The PMGS(Plant Model Generating System) was developed based on modular modeling method and fluid network calculation concept. Fluid network calculation is used as a method of real-time computation of fluid network, and the module which has a topology with node and branch is defined to take advantages of modular modeling. Also, the database which have a shared memory as an instance is designed to manage simulation data in real-time. The applicability of the PMGS was examined implementing the HRSG(Heat Recovery Steam Generator) control logic on DCS.
Considering the similarity between fluid vortex and arrhythmogenic reentrant waves in heart, we applied the non-dimensionalization method in fluid dynamics to arrhythmia analysis and discovered a new non-dimensional simulation results, there was a threshold value of the number that resulted in the induction of a reentrant wave.

Fluid is an effective element in computer animation. Recently, the techniques from CFD have been actively applied to CG production. In this paper, we describe our fluid animation system which implements a variety of established simulation and rendering methods. We also explain our new techniques such as chemical reaction and hardware-assisted fluid animation that are being developed to enhance the features of our software system.
The dispersion of Lagrangian fluid particles in a turbulent channel flow is studied by a direct numerical simulation. Four points Hermite interpolation in the homogeneous direction and Chebyshev polynomials in the inhomogeneous direction is adopted by assesing the acceleration of fluid particles. In order to characterize the inhomogeneous Lagrangian statistics, accurate single particle Lagrangian statistics are obtained along the wall normal direction. Integral time scales of Lagrangian velocity can be normalized by Eulerian mean shear stresses.
Fluid impact tests on plates containing mesh reinforcement and polypropylene fibers were modeled and simulated using explicit finite element analysis software, LS-DYNA. The scabbing dimensions obtained by the experiments and the simulations were compared and crack formations were matched. The objective was to test the accuracy and fidelity of the model and to confirm that damage caused by fluid impact on the plates can be estimated with a reasonable accuracy over a wide range of impact velocity.

A multiscale particle simulation technique that can be applied to a multiphase fluid system has been developed. In the boundary region where the macroscopic- and microscopic-scale models overlap each other, three distinctive features are introduced in the simulation. First, a wall is set up between the gas and liquid phases to separate them and match the phases respectively to the macroscopic conditions stably. Secondly, the interfacial profile is obtained near the matching region and the wall translates and rotates to accommodate the change in the liquid-vapor interfacial position in the molecular model. The contact angle thus obtained can be sent to the macroscopic model. Finally, a state of mass and temperature in the region is maintained by inserting and deleting the particles. Good matching results are observed in the cases of the complete and partial wetting fluid systems.
Analysis of fluid-structure interaction for two nearby underwater vehicles immersed in the sea is quite challenging because simulation of flow around them is very difficult due to the complexity of underwater vehicle shapes. The conventional approach using body-fitted or unstructured grids demands much time in dynamic grid generation, and yields slow convergence of solution. Since an analysis of fluid-structure interaction must be based on accurate simulation results, a more efficient way of simulating flow around underwater vehicles, without sacrificing accuracy, is desirable. An immersed boundary method facilitates implementation of complicated underwater-vehicle shapes on a Cartesian grid system. An LES modeling is also incorporated to resolve turbulent eddies. In this paper, we will demonstrate the effectiveness of the immersed boundary method we adopted, by presenting the simulation results on the flow around a modeled high-speed underwater vehicle interacting with a modeled low-speed one.

A realistic numerical simulation technology using a Lagrangian Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) model was combined with a fracture algorithm to predict the fluid-ice-structure interaction. The failure of ice was modeled as the tensile fracture of elastic material by applying a novel FSI model based on the Moving Particle Semi-implicit (MPS) method. To verify the developed fracture algorithm, a series of numerical simulations for 3-point bending tests with an ice beam were performed and compared with the experiments carried out in an ice room. For application of the developed FSI model, a dropping water droplet hitting a cantilever ice beam was simulated with and without the fracture algorithm. The simulation showed that the effects of fracture which can occur in the process of a FSI simulation can be studied.

Discharge characteristics of linear microwave plasma were investigated by using fluid simulation of 2D axis-symmetry based on finite elements method. The microwave power was 2.45 GHz TEM mode and transmitted through linear antenna. Resistive power and pressure were considered simulation variables and argon was used for working gas. A decrease of electron density along the quartz tube was observed in low power condition but relatively uniform plasmas were generated in chamber by increasing the resistive power. The electron temperature was highly detected near the surface of quartz tube because the electron was heated only dielectric surface. The power transmission efficiency decreased and characteristics of surface plasma were observed in high electron density condition.
Thermalhydraulic reactor simulation of tomorrow will require a new generation of codes combining at least three scales, the CFD scale in open medium, the component scale and the system scale. DNS will be used as a support for modelling more macroscopic models. NEPTUNE is such a new generation multi-scale platform developed jointly by CEA-DEN and EDF-R&D and also supported by IRSN and FRAMATOME-ANP. The major steps towards the next generation lie in new physical models and improved numerical methods. This paper presents the advances obtained so far in physical modelling for each scale. Macroscopic models of system and component scales include multi-field modelling, transport of interfacial area, and turbulence modelling. Two-phase CFD or CMFD was first applied to boiling bubbly flow for departure from nucleate boiling investigations and to stratified flow for pressurised thermal shock investigations. The main challenges of the project are presented, some selected results are shown for each scale, and the perspectives for future are also drawn. Direct Numerical Simulation tools with Interface Tracking Techniques are also developed for even smaller scale investigations leading to a better understanding of basic physical processes and allowing the development of closure relations for macroscopic and CFD models.
