  • OMG (Object Management Group) published a security service specification, called CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) security reference model because the integration of security and object-oriented techniques was critical for successful deployment of distributed object systems. The CORBA security reference model treats access control as an implementation independent semantic concept but has incomplete semantics of the access control function. Because of such imcompleteness it is difficult for the system administrator and the CORBA security implementor to have the same understanding for the meaning of access control in the CORBA security. We propose a formal model for access control the CORBA security using the formal description language, which is called Z language based on typed set theory. The proposed model provides concrete semantics of the access control function to both the system administrator and the implementor.

  • The three basic elements of human life -clothing, food and shelter- had been evolved through different periods and cultural realms, as their spatial applications show distinct characteristics that are manifested through sensibilities only inherent to its specific culture. Especially in the interior spaces, possibilities to approach them in three-dimensional aspects allow formal characteristics to be expressed that are distinct to the country. Formal sensibilities embedded in interior space In Korea also follows such pattern, developed through various contemporary interpretations of Korean traditional formal sensibilities, including harmony with nature, simplicity, lightness, real and fake, and principle of harmony are being redefined by spatially expressed in contemporary language. That is, traditional formal sensibilitiesare filtered through various application methods such as composition, negotiation and modification, accommodating spatial manifestations to be not simply preserved nor replicated, but rather reconstructed through metaphor, symbol, abstraction and contrast. From this perspective, the Korean traditional formal sensibilitiesis not a notion fixed in the past, but a distinct perspectives evolving throughout periods of time that are constantly reconsidered and reinterpreted in our interior space. By examining Korean sensibilities manifested in interior space in the both diachronic aspects of tradition vs. contemporary, as well as synchronic aspects among various disciplines simultaneously, we would be able to generate a linkage to the dichotomous categories of tradition and contemporary.

  • This study highlights some very important future directions for the revision of language forms in the 2007 Korean English Curriculum, expected to be made public in the summer of 2011. A critical review of the 2007 National English Curriculum shows that language forms exemplified in that curriculum are not well-chosen or well-sequenced from the viewpoint of grammar selection and gradation, and that no mention of structural labels or grammatical terminologies makes it hard for teachers to recognize their formal properties. To fulfill the original purpose that languages should be listed in the curriculum so that functional-notional syllabuses can be complemented by form-focused instruction, the study presents partial inventories of grammatical items with well-chosen and well-sequenced examples. Minimal descriptions are given to these inventories that are based on general notions or well-known grammatical notions. Occasional suggestions are also made for which language forms should be taught in which schools.

  • Achieving situation awareness is especially challenging for real-time data stream applications because they i) operate on continuous unbounded streams of data, and ii) have inherent realtime requirements. In this paper we showed how formal data stream modeling and analysis can be used to better understand stream behavior, evaluate query costs, and improve application performance. We used MEDAL, a formal specification language based on Petri nets, to model the data stream queries and the quality-of-service management mechanisms of RT-STREAM, a prototype system for data stream management. MEDAL's ability to combine query logic and data admission control in one model allows us to design a single comprehensive model of the system. This model can be used to perform a large set of analyses to help improve the application's performance and quality of service.

  • In this study, we conceptualized the ‘preformal proof’, which is a transitive level of proof from the experimental and inductive justification to the formalized mathematical proof. We investigated concrete features of the preformal proof in the historico-genetic and the didactical situations. The preformal proof can get the generality of the contents of proof, which makes a distinction from the experimental proof. And we can draw a distinction between the preformal and formal proof, in point that the preformal proof heads for the reality-oriented objects and does not use the formal language.

  • 마음과 기계의 관계에 대한 $G{\ddot{o}}del's$의 선언결론(disjunctive conclusion)은 마음과 정보처리형식체계의 논리적 동치성을 함의하고 있다. 그리고 $G{\ddot{o}}del's$의 불완전성 정리(Incompleteness Theorems)에 따르면 마음과 정보처리형식체계의 논리적 동치성은 무모순이며, 동치성 반증의 이론은 그 모델을 가질 수 없다.

  • The aim of this study is to construct a formal semantic representation of the korean adverbial phrase(AdvP) composed of NP of t imp and of the adverbial particle OE. This AdvP establishes various relations between the time indicated by NP and the time of the event described by the sentence, depending on the type of th first and the aspectual property of the second. To represent formally the semantic functions of this AdvP, we used lambda-calculus and unification grammar in the way proposed by Renaud(1996).

  • This paper deals with temporal markers -ess and -(nu)n in Korean, and provides formal interpretations of these markers within the framework of interval semantics. I propose that the truth-conditional interpretation of -ess and -(nu)n sentences is obtained by locating the involved eventuality within a 'completive interval' and 'imcompletive interval', respectively. Since characterization of these two invervals makes reference to the evaluation time, the basic distinction between the two lies on tense. Furthermore, I will argue that perfective/imperfective aspect meaning that usually arises in -ess/-nun sentences should be explained in terms of a conversational implicature.

  • This paper investigates the semantics of English there existential sentences. By examining discourse functions and pragmatic facts, it accounts for semantic facts which have not been discussed elsewhere. Further, it is a new attempt to incorporate information-theoretic notions into formal semantics. I propose that existential statements as expressing Austinian propositions. The proposed meanings account for the fact that post-copular NPs cannot constitute the restruction of an adverb of quantification nor admit a partitive reading.

먼저 표준모듈을 Larch/CORBA IDL(LCB)를 사용하여 정형적으로 명세하고, LCB의 의미론에 준하여 LCB 명세를 LSL(Larch Shared language)로 변환한다. 변환한 LCB 명세와 LSL 증명논리를 사용하여 특성을 수학적으로 증명한다. 변환기반의 LCB 의미론을 정립하여 제안한 방법의 이론적 바탕을 마련하고 CORBA 이름서비스명세에 실제 적용하여 그 효용성을 보인다.
