). Grand averages of classification accuracy are 80.0 ± 9.4%, 79.3 ± 9.6%, 79.0 ± 9.2%, 79.7 ± 10.1%, 77.6 ± 10.3%, 79.2 ± 8.9%, and 80.0 ± 7.8% for the various values of α = 0.001, 0.005, 0.01, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.5, respectively, and are not statistically different from the grand average of classification accuracy estimated with all features (80.1 ± 9.5%). As a result, no difference in classification accuracy is revealed for all considered parameter α values. Especially for α = 0.5, we are able to achieve the statistically same level of classification accuracy with even 16.4% features of the total features. Since elastic net-based feature selection can be easily applied to other cases without complicated initialization and parameter fine-tuning, we can be looking forward to seeing that the elastic-based feature selection can be actively applied to fNIRS data.

  • In this paper, we propose a two-way relaying scheme using non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technology. In this scheme, two sources transmit packets with each other under the assistance of the decode-and-forward (DF) relays, called as a TWDFNOMA protocol. The cooperative relays exploit successive interference cancellation (SIC) technique to decode sequentially the data packets from received summation signals, and then use the digital network coding (DNC) technique to encrypt received data from two sources. A max-min criterion of end-to-end signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratios (SINRs) is used to select a best relay in the proposed TWDFNOMA protocol. Outage probabilities are analyzed to achieve exact closed-form expressions and then, the system performance of the proposed TWDFNOMA protocol is evaluated by these probabilities. Simulation and analysis results discover that the system performance of the proposed TWDFNOMA protocol is improved when compared with a conventional three-timeslot two-way relaying scheme using DNC (denoted as a TWDNC protocol), a four-timeslot two-way relaying scheme without using DNC (denoted as a TWNDNC protocol) and a two-timeslot two-way relaying scheme with amplify-and-forward operations (denoted as a TWANC protocol). Particularly, the proposed TWDFNOMA protocol achieves best performances at two optimal locations of the best relay whereas the midpoint one is the optimal location of the TWDNC and TWNDNC protocols. Finally, the probability analyses are justified by executing Monte Carlo simulations.

  • Selection relaying(SR) is usually based on signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) to decide whether or not to forward recovered symbols. However, instantaneous noise at relay is ignored, leading to the risk of erroneous retransmission induced by the relay that can be detrimental to the eventual detection of symbols at destination. To overcome this problem, we propose using new symbol error probability(SEP) related directly to reliability of received symbols instead of SNR. Simulation results show that the proposed SEP-based SR is considerably better than the conventional SNR-based SR under any relay position and threshold.
