  • Some methods have been presented to get optimal formation trajectories in the step of configuration or reconfiguration, which subject to constraints of collision avoidance and final configuration. In this study, a method for optimal formation trajectory-planning is introduced in view of fuel/time minimization using parameter optimization technique which has not been applied to optimal trajectory-planning for satellite formation flying. New constraints of nonlinear equality are derived for final configuration and constraints of nonlinear inequality are used for collision avoidance. The final configuration constraints are that three or more satellites should be placed in an equilateral polygon of the circular horizontal plane orbit. Several examples are given to get optimal trajectories based on the parameter optimization problem which subjects to constraints of collision avoidance and final configuration. They show that the introduced method for trajectory-planning is well suited to trajectory design problems of formation flying missions.

  • These days many scientists make studies of feedback control system for stability on non-linear state and for the maneuver of flying objects. These feedback control systems have to satisfy trajectory condition and angular conditions, that is to say, controllability and stability simultaneously to achieve mission. In this paper, a design methods using model based control system which consists of spiral predictive model, Q-function included into generalized-work function is shown. It is made a clear that the proposed algorithm using SPM maneuvers for controllability and stability at the same time is successful in attaining our purpose. The feature of the proposed algorithm is illustrated by simulation results. As a conclusion, the proposed algorithm is useful for the control of moving objects.

  • A collision-free formation reconfiguration trajectory subject to the linearized Hill's dynamics of relative motion is analytically developed by extending an algorithm for gravity-free space. Based on the initial solution without collision avoidance constraints, the final solution to minimize the designated performance index and avoid collision is found, based on a gradient method. Simple simulations confirm that satellites reconfigure their positions along the safe trajectories, while trying to spend minimum energies. The algorithm is applicable to wide range of formation flying under the Hill's dynamics.

  • Satellite formation flying is currently an active area of research in the aerospace engineering. So it has been researched by various authors. In this study, a tracking controller using sliding mode techniques was designed to control a satellite for the satellite formation flying. In general, Hill's equations are used to describe the relative motion of the follower satellite with respect to the leader satellite. However the modified Hill's equations considering the $J_2$ perturbation were used for the design of sliding mode controller. The extended Kalman filter was applied to estimate the state vector based on the measurements of relative distance and velocity between two satellites. The simulation results show that the follower satellite tracks the desired trajectory well by thruster operations based on the sliding mode control law.

  • The motion of animals and gymnasts in the air as well as free flying space robots without thrusters are subjected to nonholonomic constraints generated by the law of conservation of angular momentum. The purpose of this paper is to derive analytical posture control laws for free flying objects in the air. We propose the bang-bang control method for trajectory planning of a 3 link mechanical system with initial angular momentum. This technique is used to reduce the DOF (degrees of freedom) at first switching phase and to determine the control inputs to steer the reduced order system to the desired position. Computer simulations for motion planning of an athlete approximated by 3 link, namely platform diving, are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

  • A methodology is proposed to estimate a trajectory of a flying target and its velocity using the time and frequency analysis of the acoustic signal. The measurement of sound emitted from a flying acoustic source with a microphone above a ground shall receive both direct and ground-reflected sound waves. For certain frequency contents, the destructive interference happens in received signal waveform reflected path lengths are in multiple integers of direct path length. This phenomenon is referred to as the acoustical mirror effect and it can be observed in a spectrogram plot. The spectrogram of acoustic measurement for a flying vehicle measurement shows several orders of destructive interference curves. The first or second order of curve is used to find the best approximate path by using nonlinear least-square method. Simulated acoustic signal is generated for the condition of known geometric of a sensor and a source in flight. The estimation based on cepstrogram analysis provides more accurate estimate than spectrogram.

  • Motions of animals and gymnasts in the air as well as free flying space robots without thruster are subject to nonholonomic constraints generated by the law of conservation of angular momentum. The interest in nonholonomic control problems is motivated by the fact that such systems can not stabilized to its equilibrium points by the smooth control input. The purpose of this paper is to derive analytical posture control laws for free flying objects in the air. We propose a control method using bang-bang control for trajectory planning of a 3 link mechanical system with initial angular momentum. • Recently, satellite formation flying has been a topic of significant research interest in aerospace society because it provides potential benefits compared to a large spacecraft. Some techniques have been proposed to design optimal formation trajectories minimizing fuel consumption in the process of formation configuration or reconfiguration. In this study, a method is introduced to build fuel-optimal trajectories minimizing a cost function that combines the total fuel consumption of all satellites and assignment of fuel consumption rate for each satellite. This approach is based on collocation and nonlinear programming to solve constraints for collision avoidance and the final configuration. New constraints of nonlinear equality or inequality are derived for final configuration, and nonlinear inequality constraints are established for collision avoidance. The final configuration constraints are that three or more satellites should form a projected circular orbit and make an equilateral polygon in the horizontal plane. Example scenarios, including these constraints and the cost function, are simulated by the method to generate optimal trajectories for the formation configuration and reconfiguration of multiple satellites.

  • An orbital design method of the formation initialization based on the relative orbital element method is presented. It firstly constructed the relative motion equation of the satellite formation flying in terms of the leader and followers' orbital elements. Then the equation was simplified when the orbit eccentricity of the leader satellite was small. And according to the satellites' mission, a general design method for the relative trajectory was proposed. The advantage of this method is that one can get a very simple analytical formula of each follower satellite's orbital elements when the orbital eccentricity of the leader satellite is zero. The simulation results show that the method is effective.
