For a fixed parametrization of a curve in an orientable two-dimensional Riemannian manifold, we introduce and investigate a new frame and curvature function. Due to the way of defining this new frame as being the time-dependent rotation in the tangent plane of the standard Frenet frame, both these new tools are called flow.

In this study, the temperature distributions are analyzed on the air flow according to the position of fan inside computer main frame by CFD simulation. In case that ventilation hole is existed at the side of computer frame, the air with lower temperature can be circulated near CPU radiant thermal panel. In case of installation with fan at the side panel, the temperature of air flow becomes lowest. The efficiency of thermal emission at personal computer and its durability can be improved by releasing a lot of heat at air flow effectively inside computer frame according to this simulation result.
The in-cylinder flow field of gasoline engine comprises unsteady compressible turbulent flows caused by the intake port, combustion chamber geometry. Thus, the quantitative analysis of the in-cylinder flow characteristics plays an important role in the improvement of engine performances and the reduction of exhaust emission. In order to obtain the quantitative analysis of the in-cylinder gas flows for a gasoline engine, the single-frame particle tracking velocimetry was developed, which is designed to measure 2-dimensional gas flow field. In this paper, influences of the swirl and tumble intensifying valves on the in-cylinder flow characteristics under the various intake flow conditions were investigated by using this PTV method. Based on the results of experiment, the generation process of swirl and tumble flow in a cylinder during intake stroke was clarified. Its effect on the tumble ratio at the end of compression stroke was also investigated.
In this study, we bring forth a new general formula for inextensible flows of Euclidean curves as regards modified orthogonal frame (MOF) in E3. For an inextensible curve flow, we provide the necessary and sufficient conditions, which are denoted by a partial differential equality containing the curvatures and torsion.

Analysis and control of intake charge motion such as swirl and tumble are very important factors in improving the gasoline engine performance. In this paper, single-frame PTV (particle tracking velocimetry) is used to investigate intake tumble patterns in a steady flow test rig of gasoline engine with dual-intake-valve and pent-roof combustion chamber. Intake tumble pattern is quantified in accordance with blockage ratio of TIV (tumble intensifying valve) with single- frame PTv.The view of the instantaneous 2-D velocity field gives a realistic understanding of in-cylinder flow field. Thus it is confirmed that PTV is a effective tool in engine design. In conventional port, two tumble structures appear clearly, and the larger one is observed under the exhaust valve side and the smaller is right below the intake valve side. The larger vorticity is observed in TIV port, thus it is concluded that TIV have an effect on intensified tumble motion in cylinder flow.

In this study, a $100cm^2$ cell frame for a molten carbonate fuel cell was designed using CFD analysis. Electrochemical reactions, gas flow, and the heat transfer in $100cm^2$ cell frame were modeled using COMSOL Multiphysics. Two design variables such as the height of the cell frame and the length of the gas input area were determined to obtain minimized temperature distribution and uniform gas distribution. With two design parameter such as height of the cell frame and the length of the gas flow channel, the temperature difference in the cell fame was decreased to $5^{\circ}C$ and the gas uniformity in the flow channel were achieved.

This thesis investigates vibration response characteristics of building frames in which dampers are installed. The frames belong to passively vibration-controlled. Structures which utilizes energy dissipation of mechanical dampers provided in the structure. In this thesis, a turbulent flow damper sealed by visco-elastic material was dealt with as the device of passive vibration control. To investigate the resisting force characteristics of the damper, harmonic vibratration tests were carried out. Based on the test results, a theoretical model of the damper resistance was presented and a method of identifying the model parameters was proposed. Shaking table tests of the frame with and without the dampers were carried out and the effectiveness of the damper was examined. The response of the frame with the dampers was reduced to 1/2 or 1/3 of the cases without the damper.

A 2-frame PTV (particle tracking velocimetry) system using the concept of match probability between two consequent image frames has been developed to obtain instantaneous velocity fields. The overall 2-frame PTV system including image pre-processing, tracking algorithm and post-processing routine was implemented to apply to real flows. The developed 2-frame PTV system has several advantages such as high recovery ratio of velocity vectors, low error ratio and small computational time compared with the conventional 4-frame PTV and the FFT-based cross-correlation PIV technique. The 2-frame PTV system was applied to a turbulent channel flow over a rectangular block to check its reliability and usefulness. Total 96 sequential image frames have been captured and processed to get both mean and fluctuating velocity vector fields over the recirculating region. The mean velocity and turbulent intensity profiles were well agreed with hte LDV measurements in the separated region behind the block. Time-averaged reattachment length is about 6.3 times of the block height.

In this paper a coarse-to-fine optical flow detection method is proposed. Provided that optical flow gives reliable approximation to two-dimensional image motion, it can be used to recover the three-dimensional motion, but usually to set the reliable optical flows are difficult. The proposed algorithm uses Horn's algorithm for detecting initial optical flow, then Thin Plate Spline is introduced to warp a image frame of the initial optical flow to the next image frame. The optical flow for the warped image frame is again used iteratively until the mean square error between two image sequence frames is lowered. The proposed method is experimented for the real moving picture image sequence. The proposed algorithm gives dense optical flow vectors.

The performance of 2-frame PTV(particle tracking velocimetry) system was improved using an adaptive hybrid scheme. The original 2-frame PTV method based on the match probability concept employs global match parameters for the entire flow field. Since this does not reflect fully the detailed local velocity change, it sometimes reduces the recovery rate of velocity vectors and increases the number of erroneous vectors in the region where an extraordinary flow structure exists. In this study, the preliminary FFT-based PIV results are used as an input parameter to determine the local match parameters needed for the 2-frame particle tracking algorithm. A computer simulation using synthetic particle images was carried out to study the performance of the adaptive 2-frame PTV technique. The adaptive hybrid method shows the better performance with increasing the velocity vector recovery rate and decreasing the computation time, compared to the original 2-frame PTV method.
