  • The Enterobacter cloacae biofilms developed on slide glasses and galvanized-iron coupons were applied to test the attached bacterial resistance to chlorination. The chlorine resistances of biofilm bacteria grown on the slide glasses and galvanized-iron coupons were 14 and 480 times that of the suspended bacteria, respectively. The chlorine resistance of particleattached bacterial populations was 48 times that of suspended bacterial populations. The biofilm bacterial densities developed on the slide glasses and galvanized-iron coupons which were immersed in the flowing tap water for 75 days were $4.75 {\times} 10^{4}$ and $1.12 {\times} 10^5 cfu/cm^{2}$ It is concluded that main mechanisms of enteric or HPC bacterial resistance to chlorination in tap waters are bacterial attachment or . adsorption to particles or bacterial aggregations and formation of biofilms on the inner wall of distribution systems by escaped bacteria from chlorination in water treatment processes, which results in bacterial regrowth in water distribution systems.

  • The keel attached on bottom of hull part prevents yacht from flowing sideway by sailing posture. The keel remove a heel moment and make the force of stability. The selection of suitable keel is important bemuse it has an influence on the safety. Also the appendage attached on bottom of keel part lower ballast weight center and have influence on hull stability. The optimum shape about the keel is very important. So this study has compared with characteristics of resistance depending on the shape of the lower part of fin keel in the same surface of water submersion, we have attached three different types of models of lower part of fin keels to the model ships using circulating water channel and analyzed resistance characteristics per shape to arrive at the optimum shape of reduction of resistance.

  • When the water flowing inside of the heat transfer equipments such as heat exchangers, condensers, and boilers is heated, calcium, magnesium sulfate, and other minerals in the water are deposited and built up for scales on the heat transfer surfaces. When those scales accumulate on the heat transfer surfaces, their performance of the heat transfer become progressively reduced due to the increase of the heat transfer resistance. The mechanism of this reduced heat transfer is called fouling. This study investigated the formation of the fouling in a heat exchanger with river and tap water flowed inside of it as a coolant. In order to visualize the formation of the fouling and to measure the fouling coefficients, a lab-scale heat exchanging system was used. Based on the experimental results, it was found that the formation of fouling for river water was quite different with the formation for tap water.

  • PU flame-retardant coatings (APHD) containing phosphorous were prepared by blending of hexamethylene diisocyanate-trimer, white pigment, dispersing agent, flowing agent, and previously prepared benzoic acid modified polyester (APTB) that contains phosphorous. Physical properties of the prepared APHD were examined. With the introduction of BZA (contained in APTB), the film viscosity and film hardness of APHD decreased. With the introduction of caprolactone group, the flexibility, impact resistance, accelerated weathering resistance of APTBs increased. Flame retardancy of the coatings was tested. In a vertical burning method, APHD shows 210${\sim}$313 seconds, and in a $45^{\circ}$ Meckel burner method, shows 1.3${\sim}$4.0$cm^2$ of char length, which indicates that the coatings are good flame-retardant coatings. Moreover, the amount of afterglow and flame retardancy of the coatings are decreased with increasing BZA content.

  • Recently, High-Workable Concrete has been developed and began to be used to a great extent in foreign countries, but it is not familiar with and fully Introduced in Korea yet. Therefore the aim of this paper is to suggest a reference data. for the development of High-Workable Concrete according to the comparative analysis which were done on the effects of mix proportion(water-binder ratio, sand-aggregate ratio, unit water, a kind of superplasticizer) on the flowing characteristics. And also this paper aims to examine the compactability and segregation resistance of High-Workable Concrete in a mock-up test and in a field test. From the result, we concluded that it is possible to produce and to use the High-Workable Concrete at the construction site.

  • The sharing of common corridors by electric power transmission lines and pipelines is becoming more common place. However, such corridor sharing can result in undesired coupling of electromagnetic energy from the power lines to the near facilities. This causes induced voltages on underground metallic pipelines due to the power line currents. This could cause AC corrosion in the pipeline, which could in turn lead to disastrous accidents, such as gas explosion or oil leakage. This paper investigates for the limitation of induced voltage on the buried metal structures which is used in the inside and outside of the country. And then we measure the earth resistance and leakage current of 22.9kV distribution lines and pipe to soil potential of near pipelines in Seoul Korea. Hereby we can see the leakage current flowing through the earthing electrode have an effect on near pipelines.

  • When the clamp meter approaches the electric path where current is flowing, leakage current can be measured at a distance from the electric current because the induced current increases as the magnitude of the current increases and approaches nearer to the electric path. Therefore, measurements were carried out from a distance to avoid this effect. In addition, the measured values differ depending on the location of the power line that penetrates the ZCT of the clamp meter, thus measurements were performed at a location where this effect was minimized. The fraction of compliant branch circuits, whose leakage current was lower than 1.00 mA, was found to be 69.0% out of the total of 439 branch circuits, while the percentage of compliant branch circuits having an insulation resistance higher than $0.20M{\Omega}$ was found to be 93.2%. The reason why the percentage of compliant branch circuits with low leakage current was low might be due to the inclusion of capacitive leakage current in the total measured leakage current.

  • Although ground investigation had carried out prior to the construction, many problems have arisen during the civil-engineering works because of the presence of the unexpected underground utility lines or anomalies. In this study, a new geophysical exploration method was developed to solve those problems by improving and supplementing the existing methods. This new method was based on the difference of electrical resistance values between anomalies and surrounding ground medium. A theoretical expression was suggested to define the characteristics of the anomalies such as location, size and direction, by applying the electric field analysis. An inverse analysis algorithm was also developed to solve the theoretical expression using the measured electrical resistance values which were generated by the voltage flowing the subsurface medium. To verify the developed method, field applications were conducted at the sites under construction or planned. From the results of the field tests, it was found that not only the new method was more predictive than the existing methods, but its results were good agreed with the measured ones. Therefore, it is expected that application of the new exploration method reduces the unexpected accidents caused by the underground uncertainties during the underground construction works.

  • A heat exchanger is a device designed to transfer heat between two or more fluids. In a vehicle's thermal management system, Al heat exchangers play a critical role in controlling and managing heat for efficient and safe operation of the engine and other components. The fluid used to prevent heat exchangers from overheating the engine is mostly tap water. Heat exchange performance can be maintained at sub-zero temperatures using a solution mixed with antifreeze. Although the fluid flowing through the heat exchanger can reduce the temperature inside the engine, it also has various problems such as cavitation corrosion. Cavitation corrosion characteristics in tap water and corrosion characteristics were evaluated in this study when antifreeze was added for test specimens where AA4045 was cladded on the inner surface of AA3003 tubes of a fin-type heat exchanger. The cavitation corrosion resistance of AA3003 was found to be superior to that of AA4045 regardless of the test solution due to higher corrosion resistance and hardness of AA3003 than those of AA4045. The cavitation corrosion rate of Al alloys increased with the addition of antifreeze.
